Alkali Galvanic Element The present invention relates to an alkaline galvanic element.
There are generally galvanic zinc-manganese elements with alkaline electrolytes known, with a positive electrode provided with a current conductor and a coaxial, tubular negative electrode made of pasty zinc and provided with a tubular current conductor, the cavity of the tubular current conductor of the negative electrode serves as a gas cell, and the two electrodes are separated from each other by an ion-dissipating diaphragm.
The disadvantage of this element is the risk of a short circuit between the electrodes at their end faces, which can arise both from the splintering of particles of the positive electrode and from the material of the negative electrode flowing apart during manufacture of the element.
The aim of the present invention is to eliminate the above disadvantage.
To achieve this goal, the task is to isolate the electrodes from one another in such a way that a short circuit between them is excluded.
According to the invention, this object is achieved in that end plates made of electrically insulating material are provided on the two common end faces of the electrodes, each of which has either at least one annular rib or a bent edge, which along the entire circumference of the ion-dissipating diaphragm in the face concerned engages.
The invention is explained using an exemplary embodiment with reference to the accompanying drawing, which illustrates a cylindrical shape made from alkali element in section.
The galvanic alkali element shown is mounted in a metal housing 1, in the interior of which the positive electrode 2 made of manganese dioxide, carbonaceous materials and electrolyte is introduced. The metal housing 1 also serves as a current collector for the positive electrode 2.
The negative electrode 3 made of pasty zinc is pressed onto a tubular current collector 4 made of sheet metal bent in a spiral shape. It is arranged in the interior of the positive electrode 2 and separated from the same by an ion-conducting diaphragm 5 made of thickened electrolyte.
The lower housing part is hen with a bead verses, which serves as a support for the seal 6, and for the metal base 7. The hermetic tightness of the element is achieved by rolling the edge of the housing.
A projection of the base 7 extends into the interior of the current conductor 4, whereby a reliable electrical contact is ensured.
At the two common end faces of the Elek electrodes 2 and 3 are made of insulating material, for. B. made of poly ethylene end plates or discs 8, 9 is introduced.
The disks 8, 9 each have an annular rib or a bent edge 10 engaging the ion-conducting diaphragm 5 along the entire circumference of its end face. The disk 8 is attached to the housing 1 before the electrodes 2, 3 are manufactured, while the disk 9 after the completion of the diaphragm 5 and the negative electrode 3 is attached.
The annular rib or the bent edge 10 ensures a reliable separation of the electrodes 2 and 3 from one another and prevents contact between electrode material particles that get into the diaphragm.
