<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

Watch comprising a pawl transmitting to the counter wheel the movement of an oscillator and a time-setting device The present invention relates to a watch comprising a pawl transmitting the movement of an oscillator to the counter wheel and a setting device. on time.
This watch is characterized in that the pawl and the device are arranged in such a way that when the device is brought into the active position, it causes the displacement of a bridge carrying the oscillator and the pawl, the displacement of said bridge. producing a mechanical disconnection between the pawl and a toothed wheel actuated by the pawl and belonging to:
to the counter gear of the watch, so that the hands of the watch can then be turned in any direction without risking distorting the pawl, and in that the gear of the second hand remains constantly coupled with the cogwheel ries minute and hour hands, which ensures the exact relative position of the minute and second hand.
An electric watch is already known, the cog of which is driven in rotation by an electric motor. The time-setting device is arranged so that when it is brought into the active position, it causes a mechanical disconnection between the electric motor transmitting its movement to a counter gear and said gear, so that the minute hand and those hours can be turned in any direction.
It is immediately apparent that the invention relates to a completely different subject. It relates, in fact, to a watch comprising a pawl transmitting the movement of an oscillator to the counter wheel. As we know, such a ratchet is very delicate (fine spring)
and may be distorted if the wheel with which it is engaged turns in the opposite direction to the normal direction. A special problem therefore arises in watches of this type when it comes to setting the time to the hands. The object of the invention is precisely to solve this problem. Because, in the aforementioned known construction,
the cog is driven by means of a rotary electric motor and not by means of an oscillator, there could be no pawl for the stepping of a wolf tooth wheel. The result is all the more that there are no precautions to be taken to prevent the pawl from bending.
On the other hand, there is already a regulating mechanism (escapement) transmitting the movement of the balance to the gear train, combined with a control device. The latter is arranged so that when brought into the active position, it causes a mechanical disconnection between the escape mechanism and the gear train, so that the hands of the watch can be turned in any direction.
In this known construction, there is no pawl and, on the other hand, it is an ordinary movement in which the cog is not only a counter, but transmits the force of the barrel to the escapement. .
This is why means are provided for braking da second wheel at the moment when it ceases to be in engagement with the exhaust mobile. It goes without saying that in a watch with a motor barrel transmitting its force to the escapement by means of a cog, there cannot be a click of the type claimed, and consequently the whole problem solved by the inventor does not exist. not arise here.
Even the combination of the two known constructions described above in no way suggests the present invention.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, two embodiments of the watch which is the subject of the invention. Only what is necessary for understanding the invention has been shown in the drawing.

The fia. 1 is a plan view of the first embodiment, the time setting device being in the inactive position.
The fia. 2 is a similar view thereof, the time setting device being in the active position.
The fia. 3 and 4 are corresponding views of the second embodiment.
The watch -represented on the fia. 1 and 2 comprises a motor balance 1 whose oscillations are maintained by a known device, not shown, for example electric. The elhpse 2 of the balance plate 1 controls a fork 3 freely pivoting in 4 on a special bridge 5, on which the balance 1 is also mounted. The bridge 5 can pivot around a screw with span 6 taking in the plate 7. In the vicinity of its pivot 4, the fork 3 carries an impulse pawl 8, which is normally engaged with a magnifying tooth wheel 9.
This wheel 9 can be mounted on the axis of the seconds hand or on an auxiliary axis. A pawl of: retainer 10, fixed on the bridge 5, engages with the teeth of the wheel 9 to prevent it from turning back.
A time-setting rod 11, carrying an operating crown 12, is slidably mounted in plate 7 and can occupy two extreme stable positions, thanks to a spring-jumper 13 fixed to plate 7 and whose beak can .s'engage in one or the other of two notches 14, 15 of the -tige 11. The rod 11 has a third notch 16, in which is engaged the spout of a pull tab or lever 17 pivoting at 18 on the plate 7. At its end opposite the spout engaged in the notch 16 of the rod 11, the zipper 17 is articulated at 19 to a rod 20, the other end of which is pivoted at 21 on the bridge 5.
At its inner end, the rod 11 carries a time-setting pinion 22 capable of engaging with a time-setting transmission 23, the latter being connected in a manner not shown to the hands of the watch. . Also not shown, the seconds wheel 9 is connected to the minute wheel and to the hour wheel.
The operation is as follows Let us first suppose that @the rod 11 is in the depressed position, as shown in fig. 1. The setting device: the time is in inactive position, and the pinion 22 is out of engagement with the time-setting transmission 23. A rotation of the rod 11 around its axis therefore remains without Indeed, the spring-stautoir 13 remaining engaged in the notch 14.
The bridge 5 occupies the position shown on the fia. 1, in which the pawls 8 and 10 are engaged in the teeth of the wheel 9. When the balance wheel 1 oscillates, the ellipse 2 communicates to the fork 3 an oscillating movement, so that the impulse pawl 8 does not rotate the wheel 9, while the retaining pawl 10 prevents the Toue 9 from turning backwards.
To operate the time setting of the hands of the watch, the rod 11 is pulled outwards, so that it takes: the position shown on the fia. 2. During this movement, the spring-@ jumper 13 leaves the notch 14 and falls: in the notch 15, which ensures the new position @of the rod 11. At the same time, the zipper 17 swings counterclockwise. that its beak is driven by the notch 16 of the rod 11. As a result, the axis 19 moves down the fia. 1 and forces the rod 20 to tilt the bridge 5 around the screw 6. A stop 24 fixed in the plate 7 limits the movement of the bridge 5.
As the balance 1 and the fork 3 are mounted on the bridge 5, they move away from the wheel 9, as shown in the figure. 2, so that the pawls 8 and 10 come out of engagement with the wheel 9. At the same time, or rather when the rocking movement of the bridge 5 is practically completed, the pinion 22 engages with the setting return. hour 23.
If now we turn the rod 11 in one direction or the other, we actuate the return 23 and, consequently, the wheel 9 and the hands of the watch, which allows setting the time. When setting the time, we do not have to fear ide distorting the pawls 8 and 10, which are generally: made up of fine springs.
It should be noted that the cog of the second hand remains constantly coupled with the cog of the minute and hour hands, which assures the exact relative position of the minute and second hand.
To return the parts to the normal position, it suffices to push in the rod 11 again. The pull tab 17 is returned to its initial position by the fact that its beak is driven by the notch 16 of the rod 11, so that ' it acts this time on the bridge 5 by exerting a traction on @la rod 20.
According to a variant, the pull tab 17 could have a pilot which would be engaged in a groove of the rod 11.
The present invention also applies to other forms of oscillators (for example tuning forks, piezoelectric elements, magnetostrictive elements), in which the transmission to the train is effected by means of pawls.
The second embodiment, shown in FIGS. 3 and 4, shows the case of a tuning fork. This tuning fork 25 is fixed by means of a screw 26 and a foot 27 on a bridge 28 pivoted at 29 on the plate 7. The branch 25a of the tuning fork 25 carries an impulse pawl 30, which is normally engaged with a wolf tooth wheel 31, which is connected to a second wheel, not shown. A retaining pawl 32, fixed to the bridge 28, is engaged in the teeth of the wheel 31, to prevent it from moving back.
A time-setting rod 11, similar to the glue of the first embodiment, can slide in the plate 7, its two extreme positions being ensured by the engagement of a spring-jumper 13 in one or more the other of the notches 14, 15 of the rod 11. The rod 11 has a third notch, 16, in which is engaged the spout of a first lever 33, with two arms, pivoting at 34 on the plate 7. At its opposite end - to the spout engaged in the notch 16 of the rod 11, the lever 33 is articulated at 35 to a second
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
lever 36: the other end of which is pivoted at 37 on the bridge 28.
Between the notches 15 and 16, the rod 11 carries a time-setting pinion 22 capable of engaging with a n-time-setting reference 23, the latter being connected to the hands of the watch.
In the position of the parts shown in fig. 3, the rod 11 is depressed, so that the pinion 22 is out of engagement with the return 23. A rotation of the rod 11 has no effect, the jump spring 13 remaining engaged in the notch 14.
The bridge 28 occupies a position such that the pawls 30 and 32 are engaged in the teeth of the wheel 31. When the tuning fork vibrates, its vibrations being maintained by a known device, not shown, the impulse pawl 30 does not rotate at not the wheel 31, while the retaining pawl 32 prevents the wheel 31 from turning back.
If the rod 11 is pulled outwards, it takes the position shown in fig. 4. The lever 33 swings around the axis 34, because its nose is engaged in the notch 16 of the rod 11, and consequently moves the lever 36 to the left, so that the bridge 28 swings in the direction clockwise around screw 29, this movement being limited by the base of jumper spring 13, forming a stop. It can be seen that the pawls 30 and 32 have thus moved away from the wheel 31 and that, on the other hand, the pinion 22 has come into engagement with the: time setting return 23.
If the rod 11 is rotated, the return 23 and the watch hands are actuated, which allows the time to be set without risk of distorting the delicate clicks 30 and 32. Here also, the The cog of the second hand remains constantly coupled with the cog of the minute and hour hands.
If one pushes back the -tige 11, the bridge 28 is returned to its original position by means of the levers 33 and 36, this movement of the bridge 28 can also be facilitated by a return spring.
In the two embodiments described, it is important that: the arrangement of the time-setting device is such that the release of the pawls is carried out before the pinion 22 engages with the setting return Hour 23. It is thus ensured that the hands can be turned without any risk of distorting the pawls of the mechanism transmitting the movement of the oscillator to the counter gear.
According to a variant not shown, the pinion 22 could be replaced by a part without teeth and the crumb return: at the hour 23 could have a bead, for example made of elastomer or plastic, allowing it to be driven by friction.
In the variant described above, the part without teeth replacing the pinion 22 could be constituted by an elongated cylinder which would remain constantly facing said bead, but could be raised radially, under the action of an appropriate mechanism, to disengage from the bead during axial movement of the time-setting rod 11.
Instead of being carried by the time-setting reference, the bead could also be provided on the part replacing the pinion 22, the return 23 then being replaced by a disc.
