Method of manufacturing a solid electrolyte fuel cell battery
The present invention constitutes an improvement of the method of manufacturing a fuel cell battery defined in claim II of the main patent, the content of which is as follows:
A method of manufacturing a solid-electrolyte fuel cell battery, characterized in that a first layer is deposited on a porous support, comprising alternately parts of an electronically conductive material each forming the first electrode of the cell. 'one of the batteries and sealed parts made of an electronically non-conductive material, so that the sealed parts each form insulation between the electrodes,
which is deposited on this first layer of the parts each forming the electrolyte of one of the cells so that each of these parts covers the major part of the first electrode of the corresponding cell and a part of the insulation separating it from the first electrode of one of the neighboring batteries, then parts made of an electronically conductive waterproof material,
so that each of these latter parts covers the major part of the insulation separating two electrodes and the part not covered by the electrolyte of one of these electrodes, and that one finally deposits on the second layer thus formed a third layer comprising separate parts of an electronically conductive material each forming the second electrode of one of the cells, so that each of these latter parts covers the major part of the electrolyte of one of the cells and that one of its ends is connected to the electronically conductive part of the second layer partially covering the first electrode of the neighboring cell.
In the main patent, a device is described which comprises a removable cover consisting essentially of a plurality of removable bars placed, when the cover is used, in a plane parallel to the axis of the tube used as a support for the battery, the greatest length of these bars being arranged perpendicular to the axis of this tube. Such a cover makes it possible to delimit, during the projection of the molten powders on the tube, the zones of the tube affected by the projection and those which are blocked. The use of this cover makes it possible, in general, to obtain good results as regards, in particular, the delimitation of the various elements of the battery in the longitudinal direction of the support tube.
However, in certain cases, in particular when using tubes of large diameter, for example greater than 1 cm, it is difficult to obtain the deposition of layers of a perfectly uniform thickness in the longitudinal direction, despite the causes the support tube to be subjected to rotation about its axis during projections. This is due to the fact that the thickness of the layers obtained depends to a large extent on the distance between the gun of the plasma heater and the wall of the tube on which the spraying is carried out.
In the case where the gun is placed at a distance of 10 cm from the tube and where the diameter of this, er- nier is 1 cm, the variation between the distance to the gun from the generator of the tube closest to the gun and that of the generators delimiting the deposition zone at a given instant is of the order of 50/0. This variation is 20 / o if the gun is placed at a distance of 5 cm from the tube and if the latter has a diameter of 2 cm.
The result of this is that the variation in parallax in the longitudinal direction, inevitable during projection, results in obtaining a gradient in the thickness of each ring since the parts at the periphery of each ring correspond to projections in points farther from the torch than from the center of the rings and above all at a more grazing angle.
Further, it should be mentioned that the material density in the section of the plasma jet as well as the temperature thereof are not uniform. The aim of the invention is therefore to improve the homogeneity of the thickness of the layers by limiting in the direction parallel to the axis of the tube Ia the width of the zones exposed to the surface.
ejection.
The method which constitutes the object of the invention is characterized by the fact that the deposition of the layers is carried out by spraying powders with a plasma torch on the support, in the form of a tube, by masking certain areas of the tube by means of a cover interposed between the torch and the tube and in which is formed a slot parallel to the axis of the tube arranged facing the tube with respect to the plasma torch, so as to delimit the exposed areas both in the lateral direction than in the longitudinal direction of the tube.
The single figure of the appended drawing represents, front view, an embodiment of the cover used during the implementation of the method according to the invention.
This cover is constituted by a plate 1 of suitable material, for example, stainless steel, in which have been formed parallel elongated openings 2, spacing and width corresponding to the areas that it is desired to leave exposed to the projection.
In front of this plate are fixed, on either side of the exposed area, two rectangular plates 3, for example in the same material and of the same thickness as the plate 1, fixed on the plate 1 by means of clamping screws 4 passing through elongated holes 5 so as to allow the displacement of said plates laterally.
A slot 6 is thus defined parallel to the axis of the tube onto which it is projected, this slot having a variable width depending on the position of the plates 3 so that the width of the exposed areas can be varied. The plate 1 is fixed on a support 7 agency so as to allow the positioning of this plate in a plane parallel to the battery support tube. The plates 3 can also be placed behind the plate 1.
The use of this cover is identical to that described in the main patent.
Of course, this cover may have a shape other than that shown in the figure, provided that the lateral delimitation of the exposed zone of the tube is ensured. It is thus possible to adapt the cover shown in FIG. 9 of the main patent by providing it with two rectangular plates plates parallel to the plane of the bars and against the latter, these two plates being able to be separated from each other so as to provide a slot of variable width parallel to the axis of the tube and next to it.
The dimensions of the slot that one adopts depend on the diameter of the tube and the distance between the tube and the chalumean. For example, with a tube 1 cm in diameter placed 10 cm from the torch, very good results are obtained with a slot 0.5 cm in width.
Of course, the use of a device making it possible to vary the width of the slot allows the cover to be adapted to the projection conditions and to the use with tubes of variable diameter.
The use of a cover presented, in addition to the advantages mentioned above, that of allowing the plasma torch to be brought closer to the support tube on which it is projected without the latter being brisk by thermal shock because this cover also plays the role a heat shield. In general, bringing the heat closer to the tube is favorable to obtaining good quality layers.
Example
A cover designed to obtain rings with a theoretical width of 7 mm, that is to say comprising elongated horizontal openings of 7 mm width, is used on a support tube having a diameter of 10 mm, placed at 1 mm behind the cover. For a minimum projection distance of 90 mm, in the case of nickel aluminide deposition, rings with a real width of 8 mm are obtained, for an average thickness of 0.3 mm, if one does not do not use the device provided. On the other hand, if we use a cover provided with a slot 5 mm wide, parallel to the axis of the support tube, we obtain, all other things being equal, rings 7.5 mm wide.
It can be seen that the use of the mask makes it possible to obtain a notable improvement in the sharpness of the boundaries between the different parts of the conches which are placed on the support tube.
