Y" = 20 uA.
Y" ... 26. Y" bilden.
I>k .</I> 2 <I>... k .</I> 2E.
Analog-digital converter The invention relates to an analog-digital converter in which a measuring current proportional to the analog voltage to be converted is compared with the total current of the binary graded partial currents flowing through connected resistors from a reference voltage source and in which a Starting from the largest partial current, the control circuit connects as many partial resistances as
until the measured current is compensated by the total current or at most by less than the smallest binary graded partial current greater than. or total current. The number of digital levels provides the desired digital value of the analog voltage to be converted.
With this analog-digital unisetter, the measurement accuracy is given as a first approximation by the resolution, which is the value of the smallest; binary graded partial flow has. The measuring accuracy can normally only be increased by reducing the smallest, binary graded partial flow. However, in terms of effort, this results in a disadvantageous increase in the number of binary stages.
The invention shows an analog-digital converter in which the resolution is improved by a factor of 2 without increasing the number of binary levels.
The analog-to-digital converter is. characterized in that the measuring current is increased by a constant additional current which is equal to half of the smallest, binary graded partial current.
Using the drawing, the invention will be explained in more detail for example.
FIG. 1 shows the basic arrangement of the analog-dibtal converter. Fig. 2 shows the scheme .a In Fig. 1, 1 denotes the source of the analog voltage UL to be converted,
which generates a measuring tube 1F flowing through the measuring resistor R with the conductance Y and the comparative arrangement 2. With 3 is the reference voltage source with the voltage U ,. referred to, which in turn a by means of the switches So ... S "switched on partial resistors R" ...
R "and the comparative arrangement 2 is generated through the current IS. The resistors R" ... R "are binary, that is, R" has the conductance 20. Y ", R1:
the conductance 21. Yo etc. and R "the conductance 2n. Y". The current 1s is the total current of the partial currents flowing through the respective closed resistors. Its direction of current is opposite to that of the measuring current IF,
so that initially the comparison arrangement 2 is traversed by the differential current AI = IE-Is. With 4 the control circuit is also referred to schematically, which in a known manner the connection of the partial resistors R "...
R2 Concerned in the first place, the partial resistance R "of the highest binary level is switched on by closing the switch S". If the differential current in comparison arrangement 2 is positive,
that is, the measurement current h is greater than the sum current IS, the switch S "remains closed. In the event of a negative differential current: the switch S, t is opened again.
The control circuit 4: then closes the switch S, 11 of the next lower binary level and thus switches the partial resistance: R "_ 1 on. If the differential current is positive, the switch S" -1 remains closed. If the differential current is negative, switch S "_ is opened again.
In the same way, all the following binary stages up to the last stage with the switch S "and the partial resistance R" are tried out by the control circuit. The analog voltage Ur is represented at least approximately in binary form by the switching state of the switches S "... S" of the binary stages, with a closed switch, for example, being assigned the value L and an open switch being assigned the value O.
The deviation from the nominal value is at most equal to the resolution, i.e. less than the smallest, binary graded partial current, which is equal to the current generated by the connection of the partial resistor R "with the conductance 20. Y". The resolving power u = U, is related to the input voltage UE. Y "/ Y, where Y is the conductance of the measuring resistor R and U,..
Y "are the smallest binary graded partial flow. The deviation always occurs in the same direction, so it is an asymmetrical error.
With 5 in Fig. 1, a current source for a constant additional current Ir is designated, by which, according to the invention, the measuring current IE is increased by an amount equal to half of the smallest, binary graded partial current.
The comparison arrangement 2 is accordingly traversed by the difference current .1I = 'E -f- Ir - IS:. The invention achieves that the resolving power a. the resulting deviation from the setpoint is symmetrical and equal to a / 2, so only half. This should be clarified using a numerical example.
In an analog-digital converter according to FIG. 1, the measuring resistor has a conductance Y of 0.5. 10-3 ohms-1. Furthermore, the smallest binary graded partial flow is Ur.
Y "= 20 uA. An analog voltage U" of 38 mV is now to be implemented, initially without additional current Ir. The analog voltage UE generates a current IE of 19, among others, flowing through the resistor R. The differential current in the comparison arrangement 2 is thus with the last binary.
Stage (switch S ", closed resistor R") negative, so that switch S "is opened again. The deviation of the digital measured value O from the analog measured value is accordingly 19 uA or 38 mV.
Due to the introduction of the constant additional current I ,, of the size 20 uA / 2 = 10 uA to the measuring current IE, the total current IE -i- Ir = 29 ttA supplied to the comparison arrangement 2 from the input side. When the switch S1 is closed, the resistance R1 flows with the conductance value 21.
Y "a current h of 40 uA. The differential current AI = 'E -f- 1I; - IS = -11 uA in the comparison arrangement 2 is therefore negative, so that the switch S1 is opened again. As a result, the switch S" closed, which causes a current IS of 20 uA flowing through the resistor R ".
Since the differential current AI in the comparison arrangement 2 is positive, namely -i-9 uA, the switch So remains closed. The deviation of the current (20 uA) generated by this last binary stage (S ", R") from the nominal value (19 uA) is only 1 uA. In the extreme case, the deviation is 10 u1A, for example when converting a measuring current of 10 tlA, 30 uA etc.,
compared to a maximum deviation of 20 uA with conventional converters.
In the exemplary embodiment of the analog-digital converter shown schematically in FIG. 2, the source of the analog voltage Ur to be converted is denoted as in turn with 1. The positive pole of this voltage source is at the input of the isolating amplifier 6, which has a voltage gain of 1 with, for example, an input resistance of at least 30 megohms and an output resistance of about 0.025 ohms. The output voltage of the isolation amplifier 6 is therefore the same as the measurement voltage Ur ", but it is above a considerably smaller resistance.
Between the output of the isolation amplifier 6 and the connection point A is the measuring resistor of, for example, 2000 ohms. The connection point A represents a virtual earth, so that a current Ir proportional to the measurement voltage UE flows in it.
In connection point A, the additional current 11 flows with the same sign. This is taken from a constant voltage source 7 via a potentiometer 8 and a high-voltage resistor 9 of 1 megohm, for example.
Finally, the total current I, generated by the reference voltage source 3 and connected resistors flows at the connection point A with the opposite sign. The partial current switches s "... s ,; consist in turn of a switch and an associated resistor, the conductance values of the resistors forming a geometrical row 20. Y" ... 26. Y ".
The differential current AI = Ir -I-Ir-IS amplified in the amplifier 10 is fed to the input of the coding register 11.
The coding register, which we sentlichen in a known manner. : there is a shift register and a holding register, the latter of which has stages STO ... STe with bistable tilting holdings, causes the partial current switch to be actuated in a manner known per se ... s,;.
In the Fi gur mechanical switches are drawn as switches. These are expediently formed by electronic, for example transistorized, switches which are actuated by control potentials on the control lines of the coding register 11 shown in dashed lines. A stage ST, ... ST ,; of the coding register 11 is continuously assigned to each substream holder s "... s ,;
Furthermore, a clock generator 12 is provided which supplies trigger pulses for the coding register.
By the first trigger pulse the part current switch s ,; closed. Depending on whether the current at connection point A is positive or negative, the next trigger pulse: leaves the stage ST6 of the coding register unaffected, so that switch s6 remains closed, or tilts it into the other stable position, so that the switch ss is opened again.
The same process is repeated in sequence for all further stages up to the last stage STO or so. At the end of the cycle, the coding register 11 contains one of the analog input voltage UI, proportional digital value <I> k. </I> 2 <I> ... k. </I> 2E. The additional current Ir is dimensioned as follows:
that it has half the value of the lowest partial current, i.e. the current of the partial current switch.
