Welding agents, especially for submerged arc welding. The increasing automation in production makes it necessary to use welding processes that were previously only carried out by hand and e.g. B. using high quality Man telelectrodes could be carried out in an auto matic manner. In particular, when welding iron, iron alloys or iron-free alloys with submerged arc welding, difficulties often arise when special requirements are placed on the quality of the weld.
For example, it was previously not possible to use submerged arc welding for manufacturing purposes when a high notch impact strength at low temperatures (-40 C and below) was required, as is the case for example. B. for liq siggas container, armor and the like was required Lich. The construction of tanks and the processing of armor plates are based on a base material of high strength (e.g. 80 kg / mm2) and the weld seams must have high notch toughness values even at the low temperatures mentioned. So far, this could practically only be achieved using basic jacket electrodes.
Welding powders based on alkaline earth oxides (such as calcium oxide, magnesium oxide and barium oxide) and calcium fluoride are already known, the alkaline earth oxide content being about 10 to 50% and the calcium fluoride content about 20%. However, these welding powders always contain relatively high proportions of SiO2, e.g. B. 20% or more. Attempts to reduce the SiO2 content below about 20% inevitably led to a deterioration in the welding properties of the powder, eg. B. deterioration of the seam appearance, porosity of the seam, unfavorable melting behavior and the like.
It has now been found that a basic powder suitable for under-powder welding of material metals such as iron-nickel and alloys of these metals can be used to achieve high impact strengths of the weld seam at low temperatures (-40 C and less) SiO2 content is considerably below the value of at least 20% SiO2 previously considered necessary for the given purpose, without the welding properties of the powder suffering.
The disadvantage of a high, i.e. H. SiO2 content above 15% with regard to the strength of the weld seam consists in the fact that silicon is reduced from this SiO2 content into the weld metal during the welding process. This increase in silicon, which is always caused by the powder, can at best only be influenced to a very small extent by changing the welding conditions.
This is especially true when the weld metal contains large amounts of alloy components such as manganese, molybdenum, chromium, nickel or carbon, since in these cases the silicon content of the weld metal quickly exceeds the permissible limits. In the case of welding powder with an SiO2 content of 15 to 20% or more, it is therefore not possible to incorporate all alloying elements into the weld metal regardless of the silicon content of the weld metal. Furthermore, the silicate inclusions caused by the use of such powders influence a deterioration in the properties of the weld metal, in particular its notched impact strength.
From this it is readily apparent that the precise setting of the alloying elements, including the silicon, required for welding high-strength steel types cannot be achieved with powders which have a high SiO 2 content. It must also be taken into account here that certain additional materials (welding wire) for welding low-alloy steel grades themselves have such a high silicon content that no silicon burn-in may occur during welding.
The present invention enables a highly basic welding powder that overcomes the disadvantages of the known welding powder and allows the use of automatic welding processes, in particular submerged arc welding, even where high notch toughness values at low temperatures, such as in the manufacture of containers and armor, are required.
Taking into account the specified limit for SiO2, the invention enables a completely free choice of the weld metal composition with regard to the silicon content, a considerable reduction in the burn-up of alloy elements from the filler material, the promotion of the burn-up of sulfur and phosphorus from the weld metal and the elimination or reduction of silicate and / or oxide inclusions in the weld metal without the. The welding properties of the powder suffer.
The welding agent according to the invention, which is intended in particular for submerged arc welding for welding steels in the presence of a metallic deoxidizer and for producing weld seams with high impact strength up to temperatures of -40 C, is characterized in that it based on the non-metallic compounds of the welding agent, up to 30 wt.
% min least one of the oxides of aluminum, zirconium, titanium, iron, chromium or manganese and 8-4.0% by weight CaF2 and 30-80% by weight alkaline earth oxide and 1-10% by weight SiO2 and the proportion of alkaline earth oxide, ge measured in% by weight, at least four times greater than the proportion of the silicon oxide content.
The submerged arc welding with the welding agent according to the invention in powder form takes place in the presence of a metallic deoxidizer, which can either be contained in the welding agent itself as a metallic component (e.g. about 4%) and / or come from the additional material. The usual metals or metal alloys such as ferro alloys of silicon and manganese and aluminum, titanium, zirconium and the like come into consideration as deoxidation agents. As a rule, the weld metal itself should be settled, i.e. H. contain at least about 0.1% silicon.
The welding agent according to the invention is generally suitable for the slag treatment of molten metal ge and can, for. B. in addition to submerged arc welding, they can also be used for electroslag welding.
The agent according to the invention can be a molten, sintered or agglomerated material. Preferably, it is Herge by agglomeration, especially if it has a metallic portion, e.g. B. deoxidizer should contain.
A welding means according to the invention in the form of agglomerated welding powder for the submerged welding can, for. B. be prepared as follows: A mixture of calcined magnesite, technical manganese oxide, fluorspar, clay and Desoxydationsmit tel (equal parts ferrosilicon and ferromanganese) is agglomerated with the addition of water glass to a granular mass, which after sieving at a temperature of 400 100 C is annealed.
