Folgende Reaktionen bieten sich für das erfindungs- gemäss Verfahren an: Oxydationen. z.B. Me + y/2O2 # MeOy;
2 Reduktionen, z. B. MeO + H2 # Me + H2O, MeClx + H2 # MeClx - n (n = 1 bis x) + HCl; Redoxreaktionen, z. B.
MeOz + CxHy # MeCm + CO + H2; Zersetzungsreaktionen, z. B. MeClx o Me + 1Ax Cl2;
Kohlenwasserstoffe # AcetylenlÄthylen + H2,
SiO2-SiO + /2x 02; Austauschreaktionen, z. B.
MeCLx + 1/2XH2O # MeOx/2 + xHCl; Zersetzungs - und Rekombinationsreaktionen, z. B.
SiO2 # SiO + 1/2 O2 ) SiO2,
Use of vortex-stabilized plasma torches to carry out chemical reactions
The invention relates to the use of vortex-stabilized plasma torches for carrying out chemical reactions.
It is known to use the plasma generator to carry out chemical reactions.
In this case, noble gases or, preferably, diatomic gases such as hydrogen, are used as the plasma gas. When using vortex-stabilized plasma torches, one of the stabilizing fluids used is water. These gases (including the water plasma) are in most cases only energy carriers that transfer the required heat to the reactants that are used for conversion.
Since most of the reactants used for chemical conversion have a corrosive effect on the electrodes and the housing of the plasma generator under the conditions prevailing there, the reactants are only passed into a special reaction chamber cm after the generator in the emerging plasma jet and made to react.
The disadvantage of these known methods is a considerable loss of energy. When diatomic gases such as hydrogen are used, the energy loss can be reduced to a small extent, but in this case there is increased wear on the electrodes. This also means that the desired end products are contaminated by the electrode material.
The aim of the invention is to carry out the chemical processes with an increased energy yield, while dispensing with a plasma gas that does not participate in the reaction.
According to the invention, this can be achieved by using at least one of the reactants as the stabilizing medium.
The stabilizing agent is preferably an at least diatomic substance with a boiling point higher than 730 Kelvin, suitably higher than 1730 Kelvin.
Preferred is the stabilizing agent, i. H. at least one of the reactants, in liquid or solid form. It is advisable to let the stabilizing agent rotate around the plasma catheter. This can be achieved in various ways, for example by introducing it tangentially or by rotating the vessel walls surrounding the plasma jet.
The conditions for liquid reactants must be chosen so that the wall of the generator is always covered with liquid. This means that external cooling may be necessary in the case of low-boiling liquids.
As a result of the measures according to the invention, the chemical conversion can be carried out in the space between the electrodes, the stabilizing agent simultaneously becoming the plasma.
The dense layer of the stabilizing agent in the vessel between the electrodes protects the vessel walls against both the effect of the plasma jet and the radiation that occurs.
The resulting reaction products are withdrawn directly from the plasma chamber (plasma vessel). There is the possibility of taking off these reaction products radially at several points. This is important for reactions that can result in several products. In this way, it is possible to pull off all of these resulting products separately at optimal points. For this purpose, the plasma vessel is expediently divided axially into several parts (sectors) by double diaphragms, whereby the products can be drawn off in the gaps between the diaphragms.
It is advantageous to use the stabilizing medium in excess and allow it to run off through the diaphragms. As a result, the products to be removed, mixed with stabilizing agent, are removed and already quenched.
According to the invention it is possible to add several reactants mixed together or separately, possibly at different temperatures, as a stabilizing medium, in which case double diaphragms are expediently used. If the vessel is designed in such a way that so-called barriers protrude beyond the stabilization fluid, it is possible to carry out several different reactions separately and simultaneously with a plasma arc. The barriers must be designed so that the axial length not covered by the liquid is so short that double arcing is avoided.
By choosing the diameter of the diaphragm openings in the individual sectors, one can achieve axial temperature distributions in the arch.
The following reactions are suitable for the process according to the invention: Oxidations. e.g. Me + y / 2O2 # MeOy;
2 reductions, e.g. B. MeO + H2 # Me + H2O, MeClx + H2 # MeClx - n (n = 1 to x) + HCl; Redox reactions, e.g. B.
MeOz + CxHy # MeCm + CO + H2; Decomposition reactions, e.g. B. MeClx o Me + 1Ax Cl2;
Hydrocarbons # acetylene / ethylene + H2,
SiO2-SiO + / 2x 02; Exchange reactions, e.g. B.
MeCLx + 1 / 2XH2O # MeOx / 2 + xHCl; Decomposition and recombination reactions, e.g. B.
SiO2 # SiO + 1/2 O2) SiO2,
Al2O3 # 2AlO + 1 / 2O2 # Al2O3 (with a change in nature).
By using the burrier it is possible to carry out two or more of these reactions at the same time in one go
To carry out the invention, a plasma generator with fluid stabilization (vortex stabilization with liquids, solids) can be used, which in principle consists of the following parts: a cathode chamber with a cathode, a plasma vessel for vortex stabilization of the arc and an open or closed anode chamber with an anode.
Examples 1. Redukilon
In a liquid-stabilized plasma reactor (sketch) with cathode 7 made of graphite and rotating hollow anode 14 made of copper, the plasma vessel is located between the electrodes, which is made up of parts of barrier 11, diaphragm 10 and double diaphragm with diaphragms 8 and 9 and auxiliary diaphragms or barriers 12 . The stabilizing liquid, in the present case TiCl4, is fed tangentially into the chamber through inlets 1 and 3 and is partially withdrawn through outlets 2 and 4. This creates a circulation of TiCl between inlet 1 and outlet 2 and between inlet 3 and outlets 2 and 4.
Part of the TiCl4 is vaporized by the arc burning between the electrodes 7 and 14 and converted into the plasma state. The circulating TiCl4 stabilizes the arch and forces it to have the desired diameter. The temperature is set by the selected current strength, in the present case about 500 amperes and diameter, in the present case between 7 and 13 mm.
The rotating hollow anode is made to rotate by the drive 5 and cooled by the system 6.
An outer vessel 1b, which also encloses the hollow anode, tightly adjoins the plasma vessel.
In the present case, the second reactant, namely hydrogen, is fed in through the inlet 15. In the outer vessel 16, the conversion of TiCl1 takes place according to the equation TiCl4 + 1/2 Ho ç TiCls + HC1. The reaction products are drawn off in a suitable manner through the discharge nozzles 17 and 18.
In the plasma vessel itself, another reaction takes place in the section between the double diaphragm 8 and 9 and the cathode 7, namely titanium carbide and chlorine are formed from the carbon of the cathode and a part of TiCl, , together with excess TiCl4 (stabilizing agent), is removed. The reaction products are quenched in the process. Depending on the length of the section and the withdrawal speed through opening 2, the proportion of the carbide formation reaction can be changed.
2. Cleavage reaction
In a plasma generator as in Example 1, SiC14 is fed in as a stabilizing agent and reactant.
By selecting the current strength (about 500 A) and the diameter of the diaphragms (about 5 mm), the temperature is brought to the necessary level for carrying out the reaction SiCl2 # 51+ 2Cl2. In contrast to example 1, in this case there is a water-cooled copper plate 19 in the outer vessel 16.
A voltage that differs from that of the rotating anode 14 is applied to this copper plate. As a result, a second discharge is applied to the plasma jet 13 between the anode and the copper plate. The decomposition reaction takes place in the plasma chamber. A feared recombination is prevented by the second discharge. The silicon metal condenses on the cooled copper plate, drips off from there and is removed through outlet 20. The second reaction product, gaseous chlorine, is withdrawn through 17 and 18.
3. Exchange reactions
As a stabilizing agent, water is introduced into a plasma generator as in Example 1. Through feed device 15, fine-powdered quartz sand is blown into the plasma jet 13 with the help of air. The exchange reaction takes place between the evaporating quartz sand and the water plasma. At least some of the oxygen in the SiO2 is exchanged with oxygen in the H2O plasma. The gaseous products are quenched by water that is injected through the annular shower 21 and discharged through the outlet nozzles 17 and 18.
4. Oxidation reactions
As a stabilizing agent, TiCl2 is introduced into a plasma generator as in Example 1. Oxygen is introduced through 15 into the plasma jet 13. The reaction TiC1 / 4 + O2 # Ti O2 + 2 Cl8 takes place in the Au Ben container. After quenching, the reaction products are discharged through outlets 17 and 18.
5. Redox reaction
As a stabilizing agent, water is introduced into a phase generator as in Example 1. In contrast to the earlier examples, an iron wire is used as the cathode, which serves as a second reaction component.
Depending on the extent of the burn, this cathode is continuously moved in the idle plasma chamber so that the arch attachment always remains in the same place.
The reaction products, namely Fe8O4 and H2, are discharged in aqueous suspension through outlet 2.
If FeS is additionally applied to the surface of the slowly redrawing anode and water enriched with oxygen is introduced through inlet 3 and instead of auxiliary diaphragm 12 a barrier which has a diameter so much smaller that it protrudes above the water surface, i.e. If the plasma vessel divides into two sections, the second reaction 2FeS + 1 / 2O2 # Fe2O3 + 2SO2 takes place in the outer vessel.
The reaction products are quenched and discharged.
