Tetrahydronaphthalin bestimmt. Die Resultate sind in Tabelle 1 angegeben.

Process for the copolymerization of two or more olefins Process for the copolymerization of olefins such as propylene and ethylene at relatively low temperatures and in the presence of one. Catalyst composed of a halogen compound of a transition metal of group IVa, Va or VIa of the Periodic Table of the Elements, which is soluble in hydrocarbons, and an alkyl metal compound of a metal of II. Or III. Group are known.
In the production of copolymers according to this process, products with a very high paint weight (greater than 10, determined at 135 ° C. in tetrahydronaphthalene) are generally obtained. With such a high painting weight, however, processing a copolymer becomes difficult.
It has already been proposed to regulate the molecular weight of the copolymers by carrying out the copolymerization in the presence of hydrogen. However, this method is not entirely free from deficiencies; For example, it is difficult to control the precise amounts of hydrogen present during the copolymerization and thus to regulate the paint weight of the copolymer, since the paint weight depends on the amount of hydrogen present during the copolymerization.
It is also known that the paint weight of the copolymers can be regulated by carrying out the copolymerization in the presence of an organometallic compound of a metal of the 1st, 2nd or IIIrd. Group of the Periodic Table with the exception of aluminum and beryllium, which lead to a normal catalyst such. B. a mixture of vanadium tetrachloride and an aluminum alkyl is added.
Surprisingly, a process for the copolymerization of two or more olefins has now been found, which process is characterized in that it is carried out in the presence of a catalyst which is produced by combining an organometallic compound of a metal of I., II. or III. Group of the Periodic Table of the Elements with the exception of aluminum and beryllium with a halogen compound of a transition metal from Group IVa, Va or VIa of the Periodic Table of the Elements in the ratio of the organometallic compound to the transition metal halide of 1 to 10.
The molecular weight of the copolymer can advantageously be controlled in such a way that the increase in the viscosity or the molecular weight of the copolymer is reduced by increasing the ratio of the organometallic compound to the halogen compound of the transition metal.
Ethylene, propylene and butenyl are preferably used as olefins. Vanadium tetrachloride is preferred as the halogen compound of the transition metals, while the alkyl derivatives of zinc, cadmium or mercury are preferably used as the organometallic compound.
If one works within the molar ratio of 1 to 10, ethylene-propylene copolymers with an intrinsic viscosity of 11-1.5 are obtained.
The yields in g polymer / g transition metal halide are highest when a ratio of 3-4 is used. If the ethylene-propylene copolymers obtained in this way are subjected to an infrared analysis, they show a propylene content of 50 mol%.
The following examples are intended to explain the present invention in more detail.
Example 1 The polymerization is carried out at -10 ° C. in a 7.5-1 autoclave which is equipped with a mechanical stirrer and an external cooling jacket.
6.5 1 of liquid propylene are introduced and then at -10 C up to. an absolute pressure of 5 atm. saturated with ethylene, a ratio of propylene-ethylene of 97: 3 being set in the liquid phase and a copolymer with a content of 50 mol% propylene is obtained. A hydrocarbon solution of vanadium tetra chloride and that of zinc diethyl are then added in small portions to the Men specified in Table 1.
The pressure is kept constant during each attempt by a continuous supply of ethylene.
After about 40 minutes the product is removed and its intrinsic viscosity is determined at 135 ° C. in tetrahydronaphthalene. The results are given in Table 1.

The determination of the plasticity of the copolymer, carried out in a Mooney plastometer in accordance with ASTM D 927-57 T, gave the following result: 29 -ML 1 + (100 0 C).

First 6.5 l of 1-butene were introduced and then at -10 C up to an absolute pressure of 3.3 atm. saturated with ethylene. Under these conditions the molar composition of the liquid phase butene-1: ethylene is 90:10.
Heptane solutions of vanadium tetra chloride and of diethyl zinc were then added in small proportions in the amounts given in Table 2.
The pressure is kept constant during the. Experiment by continuous addition of ethylene.
