Description

Process and continuous rolling mill for the production of granules from plastic masses
Many methods and devices are known for producing granules from plastic masses.

The present invention relates specifically to the production of granules from plastic masses in such a way that mass strands are produced between counter-rotating, all-round grooved, closely spaced forming rollers with grooves and these strands are then later broken up.

As experience has shown, connective membranes appear between the mass strands formed by means of the forming rollers, through which the mass strands are held together like a band. When cross-cutting such a strip, the desired granulate is not produced, but rather cross-stripes with a multitude of granules corresponding to the multitude of grooves in the rolling mill and still held together by thin skins, especially when a viscoplastic mass of rubbery nature is processed.

The method according to the invention is characterized in that the mass strands are initially held in the form grooves from their point of production, they are only later removed from the form grooves at a peripheral point of the form rollers remote from the point of production and then broken up.

The strand forming mill according to the invention for carrying out the method is characterized in that the forming grooves arranged around the counter-rotating forming rollers have a cross-section which prevents the strand from falling out, and that means are provided away from the strand production point in order to detach the strand from the grooves and then to dismember.

In the following, an exemplary embodiment of the method and the continuous-forming rolling mill according to the invention is described with reference to the drawing.

Fig. 1 shows a continuous rolling mill partly in section and partly in view,
Fig. 2 shows the forming roll arrangement, seen in plan view of the forming rolling mill shown in Fig. 1,
3, 4 and 5 each show a particular example of the cross-sectional configuration of the shaped grooves.

In the forming rollers 1 and 2, the grooves marked 1 'and 2' are included. The rollers are moved close to one another and, as can be seen from FIG. 2, are arranged with their shaped grooves offset from one another. When rolling out the plastic mass M to be applied from above to the forming rollers 1 and 2, the mass strands 1 "and 2" result in the forming grooves 1 'and 2', which are held in place in the forming grooves 1 ', 2' from their point of production E, namely up to one of the forming roller circumferential point remote from the generating point, where they are released from the forming grooves by special strippers.

Particularly advantageous scrapers are rollers or disks 3 which engage in the grooves of the rollers 1, 2 and can be rotated counter to the rollers. In order to keep the strands of mass stuck to the forming rollers in their forming grooves, the forming grooves 1, 2 'in the embodiment according to FIG. 1 are provided with adhesive grooves 4 on the right and left. From Fig. 4 these grooves 1 and 2 can be seen particularly clearly.

The forming rollers can also be provided with forming grooves with a different cross section, e.g. B. with an arcuate cross section as in FIG. 3, or with a dovetail-shaped undercut cross section as in FIG. 5.

The mass strands 1 ", 2" detached from the grooves at a point on the circumference of the rollers far from their point of origin E are broken up by means of the cutting devices St, 52. Particularly advantageous are cutting devices in the embodiment shown in FIG. 1, each with a fixed knife 5 or 5 '. and two or more cut-off knives 7, 7 'rotatable about an axis 6 or 6'.

The cutting tools can optionally be provided in any other appropriate embodiment. The wedge-shaped cutting tool K placed between the forming rollers 1, 2 just behind the point E of the mass strands 1 ", 2" and extending over the entire length of the forming rollers, is of particular advantage in the production of granules from plastic masses of particular toughness. With its deep into the nip The cutting tool K ensures a separation of the mass strands or a destruction of the connective membranes which arise in the roller gap between the mass strands, almost as far as the generation point E of the mass strands.

Instead of the wedge-shaped cutting tool K, any other cutting tool could be provided, e.g. B. a cutting wire.

The described method or strand forming mill has the advantage that no skins can form between the mass strands, so that unrelated granules are produced.
