Andere geeignete Lösungsmittel sind u. a.

Beispiel 2 A) 170 Teile 4-[Bis(2-Chloräthyl)amino]-aαcyano- zimtsäureäthylester (Beispiel 1 A) werden in einer Lösung von 126 Teilen Natriumsulfit in 500 Teilen suspendiert.

Process for the production of methine dyes The present invention relates to a process for the production of new methine dyes which are partially or almost completely noun against cellulosic fibers and therefore particularly for dyeing paper or paper pulp or base paper with or without the use of Adhesive resin or aluminum sulfate can be used.
The compounds prepared according to the invention correspond to the formula (1)
EMI0001.0004
where Ar-SO3M is one of the following radicals (IIa-IId):
EMI0001.0005
Alkylene is a straight or branched aliphatic hydrocarbon chain with 2-4 carbon atoms, the sulfo group being attached to one of the carbon atoms designated by the numbers 2-4, n is 1 or 2, R is an alkyl, benzyl, Phenethyl, 2-hydroxyethyl, 2-cyanoethyl, alkoxymethyl, 2-alkoxyethyl, 2- (2-hydroxyethoxy) ethyl or - (alkylene) -SO3M radical, X and Y are identical or different and mean hydrogen, alkyl or alkoxy radicals or fluorine, chlorine or bromine,
where the alkyl and alkoxy radicals have 1-4 carbon atoms and M is hydrogen, an alkali metal, an alkaline earth metal or the ammonium group.
The process according to the invention is characterized in that condensation is carried out in any order: A) a p-aminobenzaldehyde of the formula (III)
EMI0002.0006
in which Hal denotes a halogen atom, b) an alkyl cyanoacetate and c) an aminoarvlsulfonic acid according to one of the formula (1Va-IVd): y
EMI0002.0007
and that the halogen atom Hal attached to the alkylene group is sulfonated in exchange for the sulfo group M03S-sulfonated.
The condensation of these reaction components can take place according to the following general schemes:
EMI0002.0010
The sulfonation reaction can take place at any time during the synthesis routes set out above. The sulfonation (conversion of haloalkyl to sulfonic alkyl) can thus be carried out on a connection of type AB or ABC.
Examples of suitable aldehydes of the formula (III) are u. a. the following compounds: p- [methyl (2-chloroethyl) amino] - benzaldehyde p- [butyl (2-chloroethyl) amino] - benzaldehyde p- [sec-butyl (2-bromoethyl) amino] - benzaldehyde p- [Benzyl (2-chloroethyl) amino] benzaldehyde p- [phenethyl (2-chloroethyl) amino] benzaldehyde p- [isobutyl (3-bromopropylamino] benzaldehyde p- [tert-butyl] (4-chlorobutyl )
-amino] - benzaldehyde p- [isopropyl (2-chloropropyl) -amino] - benzaldehyde p- [ethyl (3-bromobutyl) amino] - benzaldehyde p - [(2-hydroxyethyl) (2-chloroethyl) amino] - benzaldehyde p - [(2-chloroethyl) (2-chloroethyl) amino] benzaldehyde p - [(2-cyanoethyl) (2-chloroethyl) amino] benzaldehyde p - [(ethoxymethyl) (2-chloropropyl) amino ] - benzaldellyd p - [(2-Metfioxyäthyl) (2-Chloräthyl)
amino] benzaldehyde p - [(2- [2-hydroxyethoxy] ethyl) (2-chloroethyl) amino] benzaldehyde p- [propyl (2-chloroethyl) amino] benzaldehyde 4- [methyl- (3-chloropropyl ) -amino] -o-tolualdehyde 5-chloro-4- [ethyl (2-chloroethyl) -amino] -o-tolualdehyde 4- [methyl (2-chloroethyl) -amino] -o-anisaldehyde 3-butoxy-4- [methyl (2-chloroethyl) amino] benzaldehyde 2-bromo-4 [(2-bromoethyl) (4-bromobutyl)
-amino] -5-chlorobenzaldehyde 2,6-dichloro-4- [methyl (3-chloropropyl) amino [benzaldehyde 2-bromo-6-ethoxy-4- [ethyl (4-chlorobutyl) amino] benzaldehyde 4- [ Bis (2-chloroethyl) amino] o-tolualdehyde p- [ethyl (1-methyl-2-chloropropyl) amino] benzaldehyde 4- [bis (4-cworbutyl) amino] -2-fluoro-6-isobutylbenzaldehyde 4- [bis (2-chloropropyl) amino] -2,5-dimethylbenzaldehyde 4- [bis (2-chloroethyl) amino] -2,
5-dimethoxybenzaldehyde. The sulfonation which takes place as a displacement reaction can take place either a) on the condensation product of the aldehyde with the alkyl cyanoacetate (type AB) or b) on the haloalkyl intermediate compound of the dye (type ABC).
The selection of suitable solvents for the condensation reaction to produce the methine dye is not particularly critical. In the following examples, ethanol, isopropyl alcohol and N, N-dimethylacetamide are given. Alcoholic solvents are preferred because of their boiling point, their easy accessibility and low cost. The ether-alcohol solvents such as monomethyl (or ethyl) ethers of ethylene glycol or diethylene glycol can also be used.
Other suitable solvents include: a. N, N-dimethylformamide, N, N-diethylacetamide, dimethyl sulfoxide, pyridine and the like. Mixtures of these solvents with or without significant amounts of water, or water alone, can also be used.
Suitable catalysts which can be used for the process according to the invention are u. a. the following strong bases: morpholine, piperidine, sodium methylate, tetramethylammonium hydroxide, 20% aqueous KOH or NaOH and the like.
In the above formulas, M represents hydrogen, an alkali metal, an alkaline earth metal or ammonium. The sodium and calcium salts are preferred and are used in the examples. The production of the different salt forms, the isolation of the free acid (SO, H) form of the intermediate body or dye and the conversion of the same into the various salts are explained by the following alternative options: 1.
The four aminoarylsulfonic acid compounds I to IV (see Table I below) are used as free acids in the reaction with ethyl cyanoacetate in the presence of alkali, alkaline earth and / or an alkali metal alcoholate, as is explained in the examples. The alkali or alkaline earth salt represents the reactive form. Suitable alkali or alkaline earth compounds for this reaction are the following: hydroxides, carbonates or bicarbonates of lithium, sodium, calcium, magnesium, potassium or barium. Suitable alkali alcoholates are: sodium, lithium or potassium methylate, ethylate and the like.
The resulting alkali or alkaline earth salts of cyanoacetamido arylsulfonic acids can be condensed and sulfonated with various aldehydes by processing according to the methods described in the following examples, so that the corresponding alkali or alkaline earth salts of the finished methine dyes are obtained.
2. The sodium cyanoacetamido-arylsulfonic acid salts, which are also used as starting materials in the examples, can be treated with aqueous hydrogen chloride or aqueous sulfuric acid, filtered off and dried. The free acids obtained in this way are stirred with aqueous ammonium hydroxide and, after drying, give the ammonium salts of the cyanoacetamido-arylsulfonic acids.
3. The free acid form of the sulfamic acids can also be used in the process of the examples for the preparation of the finished dyes in the form of their free acids. If the finished dyes are to be isolated as organic base salts of the sulfonic acids, these dye salts are converted into the free, if desired, by treatment with dilute mineral acid, depending on the basic catalysts used or, because of the presence of the dialkylamines formed by partial hydrolysis of amide solvents and optionally present Acids converted. The dyes in the form of their free acids can be isolated by filtration and dried or obtained by evaporating the acidified solutions to dryness.
4. The methine dyes in the form of their free acids can be converted into the corresponding alkali, alkaline earth or ammonium salts by treating the free acids in aqueous solution with one of the above-mentioned alkaline compounds.
According to another method, the less soluble alkaline earth salts of the sulfo dyes and sulfo intermediate compounds are prepared by adding a water-soluble alkaline earth metal salt or its aqueous solution to an aqueous solution of the more soluble alkali or ammonium salts of the sulfo dyes and sulfo intermediate compounds. The various salts thus obtained can be isolated by drying and filtering or by salting out and filtering, depending on the solubility requirements. The new dyes produced by the inventive method are usually yellow. Compared to the known yellow dyes for paper, they have improved tinting power and clarity of color.
Furthermore, the dyes produced according to the invention enable increased production efficiency and in some cases an increased degree of utilization even with the strong dilutions used for the systems customary in paper production. The dyes prepared according to the invention are also compatible in comparison with numerous anionic dyes and additives used in paper manufacture and, when mixed with blue paper dyes, give strong and bright green shades.

In aqueous solution it shows an absorption maximum at 414 mu, in methanol solution at 394 mu.
Example 2 A) 170 parts of 4- [bis (2-chloroethyl) amino] -a α-cyano-cinnamic acid ethyl ester (Example 1 A) are suspended in a solution of 126 parts of sodium sulfite in 500 parts. The mixture is heated to 150 to 160 ° C. for 4 hours in an autoclave while stirring. The resulting solution is evaporated to dryness and in this way gives 4- [bis (2-sulfoethyl) amino] -a-cyanocinnamate as a mixture with sodium chloride which has formed during the reaction. The ester is separated from the salt and purified by the method described in Example 1 B).
B) A moving mixture of 471 parts of the ester thus obtained, 342 parts of 2- (p-aminophenyl) -6-methyl-7-benzothiazolesulfonic acid, sodium salt and 5000 parts of N, N-dimethylacetamide is refluxed for 2 hours. During this period, the ethanol formed as a by-product is fractionally distilled off. The reaction mixture present as a solution is slowly poured into 5000 parts of acetone with vigorous agitation. The precipitate is filtered off and dried to a yellow-orange powder which has the same structure as the dye prepared according to Example 6 (C). It shows an absorption maximum at 414 mu dissolved in water in methanol at 394 mu.

Example 3 A) 51 parts of the sodium salt of 6-amino-1-naphthol-3-sulfonic acid (I-acid) are in 95 parts N, N-dimethylacetamide to remove any water present Distinguish it heats up. 24 parts of ethyl cyanoacetate are added to the reaction mass and the mixture is then heated to a gentle boil for 2.5 hours. The ethanol escaping from the reaction mixture is collected in a fractionation column. Towards the end of the reaction time, a small amount of the solvent distills off. The mass is then cooled and enough ether is added for the phase separation.
The dark lower layer is separated and dissolved in 150 parts of ethanol. This solution is treated with enough ether for another phase separation. The lower phase is separated off and left to stand. After about 30 minutes, crystals form in the separated phase. Rapid crystallization of the entire mass is triggered by stirring. The product thus obtained is 6- (cyanoacetamido) -1-naphthol-3-sulfonic acid, sodium salt.
B) A moving mixture of 164 parts of the cyanoacetamido compound thus obtained, 148 parts of p- [bis (2-chloroethyl) amino] benzaldehyde (Example 1 A)), 10 parts of piperidine and 4000 parts of ethanol is heated to reflux temperature for 12 hours. The reaction mixture is cooled and filtered. The yellow precipitate is washed with acetone and dried. This product shows a spectral maximum at 418 μm in aqueous solution and at 403 μm in methanol solution.
C) 278 parts of the methinamido compound prepared according to part (B) of this example, 126 parts of what is serfreies sodium sulfite and 500 parts of water are heated to 190 ° C. for one hour under nitrogen gas with stirring in a closed autoclave. After the resulting solution has cooled to 70 ° C., it is stirred with 5 parts of carbon black or activated charcoal to decolorize, filtered off and the filtrate is evaporated to dryness. Dye containing about 15% by weight sodium chloride is obtained in excellent yield. The dye can be used as such for dyeing paper or can be purified by recrystallization from a pair of solvents such as N, N-dimethylacetamide-acetone. An aqueous solution of the dye has a strong absorption maximum at 418 μm, the methanol solution at 390 μm.
The dye has the following structure:

The mixture is whipped and agitated for 15 minutes, then made up to a total of 12,000 parts with water. The paper pulp is pressed out on a wire screen and freed from the water adhering to the surface in a known manner by suction. The resulting, no pulp containing water is called white water. The pressed paper pulp is dried by heating and it gives a sheet of paper which is colored with a bright green-yellow hue that fluoresces green in UV light.
The white water is checked in a spectrophotometer to find and measure any residual (not absorbed) dye that may be present in the solution. The substantivity of the dye on paper is roughly proportional to the amount of dye found in the white water. The amount of dye used can be changed between about 0.00l-1.0 parts and then results in light to deep colored products. The percentage by weight of raw paper in the original slurry can also be changed in the usual way within wide limits. Paper glue and aluminum sulfate can also be added if desired.
The proportion of these substances can expediently be about 0.53 or 1-4 parts. The substantivity values of dyes produced according to the invention were determined on the basis of the data obtained by spectral analysis according to the above information. The values are summarized in Table II. In this table, the percentage (weight) of the amount of dye retained in the paper pulp without the use of dye auxiliaries, such as paper glue and aluminum sulfate, is indicated. For comparison purposes, dyes with a similar structure are also given which have zero retention.
R, M and N-aryl have the same meaning in Table II as in Table 1. These symbols refer to the same general structure.
