Description

   L'invention a pour but de permettre l'obtention de pièces de matière thermoplastique en deux ou plusieurs couleurs, particulièrement de pièces de faible masse ou de faible volume, au moyen d'une seule opération de moulage;

  Process for the manufacture of multicolored molded parts of thermoplastic material
 and extrusion equipment for carrying out the process
 The molding of parts of homogeneous thermoplastic polymerized material only makes it possible to produce parts of a uniform color corresponding to the color of the material used for the molding.

   The object of the invention is to make it possible to obtain parts of thermoplastic material in two or more colors, particularly parts of low mass or of low volume, by means of a single molding operation;
 It will be understood that the invention can have many applications, in particular for giving a particular decorative or distinctive appearance to various articles. The distinctive aspect could, for example, be sought for an advertising purpose for the wider distribution of multicolored articles or for a signaling purpose, for example to differentiate any products or objects with which a multicolored article made of thermoplastic material can be associated.

   The method which the invention comprises is characterized in that it consists in forming a multicolored drop of colored thermoplastic materials by simultaneous extrusion of several juxtaposed colored materials, in collecting this drop when it reaches the desired volume and in molding it immediately by pressure. in a matrix which gives the part its final shape while maintaining the general distribution of colors.

   According to a particular implementation of the method of the invention, the variously colored constituent parts are extruded in line at the extrusion orifice which is given an elongated shape, for example elliptical, the materials of different colors succeeding each other in the direction the length of the extrusion orifice. An elongated drop is thus formed, for example in the shape of an ellipsoid, which is collected as indicated as soon as it has the desired volume in order then to mold the part to its final shape.

   The extrusion apparatus which the invention also comprises, is characterized in that it comprises an extrusion nozzle with channels which converge towards the extrusion orifice and supplied by heated tubes intended to be filled with materials. plastics of different colors, each of these tubes being arranged to be supplied by the progression of a single-colored plastic rod.

   The constituent materials may be of the same type in ne. differing only by the incorporation of pigments capable of coloring them variously. However, if it was considered useful, it would be possible to obtain composite parts whose elementary materials would be of different natures but capable of joining together satisfactorily.

   The attached schematic drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the extrusion apparatus for implementing the process of the invention.

   Fig. 1 is a longitudinal section of the end of an extrusion apparatus for obtaining drops in three colors, the section being made by the horizontal axial plane passing through the major axis of the elongated extrusion orifice.

   Fig. 2 is a corresponding elevational view, and
 fig. 3 shows a part molded from the drop of FIGS. 1 and 2, and shows how the color distribution of the molded part corresponds to the distribution of these colors in the drop used for the molding of the part.

   An injection nozzle 1 pierced with three channels 2, 3, 4 which converge at the extrusion orifice 5 and are supplied by three tubes 6-7-8 juxtaposed in an extrusion pot 9 inside which the tubes are heated by any suitable means not shown (circulation of oil or heating by electric resistances).

   It was assumed that the tubes 6-7-8 and the channels 2-3-4 are in a horizontal plane containing the major axis of the elongated extrusion port 5 at the exit of which the three extruded materials join in horizontal alignment. to form a drop 10 in the general shape of an ellipsoid of revolution elongated horizontally. As a result, the three colors of the material from the tubes 6-7-8 are found horizontally aligned in the drop 10 at 11-12-13 as shown in fig. 1. Each of the tubes 6-7-8 can be supplied by the progression of a corresponding plastic rod.

   In fig. 3, there is shown by way of example a part formed by pressure in a die from the drop 10. In this example, it was assumed that the part is a stopper for a bottle and, as the drop 10 was collected flat and pressed perpendicular to its length, the distribution of the three colors is preserved in the part on which we have indicated in 14-15-16 the three variously colored parts, separated in the figure by broken lines.
