Process for the production of decamethylenediamine
The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of decamethylenediamine, starting from 1-chloro-4-cyano-2-butene via 1,8-dicyano-2,6-octadiene as an intermediate.
A process for the preparation of 1,8-dicyan-2,6-octadiene by a doubling reaction which is carried out with 1-chloro-4-cyano-2-butene using Ni (CO) 4 is already known.
The reaction takes place according to the following equation:
EMI1.1
It has now been found that the mentioned doubling reaction is carried out more advantageously by means of iron powder (e.g. iron powder obtained mechanically by porphyrization or by means of iron powder obtained by reduction of iron oxides) or by means of iron-nickel powder. It has also been shown that the reaction takes place with or without activators, it being possible to use nickel or cobalt salts as activators.
It was also found that the quality of the iron powder used and the presence or absence of an activator exert a certain influence on the course of the reaction, the yield and the quantitative proportions of the various isomers described below in the reaction product.
The most suitable are varieties of reduced iron with a low apparent density, the optimal value of which is in the range of 1.5-2.
The best achievable yields are achieved with iron, which is obtained by reducing pyrite slags that have passed a sieve of 16,000 mesh / cm2 in a hydrogen stream at a temperature of about 600au; this iron is also very cheap.
As far as the use of catalysts is concerned, an excellent advantage is achieved if nickel salts, in particular the chloride, are added to the reaction mass. These increase the reaction rate, which enables the doubling reaction to be carried out at low temperature (4060 ° C.), the reaction proceeding in the direction of straight-chain dicyano-octadiene, while the formation of by-products is inhibited.
The nature of the solvent or diluent used also has a certain influence on the process. Of the solvents or diluents investigated, aliphatic nitriles of low molecular weight (especially acetonitrile) proved to be the most suitable. However, other solvents of a polar nature, e.g. B. ethyl alcohol, a very good conversion of the cyanogen chloride into linear dicyanoctadiene.
When treating l-chloro-4-cyano-2-butene with iron powder, two isomers a and II) are usually formed:
EMI2.1
1,8-l> licyan-2,6-octadiene, 2-vinyl-1,6-dicyan-4-hexene
Under special conditions, only 1,8-dicyan-2,6-octadiene is formed, this compound being obtained in yields of more than 90%.
If the dicyanoctadiene thus obtained is hydrogenated in a methyl alcoholic solution in the presence of ammonia using Raney nickel, the desired decamethylenediamine is obtained according to the equation:
EMI2.2
After removing the NH3 and the methanol at ordinary pressure, the residue can be rectified in vacuo and the decamethylenediamine is obtained.
The present invention now relates to a process for the preparation of decamethylenediamine, which is characterized in that l-chloro-4-cyano-2-butene is mixed with iron or iron-nickel powder in the presence of acetonitrile or ethyl alcohol as a moderate solvent Heated temperature, the resulting 1,8-dicyan-2,6octadiene is separated off and hydrogenated in methyl alcoholic solution in the presence of ammonia using Raney nickel.
example 1
118 g (1.02 mol) of 1-chloro-4-cyano-2-butene, 32 g (0.575 mol) of iron powder and 230 cm3 of acetonitrile are heated for 8 hours in a CO9 atmosphere at 850 ° C. After concentration of the reaction mixture to a small volume, treating the residue with dilute hydrochloric acid and extracting with ether, 25 g of cyanogen chloride which has not reacted, 42 g of a mixture of 1,8 dicyan-2,6-octadiene and 2-vinyl 1, 6- dicyan-4-hexene with a boiling point of 130 to 1400 C at 0.2 mm Hg and 10 g of a nitrile with the empirical formula C15H17N5 (boiling point 210-215 "C at 0.2 mm Hg).
The yield of the cyanogen compounds based on the amount of cyanogen chloride used is 63.80 /,. The dicyanoctadiene mixture contains about 400/0 of the dicyanoctadiene I with a straight-chain structure.
200 g of dicyanoctadiene, which was obtained above, are dissolved in a mixture of 400 cm3 of methanol and 200 g of anhydrous NH5 and then hydrogenated at 90 ° C. using 10 g of Raney nickel. After removing NH3 and methanol at ordinary pressure, the residue is rectified under a vacuum of 10 mm Hg. 174 g of decamethylenediamine are obtained (boiling point 140 ° C. at 10 mm Hg).
Example 2
115.5 g of cyanogen chloride, 230 cm3 of acetonitrile, 51 g of reduced iron (obtained from pyrite slags, with an iron content of 750/0 and an apparent density of 1.5) and 18 g of NiC12 6 H2O are heated to 50550 C for 7 hours with stirring heated. After filtering and removing the acetonitrile under a vacuum of 200 mm Hg, the residue is taken up with dilute sulfuric acid, two layers being formed. After separating off with heat and evaporation under vacuum, 3 g of unreacted dichlorocyanobutene and 70.5 g of dicyanoctadiene (solidification temperature 430 ° C.) are obtained from the organic layer, the latter in a yield of 910/0 with respect to the used chlorocyanobutene.
The dicyanoctadiene obtained in this way is processed further as described in Example 1 to give decamethylenediamine.
Example 3

Proceeding as above gives 1.7 g of unreacted cyanogen chloride and 67.6 g of dicyanoctadiene (solidification temperature 429 ° C.), the latter in a yield of 85% in relation to the cyanogen chloride consumed. The dicyanoctadiene obtained in this way is processed further as described in Example 1 to give decamethylenediamine.
Example 4
115.5 g of cyanogen chloride, 230 cm3 of anhydrous ethanol, 6.5 g of anhydrous NiCl2 and 51 g of an iron-nickel powder mixture obtained by reducing the corresponding hydroxides with a bulk density of 1.46, an iron content of 70 a / o and one Nickel content of 7 7 / o is heated to 60 650 C for 7 hours. By proceeding as above, 1 g of unreacted cyanogen chloride and 61 g of dicyanoctadiene (solidification temperature 39 ° C.) are obtained; the yield is 76 / o based on the cyanogen chloride consumed. The dicyanoctadiene thus obtained is further converted into decamethylenediamine as described in Example 1 processed.
