- un mélange intime et homogéne des deux fluides;
des pertes de charges importantes sont produites à l'aspiration de la pompe;
la moindre variation de pression de l'un ou l'autre des deux fluides provoque une modification des proportions du mélange;
On
- absence de pertes de charge à l'aspiration de la pompe P sur l'admission du fluide (B) et par suite l'élimination des risques de cavitation de celle-ci;
- action directe d'une variation de pression d'amplitude importante sur un seul (A) des deux fluides à doser, d'où une simplicité intéressante et une grande fiabilité;
- réglage de débit instantané du fluide A s'effectuant par une variation de pression en amont d'un orifice calibré 43 d'où une très grande précision de dosage si l'injecteur est d'un type qui n'entraine qu'une faible variation de débit pour une variation de pression importante;
- arrivées concentriques des fluides permettant un mélange très fin et très homogène;
;
- très faible encombrement de l'appareil permettant son adaptation directe sur le corps de pompe P (fig. 3) éliminant ainsi toute tuyauterie de liaison dans laquelle des dépôts peuvent se produire et altérer la qualité du mélange et donc de l'émulsion;
- possibilité de procéder à l'entretien de l'appareil sans m difier les réglages effectués;
- sécurité interdisant l'introduction du fluide B ou du mélange A + B dans le réseau du fluide A par suite d'une chute accidentelle de pression dans ce dernier;
Numerous industrial, domestic or agricultural installations use mixtures of fluids or more often emulsions of two fluids which are immiscible with each other, the distribution of which to the user network is provided by a volumetric pump at medium or high pressure, while that the amount of emulsion actually used varies constantly.
This is the case with burner technology for liquid fuels, for example.
The known processes for producing a stable emulsion are effective, but the homogeneity and the ratio of the relative percentages of the two fluids of the emulsion depend on the quality of the mixture, previously carried out, which is used.
The apparatus performing this mixing must therefore be able to perform the following functions:
- a rigorous dosage of one or each of the two fluids:
- an intimate and homogeneous mixture of the two fluids;
- dosage regulation to ensure consistency
proportions of the two fluids regardless of the flow rate of the mixture
To fulfill ces'functions, it is known to use the small pressure variations caused, at the suction of the pump, by the modulations of the flow rate of use; this, by means of a static or mechanical mixing device mounted downstream of a throttle placed on each inlet of the two fluids, also maintained at constant pressures and very close to each other.
The desired dosage having been obtained by the adjustment of the passage sections of the throttles, the pressure variations at the suction of the pump are transmitted equally to the two fluids, the flow rates of which vary proportionally.
This way of doing things has several drawbacks:
significant pressure drops are produced at the suction of the pump;
the slightest variation in pressure of one or the other of the two fluids causes a modification of the proportions of the mixture;
to ensure the dosage, the direct action of a very small variation in pressure (positive or negative) is used, hence the need for very great fine tuning and the use of high precision pressure regulators.
Moreover, the assembly. which one could think of in order to obtain a better dosage, of various conventional or specialized devices, forming a complete regulation chain, could make it possible to obtain any satisfaction but the complexity, the size and the cost price would be disproportionate with the envisaged application .
The object of the invention is to remedy this state of affairs, by making it possible, thanks to a static and monobloc device providing the dual function of mixer and proportioner-regulator of the proportion of two fluids, to supply a positive displacement pump (at constant flow ) with two fluids that are immiscible with each other, according to a homogeneous mixture, at a constant and adjustable proportion, whatever the flow rate of use, and while returning the unused mixture to said static device, the flow rate of which is essentially variable.
The subject of the invention is therefore a method for dosing a mixture of two pressurized fluids, intended for supplying a positive displacement pump, provided with a pressure limiter. with a mixture in which the percentage of each of the fluids is constant, whatever the rate of use. This process is characterized in that a fraction of the mixture of the two fluids which has not been used and whose flow rate has variations opposite to those of the flow rate of use is taken. the first fluid is injected under pressure into this fraction of the mixture with a flow rate which varies according to the back pressure exerted by said mixture, that is to say according to the flow rate of use, then the new mixture is injected thus obtained in an inlet of the second fluid and the fluid obtained is introduced into the user circuit.
Adjustment of the amplitude of the fluid pressure variations (A + B). by the axial position of the injector of the fluid A, the adjustment of the pressure of this fluid A and the choice of the flow-pressure characteristics of its injector make it possible to obtain, according to the requirements of the installation, either a perfect constancy of the proportions of the two fluids A and B regardless of the rate of use of the mixture (A + B), ie a change in the proportions as a function of the rate of use of this mixture.
The subject of the invention is also an automatically regulated metering-mixer apparatus, intended for implementing the improved method above. This apparatus is remarkable in particular in that it comprises three chambers provided with three inlets respectively for the first fluid (A), the mixture (A + B) at variable pressure coming from the pressure limiter and the second fluid (B), and two injectors for respectively injecting the first fluid (A) into a converging frustoconical vein of said mixture of fluids (A + B) at the outlet of the second chamber and the resulting mixture A + (A + B) into a converging vein of the second fluid B at the outlet of the third chamber.
The variations in pressure of the mixture of fluids (A + B), depending on the flow rate of use, act in back pressure on the injector of fluid A and cause variations in the flow rate of this fluid A according to the flow-pressure curve of its injector. Moreover, the fluid B, advantageously maintained at a constant pressure, normally supplies the pump after having been mixed with the fluid A + (A + B).
The injector of the first fluid (A) can be removable, interchangeable and integral with an axial thread making it possible to modify its position relative to the body of the apparatus, thus defining the outlet section of the second variable pressure chamber; this first fluid injector (A) may be provided with a non-return valve.
In a preferred embodiment, a hollow cylindrical part mounted inside the frame is provided with openings facing each fluid inlet and carries all the fluid injection members.
In the accompanying drawings, given only by way of example:
Fig. I is a cross-sectional view of an automatically regulated metering-mixer apparatus according to the invention.
Fig. 2 is a cross-sectional view of a variant of this apparatus.
Fig. 3 is an assembly diagram of this device in the circuit of a liquid fuel burner.
Fig. 4 represents, by the points X recorded experimentally, the variation of the flow rate d of the fluid A (water) brought down as a function of the variation of the flow D, that is to say the consumption of the fluid B (fuel ) plotted on the y-axis, as well as by curve Y the corresponding variation in the return pressure P of the fluid A + B (emulsion), as a function of D. by adapting the apparatus of fig. 1 according to the diagram of FIG. 3.
According to the exemplary embodiment shown in FIG. 1, the body 1 of the device I has three fluid inlets 2, 3 and 4.
The inlet 2 opens into a chamber 5 which, through radial 6 and axial 7 channels of an injector holder 8, opens into a second axial chamber 9. On the outlet of the channel 7, a ball 10 is kept applied by a spring 11. The injector holder 8 is adjustable longitudinally by screwing into a nut 12, itself screwed into the body 1, a lock nut 13 making it possible to block the injector holder 8 in position while leaving the possibility of dismantling the assembly of this injector holder: it suffices to unscrew the nut 12 without affecting the adjustment of the device. A copper seal 14 and an O-ring 15 provide the seal between the chamber 5 and the outside, a Teflon ring 16 ensures the seal between the chamber 5 and a chamber 17 surrounding an axial injector 18.
This axial injector 18 comprises an axial blind channel 19 which opens out through calibrated orifices 20 into a conical passage 21 formed between the male conical head of the injector and the female conical surface of a directing nozzle 22. The conical passage 21 opens out, upstream, that is to say to the left, in the annular chamber 17 into which the second opens radially at
3, and, downstream, in the axial channel 23 of the direct nozzle
tor 22.
This channel 23 opens downstream in the tapered entrance 24
of a converging nozzle 25 which is in communication with the a
mounted with a third axial chamber 26 in which opens
axially cheeks the third inlet 4 and which extends downstream
through the outlet 26t threaded connection. A seal 27 provides the seal
between the body 1 and the attached nozzle 25. A plug 28 gives
access to the interior of the body 1, in front of the entrance 2 for
place of the insert 29 in which the inlet 2 is made.
The operation is as follows:
Input 2 is connected to a conduit A for supplying fluid A
after passing it through a regulator or any other device
adjustable pressure regulation.
Input 3 receives the mixture or emulsion (A + B) from
nance of the discharge b of the pressure limiter R of the pump vo
lumetric P.
The inlet 4 receives the fluid B under low stable pressure or
nothing.
Fluid A gains, through chamber 5 and channels 6 and 7, and
after having driven from its seat the ball 10 kept at rest in
closed position by the spring 11, enters the injector 18
and through calibrated orifices 20 open into the passage coni
21, where the fluid A is added to the mixture (A + B) whose
flow rate is variable and the new mixture A + (A + B) flows through
the constriction constituted by this annular interval 21. The loss
load caused by this constriction is a function of the flow
of the mixture and causes pressure variations in this step
sage 21 acting in back pressure on the injector 18, the flow rate of which therefore varies in the desired direction.
The amplitude of the pressure variation in the annular passage 21 can be adjusted by modifying the section of the throttle: for this, the injector holder 8 is more or less screwed into the nut 12 for fixing to the body 1 causing thus the axial displacement of the injector 18 relative to the nozzle 27 which is fixed. The locknut 13 allows locking in position after adjustment.
The nozzle 22 therefore receives an already intimate mixture of the fluid A and the mixture (A + B), and it discharges at 24, at the center of the frustoconical cavity delimited by the converging nozzle 25 and through which the fluid B coming from from room 26 and from entrance 4.
The penetration of the hollow conical jet of fluid B into the full jet of mixture A + (A + B) ensures the final mixture (A + B) which is directed towards the suction of the pump P.
The ball 10, subjected to the effect of the very weak spring 11, prevents the passage of fluids B or (A + B) towards the chamber 5 if the pressure of the latter accidentally drops.
The threaded connection 29 allows direct attachment to the body 1 of the device I of an isolating valve (magnetic or manual) for fluid A. Access to the hexagon head of this screw is possible with the help with a tubular wrench, after removing the cap 28 and removing the injector holder 8 by the nut 12.
Modifications can be made to this device, mainly when it requires great precision in the stability or the evolution of the proportions of the two fluids in the mixture while the variation in the flow rate of use is very important.
In fig. 2, which shows an apparatus II in accordance with such a variant, it can be seen that the outlet section of the variable pressure chamber 17 is formed by the combination of a needle 30 integral with the injector 18 of the fluid A and the nozzle of a piston 31 sliding in a tubular part 32 and subjected to the axial thrust of a spring 33. The variation in the flow rate of the fluid (A + B) causes the displacement of the piston 31 to a point of equilibrium or the pressure due to the pressure drop caused by the new section of passage between piston and needle will counterblank the new thrust of spring 33.
As a function of the deflection of the spring, the shape of the needle 30 can be calculated so that the variation of the passage section results in each instantaneous flow of the
fluid (A + B) arriving at 3 the desired force of spring 33 and by
therefore the fluid pressure (A + B). The initial calibration of the res
sort can be adjusted by the axial displacement of the needle 30. On
note that, in this example, the above-mentioned adjustment can be ensured
by the modification of the pressure of the fluid B whose force results
aunt is added on the piston 31 to that of the spring 33.
The arrival of the mixture (A + B) from inlet 3 concen
trially with fluid A allows the mixture A + (A + B) which re
in turn, and also concentrically, the fluid B coming from
from the inlet 4 and entering the tubular part 32.
In this example, the mixtures are carried out inside
this tubular part 32 which supports the injector holder 8a; this
part crosses the body right through and feed throats
tion 34, 35, 36, provided in this room, fall opposite the
three inputs 2, 3, 4 of fluids in the body 1a. Exit 23a of the
part 32 has a male thread 37 that can be screwed directly
ment on the suction port of the pump body. The tightening of the
part 32 ensures the locking, in all desirable positions, of the ap
the same on the body of the pump itself; The tightness of the whole
is provided by seals 38 between the head of the part 32 and the
body 1a, and at 39 between the body 1a and the pump (not shown).
Note the interest of part 32 which eliminates any connection
connection and allows great ease of assembly or disassembly
mounting the device. It is clear that this piece, whose role is
to simplify the installation and maintenance operations of the AP
the same does not in any way modify the principle of operation
ment of the device.
Reference will now be made to FIG. 3, which represents an example of application of the invention to the process for gasification of liquid fuels by emulsifying them with water; the combustion of this emulsion can then be done in a bur
their classic or specialized, with mechanical spraying, at flow rate
laughing.
Such a use, the beneficial effects of which on atmospheric pollution by removing solid unburnt material are known, can only be satisfactory if the constancy of the water-fuel proportions is correctly ensured for all the burner flow rates and if the dosage of the water in the mixture is very rigorous and perfectly reliable for a given setting. It is also important that the application of the process to a conventional burner does not entail material and assembly costs out of proportion with the value of the burner and that the size of the material to be adapted does not represent a technical hindrance, even aesthetic. The invention finds a successful application here by providing the required qualities of dosage, mixing and regulation and by generally integrating without any difficulty into the burner by direct adaptation to its pump body.
It is seen in fig. 3 a two-stage burner 40, provided by two nozzles 41 and 42 operating separately or simultaneously.
The pump P of the burner receives the device I described directly at its suction port. The inlet 2 of the latter is connected to a water network 45 A via a magnetic isolation valve 43 directly attached to the body of the device I and a pressure reducing valve 44. The inlet 4 is connected to the network 46 for the low pressure distribution of fuel B to the burner. Input 3 is connected to the discharge chamber of the pressure limiter R of pump P.
The latter, if it cannot itself ensure the emulsification of the mixture supplied by the device I, discharges into an emulsifier 47, the outlet of which is directed towards the nozzle holder 40 bypassing the pressure limiter R.
On the graph of fig. 4, it can be seen that for a fuel flow rate D ranging from 46 to 140 liters / hour, i.e. roughly in the ratio of 1 to 3, the corresponding water flow rate d follows a Z curve with a practically constant percentage of water in the emulsion (30.5%), the differences being less than + 1.5%. The water injection pressure is 2.4 bars. The Y curve represents the variation of the return pressure (A + B) as a function of D.
The advantages of the apparatus described are numerous. We can cite in particular:
- absence of pressure drops at the suction of the pump P on the fluid inlet (B) and consequently the elimination of the risk of cavitation of the latter;
- direct action of a large amplitude pressure variation on only one (A) of the two fluids to be dosed, resulting in interesting simplicity and great reliability;
- adjustment of the instantaneous flow rate of the fluid A being effected by a pressure variation upstream of a calibrated orifice 43, hence very high dosing precision if the injector is of a type which causes only a small amount flow variation for a large pressure variation;
- concentric inlets of fluids allowing a very fine and very homogeneous mixture;
;
- Very small size of the device allowing its direct adaptation to the pump body P (fig. 3) thus eliminating any connecting piping in which deposits can occur and alter the quality of the mixture and therefore of the emulsion;
- possibility of carrying out maintenance on the appliance without modifying the settings made;
- safety preventing the introduction of fluid B or mixture A + B into the fluid A network as a result of an accidental drop in pressure in the latter;
- simplicity of the technological design of the device allowing a low cost price.
The method described can also be applied to the flow rate regulation of a burner of the so-called modulating type using variable flow rate nozzles.
