Vehicle alternator The invention relates to an alternator which can be used for operation on vehicles, in particular motor vehicles, with a voltage regulator which is connected to the alternator with the aid of a multi-core cable connection and a multi-pole coupling device consisting of a plug and socket.
In such alternators, the entire load current supplied by the alternator and supplied to the sometimes very low-resistance loads should not be passed through the control device, because the load current would lead to considerable heat development in the controller and therefore to control inaccuracies. In addition, a device must be provided between the output terminals of the alternator and the battery working with it, which prevents the battery from discharging via the windings of the alternator when the alternator is stationary or insufficiently excited. A semi-conductor rectifier is particularly suitable for this purpose, but for reasons of its high temperature sensitivity it must be arranged in the cooling air flow of the alternator.
In addition, in the case of restricted installation conditions, it is desirable to attach the control device separately from the alternator at a location that appears suitable for this purpose, for example on the bulkhead of the motor vehicle. These tasks can be solved in a simple manner in an alternator of the type described enclosed when one of the two coupling parts is attached to the housing of the alternator. A particularly expedient arrangement is obtained when, according to a further embodiment of the invention, the coupling part seated on the alternator is designed as a support body for an assembly belonging to the control device that can be separately mounted.
This can include the rectifier through which the load current of the alternator flows and a low-resistance resistor in series with this, also through which the load current flows, at which a control voltage required for current limitation or current regulation is generated and fed to the controller via the cable connection.
2weckmässigerweise the coupling part seated on the alternator is arranged over a cutout in the alternator housing and provided with an integrally formed extension that protrudes through the cutout into the interior of the alternator housing and carries the rectifier and the low-resistance resistor on its section located in the interior of the housing . These two switching elements are then cooled by the flow of cooling air from the alternator and can therefore be made much smaller.
Further details and expedient developments according to the invention are described and explained in more detail below with reference to two exemplary embodiments.
1 shows a motor vehicle alternator in longitudinal section with a connected voltage regulator, FIG. 2 shows a cross section through the alternator according to FIG. 1 and FIG. 3 shows the electrical circuit diagram of the alternator according to FIGS. 1 and 2; FIG. 4 shows a cross section through another alternator serving as a second exemplary embodiment, and FIG. 5 shows a radial top view of the alternator according to FIG. 4.
The alternator according to FIG. 1 intended for operation on a motor vehicle, not shown, contains in its tubular housing 10 an armature 12 which can be driven via a belt pulley 11 and on whose shaft 13 a fan wheel 14 is seated. In the end shield 15 arranged between the fan wheel 14 and the belt pulley 11, openings 16 are arranged. Through this the cooling air flow indicated at L is carried away from the fan wheel 14 to the outside.
The cooling air flow passes through an inlet openings 17 in the second bearing plate 18, which is arranged in the vicinity of the collector 19, into the interior of the housing.
The alternator is intended to supply a buffer battery of 12.6 V, indicated at 20 in FIG. 3, with sufficient charging current and also to supply a load current JL to consumers not shown, which can be connected in parallel to the battery, but which is one due to the size the maximum value specified for the alternator So that the alternator is able to deliver a voltage that is as constant as possible despite the fluctuating drive speeds and the different high loading stung, a controller in Fig. 1 and 3 at 21 is provided which contains an electromagnetic relay.
This has two windings, namely a voltage winding 22 and a current winding 23 and a pair of contacts 24, 25, which is closed in the idle state and which is switched into the excitation circuit of the alternator. The excitation circuit of the alternator leads from the plus brush designated in Fig. 3 with b through an excitation winding 26, not shown in Fig. 1 and a resistor 27 connected in series with this to ground and from there to the minus terminal denoted by a.
The normally closed contacts of the regulator short-circuit the series resistor 27 until the excitation current that then arises and passes through the excitation winding 26 causes a sufficiently large output voltage between the alternator brushes a and b when the alternator is driven at a sufficiently high speed.
The voltage regulator is connected to the alternator via a four-wire cable 28, which is connected with a sleeve piece 29 to a connector piece 30 fastened according to the invention to the alternator housing, which together with the sleeve 29 forms a releasable coupling device. The plug part shown in more detail in Figure 2 is pressed from insulating material and serves as a support body for a separately mountable assembly that belongs to the control device.
The assembly includes a according to the circuit diagram of FIG. 3 between the plus brush b and the plus pole of the battery 20 arranged silicon diode 32, the discharge electrode is designed as a screw bolt 33 and is used to attach a connecting line to the battery 20 is not provided. The other electrode of the diode 32 is led by a line 34 to a connecting wire 35 which, together with a plug pin 36, is seated in the pressed insulating material of the plug 30.
In addition to the plug pin 36, the coupling part 30 also contains three further plug pins 37, 38 and 39, each of which is also connected to a line piece which ends at the lower side of the plug body protruding towards the housing interior. A control resistor 42 is arranged between the line piece 35 and the connecting wire 34 of the diode 32 connected to it on the one hand and a connecting wire 40 connected to the plug pin 37 so that it is swept by the air flow generated during operation of the alternator.
This control resistor was in series with the reverse current prevent the diode 32 between the plus brush b and the terminal formed by the bolt 33 of the diode 32 is switched on. As FIG. 3 shows, two cable cores 44 and 45 of the four-core cable 28 lead to the current coil 23 of the relay 21. A semiconductor resistor 46 is connected in series with the current coil, which is made of highly doped, a pn junction containing germanium and a has a strong kink in its current voltage line at 0.3 V.
This semiconductor causes only a small control current to flow through the current coil 23, as long as the voltage drop UL generated by the load current JL at the control resistor 42 remains less than 0.3 V, but allows a strong control current to flow if this value is exceeded. In adaptation to the maximum value of the load current JL determined by the size of the alternator, the resistor 42 has a value of 0.01 Ohm and therefore supplies the voltage drop of 0.3 V required for the current control use at a load current of 30 A.
The control current then flowing through the semiconductor resistor 46 and the current coil 23 supports the magnetic field generated by the voltage coil 22 of the relay and causes the output voltage of the alternator to be the value of the output voltage which is all the more below its target value of 12.6 V. the further the load current JL threatens to rise above its maximum permissible value.
In the same way as the control resistor 42 is the series resistor 27 with the excitation winding 23, which is periodically short-circuited by the contacts 24, 25 of the relay and is brought into effect again when the target voltage is exceeded, on the against the interior of the alternator housing 10 facing end face of the connector housing 30 arranged and exposed to the cooling air flow of the alternator.
While in the exemplary embodiment according to FIGS. 1 to 3 the plug part is made entirely of insulating material and the diode 32 can therefore be fastened in this plug part without special insulation, in the exemplary embodiment according to FIGS. 4 and 5 a plug housing 60 pressed from metal is used is provided on which a reverse current preventing silicon diode 61 is attached in the same way as the diode 32 of the first embodiment.
The diode 61 has an approximately square foot 62 serving as a discharge electrode, which is clamped against the connector housing 60 with rivets 64, with an only 0.05 mm thick mica plate 63 in between, so that a very good heat transfer results.
In this way, such a small thermal contact resistance from the diode housing to the connector housing 60 can be achieved that only about 0.5.0 QW power loss occurs and the diode at the maximum permissible current is only 20 C above the temperature of the alternator housing Temperature he warms.
As in the previously described Ausführungsbei game, the connector part contains four connector pins 74, 75, 76, 77, which, however, unlike the previously described embodiment enclosed, protrude quite far beyond their insulating body 78 pressed into the metallic connector housing in the direction of the alternator shaft.
To utilize the cooling air flow of the alternator, a control resistor 8, which is claimed in the same way as the control resistor 39, is attached to the underside of the plug part and connected to the supply electrode 81 going to the diode 61. The special part before the connector training described allows the components required for the connection and operation of the controller to be attached to this coupling piece. For volume production, this results in an undisturbed assembly line, since in this case the assembly of the alternator can be done separately from the structure of the plug part and the regulating device.
In addition, the additional cooling of the switching elements sitting on the coupling part enables a significantly higher load or a correspondingly reduced dimensioning.
