(où R ,est H dans le cas de l'amylose et environ 96 % de R ;
La canonisation. de l'amidon à la dialdéhyde, cependant, présente plusieurs problèmes non résolus en ce qui concerne lie procédé de fabrication, et lie;
A., Italie).
Grâce à l'invention, il est possible d'augmenter la rétention ide l'amidon à la dialdéhyde dans le papier;
(4) Addition à 1.a pulpe.

Method for Improving Tenacity of Paper The present invention relates to a method for improving the tenacity or strength of paper.
The paper treated according to the process of the invention has excellent properties owing to the improvement in its tenacity and its printability, such properties.
never having been achieved until now by using only a particular raw material.
As is known, the agents: intended to increase the strength of the wet paper generally used are subdivided into. two types:
, namely agents of the heat-curable resin type such as melamin-formalize and urea-fornaline, and agents of the type using the properties characteristic of natural higher polymers such as starch with daldehyde. As shown in the following formulas,
dialdehyde starch is different from other oxidized starches in that the bond between positions 2 and 3 of the starch glucose unit is split and two high aldehyde groups are maintained. Therefore, it is not only responsive, but.
it also has the properties characteristic of natural superior polymers, and as a paper additive it has advantages which could not previously be achieved with thermosetting resins.
EMI0001.0075
(where R, is H in the case of amylose and about 96% R;
is H and the remainder is formed by the. other radiocals in the case of amylopeotine). By employing the dialdehyde starch, it is relatively easy to control the viscosity of its dispersion, and hence allows the continuous addition of the dispersion to the paper.
In addition, the paper treated with the dialdehyde starch exhibits increased tensile strength to a great extent, especially in the wet state, good folding strength,
good oil resistance and good surface resistance. The characteristics of dialdehyde starch:
Which are particularly different from other paper additives is that heat treatment after application is not necessary and waste recovery is easy.
The dialdehyde starch, which already has such excellent properties, has been further improved further, for example by cationizing the dialdehyde starch and simultaneously using it with other paper additives.
Canonization. starch to dialdehyde, however, presents several unresolved problems with respect to the manufacturing process, and binds;
Cost The preparation of a dispersing agent by admixing dialdehyde starch with a thermosetting resin also poses a problem with respect to long term stability or stability in storage.
The simultaneous use of these individual additives does not offer any special advantageous effect.
The licensee carried out research. on the use of dialdehyde starch with other natural higher polymers and found that by using one or more substances selected from the group formed by polysaccharides such as galactan,
mannan, galactomannan, mainly composed of galac tose and / or mannose as a constituent unit, the salts, esters or ethers thereof and additives for paper containing as main compounds said polysaccharides with starch at the dialdehyde,
synergistic effects on improving the strength and printability of the paper can be obtained which exceed the expected effect of each component.
Gums which contain said polysaccharides as a main component, for example locust bean gum, Cyamopsis psoralioides gum, Damascus plum gum, can also be employed in this invention.
Among the derivatives of said polysaccharides, there may be mentioned the alkali salts, the alkylsiters and the alkyl ethers.
As paper additives which mainly contain said polysaccharides, there can be further used, for example, Meyproid, Emco gum (registered trademark, of Meypro, Ltd., Switzerland),
Cesalpina guai, Daicol gum, Dealka gunn (registered trademark of Ces' alpinia S .: p. A., Italy).
In this description, said polysaccharides, their derivatives and paper additives are called galactomannans. to simplify.
Thanks to the invention, it is possible to increase the retention of the dialdehyde starch in the paper;
it is also possible to increase the effective limit of the addition of starch to the dialdehyde. In addition, in comparison with individual use, simultaneous use of two agents increases the.
strength, especially wet tensile strength, bending strength, oil resistance and sizing effect. If a filler is used, the method according to the invention makes it possible to increase its retention. Although wet tensile strength does not increase with the addition of galaotomannan alone,
it increases extremely when this product is used with dialdehyde starch. Other strengths and oil resistance are also greatly increased. The synergistic effect due to the use of starch,
Galactomannan dialdehyde is especially noteworthy for wet strength paper, general wrapping paper and specialty paper. The process according to the invention improves the strength of paper made from hardwood pulp.
As a result, it is possible to increase the use of hardwood pulp as a raw material for paper. When applied to higher quality paper, the charge retention can be increased and the difference on the two sides of the paper can become indistinguishable.
The amount by weight of galactomannans applied ranges from 0.1 to 2 parts per 1 part of dialdehyde starch, and the amount between 0.2 and 0.5 part is optimum as shown in Table 1. .
By adding to the pulp from 0.75 to 3% by weight of the mixture of dialdehyde starch and galactomannans, the satisfactory results shown in Table 2 can be obtained.
There are different methods of using galactomannancs with dialdehyde starch. For example Method 1 Galactomannans are dispersed in water at a predetermined concentration, while heating, and the dispersion is adjusted to a pH between 1.5 and 5.5. .
The mixture of divalidehyde starch and sodium bisulphite, the RTI ID = "0002.0244" WI = "14" HE = "4" LX = "1541" LY = "1063"> quantities of the latter being less than 15% by weight based on the weight of the dialdehyde amine,
is dispersed in said dispersion of galacomannans at a temperature of 85-90 ° C for 20 to 30 minutes. The reason why the disappearance of galactomannan - -is controlled at a pH between 1.5 and 5,
5 is that it is thus possible to prepare the dispersion of a suitable viscosity without the decomposition of the starch to idialdehyde in the dispersion step.
Method 2 To a powder mixture of dialdehyde starch and galactomannans in which the ratio of the two components is freely chosen, provided that it is within the above-mentioned limits,
The following sodium bisulfite is added in an amount less than 15% by weight based on the weight of the starch to the dialdehyde. This mixture thus prepared is dispersed in water after having been adjusted to a pH between 1.5 and 5.5 with acids such as HCl,
HNOs with heating for 20 to 40 minutes at 85-950 C.
Method 3 The -dispersion A is made by dispersing the galactomannans in. water and heating.
Dispersion B is made by dissolving the mixture formed by dialdehyde starch and sodium bisulfite (the amount of the latter being less than 15% by weight.
starch with dialdehyde) in water and heating. Dispersion A is added to the pulp at the wet end stage and Dispersion B is successively added in the same stage.
To illustrate the invention, the following example is given, in which the parts and the percentages are given by weight.
, Example (1) Preparation of the dispersion: starch with dialdehyde. Add 4 parts of starch to the dialdehyde to the aqueous sulfite solution of:
sodium prepared by dissolving 0.6 part of dialdehyde starch in 95.4 parts of water while stirring and heating at a temperature between 85 and 950 C for 25 minutes; a 4% dialdehyde starch dispersion was obtained.
(2) Preparation of the dispersion of gal.actomannan. Add 1 part of galactomannan to 99 parts of water with continuous stirring and heating at 75-850 C for 25 minutes; a 1% galactomannan dispersion was obtained.
(3) Preparation of the dispersion of the mixture formed by the starch with .dialdehyde and galactomannan.
A powder mixture of 1 part galactomannan, 4 parts dialdehyde starch and 0.6 parts sodium bisuite was added to 494.4 parts of water previously set at < B> p H of 2.2 with sulfurous acid while stirring and heating at 85-95 C for 30 minutes.
A dispersion of the mixture containing the dialdehyde starch and the galactomanmanes in various proportions was prepared in the same manner as said above.
(4) Addition to 1.a pulp.
The additive dispersion prepared as described above was added to NUKP beaten at SR 300 in the wet end stage, and the effect was identified.
In all cases. 1% resin primer and 5% alum were used:
with said dispersion. In the d stage of addition, the concentration of the pulp suspension was 2%. and the pH was maintained at 4.5 during the
leaf formation. The addition of each additive was carried out while maintaining the imibervail for 5 minutes. The formation of, leaves. was performed according to the TAPPI Standard methods.
(5) Measurement of the physical properties of the treated paper. The physical properties of the treated paper were measured by the JIS (Japanese Industrial Stan dard) method after preparation at a constant temperature of 20 ° C. and constant relative humidity of 65%.
1. To find the optimum ratio of starch to dialdehyde and galactomannan, the physical properties of the treated paper were measured. The result is shown in Table 1.
