Apparatus comprising an ultraviolet ray germicidal tube
In UV germicidal tubes, used in particular in sterilization devices using ultraviolet radiation, it is essential that the energy of the radiations (UV) remain within acceptable limits, so that the sterilization is effective. For this, it is necessary that the tubes used are in good condition.
The radiation energy of a tube in good condition is within the limits indicated by the manufacturer, for example: 10 m W / cma (this value can be checked by a dosimeter), while the radiation energy for a tired tube drops to around 5m
W / cm2. From this moment, it can be said that the efficiency of the tube is greatly reduced and that it risks becoming inoperative in a sterilization device, for example.
However, there is no spontaneous indication as to whether the UV tube is in good condition or defective. Few of the people, responsible for maintaining the tubes, carry out repeated and frequent checks. The use of separate devices, such as dosimeters, makes the operation even more tedious.
These drawbacks inherent in traditional measuring means are avoided by the device described below, which constitutes a safe, efficient and economical means for checking the tubes. There is therefore no need to use a separate measuring device.
This device enables the efficiency of the tube to be checked and detects both its aging and operating anomalies due, for example, to the deposit of dust or other disturbing bodies, reducing germicidal radiation.
The present invention relates to an apparatus comprising a germicidal tube with ultraviolet rays characterized by a device for monitoring the radiation of the tube incorporated in the device comprising at least one photoelectric element, sensitive to the radiation of the tube, and controlled indicator means. by the photoelectric element.
The drawing represents, schematically and by way of example, an embodiment of the object of the invention.
Fig. 1 represents the block diagram of the device.
Fig. 2 shows the electrical diagram of this device.
The synoptic diagram shown in fig. 1 briefly indicates the various organs of this control system.
UV ray emission means are constituted, for example a tube 1 which can be a hot cathode tube, or a cold cathode tube, supplied by a source E.
The radiation 2 is picked up by a photoelectric cell 4 sensitive to a wavelength of R = 2537. Between the cell 4 and the tube 1 is interposed a removable shutter 3 allowing the temporary concealment of the cell, a transistorized amplifier 5, a multivibrator 6 and, ending the chain, an indicator 7.
When a check is to be carried out, the shutter 3 is removed, the radiation 2 emitted by the tube 1 is picked up by the photoelectric cell 4, the signal is amplified thanks to the transistorized amplifier 5, transmitted to the multivibrator 6 which actuates indicator 7.
Fig. 2 shows the circuit diagram of the device, in order to facilitate understanding of its operation.
The device firstly comprises a voltage source, U, a control button 16 forming part of a timer 8 allowing the engagement of a control circuit for a period of one to five minutes, a step-down transformer of voltage 9, an electromagnet 10 with a plunger core, a shutter 3, a rectifier bridge 11, two filtering capacitors 12, 13, a resistor 17, the photoelectric cell 4 picking up the radiation 2, a transistor 5, a relay 14 acting on a contact 15, the multivibrator 6, and the indicator 7 protected by a resistor 18.
When the user wants to check tube 1, he presses button 16 which starts timer 8, energizing transformer 9, and electromagnet 10, which acts on shutter 3, and removes the latter from the passage of the rays coming from the tube 1, because the photoelectric cell 4 must not remain in prolonged exposure in front of the light source, under risk of exhaustion. The transistor 5 is conductive when the limit threshold of UV energy is not reached, therefore if the tube 1 is not in good condition, the transistor 5 conducts, placing the relay 14 under voltage, the contact 15 is firm, the multivibrator 6 can operate and provide signals to the indicator 7 consisting of a neon lamp. The indicator 7, consisting of a neon lamp, gives intermittent light signals.
Note that the indicator could also be designed to give sound signals.
In another embodiment, the realization of this device could be simplified by eliminating the multivibrator 6 and the electric relay 15, and by replacing the latter with a signal lamp. It would also be possible to include in the amplifier an adjustment of the energy threshold beyond which the amplifier operates, this adjustment being able to be carried out by a potentiometer mounted as a rheostat.
