Wave and corpuscular rays emit wave and corpuscular rays against radioactive rays, in particular gamma and neutron rays, encapsulating building materials and processes for their production. The shielding, scattering and braking of these rays on buildings is done by additives to the cement, whereby no significant reduction in the strength of the finished concrete may occur, since otherwise expenses are associated that no longer appear acceptable.
The main additives are barite, magnetite, hematite, and lead and lead compounds.
The known use of finely divided lead, expediently in a colloidal state, in the concrete offers protection against alpha, beta and gamma rays, but not or insufficiently against neutrons, since these do not carry any electrical charge. It is also known for radiation shielding to use heavy aggregates such as synthetic lead compounds or iron compounds and, as light additives, to use hydrogen-containing compounds such as water as crystal water, hydrogen in chemical compounds, e.g. as hydroxide or in organic compounds, as paraffin. In hydraulic binders such as concrete, both uniform distribution and compatibility must be guaranteed in order to largely maintain the strength of the concrete.
The same applies to non-hydraulic binders. Paraffin is not compatible with mortar binders, as well as with exterior and interior plasters, cement asbestos and gypsum compounds. With all of these substances, the strength would be decisively reduced to the point of uselessness.
It is also known to hold lead powder together with lead sulphate and small amounts of epoxy resin (e.g. 7%) in order to produce a cover. Similar proposals have been made with 5a / o epoxy resin. It is also known to use paraffin plates as radiation protection.
The incorporation of material components into the building material. Which neutrons slow down like carbon in the form of graphite, amorphous coal or hard coal or beryllium or one of the chemical compounds of beryllium in addition to the known neutron adsorbents boron, cadmium, lithium or their chemical connec tions is known.
However, it is of particular importance that the additives, on the one hand, in addition to the alpha, beta and gamma rays, also slow down the neutron rays that penetrate almost all matter and, on the other hand, that they are compatible with all types of building binders such as concrete, magnesia cement, exterior and interior plaster or cement asbestos or plasterboard.
According to the invention, a building material shielding against radioactive rays, in particular gamma and neutron rays, is proposed, the compounds of which meet all requirements for compatibility and strength, even when using larger quantities. This building material is characterized by a Ge content of 2.5 - 35% of compounds of saturated fatty acids with lead, bismuth, tungsten, zircon, iron, tin, cadmium, lifeline or barium.
These saturated fatty acids are preferably medium fatty acids (with C, 1 to C ") and / or stearic acid (with Q,) and / or higher fatty acids (with C = o -C" 3). As building materials, e.g. Concrete, magnesia cement, exterior and interior plaster or cement asbestos or plasterboard apply. The metal atoms mentioned above slow down the alpha, beta and gamma rays, while the medium or higher saturated organic fatty acids shield the neutrons. The braking effect for gamma rays depends on the atomic number of the element in the periodic system and on the density.
The elements cadmium, zirconium and lithium adsorb and scatter neutron rays, so that their fatty acid compounds exert a stronger neutron shielding. Stearic acid (C "H") and montanic acids (0, H56, etc.) are technically easily accessible and very suitable. As stearates or montanates, both neutral and basic e.g. Lead stearates can be used.
For example, the exterior and interior plasters in basements up to 35 0 lead stearate and the like can be applied in a layer thickness of 2-5 cm or more in order to achieve effective radiation protection.
The compounds can be easily incorporated into the mortar masses, if desired as with concrete, with high compaction being achieved. The incorporation can take place directly by first producing an aqueous dispersion with the aid of emulsifiers, ammonium compounds of saturated fatty acids being particularly suitable as emulsifiers, e.g. Ammonium stearate, as the ammonia volatilizes after a while and the acid residue adsorbs neutrons.
However, a process for the production of the building material according to the invention can also be used in which, using a hydraulic or non-hydraulic binding agent, the gestic acid is combined with the metals mentioned finely distributed in a solution of acid casein or in synthetic resins can be added to the basic building material mixtures.
As synthetic resins, e.g. Epoxy resins or VinyIkunst- resins such as vinyl acetate and / or. propionate is used, the latter being particularly suitable in emulsion form. It can be used in concrete, magnesia cement (Sorel cement), exterior and interior plaster or cement, asbestos or plasterboard.
The shielding effect can be increased by suitable additions of barite, boron carbide, boric acid, boron trioxide or iron waste such as iron filings, galena or lead or oxides, preferably in powdery or colloidal form.
