Fig. 1 zeigt ein Bowden-Kabelschmiergerät von der Seite;
Fig. 2 die geöffneten Zangenbacken eines Gerätes in perspektivischer Darstellung;
Fig. 3 geöffnete Zangenbacken eines anderen Geräts, ebenfalls in perspektivischer Darstellung;

The invention relates to a cable lubricating device, preferably for lubricating so-called Bowden cables.
These cables have an outer sheath consisting of a wire spiral wound with pretension and in which there is a pull rope. The cable is flexible and is used for mechanical remote control; the outer shell can transmit compressive forces, the rope inside tensile forces. The cable must be lubricated for trouble-free operation.
Cable lubrication devices for lubricating such Bowden cables have become known which either did not clamp too much or did not seal sufficiently despite sufficient clamping force, so that the lubricant used for lubrication oozed out.
The invention aims to create a lubricating device that avoids the disadvantages outlined. The device according to the invention is characterized by a pair of pliers with trough-shaped jaws, each of which contains a rubber pad that has recesses adapted to the cable to be lubricated, one of these pads being provided with a bore that connects to a lubricating nipple arranged on the outside of a jaw stands.
In the drawing, exemplary embodiments of the subject matter of the invention are shown and how it works:
Fig. 1 shows a Bowden cable lubricator from the side;
2 shows the opened jaws of a device in a perspective view;
Fig. 3 open pliers jaws of another device, also in a perspective view;
Fig. 4 shows a section along the line A-A in Fig. 1 of an apparatus according to Figs
FIG. 5 shows a similar section as in FIG. 4, of a device according to FIG. 3.
Figure 1 shows the new device, the basic structure of which has the form of pliers with long handles 1 and a large transmission ratio. The jaws 2 of these pliers are trough-shaped and each contain a rubber pad 3. A high pressure grease nipple 4 is attached to the outside of one of these jaws. The two rubber pads contain recesses that are adapted to the cable to be lubricated. 5 is a wire ring for continuously fixing the pliers in a closed position. The shape of the jaws and the shape of the recesses in the rubber pad are different depending on the intended use. There are basically two designs: a design that is suitable for introducing lubricant at the end of the cable (see FIGS. 2 and 4); a version for introducing lubricant in the middle or at any point of the cable (see Figures 3 and 5).
Figure 2 shows the first-mentioned embodiment. Here the rubber pads 31, 31 'each contain a small, semi-cylindrical recess 33 for the inner pull cable, a larger recess 34 for an end sleeve of the outer jacket and a somewhat smaller recess 35 for the outer jacket.
In addition, the rubber pad 31 'contains a bore 32 (see FIG. 4) which connects to the grease nipple 4.
FIG. 3 shows the second embodiment, which differs from the first in particular in that the trough-shaped jaws are additionally curved in a plane running perpendicular to the handles 1 (section plane AA in FIG. 1). The two rubber pads 37, 37 'are only provided with a semi-cylindrical recess 38 and pad 37' contains an additional bore 39 (see FIG. 5) which connects to the grease nipple 4.
The mode of operation of the device can be explained using FIGS. 4 and 5.
FIG. 4 shows a section along the line A-A in FIG. 1 in the case of pliers with jaws according to FIG. 2, in the closed state and with a clamped cable end. The recesses in the rubber pad are dimensioned, for example, so that they are able to clamp a cable with an outside diameter of 5 mm in a sealing manner. The elasticity of the cushions also allows a thicker cable with an outer diameter of up to about 8 mm to be clamped and sealed.
So that both hands are free to apply a high-pressure grease gun to the nipple 4, the pliers are preferably fixed in the clamped position with the help of an elongated wire ring 5 (see FIG. 1), which is pushed back over the handles 1. In the position shown in FIG. 4, the rubber pads 31, 31 'close in a sealing manner around the outer cable, pull cable and end sleeve, but leave a passage 34' free for the lubricant pressed into the nipple 4.
FIG. 5 shows a section similar to FIG. 4, but with a pair of pliers according to FIG. 3. The bending of the cable has the effect that the wire windings of the external cable no longer lie on top of one another on the outside of the bending and allow the lubricant to pass through. If the outer cable has a dense plastic cover, it must be cut open a little for lubrication.
This second version is therefore particularly suitable for lubricating: a) extra long cables b) cables that have already been installed c) old cables with a defective cover and d) cable runs without a sealing plastic cover.
