The present invention relates to a hand-held device for applying adhesive tape with means for the rotatable mounting of a roll of adhesive tape and a side handle, which is provided with a cutting edge in the area of the lower narrow side serving to drive over objects to be glued, next to which the tape inlet side protrudes from the device The end of a band deflecting and pressing member is located, which is adjustable in two positions in the device, so that the track section of the tape in the cutting area is higher than the cutting edge in one position of the deflecting member, furthermore with a device for blocking the deflecting member in its lower position, for the unlocking of which a manually operated trigger element provided on the handle is used.
A device of this type is known. With the exception of the molded handle, almost all of the parts are made of metal. In addition, the mechanics are relatively complex and multi-part. As a result, the device is very expensive to manufacture and the price is extremely high.
The present invention is based on the object of simplifying the construction of the device in order to achieve a significantly lower sales price in such a way that all essential parts can be made from thermoplastic material. It is known that the production of parts with difficult shapes from thermoplastic material is much cheaper than from metal and that thermoplastic parts are usually molded in the injection molds for assembly, while metal parts have to be formed by expensive punching and drilling work.
The invention consists in that the deflection element is designed as a slide that can be moved up and down, along which the corresponding track section of the belt runs on the handle side and that on the slide on its side facing the belt track a spring action pushes outwards towards the slide , is arranged with a stationary stop interacting locking member, while on the handle side of the track section of the belt there is a release plunger that can be moved against the locking member by the release member of the handle.A slide is a solid body and is much better suited for manufacture from thermoplastic material and for storage between plastic plates as an axle-mounted pivot lever. In addition, the blocking device becomes simpler.
In the drawing, an embodiment according to the invention is shown. Show it:
I shows a side view of the device with the cover plates removed,
2 shows the lower corner area of the device on the handle side with an additional, manually operated adjusting element for the lower slide stop,
3 shows the slide area of the device with the slide in the upper position (with the knife protection bar drawn in dashed lines),
4 shows the side view of the central, covered device area,
5 shows the storage area for the roll of adhesive tape in side view and
FIG. 6 shows the top view of the storage area according to FIG. 5.
The base body 1 of the housing consists of the shell-shaped region la ends forming the slide chamber, the side of the handle longitudinal part 1b and and above the bearing plate 1c for the tape roll 2 are formed directly. In the area of the lower narrow side 1d there are the pressure roller 3, a knife 4, and a slidably mounted pressure and deflection element, one behind the other in the direction of tape feed, whose lower pressure or deflection area is designed as a rotatably mounted elastic roller 6.
The slide 5 consists of a one-piece hollow body, onto which two plane-parallel bearing plates 5a are formed, between which the rotatable roller 6 is located. It slides with lateral guide webs 5b in guide grooves lf, 7a of the base body area la and the cover plate 7. It is oriented obliquely so that its direction of movement with the handle longitudinal axis X forms a downwardly open acute angle.
This angle is preferably selected such that the slide surface 5c on the handle side is aligned approximately with the bearing area le for the tape roll 2. On the mentioned slide side 5c there is a leaf spring 8 attached to the slide 5 with an angled arm 8a and pushed outward by internal tension. Its free end pointing upwards and serving as a stop edge latches in the lower slide position with a metal, stationary, as a stop serving web 9. A fork-shaped rearwardly projecting tongue 8c, which laterally abuts against the web 9 and protrudes beyond the stop edge 8b of the spring 8, is formed on the end region of the leaf spring 8. The slide 5 is urged into its lower locked position by a tension spring 10.
In its end positions, the slider impact is dampened by rubber-elastic stop plates 11a, 11b. The adhesive tape 2a running off the roll 2 runs along the outside of the metal web 9 and the leaf spring 8 and then loops around the roll 6 in order to be rolled up by the latter onto the surface to be glued.
Between obliquely downwardly inclined guide webs Ig, lh of the handle part 1b, a plunger 12 designed as a slide bar is mounted so as to be longitudinally displaceable. The upper arm 13a of the triggering member 13, which is designed as a two-armed trigger and is pivotably mounted about the pivot point 14, engages in a recess 12b in the sliding bar. In the lower lever arm 13b, an adjusting screw 15 is provided for adjusting the pivoting path. When the trigger is actuated, the screw strikes against the wall li of the handle.
The tension spring 16 is used to return the sliding bar 12 to its starting position.
The plate 17 (FIG. 4) serves to cover the handle. While the adhesive tape is being applied, the slide 5 is in its lower position (corresponding to FIG. 1). The two rollers 3, 6 are moved over the surface to be glued, the adhesive tape 2a being unrolled and applied. To cut through the tape, the trigger 13 is used, which moves the slide bar 12 against the leaf spring 8 This is moved against the slide 5 and unlocked, whereby the slide 5 moves into its upper position due to the tensile stress in the tape 2a (Fig. 3). As a result, the tape 2a comes into contact with the knife edge and is severed. Once this has happened, the spring 10 pulls the slide 5 back into its lower position, in which the leaf spring 8 latches again with the web 9.
Since the abutting edge 12a of the push bar 12 hits the adhesive side of the tape 2a during the release movement, an adhesive bond is created (Fig.
3), which secures the free end of the tape after the cutting process and holds it ready for a new bond under the roll 6.
Below the roll of adhesive tape 2 there is also provided the leaf spring 18 fixed on one side, which rests tangentially against the roll shell and brakes the kinetic energy of the roll 2 after the cutting process. This measure also prevents the free end of the tape from being pulled into the device after the cutting process. The braking effect of the spring 18 is the more intense, the larger the roller circumference is and increases with decreasing roller diameter, i.e.
decreasing kinetic energy of the roller 2.
In Fig. 2 the possible arrangement of a manually operated adjusting member for the optional lifting of the housing stop which determines the lower slide position is shown. This consists of a rotary knob 19 located in the lower area of the guide groove 7a on the outside of the cover plate 7, which is rotationally connected via an axis to an eccentric 19a located on the inside of the cover plate 7. If the eccentric 19a is in the position shown, the slide 5 moves into its lowest position shown in FIG. 1. The blocking between the leaf spring 8 and the web 9 comes into operation. The device is thus set up for direct application of adhesive tape.
If the eccentric 19a is pivoted upward in the direction of movement of the slide 5 by turning the button 19, the slide 5 strikes against the eccentric in a slightly higher position before the blocking device 8, 9 has come into operation. In this way, strips of adhesive tape can be pulled out by hand and severed by the knife 4 without the trigger element 13 having to be operated for the cutting process. The cutting process is now initiated in that the slide 5 is pressed upwards (flatter) by a sudden change in the pull-out direction, as a result of which tape 2a and knife 4 come into cutting contact with one another.
4 shows the cover plates 7 and 17, of which the plate 7 closes the slide chamber 1a 'and at the same time forms the second plate 7c for the roller attachment, while the plate 17 represents the longitudinal part of the upper handle. A narrow tape insertion slot 25 is located between these two plates. Thus, when changing a tape roll 2, the beginning of the tape does not have to be laboriously threaded through the device, but is pushed in laterally through the slot 25. So that the device nevertheless has the greatest possible stability and the transition area between the lower plate parts 1 a and 1 b is not overloaded, the two plates 7, 17 are connected to one another by a pivotable bolt 20.
This rotates about the axis 20a and latches at the point 20b with a preferably metal projection 21 of the plate 7. To unlock the handle lb, 17 is pressed towards the plate 7, while at the same time - preferably with the thumb of the handle comprehensive hand - the bolt 20 is pivoted back.
5 and 6 show the roller bearing between the two plates 1c, 7c. The bearing axis consists of an insert pin 22, onto which the bracket formed from the two legs 22a and 22b is formed at right angles on one side. The inner leg 22b is so much shorter than the outer leg 22a that when the bracket is swiveled up, it ends above the edge of the board, so that the pin 22 can be pulled out of the bearing bores to replace the roll of adhesive tape 2. If the pin 22 is inserted again, the bracket is pivoted downwards into the horizontal position. The end area of the inner leg 22b engages behind a board edge area.
As a result, and by an additional locking projection 23 on the inside of the plate, which is preferably made of metal, the bracket is secured and can only be pivoted back into the vertical by hand if it is intended.
The obstacle formed by the locking projection 23 is overcome by the inherent springiness of the legs 22a, 22b.
Since, as already mentioned, tape strips can also be pulled out and cut by hand, it is advisable to provide a knife protection strip on the tape inlet side in front of the knife in order to prevent the risk of injury due to the free-standing knife edge. Such a protective strip is shown in dashed lines in Fig. 3 and denoted by 23 As soon as the slide 5 moves up to initiate the cutting process or the pulling direction is changed accordingly when the tape is pulled out by hand, the tape 2a pushes the protective strip 23 against the action of the Spring 24 (or springs) upwards, so that the cutting contact between the knife 4 and the band 2a comes about.
