DC generator The invention relates to a DC generator which is suitable for generating high currents and which can be used particularly advantageously for feeding superconducting coils.
The use of superconducting coils has recently gained particular importance in the generation of extremely high magnetic field strengths. These coils are housed in a cryostat in which the low temperature required for the superconductivity to occur is present. However, the losses occurring in the non-superconducting feed lines with the high currents required can assume considerable values.
To avoid these losses, the generator is housed in the cryostat itself.
According to the invention, the generator has a periodically changing magnetic field that moves relative to a system of superconductors, whereby voltages are induced in the superconductors, this system including at least one series circuit, consisting on the one hand of a conductor of a first type whose superconductivity is through the Magnetic field is not canceled, and on the other hand a parallel connection of at least two conductors of a second type (cryotrons),
whose superconductivity is canceled by the magnetic field, the magnetic field and the conductors being designed in such a way that at least one conductor of the second type remains superconducting at any given moment.
The invention is explained using the figures, for example: FIGS. 1 and 2 show a first variant in which the periodically changing magnetic field is generated by a rotating, preferably permanent magnet 1.
The system of superconductors rests and consists of a conductor of a first type 2, whose superconductivity is not canceled by the magnetic field, and two superconductors of a second type 3, whose superconductivity is canceled by the magnetic field (cryotrons), because the field strength is known Exceeds threshold. The superconducting connections 4, S provide on the one hand the parallel connection of the conductors and their series connection with the conductor 2.
The EMF induced by the moving magnetic field in each of the conductors of the second type is short-circuited, however, since the magnetic field and the conductors are designed so that at least one conductor 3 remains superconducting at any moment. However, the short-circuit current generated in the parallel connection of conductors 3 results in losses. In order to keep these losses as small as possible, these conductors 3 should have the greatest possible resistance in their normally conducting state, which can be achieved by appropriate shaping, e.g. can be achieved by extending the current path.
For example, the current path of the conductors of the second type 3 has a length which is greater than the distance between the conductor ends, this length being in particular at least twice this distance. This increased length of the current path can advantageously be achieved by folding the superconducting material.
Helical or zigzag shaped conductors are also conceivable. As you can see, the conductor system between the terminals 6 is superconducting at all times. For the current he generated, however, only the voltage induced in the conductor 2 is decisive, since the voltages induced in the conductors 3 are always short-circuited, so that the arrangement according to FIGS. 1 and 2 operates as a direct current generator.
A second variant is described with reference to FIGS. 3 and 4. Here the rotating permanent magnet has two poles.
Instead of a single system of superconductors according to FIGS. 1 and 2, two such systems are connected in series and spatially offset by 180 against each other according to the pole pitch in the direction of rotation of the magnet. The pairs of conductors of the second type 3a and 3b or 3c and 3d connected in parallel are offset from one another by 90.
FIGS. 5 and 6 relate to a third variant in which the ladder system is at rest and is designed essentially as in the first variant. Instead of a rotating permanent magnet, the moving magnetic field is generated with the aid of stationary three-phase windings 7.
So that the generator can act as a DC generator, the magnetic field in the air gap between the outer poles 8 and the inner pole 9 must have the same radial orientation over all or at least predominantly. This can advantageously be done by a permanent magnet or by a direct current winding e.g. can be implemented at point 10.
In the described variants with rotating magnets (FIGS. 1 to 4), the magnetic field has an approximately rectangular profile with steep rising and falling edges.
In order to improve the third variant, according to the invention, in order to achieve a similar, more or less rectangular shape, additional windings are attached to generate harmonics.
Instead of a single basic circuit system of superconductors as in the variants according to FIGS. 1 and. 2 or 5 and 6, regardless of the variant selected, several of these basic circuit systems can be connected in series in order to increase the generator voltage. A series connection of two systems is shown in Fig. 7 in the development.
It is known that any superconducting material loses its superconductivity when the material is exposed to a magnetic field whose field strength exceeds a specific threshold value. For the conductor of the first type 2 one can therefore advantageously choose a material; at which this threshold is not reached. However, this restricts the choice of material.
On the other hand, a material with a lower threshold value could be used for the conductor 2 if it is possible to weaken the applied magnetic field at the location of this conductor.
For example, such a weakening of the magnetic field is realized by arranging magnetic shielding bodies 11, which can have the form of magnetic bridges, as shown in Figs. 8 and 9 e.g. is shown in a variant with a rotating magnet.
