Une forme d'exécution de l'invention est ci-après décrite, à titre d'exemple en référence au dessin an nexé, dans lequel La fig. 1 est une vue schématique, en coupe axiale, de ladite forme d'exécution de l'appareil de triage dans laquelle les grains sont montrés plus gros et plus écartés que dans la réalité .afin de faci- liter la lecture du dessin;
Apparatus for sorting granular products The problem of classifying the grains of a mixture, according to their density or grain size, frequently arises.
Numerous devices have been proposed for this purpose, among which a certain number use the phenomenon of de-fluidization.
We know that if; we put in a tube a mixture of solid products to be separated and if we make circulate in the tube an ascending stream of fluid at a speed such that the mixture is sufficiently expanded for relative movements between its grains can be produced, that is to say when it is in the fluidized state, it occurs, after a certain time, for a suitable speed, a classification of the constituents of the mixture,
one of the constituents gathers at the top of the tube and the other at the bottom. In an intermediate region, there is a mixture of the two constituents.
The present invention relates to an apparatus using this phenomenon with a view to ensuring stable operation of installations with automatic regulation.
This apparatus is characterized by the fact that it comprises two compartments separated by a wall and arranged so that they communicate with each other at their lower part, the introduction of the material and the sorting taking place in a first compartment substantially at mid-point. - height thereof, each compartment comprising an outlet for the evacuation of one of the constituents of the mixture to be sorted,
the sorting fluid being a liquid introduced into the two compartments through a grid located at the base of the apparatus, so as to produce in said compartments a permanent fluidized state allowing relative movements between the grains with a view to their classification, the materials being maintained at a higher level in the first compartment than in the second, the difference between the two levels being such that the apparent weight per unit of section is the same in both compartments.
Under these conditions, an intermediate zone is produced in the region where the materials are introduced (preferably at about mid-height of the compartment) comprising a mixture of materials in which the sorting takes place, with release of the material. 'one of the constituents towards the top of the compartment, where it is evacuated by the outlet -provided for this purpose, and one, bringing together the other constituent towards the bottom of the compartment,
where it passes into the second compartment through the communication passage formed at the base of the partition wall and is driven upwards this: second compartment, where it is discharged through the outlet provided for this purpose.
In most cases, it is the grains: heavy or coarse that collect in the second compartment where they come out at the lowest output level, while the light or fine grains come out in the first compartment at the lowest output level. high.
An embodiment of the invention is described below, by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing, in which FIG. 1 is a schematic view, in axial section, of said embodiment of the sorting apparatus in which the grains are shown to be larger and more spaced than in reality, in order to facilitate reading of the drawing;
fig. 2 is a schematic view of this device in perspective and with partial cutouts. The device consists of two cylindrical compartments 1 and 2 separated by a wall 3 and a grid 4. These two compartments communicate with each other on the one hand at their base, immediately above the grid at 5 by an orifice. annular, and on the other hand to their upper part in 6.
The introduction of the material to be sorted, comprising for example two constituents Mi (heavy) and M2 (light) is carried out at 8 in compartment 1.
In D1 the discharge outlet of the compartment 1 through which the light component is discharged and in D2 the outlet of the compartment 2 through which the heavy component is discharged.
The sorting fluid consisting of water in the present example is introduced at 7 along arrow f and discharged through the weir D which regulates a constant level in the apparatus.
The operation of the device is as follows: A flow rate Q is introduced at 7 into chamber 9 which is distributed through the grid 4 into two flow rates q1 and q2 at substantially equal speeds flowing respectively in the two compartments 1 and 2 .
The flow rate Q introduced under the grid is chosen such that the flow speeds of the flow rates q1 and q2 are a little higher than the minimum fluidization speed of the heavy component and consequently more. higher than the fluidization rate of the light component, without, however, exceeding an acceptable upper limit.
The materials in the two compartments are thus maintained in a state of fluidization and in a degree of expansion such that relative movements between grains can occur.
Under these conditions, there is formed in compartment 1, in the vicinity of the introduction of the materials, an intermediate sorting zone 9 comprising a mixture of the two constituents M1 and M2, respectively heavy and light.
From this intermediate zone, where the relative movement of the grains with respect to each other takes place, the light ones rise towards the upper part of compartment 1 where they are discharged through the weir Dl.
Heavy products collect at the bottom of compartment 1 and pass through passage 5 into compartment 2 where they. rise upwards and are discharged through the weir D2.
It can be seen that compartment 1, called the sorting compartment, contains the two constituents of the mixture with the light upward, an intermediate mixing zone in the middle and the heavy downward. On the other hand, compartment 2 contains only heavy.
The level hl of the materials in compartment 1 is higher than the level h2 of the material in compartment 2, because the apparent specific weight is significantly lower in the top of this compartment 1 than in compartment 2 and therefore requires , for the balancing of the two columns, a difference in level.
The weirs Dl and D2 will therefore be set respectively at these levels hl and h2. In fact, in a liquid fluidized medium, the porosity or vacuum index, and consequently the degree of expansion, varies greatly with the speed of the liquid.
As a result, the fluidized bed formed by light or fine grains, in the upper part of the sorting compartment, is more expanded than the other fluidized beds formed in part by mixtures of grains (intermediate sorting zone) and by heavy or large grains (base of the sorting compartment and the whole of the second compartment).
If the weirs were not set at these hl and h2 levels, the apparatus would not operate satisfactorily.
If, in fact, the difference in height of the spillways were too great, the apparent weight per unit of section in the first compartment (including the spillway, for example, would be too high) would be higher than in the second compartment, which pro would mean a decrease in the intermediate zone, as more heavy grains would be transferred from the lower part of the first compartment into the second through the orifice at the base of the partition wall.
As soon as this intermediate zone is thus found in the vicinity of the orifice at the base of the partition wall, the light ones would pass with the heavy ones into the second compartment, and the sorting would be defective.
If, on the other hand, the difference in height of the cutters were too low, the apparent weight per unit of section in the first compartment (for which the cutout would be too low, for example) would be lower than in the second compartment, which would cause an elevation of the intermediate zone because less heavy grains would be transferred from the lower part of the first compartment into the second.
As soon as this intermediate zone would thus be in the vicinity of the weir of the first compartment, heavy goods would be evacuated with the light ones via this outlet and sorting would no longer be suitable.
In the borderline case where the weirs were arranged at substantially the same height, the surfaces of the fluidized beds would be at the same level in the two compartments, and the apparent weight per unit of section in the second compartment would be greater than the apparent weight per unit of section in the first compartment, so that the two columns would be unbalanced.
This imbalance would cause a drop in the level in the second compartment, so that its weir would no longer discharge and the apparatus would discharge, through the weir of the first compartment, the mixture as introduced, without the possibility of sorting.
This is why the discharge levels are well determined and are such that their difference corresponds to the balance of the apparent weights per unit of section in the two columns and this well in tension for a suitable position of the intermediate zone between the lower edge of the separation wall and the weir of the first compartment.
Of course, the levels as defined will vary slightly around the determined values, but cannot deviate from them significantly without harming the proper functioning of the apparatus.
The device operates continuously without special supervision, the intermediate zone being automatically maintained in a stable position regardless of the percentage of heavy or light introduced.
To facilitate the initial adjustment of the device, the two compartments 1 and 2 can be fitted with outlets Dl and D .., adjustable in height by plates 10 and 11. This would also make it possible to adjust the device in progress. of operation, in the event that the fluidization characteristics of the materials in sorting would vary.
It would also be possible, for the same purpose, to replace the weirs by two discharge conduits provided with means for adjusting the pressure drop, starting from each compartment, at a certain distance below the probable level of the materials.
Under these conditions, it is possible, by increasing or decreasing the pressure drop in these discharge ducts, respectively raise or lower the level in the corresponding column, so as to give it the desired height so that the ap parent weights per unit of section of the two columns are balanced.
Hereinafter, by way of example, the characteristics of an apparatus used for the densimetric sorting of a mixture constituted by a first product of density 2.65, of average particle size, average diameter 180 microns and a second product of density 4.25 of average particle size, average diameter 175 mi crons.
The minimum fluidization speed of the heavy product being 0.05 cm / sec, we take in the two branches 1 and 2 of the device a speed of the order of 0.1 cm / sec to be sure to always be in fluidization.
Under these conditions, for an average level of the intermediate zone placed at a height of 34 cm from the grid, a perfect sorting of the two products, heavy and light, is obtained for a wedging of the weir in the first compartment at a height of hl = 68 cm and a wedge of the weir in the second compartment at a height of h. = 49 cm.
The apparatus described by allowing continuous extraction of solid materials, can be used in processing operations in which sorting is not the main purpose, for example leaching a crushed sylvinite ore treated in fluidization by a sodium chloride mother liquor.
The fine waste rock, quickly depleted of its potassium chloride, is discharged through the upper weir, while the coarse, slower to flow, are discharged through the lower weir, after a longer path which allows them to stay longer in contact with the treatment liquid.
