Fig. 4A einen Teil des Schrittschaltwerkes nach Fig. 4, Fig. 5 eine Ansicht der Entwicklungsvorrichtung.
Method for processing selectable areas on films of a microfilm archive The invention relates to a method for processing selectable areas on films of a microfilm archive.
It is characterized in that undeveloped and developed film areas can be present on the same film, which is selected from a large number of accessible films according to the film area to be processed and desired by applying electrical signals, both the selection of the film and the Feeding the film area to be processed into the working position as well as controlling the exposure and the development process or copying of the selected, developed film area.
The method described here offers the extremely desirable property that any image representation can be included and processed in an automated microfilm archive and the information content of the stored films can be continuously supplemented and brought up to date.
The invention is explained in more detail below using an exemplary embodiment from with the aid of the drawings listed. 1 shows an embodiment of an automated microfihn archive in a schematic representation, FIG. 2 shows the representation of the optical device, FIG. 3 shows the embodiment of the small printing device described, FIG. 4 the stepping mechanism for adjusting the object in the small printing device,
FIG. 4A shows a part of the stepping mechanism according to FIG. 4, FIG. 5 shows a view of the developing device. A method for an automatic micro film archive is described, in which information is stored in visible form, with appropriate reduction in certain, optionally developable areas of micro films.
The access for reading out or supplementing a micro image takes place under the control of a printing unit and microfilm selection control unit. The information contained in the microfilm is supplemented character by character and line by line on the microfilm with the help of a small printer, also under the control of the printing unit and microfilm selection control unit.
In FIG. 1, a data input device 1 is connected via line 2 to a computer and to a printing unit and microfilm selection control unit 3. The computer 3a is assigned to the printing unit and film selection control unit 3b. The printing unit and microfilm selection control unit 3b is connected to the microfilm selection device 5 via the line 4 and to the document transfer and small printing device 8 via the line 6.
In addition, the control unit 3b is connected via the line 15 to a film development control device 16, which in turn is connected to the development unit 17. A lens system 9 lies in the optical axis 10, which extends from the document transmission and small print device 8, in order to image its optical output on a microfilm strip 11.
A viewing and copying device 12 and a lens 13 are located in the extension of the optical axis 10, so that the visual information contained in the film strip 11 can be mapped with the aid of the device 12 in a corresponding size.
A specially designed film memory 14 works together with the microfilm selection unit 5 that any film strip 11 contained therein can optionally be removed under the control of the printing unit and microfilm selection control unit 3b. The mode of operation and control of the microfilm selection unit 5 for selective access to a film strip 11 does not fall within the scope of the invention, since any arbitrary access mechanism can be used to select the desired film strip and bring it into the optical axis 10 with the desired area .
Likewise, any data input device 1 can be used, such as card reader, keyboard, tape reader, etc. In addition, the computer and the printing unit and microfilm selection control unit 3 is not described in detail, since the structure does not fall within the scope of the invention. The only task of the printing unit and microfilm selection control unit is to control the selection of the desired microfilm strip and the area of this strip to be processed as well as the document transfer and small printing device 8.
As will be made clearer from the following description, many different types of devices can be used to perform these control functions.
1 is only intended to show that in the microfilm archive described here, neither a computer 3a nor an input device 1 are required, but that instead the printing unit and microfilm selection control unit 3b ent neither input signals from an external device. such as. a keyboard, a card or tape reader, or from an associated computer system or from both.
In the operating state, documents 18, such as e.g. Account cards which have to be supplemented or checked fairly frequently are entered into the documentation system via the document transmission unit 8a. The content of the documents is then photographically transferred to a selected area of a selected film strip 11 in a greatly reduced size with the aid of the document transfer unit 8a and the lens system 9,
as will be explained further below in connection with FIG. The exposed part of the film strip 11 is then developed with the aid of a small developing device 17 under the control of a special control unit 16 for developing the image.
The film strips 11 contained in the film memory 14 can be optionally exposed and developed, i.e. discrete areas of the film strip can optionally be exposed and developed without destroying the light sensitivity of adjacent film parts. There are different types of film that can be viewed as optionally developable in this sense.
An example of this is a film with a layer in which ultraviolet-sensitive diazo is embedded in a polymer emulsion. When exposed to ultraviolet radiation, the diazo decomposes and the released nitrogen collects at nucleation centers. The development takes place through the action of heat, which can be limited to the exposed discrete areas.
The emulsion softens at a temperature of - 115 C, so that the nitrogen can expand and form bubbles that have a diameter of about 1 U. After the end of the exposure to heat, the bubble structure solidifies in the emulsion and forms a permanent image. These bubbles remain as cavities even when the gas slowly diffuses to the surface. The contrast resulting from the projection of the image formed in this way is based on the scattering of the light by the bubble structure and not on light absorption as in the case of silver halogen film.
Another example of a film with optionally developable areas is diazo film. By the action of ammonia gas on an exposed area of the film, only the area of the film in contact with the ammonia gas is developed. Therefore the unexposed and undeveloped part of the film is available for later exposure. The developing device 17, which is suitable for use both in the diazo film and in the film with a layer in which the diazo is embedded in a polymer emulsion, is explained below.
If the contents of the documents 18 located in the film memory 14 are to be supplemented; If the film storage address is either entered via the data input unit 1 or transmitted from the computer system 3a to the print and microfilm selection control unit 3b, which causes the microfilm selection unit 5, the corresponding film strips with the selected part of the document content in the beam path with the optical axis 10 bring to.
Then, print control signals from the print and microfilm control unit 3b are transmitted to the small printer via the line 6 to effect the small printing operation on the filmstrip 11. The data added in this way then appear after the development process with the aid of the development device 17. Document content brought into the optical axis 10 can be viewed or reproduced at any time by the viewing and copying device 12.
Fig. 2 shows a schematic representation of the optical device's rule with the beam path for document content transmission. The original document 18 is placed face down and exposed to light from a projection lamp 19 controlled by the printing and microfilm selection control unit 3b. The light reflected from the document 18 travels along the path 20, is reflected at a mirror 21 and passed through the lens 22. The emerging from the lens 22 light is thrown from the mirror 23 down on a rotatable photoconductive disk 24 ge.
The disc 24, which is at an angle of about 30 to the horizontal, has a bead 25 on its edge, which prevents the escape of the xerographic Ent winder 26. The photoconductive plate is so rotatably mounted and is rotated device 27 in the direction of arrow 28 by a Antriebvorrich. An electrostatic charger 29 is attached to the plate 24 above the photoconductive.
The image of the upper part 30 of the photoconductive plate 24 is thrown from the mirrors 44 and 31 through the lens 32 onto the mirror 33 and from there onto the film strip 11. The film strip 11 is also located above the microscope objective 34 in the beam path of the optical device of the small printer 8b, the mode of operation of which will be described in more detail below.
Ultraviolet light from a light source 36, which is selectively excited by the print and microfilm selection control unit 3b, passes through the lens 37 onto the mirror 38 and is thrown through the lens 39. The light emerging from the opposite side of the ultraviolet source 36 passes through a collecting lens 40, is thrown from the mirrors 41, 42, 43 through a further collecting lens 45 and from the mirror 44 onto the upper part 30 of the photoconductive disk 24.
As already explained above, diazo film processes or films with light-sensitive layers that contain diazo embedded in the polymer emulsion are ideally suited for use in automatic documentation devices for visual presentations, since dry development processes can be used here.
In both cases, however, the photosensitivity is primarily in the ultraviolet range. However, paper is a poor reflector of ultraviolet light and therefore, as shown in Fig. 2, an intermediate transfer station which reflects ultraviolet light well is provided. A known xerographic process is embedded in this intermediate transfer station.
The photoconductive disk 24, which reflects ultraviolet radiation well, is electrostatically charged by the electrostatic charger 29 under control of the printing and microfilm selection control unit 3b to a uniform potential when no exposure takes place, because in this case a photoconductive surface acts as an insulator. When a document 18 is imaged on the photoconductive disk 24, a latent electrostatic image 18a is formed on the corresponding area of the disk 24. The latent image 18a is developed in a manner known per se by sprinkling with xerographic developer 26. As is known, this developer consists of granular material as a carrier and finely ground powder as a tinting agent.
When the two components are mixed together, electrostatic charges arise due to the triboelectric effect. As the xerographic developer 26 is sprinkled on the plate, the tinting agent is attracted to the latent image 18a so that it is developed.
The photoconductive disk 24 may e.g. are divided into five sections from by the disk drive 27 is operated under control of the print and microfilm selection control unit 3b corresponding step-by-step, then each section can be used successively as an image area. In order to create an image on the disk 24, an operation is initiated in that an approximately 72-year-round clean area with simultaneous electrostatic charging is rotated under the electrostatic charger 29 and brought into the input position when the disk 24 is further rotated by approximately 60 to be held there for exposure.
In the input position, this sensitized area of the disc 24 is illuminated by the light reflected from the original document 18 for about # / 4 seconds. Then the disk rotates approximately 270 to the dispensing position. During this rotation, the xerographic developer 26 scattered in the process develops the image on the disk.
When a toned image 18b appears at the output station, the light from the right-hand side of the ultraviolet lamp 36 is passed through the first converging lens 40 and directed onto the second converging lens 45 via the mirrors 41, 42, 43. This is located directly in front of the photoconductive disk 24. After passing through the second converging lens 45, the light is deflected by the mirror 44 onto the disk 24 with an incident angle of about 10. There the light is reflected by the tinted image on the pane 24 and passes via the mirrors 44 and 31 and to the objective 32. The light emerging from the objective 32 is guided onto the film 11 with the aid of the mirror 33.
The image of the document on the ultraviolet-sensitive film is thus obtained by exposure with the aid of the ultraviolet-reflecting surface of the photoconductive pane 24.
In order to keep a uniform image on the film 11, the image on the photoconductive disk 24 must be uniformly illuminated. In addition, it is important that all of the light incident on the photoconductive plate penetrates into the opening of the objective lenses so that the maximum working speed possible with the optical arrangement can also be used. Because of these two considerations, the converging lenses 40 and 45 are arranged such that the first lens 40 produces an effective image of the arc of the lamp 36. The second converging lens 45 is located near the disk 24 and focuses the light arc.
The second converging lens 45 is positioned so that the incident light comes from every point in the arc, and in addition, the photoconductive disk 24 is so close to the converging lens 45 that it is illuminated from every point in the arc.
After exposure of an image or after its transfer to the film 11 as a result of the reflection of the ultraviolet light on the surface of the disc 24, the only force that holds the tinting agent 20 in a corresponding distribution on the disc 24 is the adhesive force. It is thus possible to delete the image by simply sprinkling it with xerographic developer 26. This erase process is less effective than the development process and therefore it may take two or three passes to complete. This can be achieved with the help of five image areas on the pane, each of which then has to go through four erasure processes before it can be reused.
Fig. 3 shows a small printer which is used in the present system to perform small printing operations under the control of the printing and microfilm selection control unit 3b. A drawing mask 46 is attached in a triangular support 47 which is rotatably attached at points A and B to two identical but mirror-inverted joint systems 55 and 56. The articulation systems 55 and 56 who are operated either by three solenoids.
The left joint system 55 is actuated by the solenoids 57, 58 and 59 and the right by the similar solenoids 57 ', 58' and 59 '. By optionally exciting these solenoids, the respectively assigned joint system or both are actuated in such a way that the triangular support 47 is pivoted around the pivot points A and / or B in corresponding steps. A seventh solenoid 60 controls the actuation of an optical shutter 49. When the solenoid 60 is actuated, the shaft 53 rotates an arm 51 in the fastening point 54 about its fixed pivot point 52.
The solenoids can optionally be excited by electrical pulses from the print and microfilm selection control unit 3b.
As can be seen from the drawing, each of the joint systems 55 and 56 can optionally move the associated mask wearer pivot point A or B from a central or non-actuated position (FIG. 3) either up or down by 1, 2 or 3 steps, so that a total of seven different step positions for each mask wearer pivot point A and B is possible.
The optical axis 48 of the ultraviolet light beam is normally directed to a central character of the mask 46 when it is at rest. By now the mask carrier 47 about each of the fulcrum points A and B successively in each case over the ben step positions, two sets of arcs are described on the mask 46 by the point of impact of the optical axis 48. In each intersection point of the two interpenetrating arcs flock a different character is provided. Since each family of curves consists of seven arcs, there are 49 points of intersection and thus 49 available character positions.
The left mask wearer pivot point A is attached to one end of a bracket 61, which in turn is rotatably arranged at its end on a stationary frame plate 62 at point C so that the left mask wearer pivot point A can describe an arc 63. The effective length of the arm 61 and thus the radius of the circular arc 63 is equal to the distance between the axes of the two mask carrier pivot points A and B.
If the character mask 46 has now been set by optional excitation of the joint system solenoids so that a specific character is brought into the optical axis 48, then the shutter 49 is opened so that the light from the ultraviolet jellyfish 36 (FIG. 2) through the Opening 50 on the filmstrip 11 can fall. After this process, the shutter 49 is closed again, then by a relative movement between the film strip 11 and the optical axis 48, a laterally adjacent but unexposed area on the film is brought into the optical axis 48 and exposed.
The process is repeated until a desired line of characters is exposed on the film strip.
In Fig. 4, a stepping arrangement for an ob jective movement is geigt, which is used in connection with a small printer 8b. The light passing through the character lying in the optical axis 48 is focused on the film strip 11 by the microscope objective 34.
The position of the focal point on the Fälmstreifen 11 is changed according to the shift of the lens 34 Ver. By the objective 34 parallel to the film plane and perpendicular to the longitudinal extension of the filius is gradually shifted, where one step corresponds to a character size, a line on the film can be filled by successive exposure direction of characters.
The displacement of the lens 34 is related to the operation of the solenoid 60 in such a way that the shutter 49 in the character setting device is closed when the object moves. The lens carrier 64 holds the lens with its image plane 34 parallel to the film and made light its horizontal displacement. A spindle 65, in cooperation with the spindle nut 66, converts the rotary movement into a horizontal displacement. The spindle nut 66 is fastened to the lens mount 64.
The rotation of the spindle 65 is controlled by two devices, namely the indexing mechanism 67 and the return mechanism 68.
The drum 70 of the stepping mechanism 67 shown in FIGS. 4 and 4A is biased to rotate in the direction of the arrow 71 by a torsion spring, not shown here. Evenly distributed around the circumference of the drum 70 are locking pawls 69 that strike against a locking bolt 74 in the normal position. The locking catches 69 are resiliently attached in such a way that they can be pressed down against the force of a spring 73 in the direction of the drum axis.
The possibility of movement of the blocking remnants 69 is limited by a slot in which a ring 72 concentric with the drum 70 engages. By pressing down a rests 69, this is disengaged from the locking bolt 74, so that the drum 70 moves on until the next rests 69 stop.
The locking remnants 69 are pressed down by the action of an excited solenoid 75 by a leaf spring 76 attached to the armature of the solenoid, which is guided through a slot in the locking bar 74, with its free end 5 presses down the corresponding locking remnants 69, so that the locking residue 69 comes out of engagement with the locking bolt 74.
As the indexing mechanism 67 (Fig. 4) rotates, a steel band 77 is wound around the spindle shaft 65a. To reset the stepping mechanism 67, the steel belt 77 rotates the shaft 65a through the pulling action of the energized reset solenoid 78, so that the torsion spring is tensioned again to rotate the drum 70. As a result, the lens carrier 64 is simultaneously returned to the starting position.
After the reset solenoid has been switched off, the steel strip 77 is then also unwound from the shaft 65a. With appropriate excitation of the step solenoid 75 so the microscope lens 34 moves step by step across the filmstrip 11 in such a way that a line of characters corresponding to the binary inputs to the small printer 8b can be printed on it.
The developing device shown in FIG. 5 for the dry development of ordinary diazo films or films in which diazos are contained in polymer emulsion consists of a heating plate 79, the surface of which on the front side 80 is designed so that it comes into contact with the film strip 11 can be brought.
The front 80 of the heating plate 79 is bordered by an insulation strip 90 which prevents heating of the adjacent, unexposed film areas. The heating plate is of a known type and uses a thermostat or other suitable control device to maintain a uniform temperature at the front 80. On the other side of the film 11 there is an ammonia chamber 81.
In the lateral boundary walls of this chamber there is a groove 82 which both surrounds the area of the film to be developed and is connected to a suction line so that if ammonia gas is required for the development process, any ammonia gas escaping between the chamber wall and the film enters this groove 82 is drawn in and carried away.
The actual development chamber 83, together with the emulsion side 11a of the film 11, forms a closed space for the ammonia development of diazo films. In the chamber 81 channels 84, 85, 86 are allowed, which are used to supply compressed air and ammonia gas and for evacuation via lines connected accordingly. Through each one. Solenoid operated valves 87, 88 and 89 allow the gas supply or evacuation to be regulated.
The development of a film in which diazo is contained in a polymer emulsion is a relatively simple process, since in this case only the heating part of the developing device 17 needs to be used. The corresponding film area 11 is merely brought into contact with the front side 80 of the heating plate 79 and heated accordingly. The developing device is more conveniently constructed so that the film with the area to be developed is brought into the correct position relative to the front side 80 of the heating plate 79 before it is brought into contact therewith.
If a diazo film is to be developed in which ammonia gas is required for the development process, then the film is likewise first brought into its correct position with respect to the development chamber 83. The heating plate 79 and the ammonia chamber 81 are then pressed against the film so that the developing chamber 83 can form a closed space. First of all, all solenoid valves are closed. When the solenoid valve 88 is now operated, ammonia gas flows into the developing chamber 83.
After the development process has ended, the solenoid valve 88 is closed and the solenoid valve 87 is opened so that air can enter the developing chamber 83. Then the Soleno.idventil 89 is opened and the development chamber 83 evacuated to draw out the ammonia gas contained therein. The size of the front side 80 of the heating plate 79 and of the developing chamber 83 naturally determines the size of the discrete area of film that can be developed in one step.
The plate side 80 and the chamber 83 can be large enough to develop a full page document, or they can be the size sufficient to develop only one line of a document, half a line, one word, and so on. The size of the developing device therefore depends on the respective application:
