Fluormethyl, 2-Fluoräthyl, 3- -Fluorpropyl, 4-Fluorbutyl, 5-Fluorpentyl, 6-Fluorhexyl, Chlormethyl, 2-Chloräthyl, 3-Chlorpropyl, 4-Chlorbutyl, 5-Chlorpentyl, 6-Chlorhexyl, 18-Chloroctadecyl, 1-Me- thyl-2-chloräthyl.

Process for the preparation of 2,6-dichloro-4- (R-thio) -pyridine-3,5-dicarbonitriles It has been found that compounds of the formula I
EMI0001.0000
<B> 2 </B> means where R is a straight or branched alkyl radical with up to 18 carbon atoms, which can be substituted one or more times by fluorine, chlorine and / or R, or a benzyl or phenylethyl radical , which can be substituted one or more times in the core by CN, OR2, NO2, halogen, COOR2 and / or R3, or a cyclopentyl or cyclohexyl radical, R1 CN, COOR2 or a lower alkoxy or alkylthio radical with up to 4 C. Atoms and R2 means a lower alkyl radical with up to 4 carbon atoms that are valuable pesticides.
In particular, the fungicidal effect was demonstrated in tests with the known test mushrooms Venturia inaequalis and Alternaria spec. proven. It was also found that the new compounds of the formula I can also be used advantageously in combination with other pest control agents, in particular with other fungicides.
The invention relates to a process for the manufacture of the 2,6-dichloro-4- (R-thio) pyridine-3,5-dicarbonitriles of the formula I.
The invention also relates to the use of the compounds of the formula I prepared according to the invention as active components in pesticides.
The effectiveness of the new compounds in terms of their fungicidal effect was e.g. determined in the spore germination test. The DL50 was determined, i.e. the amount of active ingredient (measured in mg / 100 cm2) that prevents the fungal spores from germinating by 50%. N-trichloromethylthiotetrahydrophthalimide and zinc dimethyldithiocarbamate were used as comparison substances. For example, 2,6-dichloro-4-methylthiopyridine-3,5-dicarbonitrile shows in these tests a fungicidal activity 3 or 7 times as strong as the comparison substances.
The radical R in the compounds of the formula I indicates a straight or branched alkyl radical with up to 18 carbon atoms. The following radicals are mentioned here as examples: methyl, ethyl, n-propyl, isopropyl, n-, sec- and tert-butyl, isobutyl, amyl, hexyl, heptyl-octyl, nonyl, decyl, undecyl, Dodecyl and the isomers of these compounds and the higher homologues with up to 18 carbon atoms.
The radicals mentioned can in each case be substituted one or more times by chlorine or also by fluorine. Primarily alkyl radicals which are terminally substituted by fluorine or chlorine (in particular by chlorine) are suitable, e.g.
Fluoromethyl, 2-fluoroethyl, 3-fluoropropyl, 4-fluorobutyl, 5-fluoropentyl, 6-fluorohexyl, chloromethyl, 2-chloroethyl, 3-chloropropyl, 4-chlorobutyl, 5-chloropentyl, 6-chlorohexyl, 18-chlorooctadecyl, 1 -Methyl-2-chloroethyl. Examples of radicals that are substituted several times by halogen are: 2,2,2-trifluoroethyl, 2,2,2-trichloroethyl, 2,3-dichloropropyl, 3,4-dichlorobutyl. If the radical R is substituted by CN, cyanomethyl, 2-cyanoethyl and 3-cyanopropyl are particularly suitable.
Typical radicals R substituted by COOR2 are carbomethoxymethyl, carbethoxymethyl and 2-carbethoxyethyl. Lower alkoxy or alkylthio radicals R1 are mainly methoxy, ethoxy, propoxy and butoxy or methylthio and ethylthio radicals. Usually only I-2 of these substituents are present.
If the aralkyl radicals mentioned for R are substituted in the nucleus by lower alkyl groups R, the methyl, ethyl and propyl groups are of particular importance.
Examples of aralkyl radicals are: benzyl, 1- or 2- phenylethyl, 4-cyano-benzyl, 4-methoxybenzyl, 4-nitrobenzyl, 2,4-dinitrobenzyl, 4-fluorobenzyl, 2-, 3- and 4- chlorobenzyl, 2- (4-chlorophenyl) ethyl, 2,4- and 2,6-dichlorobenzyl, 4-bromobenzyl, 4-carbethoxybenzyl, 4-methylbenzyl.
The new compounds are prepared by adding a pyridone derivative of the formula II
EMI0002.0010
in particular in which R has the meaning given and R 'is hydrogen or an equivalent of an alkali, alkaline earth or ammonium cation, treated with a chlorinating agent.
The chlorination of a compound of the formula II is carried out in a manner known per se by the action of chlorinating agents such as e.g. PCl5, PCl3, POCl3 or SOCl2 or mixtures of these substances. All organic solvents which are inert under these conditions, e.g. Benzene, toluene, xylene, pyridine, dimethylformamide or dimethylaniline or mixtures of these solvents can be used. In many cases it has also proven advantageous to use the chlorinating agent itself as a solvent. E.g. good yields achieved with the action of PCl5 in boiling POCl3.
The reaction temperatures in these chlorinations are generally between 50 and 160, the reaction times around 30 minutes to 6 hours. The work-up is carried out in a manner known per se, e.g. by decomposing the reaction mixture with ice water or alcohols, e.g. Methanol or ethanol, the desired compounds of the formula I generally already precipitating.
The pyridones of the formula II to be used as starting material can be obtained by reacting 3,3-bis- (alkylthio) -2-cyano-acrylic acid methyl ester with cyanoacetamide and then cyclizing the 2-carbomethoxy-3-alkylthio-4-carbamoyl obtained -glutaconic acid dinitrile with methanolic ammonia [method cf. J. Pharm. Soc. Japan, vol. 85, page 387 (1965)].
The compounds of the formula I can be processed into all application forms customary for pesticides. With the addition of the usual carriers and / or fillers, e.g. Spraying or dusting agents, and also dressing agents for the preservation of seeds, which can optionally contain further additives, dispersants or wetting agents. Processing to solutions or emulsions, e.g. Can also be sprayed as aerosols, succeeds with the use of appropriate additives. All application forms generally contain 1 to 95 o active substance.
In combination preparations, the proportion of the compounds of the formula I in the total active ingredient proportion is normally between 5 and The new compounds are intended to be used in pest control. They are particularly advantageous to use as fungicides, where they can be used both outdoors and as seed dressings. However, it is also possible to use compounds as anthelmintics, miticides, nematocides, herbicides and microbicides, in particular bactericides, where they are also preferably used in combination with other active ingredients.
In particular, the new compounds of the formula I have also proven useful in combating phytopathogenic bacteria, e.g. of Xanthomonas oryzae and Xanthomonas citri, which are known to frequently e.g. Rice and citrus crops infested.
Preferred process products are those of the formulas Ia, Ib and Ic: X <B> "</B> R, <B>, </B>
