The present invention is directed to a fiber-reinforced plastic pipe, a method and an apparatus for the continuous production of this plastic pipe.
Fiber-reinforced pipes made of plastics have long been made preferably from thermosetting plastics, for example from unsaturated polyester reaction resins and epoxy reaction resins. As a rule, glass fibers in the form of rovings or ribbons, which are soaked with the resin, are used as reinforcement inserts.
More recently, instead of glass fibers, other fibers, such as carbon fibers, boron fibers, synthetic fibers based on polyamide and polyvinyl chloride, etc., have also been used. Fine denier metallic fibers are also suitable.
It is generally known to manufacture glass fiber reinforced pipes using the winding process. The principle of this process consists in impregnating rovings or glass fabric tapes with reaction resin in an impregnation device, removing excess resin in a stripping device and wrapping them in layers on a cylindrical mandrel rotating around a horizontal axis and then allowing them to harden.
There are continuously working winding systems in which a continuously extruded tube made of polyvinyl chloride as an inner liner is completely covered in the longitudinal direction with rovings, which are fixed by circumferential windings that are close to one another. Gimbal-mounted impregnating belts with the associated coils rotate around the polyvinyl chloride tube, which is slowly moving in the axial direction.
According to another known continuous process, an endless steel belt is forcibly wound onto a mandrel-like carrier system. The outer surface of the carrier system consists of a large number of special metal profiles lying next to one another and arranged in a star shape to the axis, which hold ball-bearing rollers at a distance of a few centimeters over their entire length. The surface of the carrier system consists of a large number of rollers on which the wound steel strip can slide on the one hand in the circumferential direction and on the other hand, as a result of the forced winding, also in the axial direction. At the unsupported end, the steel band is pulled off and forcibly rewound by the carrier system after a few diversions.
This mechanism results in a rotating surface that moves slowly forward in the axial direction, which continuously displaces the wound laminate in the axial direction. The laminate passes through a curing oven. The winding core only ends shortly before the end of the curing oven.
The vetch shot is then cut into the desired lengths using a cutting device that moves along with it.
These known methods are very complex and involve relatively long production times. The pipes manufactured according to this known method have a low force absorption capacity in the axial direction, so that they are susceptible to bending stresses.
The present invention has set itself the task of creating a fiber-reinforced plastic pipe as well as a method and a device for the continuous production of this pipe, this plastic pipe not only having good strength values in the radial direction but also in the axial direction. The associated method according to the invention and the device according to the invention only enable the production of plastic pipes with such strength values and also allow a particularly profitable production compared to the previous methods.
The fiber-reinforced plastic tube according to the invention, which consists of a thermosetting material with a fiber reinforcement, is characterized in that the fiber reinforcement consists of at least one hose-like, endless knitted fabric soaked in the thermosetting material.
According to a particular embodiment, the fiber reinforcement of the plastic pipe additionally has at least one circumferential winding layer made of fiber material. This circumferential winding system is also soaked in the thermoset material.
Unsaturated polyester reaction resins and epoxy resins are preferably used as thermoset materials.
For the fiber reinforcement, rovings made from glass fibers, but also from carbon fibers, boron fibers, metal fibers, natural and synthetic fibers and mixed fibers are preferably used to produce the knitted fabric. The same fiber materials are suitable for the wrapping layer. The strength properties can be varied both in the circumferential direction and in the longitudinal direction of the pipe by changing the mesh direction and number of meshes. The variation of the mesh density and mesh size allows the fiber content in the thermoset to be adjusted. By using different types of fibers in a knitted fabric or for different layers, strength levels can be achieved.
When using electrically conductive fibers there is the particular advantage that these reinforcement inserts can be used as electrical heating by providing them with power supply lines.
Electrically conductive reinforcement inserts can also advantageously be used to dissipate electrostatic charges. Thermoplastic plastics, such as, for example, polyvinyl chloride, polypropylene, polyamide, etc., are preferably suitable as inner liners which may be used. Prefabricated metallic pipes can also be used as inner liners. As far as thermoplastic inner liners are concerned, these can preferably be extruded immediately before the application of the thermoset material and application of the fiber reinforcement.
According to the inventive method for the continuous production of the plastic pipe, a core is coated with a flowable thermoset material and a reinforcement is applied to the coating, which is soaked in the thermoset material, and the thermoset material is then cured. What is new can be seen in the fact that the fiber reinforcement is created by knitting the core.
In this way, a fiber reinforcement is produced, which consists of a coherent structure both in the circumferential direction and in the longitudinal direction, and therefore also ensures particularly good strength values of the finished pipe not only in the radial direction but also in the axial direction.
For the production of particularly heavy-duty pipes, several layers of thermoset material and several layers of fiber material can be applied alternately.
In order to increase the radial strength, the method provides, according to a particular embodiment, that at least one fiber material intermediate layer is applied in the wrapping method in the form of rovings or ribbons.
A variant which is particularly advantageous in terms of process technology is to be seen in the fact that the impregnation of the knitted-on fiber reinforcement is brought about by the pressing force generated when the pipe is knitted on and pulled off.
In order to achieve high strengths, the knitted fabric is preferably pretensioned by the pull-off force acting on the tube. The pre-tension is fixed during hardening.
For the production of pipes with a specific inner profile, for example round profile, polygonal profile, elliptical profile, a correspondingly profiled core designed as a mandrel or inner liner is preferably used.
The mandrel or inner liner preferably rotates so that the supplied thermosetting material is stripped from the application nozzle. To avoid an uneven coating, it has proven to be advantageous to move the mandrel back and forth in the axial direction.
The device according to the invention for carrying out the method is characterized by a core, around which an application nozzle is provided concentrically and a knitting head downstream of this, which is followed by a curing oven. The application nozzle consists, for example, of a small storage container, at the bottom of which an exchangeable wiping nozzle is provided, which surrounds the mandrel or inner liner leaving a gap.
Knitting heads are available in different variations on the market, such as those used for the production of jersey goods. Several application nozzles and knitting heads are preferably arranged alternately one after the other. If a mandrel is used, a curing oven should be provided behind the first knitting head so that the first layer solidifies and can serve as a carrier for the other layers. The thermoset, which is still applied to this carrier, is finally cured in a second curing oven at the end of the device.
At least one circumferential winding device is preferably also provided. The devices used in the known winding processes, with which, for example, rovings or fabric strips are supplied, are suitable for this purpose.
The mandrel is preferably equipped with a rotary drive. Alternatively, the knitting head is provided with a rotary drive.
The device is preferably arranged on a vehicle so that pipes can be continuously produced immediately when they are laid on the spot. In this way, extraordinary cost savings are achieved when laying long pipelines.
Of course, however, the continuously produced pipe string, especially in the case of stationary systems, can be cut to the appropriate pipe lengths. If necessary, these pipe sections are provided with flanges.
In a drawing, the fiber-reinforced plastic pipe according to the invention and the associated device according to the invention will now be shown purely schematically and explained in more detail below. Show it:
1 shows the plastic pipe according to the invention with inner liner, in part, in cross section,
2 shows the plastic pipe according to the invention without inner liner, in part, in cross section,
3 shows a vertical device for producing the plastic pipes in a purely schematic representation, and
4 shows a device, which is arranged lying on a vehicle, for the production and direct laying of the plastic pipes, likewise in a purely schematic representation.
In Fig. 1, the fiber-reinforced plastic pipe 1 consists of an inner liner 2 on which a thermoset layer 3 is arranged. A fiber reinforcement 4 is embedded in this thermosetting plastic layer 3. It is composed of an inner knitted fabric layer 5, a circumferential winding 6 made of rovings and an outer knitted fabric layer 7.
In FIG. 2, the fiber-reinforced plastic pipe 8 consists of a thermoset layer 9 applied in several layers, in which a fiber reinforcement 10 is embedded. This is made up of an inner knitted fabric insert 11, a circumferential winding layer 12 and an outer knitted fabric layer 13.
3 shows a core designed as a mandrel 14 which is set in rotation by means of gear wheels 15, 16 by means of a motor 17. The mandrel 14 is surrounded by an application nozzle 18, which is fed with thermosetting material from a storage container 20 via a supply line 19. The application nozzle 18 is followed by a circular knitting head 21 to which glass fiber threads 22 are fed from a supply roll 23. A curing oven 24 is arranged behind the circular knitting head 21 in the working direction. When the plastic pipe 25 emerges from the curing oven 24, a circumferential winding 26 of rovings 28 located on a supply roll 27 is placed on it. The winding takes place by turning the plastic tube 25, which is set in rotation by means of a drive 29.
A second layer of thermoset material is applied by means of a further application nozzle 30 charged with thermosetting material via the line 19. A second knitted fabric layer is laid on by means of a second circular knitting head 31 and soaked in a thermosetting plastic before it solidifies in the curing oven 32. After hardening, another circumferential winding 33 is applied. A third application nozzle 34 provides for the application of a further layer of thermosetting material, onto which a further layer of knitted fabric is placed by means of a third circular knitting head 35. The circular knitting heads 21, 31 and 35 are set in rotation by a common drive 36 via a transmission shaft 37. The last applied thermoset layer is fixed in the curing oven 38. The plastic pipe 25 is drawn off by means of a pair of draw-off rollers 39, 40.
In FIG. 4, the device according to the invention is mounted on a vehicle 41. A core designed as an inner liner 43 is extruded from an extruder 42, onto which a thermoset is applied by means of a first application nozzle 44. A knitted fabric 46 is knitted around the inner liner 43 with a first circular knitting head 45, and a circumferential winding layer 48 is placed thereon by means of a circumferential winding device 47. A layer of thermosetting material is applied again by means of a second application nozzle 49 and a second knitted fabric layer 51 is then applied by means of a second circular knitting head 50. Finally, by means of a third application nozzle 52, thermosetting material is applied again and a third knitted fabric layer 54 is applied by means of a circular knitting head 53. The thermoset is finally fixed in a curing oven 55.
The finished plastic pipe 56 finally runs over a support roller 57 directly into the trench prepared for laying (not shown). The vehicle 41 moves forward at the operating speed of the device.
