Der Chemismus der basisch katalysierten Polymerisation von Caprolactam wird durch folgende Gleichungen wiedergegeben : (Gleichung 1}

AthyMsocyanat und p-Phenylen-dissocyanat), Phosgen, Ester (z. B. Diäthyladipat, Dioctylcarbonat, n Butylpalmitat und Polyvinylacetat), N-Carboxyamino- säureanhydride (z. B. glycin-N-carboxyanhydrid und Instinsäureanhydrid), Amide (z. B. N, N-Diphenylformamid und Acetanilid), Sulfonamide (z. B. N-Methyl-p-toluolsulfonanilid und N,N-Diphenyl-p-toluolsulfonamid), Säurechloride (z. B. Acetylchlorid, Ben zoylchlorid und Carbamylchlorid, e), Säureanhydride (z. B. Maleinsäureanhydrid und Phthalsäureanhydrid), Urethane (z. B. Isopropyl-N-phenyl-carbamat, Di äthylcarbamat und 2-Keto-tetrahydro-l, 3-oxazin), Harnstoffe (z. B. sym. Diphenylharnstoff, sym.
Methylamin, Athylamin, n-Propylamin, i-Propylamin, n-Butylamin, t-Butylamin, n-Pentylamin, t-Amylamin, n-Hexylamin,
2-Athylhexylamin, n-Octylamin, n-Decylamnin,
Laurylamin, Cetylamin, n-Hexadecylamin, Stearytamin, Allylamin, ov-Decenylaminl,
Oleylamin, Benzylamin, Phenäthylamin,
Cycloshexylamin, Cyclopentylamin,
Cyclopentenylamin, Anilin, o-, m-oder p-Toluidin,
2, 4-, 2, 5- oder 3, 5-Xylidin, a-oder ss-naphtylamin, Furfurylamin,
Thenylamin, Dimethylamin, Diäthylamin,
Di-2-äthylhexylamin, Diallyamin,
Dicyclohexylamin, Athylimethylamin, n-Butyl-2-äthylhexylamin, Allymethylamin, n-Butylpropenzylamin, Cyclohexyläthylamin,
Piperidin, Piperszin, Morpolin usw.
Beispiel 2

Process for the polymerization of lactams
The present invention relates to a process for the base-catalyzed polymerization of higher lactams, wherein the molecular weight of the polymerization product can be controlled as desired and reproducibly.
In most polymerization processes, e.g. B. with those for the production of polyamides and especially with base-catalyzed polymerizations of lactams, the polymerization products obtained are a mixture of types of polymers with different molecular weights. Accordingly, the so-called molecular weight of most polymers is an average molecular weight.
In some cases, however, a mixture of polymer types with a broad range of molecular weights is undesirable. For example, films obtained from nylon with a very broad molecular weight distribution by the Bftas process have an excessively grainy appearance, while those obtained from nylon by the same process with narrower molecular weight distributions are relatively clear.
Another problem with the production of most polymers is the accurate and regular production of a polymer of a predetermined average molecular weight. The base-catalyzed polymerization of caprolactam is carried out in the complete absence of water without the formation of amino acids.
The chemistry of the base catalyzed polymerization of caprolactam is given by the following equations: (Equation 1}

The reactions identified by equations 3 to 6 continue indefinitely, as the sodium atom is repeatedly transferred to a new VCaprolaction monomer molecule, because it is in turn linked to the polymer molecule by opening the lactam ring at the end of the polymer molecule.
From the foregoing it can be seen that base catalyzed polymerization comprises successive reactants of two different general categories: l. Opening of a lactam ring between an acyl group and a secondary nitrogen atom and 2.
Opening of a lactam ring between an acyl group and a tertiary nitrogen atom. The first type of reaction is given in equation 2, the second type of reaction in equations 4 and 6. The primary amino group is only formed in the reaction which affects the secondary nitrogen atom (equations 2 and 3), where N- (w-aminocaproyl) - # -caprodlactam is formed. Further polymerisation centers arise at the N, N-diacyl group at the other end of the polymer molecule, and this polymerisation takes place regardless of the presence of the primary amimo group.
Accordingly, if instead of the N- (oo-aminocaproyl) -E-caprolactams formed according to equations 2 to 3 and converted according to equation 4, an N, N-diacyl compound free of primary amino groups is used, the further polymerization in the same general form as given above, a polymer being formed which has no primary acid amino end group.
To create a limited number of active cells for lactam polymerization, tertiary N, N-diacyl nitrogen compounds can be used; The number of polymer molecules formed during the polymerization is limited and the formation of polymers with a higher average molecular weight is made possible than was previously possible.
A further investigation of the above-described polymerization system has shown that, under many circumstances, the polymerization proceeds so rapidly from the artificially created active sites that not all active sites are used to the same extent, that is, polymer molecules are formed from some of the sites extremely high molecular weights, the remaining amount of monomer not being sufficient to form molecules with an equally high molecular weight from the rest of the sites.
This then leads to the above-mentioned difficulties in the reproducible control of the mean molecular weight and the molecular weight distribution in the lactam polymerization.
A process has now been found by which both the size and the distribution of the molecular weight in the base-catalyzed polymerization of lactams with more than 5 carbon atoms in the lactam ring can be controlled very precisely and reproducibly. The process according to the invention is characterized in that the polymerization is carried out under anhydrous conditions at an initial temperature which is above the melting point of the lactam but below the melting point of the polymer, and in the presence of a) 0.01 to 20 mol% , based on the lactammonomer, an organic nitrogen compound that acts as an accelerator and is free of nitrogen atoms that carry more than one hydrogen atom,

The polymerization system
The polymerization system is the base-catalyzed polymerization of higher lactams, i.e. lactams with more than 5 carbon atoms in the lactam ring. Practically the most important lactam in this category is e-caprolactam. However, the invention is also applicable to other higher lactams, e.g. B. on methyl cyclohexanone isoxime, cycloheptanone isoxime, cyclooctaon isoxime, cyclopentadecanone isoxime, cyclic hexamethylene adipamide, etc.
In the base-catalyzed polymerization system (in contrast, for example, to the hydrolytic polymerization system), the polymerization takes place through the ionization of the lactam molecule with the formation of an iminium ion. Thus, the terminology of base-ketalized polymerization of lactams refers to a polymerization with the formation of the iminium ion, which is carried out under conditions under which the generic immumines are stable.
The catalyst
Suitable catalysts for the base-catalyzed polymerization according to the present invention are old metals (in metallic form or as complex ions or compounds) which are capable of forming strong enough acids (in the sense of Lewis acid) to produce an iminium salt of the lactam to be polymerized. This iminium salt then forms the active catalyst of the present base-catalyzed polymerization system. Examples of such catalysts are the alkali and alkaline earth metals (eg sodium, potassium, lithium, calcium, strontium, barium, magnesium, etc.), be it in metallic form or in the form of hydrides, borohydrides, oxides, hydroxides , Carbonates, etc.
(In the case of compounds such as the hydroxides and carbonates, which form water when reacted with lactams, most of this water must be removed from the polymerisation system [for example by applying heat and / or reduced pressure] before the base-catalyzed polymerisation can follow If this water is not removed, the required iminium ion is not stable and hydrolytic polymerisation occurs instead of base catalyzed polymerisation.) Other effective catalysts are the organometalic derivatives of the aforementioned; Metals as well as other MetaNe.
Examples of such organometallic compounds are lithium, potassium and sodium alkyls, such as butyl lithium, ethyl potassium or propylanatium, or aryl compounds of such metals as sodium phenyl. Other useful organometallic compounds are diphenyl magnesium, zinc diethyl, triisopropyl aluminum, diisobutyl aluminum hydride, etc. As a general class, the substances known as Grignard reagents are effective as basic catalysts for the present invention.
Examples of such Gignard catalysts are ethyl magnesium chloride,
Methyhnagnesium bromide,
Phenyl magnesium bromide and the like. Sodium amide, magnesium amide and magnesium anilide as well as numerous other substances are also found to be cold-analyzers.
The inventive base-catalyzed polymerisation of higher lactams is usually carried out with a catalyst concentration which is between a small fraction of a percentage (e.g. 0.01%) and up to 15 or 20 mol%, based on the amount of the polymer to be polymerized Monomers. In general, the preferred catalyst concentrations are; but between about 0.1 mole percent and about 1 percent of the lactam monomer.
The accelerators
The accelerators used in the polymerization according to the invention have already been defined above.

EMI4.1
As has already been said, X "can be a C atom that is not the C atom of a carbonyl or thiocarbonyl group. This C atom can, for example, be a C atom of a hydrocarbon radical, such as aryl , Alkyl, aralkyl, alkaryl, cycloalkyl etc., or a heterocyclic radical such as pyridyl, quinolyl etc.
act. However, X "can also be one of the groups specified for X (with the exception of -N = 0). In the radical containing this group and bonded to the N atom, substituents or other radial groups such as carbonyl, N-substituted Carbamyl, alkoxy, ether, sulfonyl, tertiary amino groups, etc., or any other non-interfering groups (i.e. groups which do not preferentially react with the lactam and do not otherwise impair the essential effect of the polymerization catalyst or the accelerators or regulators present. gen) exist.
The substituents associated with the carbonyl, thiocarbonyl, sulfonyl,

<tb> are not subject to any restriction, provided that they are free of interfering groups (e.g. acidic groups which affect the alkali or alkali metal potassium lysers).
Examples of non-interfering groups are hydrogen atoms and the alkyl and heterocyclic radicals, which are mentioned in the previous paragraph, including radicals which have polar groups, such as tertiary amino groups, acylamide groups (R-CO-NH-), N -substituted carbamide groups, ether groups, etc. have. The radicals X and X 'can be linked to one another to form a ring system (as, for example, in the case of the cyclic imides described in more detail below).
Furthermore, the radical X and the tertiary nitrogen atom can form part of a ring system which does not include the radical X '(e.g. in the case of the lactams described later).
A preferred class of substances which correspond to the structure given are the N-substitutes imides, that is to say compounds of the type mentioned with at least two carbonyl groups which are directly connected to the tertiary nitrogen atom. This group of compounds can be characterized by the following structural formula:
EMI4.3
A particularly effective group of N-substituted imides are the N-carbonyl-lactams, such as
N-Acethyl-2pyrriolideon, N-Acetyl -? - caprolactam, N-Benzoyl - # - caprolactiam,

Another preferred group of NX-substituted imides comprises those with a majority of the essential tertiary N, N-dicarbonyl nitrogen atom groups. This class includes compounds in which a part of the group (for example an acrylate glycol) is common to two or more of the essential structures that promote polymerization. Examples of this class are the N, N, N "-triphenyl esters of isocyanuric acid, N, N-di- (phenylcarbamyl) -N, N'-dimethylurea, ethylene disuccinimide, etc.
Examples of further N-substituted imides which are suitable for the improved polymerisation described above are N, N-diacetylmethylamine, N, N-di-benzoylaniline, triacetamide, N-acetyl-N-formaly-ethylamine, N-propionyl saccharine etc.
Another class of effective accelerators which can be used according to the invention comprises the N-carbonyl-sulfonamides which do not contain a hydrogen atom on the sulfonamide nitrogen atom. Examples of this general class of substances are:

EMI5.1
as obtained by heating o-benzenesulfonamidobenzoyl chloride with pyridine.
Another preferred class of suitable compounds for use in accordance with the invention comprises the disulfonamides such as N, N-di- (p-toluenesulfonyl) aniline, N, N-di- (benzdlisulfonyl) methylamine and other N, N-dibenzenesulionylalkylamines , as well as the corresponding N, N-dialkansulfonylakylamines, such as N, N-di- (methanesulfonyl) -ethylamine etc.
Another preferred type of active polymerization-promoting compounds comprises the N nitrosoamides. Examples of this class of compounds are

N, N-diacetylnitrosoamine, NLNitroso-N-acetyl-propylamine,
N-nitroso-N, N'-di-n-butylurea,
N-methyl-N-nitroso-urethane and other N-substituted N-nitroso-carbamates etc.
Another preferred class of accelerators for the polymer according to the invention! ationl includes the N-nitrososulfonamides, such as
N-nitroso-N-methylbenzenesulfonamide,
N-nitroso-N-methyl-p0-toluenesulfonamide,
N-nitroso-N-ethyl-methoanesulfonamide,
N-nitroso-N-phenethyl-butanesulfonamide etc.
Another preferred class of accelerators for the present invention comprises tertiary N-acyl-NLphosphinyl nitrogen compounds such as
N- (dimethylphosphinyl) - # - caprolation,

N- (diethylphosphinyl) -N-methylacetamide,
N- (diethoxyphosphinyl) -N-methyl-p-toluene sulfonamide, etc.
As stated above, one or more of the acyl oxygen atoms of the various compounds described here can be replaced by sulfur atoms to form the corresponding thioacyl compounds, without impairing the effectiveness of the compounds as accelerators for the polymerization of lactams according to the present invention would be destroyed.
Examples of thio compounds of this type are 1-acetryl-2-thiohdantione and 3-butyl-5,5-dimethyl-2-thio-2,4-oxazolidinedione. Other suitable bio-analogs of the aforementioned acyl compounds are
N-thiobenzoly-2-pyrroldon,
N-thiopropionuyl maleimide, NL-phenylidithiosuccinimide,
N- (n-0otylcarbamyl) -2-thiopyrrolidone,
N- (dimethylthiophosphinyl) - # - caprolactam etc.
The concentration of the accelerator used in the process according to the invention is between 0.01 and 20 times%, preferably between about 0.1 and about 1 mol%, based on the lactam monomer.
In the foregoing, reference was made to the addition of the tertiary N, N-diacylstic accelerators to the lactam monomer or lactam polymerization mixture; It should be noted, however, that these accelerators can also easily be formed in situ in the polymerization reaction mixture. For example, n-butylamine and phthalic anhydride can be added separately to the lactam monomer, whereupon a reaction occurs with the formation of N-n butylphthalimide, an effective accelerator.
A particularly effective way of producing the accelerators according to the invention in situ consists in adding a compound which acylates the lactam monomer itself to form an N-acyllactam accelerator. The main criterion for such acylating additives is that they acylate the lactam monomer (under the reaction conditions used) more easily than the lactam monomer molecules acylate one another [i.e. by opening the lactam ring and reacting with other lactam molecules to form N - (# - Aminocaproyl) - # - caprolactam].
Examples of suitable lactam acylating agents for the preparation of accelerators which can be used according to the invention in situ are ketenes, isocyanates (e.g.
EthyMsocyanat and p-phenylene dissocyanate), phosgene, esters (e.g. diethyl adipate, dioctyl carbonate, n-butyl palmitate and polyvinyl acetate), N-carboxyamino acid anhydrides (e.g. glycine-N-carboxyanhydride and instinic anhydride), amides (e.g. B. N, N-diphenylformamide and acetanilide), sulfonamides (e.g. N-methyl-p-toluenesulfonanilide and N, N-diphenyl-p-toluenesulfonamide), acid chlorides (e.g. acetyl chloride, benzoyl chloride and carbamyl chloride, e ), Acid anhydrides (e.g. maleic anhydride and phthalic anhydride), urethanes (e.g. isopropyl-N-phenyl-carbamate, diethyl carbamate and 2-keto-tetrahydro-1,3-oxazine), ureas (e.g. sym Diphenylurea, sym.
Di methyl urea and tetramethyl urea) as well as numerous other compounds.
It should be noted that in many cases the above-described formation of accelerators in situ also the formation of by-products (e.g.
Hydrogen chloride, carboxylic acids, amines, water, etc.), which must be taken into account and compensated for. This can be done, for example, by removing the by-product, using additional catalyst to compensate for the portion inactivated by the by-product, etc.
The regulator
The regulator compounds which are used in conjunction with the above-described accelerators according to the present invention are either primary acids or secondary amines, that is to say amines with at least one hydrogen atom directly on the amino nitrogen atom. It can either be aliphatic or cyclic amines. The aliphatic amines can be either saturated or unsaturated and have either normal or branched chains.
The cyclic amines can either be those in which the amino nitrogen atom is part of the ring (i.e. N-heterocyclic amines) or those in which the rings are rather attached to the amino nitrogen atom (i.e. as in alicyclic , heterocyclic or aromatic substituted amines). The secondary nurses can either be symmetrical (that is, two identical radials which are bonded directly to the amino stick material atom) or asymmetrical, in that they are e.g. B. mixed arylakylmines, unsymmetrical alkylamines, etc. represent.
The primary amines have generally been found to be more suitable than the secondary amines. In order for the secondary amines to have a generally considerable effectiveness, their bias should be higher than that of N-methyl'aniline.
Examples of typical amines which can be used as regulators according to the invention are:
Methylamine, ethylamine, n-propylamine, i-propylamine, n-butylamine, t-butylamine, n-pentylamine, t-amylamine, n-hexylamine,
2-ethylhexylamine, n-octylamine, n-decylamine,
Laurylamine, cetylamine, n-hexadecylamine, stearytamine, allylamine, ov-decenylamine,
Oleylamine, benzylamine, phenethylamine,
Cycloshexylamine, cyclopentylamine,
Cyclopentenylamine, aniline, o-, m- or p-toluidine,
2, 4-, 2, 5- or 3, 5-xylidine, a- or ss-naphthylamine, furfurylamine,
Thenylamine, dimethylamine, diethylamine,
Di-2-ethylhexylamine, diallyamine,
Dicyclohexylamine, ethylimethylamine, n-butyl-2-ethylhexylamine, allymethylamine, n-butylpropenzylamine, cyclohexylethylamine,
Piperidine, Piperszin, Morpoline, etc.
It emerges from the foregoing that the term amine (as it is used in relation to the present regulator) includes both imino compounds (that is to say compounds in which two of the three bonds originating from the nitrogen atom are attached to the same Atom or lead to the same atom group) and amino compounds are included. However, the term does not include amido or imido nitrogen atoms (as in acetamide, caprolactam or maleimide), in which the nitrogen atoms are adjacent to an acyl radical.
It should be noted that the essential active configuration of the aforementioned amine regulators is the primary or secondary amine group, and while the presence of additional radicals (polar or otherwise) other than those of the categories listed above is not required, such additional radicals are affected Radial the usefulness of the amines as regulators is not essential - provided, of course, that the additional radicals or groups are not those which predominantly react with the lactam or destroy it or in any other way the essential effect of the polymerization catalysts,
Affect the accelerator or controller. Examples of substituted amines which do not affect the polymerization according to the invention are haloarylamines such as p-chloroaniline, methoxyarylamines such as anisidine, etc. Further examples of polar-substituted amino compounds which are effective regulators are the salve and esters of amino acids, eg . B. ethyl glycinate, the methyl ester of # -amino-oenanthic acid, the sodium salt of # -amino-caproic acid, N- (ss-aminoethyl) acelamide, etc.
Other suitable regulators are compounds which contain two or more amino and / or imino groups, such as hexamethylenedimain; Polyamines such as diethylenetriamine; und'Polyamino- polyethers, such as 1,2-bis- (3-aminopropxy) -ethene.
It is also possible to carry out the present invention in such a way that the required amine regulators are prepared in situ in the polymerization mixture instead of adding the amine itself to the polymerization mixture. As mentioned earlier, the numerous salts and esters of amino acids are effective regulating amines. These compounds can easily be formed from the lactam monomer in the polymerization mass by simply adding an appropriate amount of a material such as sodium hydroxide (or water which will react with the basic metal catalyst to form a hydroxide) which will hydrolyze some of the caprolactam ter formation of the necessary amount of the metal salt of the amino acid of the lactam monomer.
The same effect is achieved by using an alcohol (e.g. ethyl alcohol) to form in situ a regulating concentration of an ester of the amino acid of the lactam monomer.
The concentration of the regulating amine to be used according to the invention depends on the concentration of the accelerator used. In general, preference is given to such a quantitative ratio between accelerator and regulator that each trivalent, the central atom of a group
EMI7.1
nitrogen atom of the accelerator forming an amine nitrogen atom of the regulator, which carries hydrogen, is omitted. However, considerable deviations from this ratio are also permissible without losing the desired effect which is achieved according to the invention.
According to the invention, the regulator and the accelerator are used in such a quantity ratio that on each trivalent, the central atom of a group
EMI7.2
The nitrogen atom of the accelerator forming 0.25 to 2, preferably about 0.5 to about 1.5, amine nitrogen atoms of the regulator which carry hydrogen are omitted
As mentioned further above, the in situ formation of the accelerators can give rise to the formation of water, various amines, etc. (as by-products). These by-products must be taken into account in determining the optimal governor / accelerator ratio, as discussed above.
The sequence in which the various components required (that is to say monomer, catalyst, accelerator and regulator) are added in the process according to the invention is not particularly critical under most circumstances, but some precautionary measures must be observed. If, for example, the catalyst used is one which splits off water during the reaction with the lactam (as in the folds of hydroxide or carbonate catalysts mentioned earlier), the water must be removed before the accelerators according to the invention are added otherwise the accelerators will be inactivated.
In general terms, the accelerators according to the invention must not be added to the polymerization system before this system has been stabilized with respect to the iminium ion. (See earlier discussion in The Polymerization System section.)
The polymerization of the present invention can be carried out by any of the known methods, e.g. B. by bulk polymerization, solution polymerization or suspension polymerization.
The polymerization takes place easily and quickly at temperatures of only 100 C. It also takes place at much higher temperatures, including the usual lactam polymerization temperatures (230 to 250 C), the initial temperature during the polymerization, however, always below the melting point of the polymer has lying.
At temperatures above 190 or 200 C, however, the advantages of reproducibility, controllability, etc. are less pronounced. The polymerization temperatures are thus temperatures between approximately
140 and about 180 C preferred. At these temperatures, the majority of the polymerization reaction (for example 90% or higher conversion of monomer to polymer) is generally complete within a few minutes. It is, however, often expedient to keep the mass at the polymerization temperature for a prolonged period (e.g. up to several hours) in order to achieve maximum conversion (e.g. 99%).
In order to minimize the discoloration of the polymer product, it is generally desirable to conduct the polymerization under an inert atmosphere (e.g. nitrogen) or to otherwise prevent the oxygen from catalysing with the lactam monomer, etc. at higher temperatures . comes into contact.
The polycaprolactams produced according to the examples described below all had a melting point of about 222 C.
example 1
One mole (113 g) of # -caprolactam distilled in vacuo was melted in a kettle under an atmosphere of dry nitrogen. 1/200 mol (0.12 g) of sodium hydride catalyst were dissolved in the melt. A mixture of 1/200 mol (0.71 cm3) N-ethyl s-caprolactam and 1/200 mol (0.66 cm3) n-hexylamine was added to the catalyzed monomer. The temperature of the reaction mixture was increased to 160 ° C. and held at this point until the polymerization was safely ended (about 31 /.,.
Hours). The solid white polymer obtained was cooled, ground to the fineness of a sieve with a mesh size of 3.17 mm, leached to remove residual monomer (first with 0.5% aqueous formic acid solution and then with water) and then at 105 C dried.
The average molecular weight and the molecular weight distribution of this polymer were determined by measuring the melt index and the shape recovery (memory) of the polymer as it passed through an extrusion plastometer. The melt index is a measure of the molecular weight and is determined by measuring the speed at which the polymer is pressed out through a standard spinning nozzle under a certain constant pressure and at a certain temperature.
It was measured in accordance with ASTM D'-1238-52T, but using a weight of 6.885 g and maintaining a temperature of 250 ° C. during the extrusion. The memory is defined as the percentage increase in the diameter of the extruded polymer compared to the diameter of the spinning orifice through which it is extruded.
(A polymer with a wide molecular weight distribution has a high memory, while a polymer with a very narrow molecular weight distribution has a low memory.) The polymer described above had a melt index of 5.24 g / minute and a memory of less than 1%, while a polymer produced in the same way, but without using the n-hexylamine regulator, had a melt index of 0.05 g / minute and a memory of over 100%.
Example 2
One mole (113 g) of distilled # -caprolactam was melted under an atmosphere of dry nitrogen, after which 1/140 mole (1.0 cm3) of N-acetyl - # - caprolatam, 1/140 mole (1, 7 cm3) of tertiary dodecylamine and 1/140 mol (0.17 g) of sodium hydride were added and the mixture was heated to 160 ° C. for 2 hours.
The polymer obtained was ground and leached in the manner described in Example 1. The purified polymer had a melt index of 4.07 g / minute and a memory of 18.3%, while a polymer produced in the same way, but without the addition of tertiary dodecylamine, had a melt index of 0.48 g per minute and a 70.7% memory.
Example 3
In the same manner as in Example 2, a polymer was prepared using 1 mole (113 g) # -caprolactiom, 1/800 mole (0.26 cm3) bis- (4-isocyanatophenyl) methane, 1/400 mole (0.26 cm3) 06 g) sodium hydride and 1/400 mole (0.23 cm3) aniline. The polymer had a melt index of 0.49 g / minute and a memory of 19.5%, while a polymer produced in the same way but without the addition of aniline had a Schmehmdex of less than 0.05 and a memory of over 100% exhibited.
Example 4
In the manner described in Example 1, a polymer was prepared using 1/200 mol of N-acetyl - # - caprolacam, 1/400 mol (0.44 g) 1,2-bis-3-aminopropoxy) and 1/200 Mole (0.12 g) sodium hydride. The polymer had a melt index of 1.89 g / minute and a memory of 9.6%. A polymer produced in the same way, but without the addition of 1,2-bis- (3-aminopropoxy) -ethane, had a melt index of 0.05 g / minute and a memory. of over 100%.
Example 5
In the manner described in Example 1, a polymer was prepared using 1/200 mol (0.71 cm3) of N-ethyl-E-caprolactam, 1/200 mol (0.84 cm3) of di-n-butylamine and 1 / 200 moles (0.12 g) sodium hydride. The polymer had a melting point of 1.18 g / minute and a memory of 52.4 0. A polymer produced in the same way, but without the use of di-n-butylamine, had a melt index of 0.05 g / minute and a memory of over 100%.
Example 6
A polymer was prepared according to the method described in Example 2 using 1/100 mole (0.24 g) sodium hydride, 1/200 mole (0.71 cm3) N-acetyl-e-caprolactam and 1/200 mole (0 , 09 cm3) water; The latter was used to form E-aminocaproic acid in situ by hydrolysis of E-caprolactam. The polymer had a melt index of 4.5 g / minute and a memory p of less than 1%. A polymer prepared in the same way but without the addition of water had a melt index of 0.05 g / minute and a memory of over 100%.
Example 7
To explain the effect of changes in the concentration of catalyst and regulator, a number of E-caprolactam polymers were produced using sodium hydride as the catalyst, n-acetyl-E-caprolactam as the accelerator and aniline as the regulator, the in the molar ratios listed in Table I below were used. The melt index, the approximate molecular weight, and the memory of the polymers obtained are also listed in the table.

The table above shows that the change in the ratio of accelerator to monomer can be used to regulate the molecular weight of the polymer and that the regulator can serve to reduce the memory of the polymer.
Example 8
To demonstrate the high degree of reproducibility and! the controllability, which can be achieved by using the regulator according to the invention, eight polymer samples were prepared under comparable conditions with regard to temperature tUf (160 C), catalyst concentration (sodium hydride, 1/200 mol) and accelerator concentration (N-acetyl-e-caprolactam, 1 / 200 moles). In the first five preparations, 1/200 mol of aniline was also used, while in the last three preparations no aniline nor any other regulator was used.
The molecular weights of the polymers obtained were then determined by measuring the specific viscosities of solutions which contained 0.1% by weight of polymer in 90% strength aqueous formic acid. The results are listed in Table II below.
Table II

1 0, 160
2 0, 164

4 0, 164
5 0, 159
6 0, 436
7 0, 531

As can be seen from Table n, the fluctuation between the minimum and maximum viscosity of the polymers regulated with aniline was only 0.005.
For the unregulated polymers, even the smallest variation between samples was 0.095, and the variation between minimum and maximum was 0.203.
