Self-development camera This invention relates to a self-development camera for the production of a copy of graphic information, consisting of a fixed frame which carries image projection means and electrographic image development means arranged at a distance therefrom, by means of which an image is applied to a photosensitive strip material and developed, in particular for the rapid production of visible, permanent photocopies.
This means that photographic prints in microfilm size from original documents or other information can be obtained on a recording sheet almost immediately. The record sheet can then be used in an information storage and playback system if the camera is part of such a system.
The photographic recording of information and the storage of photographic prints in place of original documents, e.g. B. letters, articles, engineering drawings or other photographs, has become a widespread and desirable practice. However, it is quite difficult to obtain an instant photograph of the original on a recording sheet which can be used in an information storage and reproduction system.
It is possible to quickly photograph documents and get a permanent image on a microfibre roll which can then be developed later and saved for future use, or the roll can later be cut into individual microfilm frames and attached to tab cards which there are several versions in the trade.
In addition, it is currently possible to obtain a tab card with a photocopy of the original affixed therein, but this method of photocopying an original has not yet been widely adopted by the industry because of the cost of card tab and sorting equipment An economical and effective information storage system is therefore available, the present invention contributing significantly to solving the problem.
The self-developing camera according to the invention is characterized in that a movable support part is provided, on which a storage device is attached within its circumference to store a supply of the strip material on which the graphic information is to be reproduced, and that a further adapted to the circumference of the support part Device is attached to the support part, which defines an outer, the strip material supporting peripheral surface over which move successive portions of the strip material when this is removed from the storage device, further characterized by means for aligning the strip material supporting peripheral surface on the image projection - medium,
so as to create the prerequisite for the application of the graphic information on the strip material, and by means of a device for moving the support part relative to the fixed frame and for moving the device adapted to the circumference from the image projection means to the image development means, so the prerequisite for the development of graphic information on the strip material.
The camera is z. B. particularly suitable for use with an information-bearing recording sheet or card. This recording sheet is preferably a transparent, resilient or rigidly resilient polymer sheet which can accommodate photographic prints in order to then be used as a transparency from which projected light images can be obtained for reproducing copies of these photographic prints.
A preferred type of this camera uses a recently developed image reproduction process which consists in exposing a photoconductive (photo-conductive), electrolytically developable copy sheet to produce a differentially conductive pattern thereon, after which a pattern of a vaporizable, image-forming substance is electrolytically applied generated on the exposed surface according to the differentially conductive pattern,
the exposed surface of the copy sheet is also arranged near a receiving surface and the copy sheet is heated so that a selective vapor transfer of the vaporizable, image-forming substance is effected on the receiving surface and the formation of a visible image on the receiving surface in accordance with the differentially conductive pattern.
This method is disclosed and described in greater detail in United States patent by Benjamin L. Shelly and Joseph W. Shepard No. 3,363,556, which is also owned by the assignee of the present invention.
Types of implementation of the self-development camera can be very compact.
Furthermore, a photographic print of an original document on a receiving sheet can be obtained from them in a short time, with a large degree of control of the sheet being possible.
The camera expediently has a housing, an opening in the housing over which a lens with a shutter lies, furthermore a disc which is rotatably mounted in the housing and carries a light-sensitive inter mediate film, a developing apparatus arranged around the circumference of the disc, an opening in the housing for receiving a take-up sheet, a device for carrying and trans porting such a receiving sheet and Vorrich lines for setting the operation of these elements to apply an image to the receiving sheet.
The subject of the invention is explained in more detail in the following description with reference to the accompanying drawings using an exemplary embodiment. In the drawings: Fig. 1 is a schematic perspective view of an information storage and playback system, Fig. 2 is a side view of the camera of the system with the side plate removed to show the internal parts, Fig. 3 is a vertical cross-section according to FIG Line 3-3 of FIG. 2, FIG. 4 shows a vertical cross section according to line 4-4 of FIG. 2,
Fig. 5 is a side view of the opposite sides of the camera with one side plate removed to show the internal parts, Fig. 6 is a detail view taken along line 6-6 of Fig. 2, Fig. 7 is a detail view of the recording sheet conveying mechanism, and Figs. 8, 9, 10 and 11 are diagrams showing the cycle of the camera, Fig. 12 is a schematic view of the electrical controller, and Fig. 13 is a plan view of a recording sheet used with the camera.
Fig. 1 shows an information storage and playback system. This system uses a card-like recording sheet 22 on which a number of photographic prints can be accommodated in a rectangular coordinate pattern (see Fig. 13) in order to receive a print, to be registered and which can be moved through the device, to take a print, to be registered, to be reissued and used as a transparency to make copies of the original.
In operation, and particularly in a photographic device or camera 23 of the type described herein, the card 22 is held in a bent or curved shape. The camera 23 can pick up the card 22 and move it to a selected predetermined position within the building, as determined by the operation of an electrical control unit 24. When it is inserted into the camera 23, a print of an original 26 is made thereon, which is shown in FIG. 13 and is provided with the reference numeral 25.
The card 22 can then be moved by the camera 23 into a storage magazine 27. This magazine 27 can store a variety of such cards 22 and is equipped with devices to selectively arrange the magazine with respect to the camera 23 for receiving a card.
In this information storage and playback system there is also a playback section of the system which contains a projector 28 for receiving selected cards from the magazine 27. The projector throws a light image onto a screen 29 so that the information contained on the card 22 can be displayed can read. When a physical copy of the information is desired, a mirror 31 is moved into the light path of the projected image and the light image is projected onto a copy paper 32 carried above the mirror 31. The copy paper 32 is stored on a supply roll 33 and carried between the supply roll 33 and a suitable drive roll 34.
The projection of the light image onto the paper 32 makes it differentially electrically conductive in the image areas in the embodiment shown. The light-struck area of paper is then automatically conveyed over a pair of rollers 35 and 36 which are immersed in an electrolyte, and in the presence of an electric potential, a material is deposited from the electrolyte on the light-struck image areas to produce a copy 37 of the Originals 26 to produce.
The camera 23 has a housing or a frame which is formed by a base plate 41, a rear wall 42, a front wall 43, a top wall or cover 44 and side walls 46 and 47. The housing defines an envelope which is divided in the longitudinal direction by a plate 48 which extends between the rear wall 42 and the front wall 43 substantially in the middle of the envelope. The plate or partition 48 is partially cut away at its upper edge but serves as a support for a number of elements of the camera.
An opening 51 is formed in the front wall 43 and has a suitable lens, a lens mount and a support structure 52 which is fastened in the opening and extends forward from the front panel. In the housing, a carrier 53 carries a rotary electromagnet 54, to which in turn a lamella 55 is attached. This lamella is of sufficient size to cover the opening 51 and it forms the closure.
A suitable support part in the form of a disk 57 is located in the housing and is rotatably attached to the partition wall 48. The disk 57 carries a strip of intermediate photosensitive material or film 58 in such a manner that one surface thereof can be placed in alignment with the optical path of the lens to receive an image thereon. This light image is then developed on the intermediate film with a vaporizable material or substance as described above and is then moved to a position near the card 22.
The developed image portion is brought into contact with a corresponding surface of the card 22 and, in the presence of heat, a physical transfer of the deposited substance takes place to produce an image on the card. The card 22 is advanced and carried in the housing by a device generally indicated at 60 after the card has been inserted into the housing. An opening 62 is formed in the side plate 46 to receive the card and, after a print 25 is applied to the card, the device 60 conveys it out through a similar opening 63 in the side plate 47.
3 best shows that the disc 57 has a central opening 65 and a collar 66 is attached thereto which fits within the opening. The collar 66 has a keyway for receiving a wedge 68 which is secured in an axis 69. The axle 69 is rotatably mounted in the partition 48 by a suitable bearing 71. The washer 57 and collar 66 are suitably secured on the axle 69 by a pair of locking nuts 73 which thread onto the end of the axle extending through the washer. Suitable spacers, such as washers 74, are provided between the partition 48 and the washer 57 in order to arrange the two parts accordingly.
The axle 69 has an enlarged flange at one end extending through the partition wall 48, and this flange is drivingly connected to a cam axle 78 which will be described later.
The disc 57 is rotated by a reversible DC motor 81 at a variable speed. The motor 81 is attached to the partition wall 48 and has a drive shaft 82 which extends through the partition wall and to which a toothed wheel 83 is attached. The gear 83 meshes with a reduction gear 84 on an axis 86. The axis 86 is rotatably mounted in the partition 48 and in a U-shaped support 89 which is secured to the partition 48, as best FIGS. 3 and 5 show. The axle 86 carries a pinion 87 which engages in a ring gear 88 which is fastened to the inner surface of the disk 57.
Electric power for the elements of the present device carried on the disc 57 is obtained by means of conventional slip rings, such as slip rings 91 on the surface of the partition wall 48 near the inner surface of the disc 57, and through a pair of insulated brush holders 92 and 93, each having a number of brushes and attached to the disc 57.
The free surface of the disc 57 carries a supply roll 96 which contains a supply of the intermediate film 58. The film 58 is fed from the supply roll 96 via an insulated guide roll 98 to the outer flat surface of a focal plane block 99 and then wound up again on a take-up roll 101 which is also carried on the disk 57.
The supply roll 96 can be fastened on an axle 102 and be drivably connected to it. This axis has a slightly enlarged hub portion 103 at the end near the disk 57 and is rotatably mounted with respect to the disk 57. One-way braking devices are seen for the axle 102 and consist of a flexible band 106 which is attached at one end by a pin 107 and around a substantial portion of the circumferential surface of the hub 103 to a point where its opposite End is attached to a rod <B> 108 </B>. The rod 108 is slidably attached to the disk 57 in a bracket 109.
By a spring 111 interposed between the bracket 109 and a nut 112 on the opposite end of the rod. 108 is arranged on, a tension is applied to the belt 106, the tension of the belt 106 and thus the braking force applied to the supply roll 96 being set with the nut 111.
The focal plane block 99 is attached to the disk 57 near the peripheral edge. This focal plane block 99 is trapezoidal in the film path and provides a smooth edge for guiding the film over its outermost surface. The block 99 has a radially extending rectangular opening through which a plate 114 can slide. The plate 114 has a heating element 113 for generating the heat which is used to transfer the image forming material from the intermediate film 58 to the card 22.
The plate 114 is attached to the outer end of a sliding block 115 which is guided by two axially spaced pins 116 and 117 which are attached to the focal plane block 99 and extend radially inward. The radial movement of the sliding block 115 and the plate 114 is achieved by a reversible direct current motor 118 which is fastened to the disk 57 in a suitable carrier 119. A thrust bearing 121 at one end of the motor is adjustable in a support block 122.
The drive shaft 123 of the motor 118 is fastened with the aid of a drive shoulder 124 to a ball screw 126 be which is drivingly connected via a cooperating sleeve 127 which is constructed centrally with respect to the block 115. The rotation of the motor 118 thereby moves the block 115 radially with respect to the peripheral edge of the disk 57 to move the plate 114 radially outward and into the focal plane block 99.
FIGS. 2 and 6 show that the guide roller 98 is fastened between the Scheike 57 and a support plate 129. The guide roller 98 is freely rotatably mounted on a spacer pin 130 and is preferably made of an insulating material or has an outer surface made of insulating material.
The support plate 129 is additionally carried at a distance from the disc 57 by pins 132, 141 and 153 ge. As FIG. 6 shows, the pin 132 carries a sleeve 133 which is provided with a pinion 134 which engages in a toothed rack 136 on the block 115. In addition, a one-way spring clutch 137 is attached to the pin 132, which is used to drive a roller 138 and a drive wheel 139 from the gear 134. When the block 115 and the plate 114 move radially inward, a driving force is transmitted through the rack 136 and the wheel 134 so that the roller 138 and the wheel 139 are driven through a certain angle.
The third spacer rod 141 is used to rotatably support a drive roller 142 which has a coating with high friction. A drive wheel 143 is rotatably connected to the roller 142 for this purpose, which engages in the drive wheel 139 in order to drive the roller 142 and the wheel 144 which drives a further wheel 146. The wheel 146 is rotatably fastened to a pin 148 together with a deeply knurled roller 147 BE. The pin 148 is carried by a pair of radially extending arms 149 and 150 which are attached to a sleeve 151. The sleeve 151 has a third radially extending arm 152 which is connected to one end of a tension spring 154.
The tension spring 154 is attached to the disk 56 by a pin 156 and serves to rotate the sleeve 151 about the spacer pin 153 so that the knurled roller 147 and the gear 146 are in a driving pressure connection with the roller 142 and / or be brought to the wheel 144. The knurled roller 147 has a very coarse surface and serves as electrical contact with the electrically conductive rear side of the film 58, in that the coating of the film is penetrated. Other means of making contact with the conductive pad can also be used.
The take-up reel 101 is driven and supported by an axle 158 which is rotatably attached to the disk 57 by suitable means and to which a drive roller 159 is attached near the disk 57. The roller 159 takes an endless coil spring drive belt 160, which also runs around the drive roller 138 on the spacer bar 132. The roller 159 has a much larger diameter than the roller 138 in order to drive the axle 158 strongly. Belt 160 is allowed to slip on rollers 159 and 138, but maintains a desired tension in the film between drive roller 142 and the take-up roller at all times.
Means for developing the exposed film portion carried on the surface of the focal plane block 99 and plate 114 are provided and circumferentially spaced from and axially offset from the edge of disk 57;
to align with the focal plane block 99. The first element of this developing device is a device for applying a meniscus of an electrolyte in contact with the exposed surface of the film 58 in the presence of an electrical potential and for washing the exposed surface,
by covering this surface with a thin film of water. The apparatus includes a swinging double container 162 which is rotatably supported at one end by a pair of transversely spaced parallel arms 163 extending from one end and receiving a pivot pin 164 therebetween. The pin 164 is carried between its ends in a bracket 166 which is attached to the partition wall 48 in the form of a bracket. An opening 167 is formed in the bracket 166 and loosely and slidably receives a bolt 168 therein.
At one end, the bolt 168 has an enlarged flat head 169 against which one end of a compression spring 170 rests. The other end of the spring rests on a shoulder 171 in opening 167. A nut 172 on the other end of bolt 168 prevents the bolt from passing through opening 167.
The compression spring 170 causes the container 162 to rotate upwards towards the disk 57, and the container 162 is covered with a generally smooth, upper, frictionless surface material, so that when it is against the disk 57 to the limit the upwardly directed oscillating movement, the magnitude of the frictional effect exerted on the disc is negligible.
A first tank 176 in container 162 contains an electrolyte and has a pair of aligned openings in its opposing transverse walls which accommodate suitable liquid-tight low friction bearings 177 and 178 (see FIG. 3). A shaft 179 rests in bearings 177 and 178 and it extends outwardly from bearing 177, with a disk 181 attached to the free end.
Between the transverse walls of the tank 176 and fixed for rotation with the shaft 179 is a metal roller 182 with a smooth surface, the axial length of which is a little less than the transverse dimension of the film 58 is. On the shaft 179, between the transverse walls of the tank 176, a driver roller 183 is also fastened, which can act on the outer circumferential surface of the focal plane block 99.
This driver roller 183 has a somewhat larger diameter than the roller 182 and accordingly determines the thickness of the electrolyte coating which contacts the surface of the exposed film 58.
There is an electrical connection to the roller 182 in order to use it as an electrode and to establish an electrical potential between the electrolyte and the conductive substrate of the film 58.
A second tank 186 in container 182 rotatably supports a shaft 187 in much the same manner as described for shaft 179, except that the extended end of shaft 187 supports a double disk 188 or disk in which two grooves receiving the belt are formed in the edge.
The double pulley 188 and shaft 187 drive a coating roller 189 and a carrier roller 191 (Fig. 4) which are at least partially immersed in a washing solution, usually in water in the tank 186. The washing solution is applied to the film 58, after this was coated with the electrolyte.
A belt 193 runs around the pulley 181 on the shaft 179 and in a groove around the double pulley 188. A second belt 194 lies in the second groove of the double pulley 188 and around the drive pulley 195, which is connected to the drive shaft 196 of a motor 97 is, which delivers a constant speed and is built on the base plate 41.
In a vertical position with respect to the housing, a film drying device is constructed which, in the embodiment shown, consists of a frame 201 which is formed by a pair of transversely spaced plates 202 and 203, which are separated from one another by suitable rods 204 and 206 and which is rotatably mounted with respect to the partition by means of a stub shaft 207.
An L = shaped carrier 208 is fastened to the plate 203 be. A bolt 209 suitably fastened to the rear wall 42 slides with one end through an opening in the foot of the L-shaped beam 208, and on it a compression spring 211 sits between the rear wall 42 and the foot of the beam 208, around the upper ends of the plates 202 and 203 towards the disk 57. A roller 213 is rotatably mounted on a shaft 214 and arranged between the plates 202 and 203 on the upper surface.
Aligned slots 216 in the upper ends of the plates 202 and 203 take the opposite ends of the shaft 214 on. A pair of pins 217 and 218 on the upper ends of plates 202 and 203 support two continuous coil springs 219 which also pass under the ends of shaft 214 and thereby urge roller 213 into an upper position with respect to plates 202 and 203. A second roller 222 is mounted between the plates 202 and 203 on a driven shaft 223.
An absorbent, fibrous belt 224 runs around rollers 213 and 222 and removes any free liquid from the developed surface of film 58 as pulley 57 rotates the section of film counterclockwise past the belt, as shown in FIG. The spring 211 and springs 219 hold the belt 224 in place and under tension for the best drying conditions. The shaft 223 is driven by a constant speed motor 225, which is also provided with a gear drive from the motor axis to the shaft 223.
The card transporting and arranging device 60 is fastened vertically above the disc 57 and extends axially thereto in order to convey the card 22 from the side plate 46 to the side plate 47 and across the upper curved peripheral portion of the disc 57. For the sake of simplicity, the card transport device 60 is primarily carried by the cover plate 44, and it consists of a support device in the form of a frame which is fastened to the cover plate. The frame includes a longitudinally extending rod 228 having a transversely extending arcuate lower surface portion 229.
Fixed frame members 231 and 232 are attached to the rod 228 and extend across it. Support rods 233 and 234 are resiliently supported above the frame parts 231 and 232. The resilient attachment of the rods 233 and 234 is done by connecting members 235, which consist of spring material and between each end of the rods 233 and 234 and formed on the frame parts 231 and 232 shoulders. A spar 236 (FIG. 5) connects the rods 233 and 234 and is used to actuate the piston of a safety switch 237 which is carried by the cover 44. The Stan gene 233 and 234 also carry a variety of card position stop means.
In the illustrated Ausfüh approximately four stop means 240, 241, 242 and 243 are provided, which are each practically identical and consist of a rod 244 which extends in the longitudinal direction between the rods 233 and 234 and at one end near the rod 234 has a rotary magnet 245, which causes a Dre hung of the rod 244 when energized to rotate a pair of radially extending stop parts 238 and 239 from a ge inclined position in a vertical stop position. A spring (not shown) in the rotary electromagnet 245 holds the stop parts in a normally inclined position.
An arcuate support and guide part 246 made of sheet metal is supported by the rod 228 and the transverse frame parts 231 and 232 ge. The guide member 246 extends transversely to the housing and axially with respect to the disc 57 and is coated on its lower surface with a low friction material which gives the bent sheet a low coefficient of friction so that the card 22 moves over it with little resistance can. The guide part 246 consists of a plurality of openings 247 through which the stop parts 238 and 239 of each stop device can extend so that the stop parts can optionally extend into the path of the card 22.
The curved surface 229 of the rod 228 is covered with a cushion 249 of elastomeric material to provide a resilient support for the card 22 in the image transfer surface, which has the same transverse dimension as the film 58 and whose curved size is equal to the length of a card 22 is.
The cards are moved over the underside of the guide part 246 by a suitable drive mechanism which engages the opposite straight edges of a curved card 22 when it is arranged in its curved shape. The drive device consists of a plurality of rollers or gears that share in two rows along the transverse 231 and 232 are arranged so that their axes form planes that are parallel to the axis of the disc 57 and generally radially to the curved surface of the guide member 246 extend.
The gears, together with the cross members 231, are suitably constructed for rotation on bolts 251 and consist of a number of large diameter gears 252 and smaller gears 254, each arranged alternately. The large gears 252 are provided with teeth on their outer most peripheral edge and also have circumferential grooves 253 in the peripheral edge of the teeth that form a channel receiving the cards. A high friction material resides in the bottom of the groove of each gear to engage the edge of card 22 and impart linear transverse motion to it. The small gears 254 arranged between the large gears 252 work together with the gears 252 and transmit the rotational movement between them.
A similar set of large gears 257 are carried along the cross frame member 232 and these gears are separated from one another by smaller gears 258. The grooves in the wheels 257 form a card-receiving channel which is generally opposite the channel formed by the grooves 253 in the wheels 252. One of the small gears 258 is connected to one of the small gears 254 by a flexible cable 259 which transmits the torque. A large worm wheel 261 is arranged axially of the gears 257 and for rotation with one of these gears. The worm wheel 261 is driven by a worm 262 on the drive shaft of a motor 263. The motor 263 is suitably attached to a bracket 264 with the worm gear 262 being disposed between parts of the bracket.
The excitation of the motor causes the gears 252 and 257 to rotate in a uniform manner, so that a card, which is received with its opposite edges in the channels defined by the grooves of the gears, is moved transversely with respect to the housing of the camera 23. When a card is initially inserted, it is moved along the guide part 246 until it hits the selected stop devices 240, 241, 242 and 243. When the leading edge of a card against the stop parts 238 and 239 abuts, the gears 252 and 257 continue the movement of the card and the stop parts 238 and 239 together with the stop part support rods 233 and 234 against the bias of the resilient links 235 to continue Switch 237 to close.
The switch 237 is preferably turned on in the control circuit to provide a signal when the card is in a position on the stop members 238 and 239 to allow the camera 23 to perform its automatic cycle.
The electromechanical control system for the camera 23 is of the type that when a photographic print 25 of an original is to be placed on a card 22, the operator first selects the coordinate position in which the print is to be placed on the card 22 . This choice is made with the help of certain buttons on the control panel 24 before. The row of four buttons on the control panel controls the card stops and the row of eight buttons controls the position in which the disc 57 will stop with respect to the pad 249 to transmit the image.
After pressing certain coordinate setting buttons and inserting a card 22 into the device 60, the operator presses the pressure release button or operates a switch 303 to operate the camera. From this point on, the camera automatically operates in a cycle to place the card, move the disk 57 to the exposure position, expose the intermediate film 58, develop the image thereon, and apply the image to the card 22.
The control system is regulated by a series of dogs 276, 278 and 279 which are attached to shaft 78 for rotation with disk 57 as described above. A U-beam 281, which is carried by the partition wall 248, carries the outer end of the shaft 78 and also provides the fastening device for rings 282 and 283 carrying switches and a switch mounting bracket 284.
The ring 282 carries eight disc position control switches 286, four on the upper outer surface of the ring for contact by the driver 177 and four on the lower inner surface of the ring for contact by the driver 276. The drivers or cams 276 and 277 each have a switch actuating mechanism. approach in the surface and are constructed in such a way that the cams alternately actuate a switch 286 on the ring 282.
The eight switches 286 operate in conjunction with eight positions of the disk 57 and are connected in a circuit to the coordinate buttons on the control panel 24. A selected coordinate button and switch 286 cause the disk 57 to rotate upon actuation Switch terminated by either cam 276 or cam 277 and then causes the motor to reverse in direction of rotation. The position and exact arrangement of the disc 57 with respect to the card holder is carefully determined by a mechanical stop rule.
As FIG. 8 shows, the quadrant of the disk 57, which lies on the lower left side of the disk, has eight notches 288 which correspond to the eight coordinate positions for the arrangement of a Photoabzu on the card 22. After one of the switches 286 has been closed, the drive motor 81 reverses the direction of rotation until a pawl 289 pressed by a spring engages in one of the notches 288 in the circumference of the disk 57. At this point, the motor 81 will stop until it is de-energized.
The pawl 289 is rotatably attached to a pin 291 in a bracket 292, which in turn is attached to the partition 48. A compression spring 293 pushes the pawl into continuous communication with the disc 57.
An additional notch 294 is formed in the disc 57 in the upper left quadrant (FIG. 2) and determines the position of the disc with respect to the lens and the lens mount 52 so that the focal plane block 99 and film 58 are precisely with respect to the lens align during exposure. A switch 296 controls the position of the disk 57 in the exposure position or when it moves into the exposure position, and this switch is carried on the switch ring 283 and actuated by a trigger on the cam 278.
The speed at which the disc 57 is rotated during development is changed, and it is switched from a relatively high speed to a lower speed by a switch 297 when the disc has rotated into a position in which it is turned the focal plane block is near the container 162, and a switch 198 causes the disk to increase its relative rotational speed again after the focal plane block 99 has passed the container 162. The switches 297 and 298 are also carried on the ring 283 along with the switch 296, and they are actuated by the trigger on the cam 278.
The switch carrier 284 carries a single switch 299 which is actuated by the driver 279. The switch 299 is in a circuit with the knurled roller 147 and with the electrolyte coating roller 182 and provides the electrical potential between the electrolyte and the conductive base on the film 58 in the time in which the disk 57 the focal plane block 99 and the Film 58 in the development area. Switch 299 is also connected to motor 197 to energize it and rotate rollers 182 and 189.
<I> Operation </I> Referring to Figures 8-12, the various steps during the operation of camera 23 will be described along with an explanation of the electrical components of the control system.
An on / off switch 301 (FIG. 12) must be turned over for operation. This turns on a power supply 300, which in turn energizes the motor 225 on the film drying device, a temperature controller 302 and the heater 113, a circuit through the switch 299 and a circuit to the actuation switch 303. Fig. 8 shows the camera in the stop position or the normal rest position.
In this position, the focal plane block 99 is arranged directly below and not in correspondence with the optical axis of the lens and the lens mount 52. The operator next selects the coordinate position in which the photographic print is to be applied to a card by pressing a coordinate push button of each row on the control panel 24. The original is then placed in the appropriate position and a card 22 is inserted into the transport mechanism 60.
The operator then presses the operating switch 303, which gives a momentary contact. This switch 303 energizes the circuitry for the card stop magnets 245 and the card transport motor 263. The card 22 is then conveyed by rollers or wheels 252 and 257 until it hits a set of the vertically arranged stop members 238 and 239. When the card is properly positioned by both stop members, switch 237 is closed.
This reduces the torque on the motor 263, the crossbars 286 are energized, and the automatic printing cycle begins by energizing a disk motor control mechanism 305. The disk motor control mechanism 305 energizes the disk motor 81, and this motor rotates the Disk clockwise from the position according to FIG. 8 to the position according to FIG. 9, the notch 294 being brought into contact with the pawl 289.
In this position, the film 58 drawn over the focal plane block 99 is ready for exposure. A delay network 306 of resistance and capacitance is in the circuit with the control mechanism 305 and actuates the control mechanism after a time delay which is sufficient for the notch 294 to engage the pawl and the motor 81 to stop, the motor to be de-energized and a closure timer 307 and the locking electromagnet 54 are excited.
The shutter timer 307 is set to the desired exposure time and then de-energizes the shutter magnet 54 and a pulse is sent back to the disk motor control mechanism 305. The motor controller 305 then energizes the disk motor 91 again to rotate the disk 57 counterclockwise at a relatively high speed in the direction of the developing device. When the focal plane block 99 on the disk 57 approaches the coating roller 182 in the electrolyte, the switch 297 is actuated by the driver 278 so that the disk 57 is slowed down.
In this position, the switch 299 is actuated in order to excite the motor 197 on the developing device and to produce an electrical potential between the roller 182 and the electrically conductive substrate of the film 58. The disk motor 81 continues to rotate the disk 57 at a reduced speed until the development step shown in FIG. 10 is completed and the switch 298 is actuated so that the motor controller 305 increases the rotational speed again. The disk 57 then rotates the developed film surface in the direction shown in FIG. 11.
When the disk is rotated, the film surface passes the drying belt 224 to remove the excess liquid. When the preselected coordinate position stop switch 286 on retainer ring 282 is actuated, disk drive motor 81 is de-energized by disk motor control mechanism 305 and the disk stops rotating. Then the motor 81 is energized again in the reverse direction.
At the same time, a delay network 311 from resistance and capacity is pulsed when the preselected coordinate stop switch 286 is actuated, and the network 311 de-energizes the motor 81 via the motor control mechanism 305 after the disk has been rotated again and the pawl 298 in the selected notch 288 engages, whereby the motor 81 is stopped. The delay network 311 of resistance and capacitance, which de-excites the motor 81, also excites the motor 118 which operates the disks.
As a result, the guide block 115 and the plate 114 move the developed film 58 radially outward from its position in correspondence with the focal plane block 99 to a position in which the exposed and developed film section lies against the card 22 which is supported by the pad 249 is supported. At this time, the heater 113 near the platen 114 causes vaporization and transfer of the deposited vaporizable image-forming substance to the card 22, forming a photographic print 25 thereon. When the motor 118 was actuated, another delay network 113 of resistance and capacitance, which is in a circuit relationship with the motor 118, was energized.
This Ver delay network 113 determines the time interval in which the plate holds the film 58 against the card surface. When the required delay time has expired, the network 313 reverses the direction of rotation of the motor 118 and energizes another delay network 314 of resistance and capacitance. The delay network 314 determines the length of time that the motor 118 will operate in returning the plate to its inner position and at the same time advances the film 58 to place an unexposed portion over the focal plane block 99. For this purpose, the toothed rod 136, the pinion 134 and the drive rollers 142 and 147 are actuated.
When the motor 118 has returned the plate 114, the disk motor control mechanism 305 is pulsed to re-energize the disk motor 81 and rotate the disk 57 counterclockwise until the focal plane block 99 reaches the position shown in FIG. at which time the switch 296 is actuated, which de-energizes the disk motor control mechanism 305 and thus the disk motor 81. The delay 314 also energizes the card transport motor 263 and de-energizes the stop magnets 245 so that the card 22 can be transported by the camera 23,
while the disc 57 returns to its normal rest position.
While an embodiment of the invention has been illustrated and described, it will be apparent that certain changes can be made without departing from the scope of the present invention. In addition, the electrical control system can be changed without departing from the scope of the present invention, which is indicated by the following claims.
