Method for the densimetric classification of ores, hydrot sieves for the implementation of this method and application of this method The present invention relates to a method for the densimetric classification of ores by means of a shaking hydrot sieve, in particular of poor ores, by example the poor oolitic iron ores of Lorraine and the old waste rock from the densimetric veries.
Density grading of ores by means of a shaking sieve is well known in the mineral processing art.
Such a sieve is well suited for the treatment of poor ores which lend themselves to densimetric classification, that is to say the gangue and the mineral have markedly different densities. However, it has the drawback of producing a large portion of poor mixes which require subsequent processing, and poor recovery of minerals finer than 1.5 mm.
On the other hand, its use has been simplified by the elimination of the granulometric classification and the prior settling, the ore from 0 to 8, 10 or 12 mm being directly processed, which also allowed a certain increase in the proportion of concentrates and steriles and consequently a decrease in mixtures.
The object of the invention is a method for the densimetric classification of ores, in which the ore is passed through a shaking hydrot sieve, and the concentrate is collected, characterized in that it is returned, after having been crushed, to the minus part of the mixture at the entrance of the sieve.
The invention also relates to a hydro-shaking sieve for carrying out this process. This screen comprises a fixed elongated box provided with transverse vertical partitions defining several compartments, a screen mounted in said box above said partitions, and means for supporting and actuating said screen comprising a shaft driven in rotation,
arranged transversely under the box and carrying a cam, two longitudinal levers arranged on either side of said shaft, articulated together, cooperating with said cam and mounted fixed respectively on two transverse shafts, two pairs of short levers mounted fixed respectively at the ends of the two shafts,
two pairs of vertical rods articulated on the one hand on said short levers and on the other hand on transverse bars supporting said screen, two connecting rods each articulated on the one hand at one of the ends of one of the bars and of on the other hand to a pivot mounted adjustable along a sector on the box, a stop limiting downward movement of the levers, and means for adjusting the vertical position of said stop.
It is characterized in that said adjustment means comprise a yoke carrying said stopper at its center, and provided with a vertical axis thread at each of its ends, two threaded rods screwed into each thread and fixed respectively on each side wall of the box so as to be axially fixed and angularly movable, and means of simultaneous rotation of said threaded rods, which have the effect of imparting to said yoke a vertical displacement parallel to itself.
Finally, the invention relates to the application of said method to the classification of an ore whose particles have a size of less than 12 mm.
The drawing illustrates schematically, by way of example, several implementations of the process according to the invention, and represents, also by way of example, an embodiment of the hydrotamis that the invention comprises.
Figs. 1, 2, 3 and 4 each illustrate one of the particular implementations of the method according to the invention. Fig. 5 is a longitudinal section of said embodiment.
Fig. 6 is a partial cross section following 6-6 of FIG. 5.
Fig. 7 is a partial and enlarged cross section, taken on 7-7 of FIG. 5, showing a detail. We will first of all describe the setting up shown schematically in FIG. 1.
The general ore, consisting of pyrite with an average sulfur content of 35%, crushed to a size between 0 and 12 mm in roller mills, arrives in a feed hopper 1, then is fed at a rate of 30-36 t / h, by means of an endless conveyor belt. 2, at the inlet of a hydro-shaking sieve 3, described below with reference to FIGS. 5 to 7 and 7.5 m long.
This sieve is also supplied with water at a flow rate of 2.5 to 4 t / h. The opening of the holes of the mobile screen can be variable according to the compartments, the maximum opening being equal to about 1.5 times the maximum grain size, i.e. 18 mm, and the minimum opening being equal to half of this. value. By way of example, this opening could be 10, 12, 16 and 18 mm, or even 10, 15, 18 and 25 mm, going from the inlet to the outlet of the screen.
A filter bed 7.5 to 10 cm thick comprises a lower layer, formed of cast iron or steel spheres, an intermediate layer formed of grains of rich pyrites in process and an upper layer formed of grains of mixed. . The pulsation frequency of the screen is 180-198 strokes / minute, which corresponds to a speed of 60-66 t / m of the motor shaft carrying the three-point cam.
The vertical component of the movement of the sieve is about 18 mm, and the horizontal component of this movement, which determines the advance speed of the ore and its thickness on the bed, is of the order of 10 to 18 mm . The adaptation of these various variables to each particular case is within the abilities of those skilled in the art.
A concentrate is removed from the first four compartments of the sieve, the sulfur content of which varies from about 50% to 47% from the first to the fourth compartment, so that the average sulfur content of the concentrate is of the order of 49% (the The theoretical neur, corresponding to FeSz, is 53.3 % of S).
A mixture is removed from the fifth and sixth compartments, which is combined with part of the refusal as described below. From the seventh compartment, not covered by the screen, the residue is removed and treated in a vibrating screen 4 to separate it into three classes, 8-12 mm, 3-8 mm and 0-3 mm, respectively. The intermediate class, which contains only 2.5 to 5% of the pyrite present in the raw material, is discharged upon rejection. The upper class contains grains of pyrite which could not pass through the filter bed due to their shape and the lower class contains grains of pyrite which, due to their shape, were entrained in the seventh compartment.
These two classes of the residue are therefore treated again in the same sieve 3. For this purpose, these two classes of the residue are combined with the mixture, which is entrained by a quantity of water equal to twice its volume, and the whole is sent with the aid of a bucket elevator 5, into a roller mill dres 6, which is arranged to grind this mixture into grains of 0 to 2-3 mm. The ground mixture is returned to the inlet of the screen 3 to be treated again at the same time as the raw material.
The muddy water, which overflows from the weir placed at the terminal end of the screen 3, is conducted in two conical settling tanks 7 made of masonry, which could be replaced by thick Dorr sisseurs. The weir is adjustable and its adjustment determines the height of the water level in the sieve.
The flow of muddy water is approximately equal to two thirds of the total flow of water admitted into the sieve 3, the remaining third serving to discharge all the products settling in the sieve box. The clarified water, which overflows from the settling boxes 7 and which hardly contains any sulfur, is discharged, and the thickened sludge is removed from the bottom of the settling boxes and is returned to the inlet of the sieve 3, by means of 'a centrifugal slurry pump of the Wilfrey PF type (not shown) and it is added to the raw all-round, as well as to the mixed and to the refusal returned to the circuit.
Thus, this setting is simple and inexpensive; the results obtained are clearly superior to those of the already known processes.
In the setting illustrated in FIG. 2, and which is suitable for ores which are difficult to process, such as oolith, or for poor ores, a shaking hydrot sieve 3 described with reference to FIGS. 5 to 7. The hopper 1 and the feed conveyor belt 2 are similar to those described with reference to FIG. 1, as well as the characteristics of the sieve, and the feed rates of raw material and water.
The concentrate is extracted from the first four compartments of the sieve 3. The mixture, coming from the fifth and sixth compartments, is received in a bucket elevator box 9, with all the residue coming from the seventh compartment and the muddy water. overflowing through the overflow of the sieve 3. The basin 9 also receives the mixed and the muddy water from a second hydrotamis 10, which is similar to the sieve 3, but which is smaller, its length being only 3 m.
The muddy water which overflows from the basin 9 is led into two settling boxes 7, similar to those described above, the clarified water is evacuated and the thickened mud is withdrawn from the bottom of the boxes 7 and returned to screen head 3 using a centrifugal pump (not shown).
The material which is deposited at the bottom of the basin 9 is taken up by a bucket conveyor 5 and passes through a roller mill 6, which reduces it to the dimension 0-3 mm. This crusher could be replaced by a hammer crusher. The crushed material falls onto a 4 'vibrating screen, which divides it into two classes of 2-3 mm and 0-2 mm, respectively. The 0-2 mm class is returned to the inlet of the screen 3. The 2-3 mm class feeds the screen 10, the first three compartments of which produce a commercial concentrate, of a quality equal or only slightly inferior to that of the concentrate. produced by the sieve 3.
The fourth and fifth compartments produce a mixture which, as mentioned, is received in the bucket elevator box 9, and the seventh compartment produces a waste which is discharged.
As screen 10 processes material with a grain size significantly less than the maximum grain size of the raw material processed by screen 3, the size of the openings of the moving screen and the grain size of the filter bed are of course. reduced in the same proportion with respect to the sieve 3. The water feeding the sieve 10 comes from the box 9 and accompanies the treated solid material in the sieve 10. Its quantity corresponds approximately to the double of the solid material ad put in the sieve 10.
This form of implementation, applied to binary or sometimes tertiary ores, lending itself to densimetric classification, gives results at least equal to those of floating.
The implementation illustrated in fig. 3 is a variant of the previous one. When the treated ore tends to fragment into very small grains and this has a significant value or when the grinding installation is such as to produce a large proportion of ultra-fines, the water leaving the settling tanks 7 is still cloudy, and it may be useful to recover the ore entrained by this water.
For this purpose, and it being understood that the rai mine is suitable for separation by floating, the water leaving the settling tanks 7 is sent to a thickener 11, of the Dorr-Oliver type. The cleared water is evacuated and the sludge is sent to a known floating installation which is shown diagrammatically in 12. This installation produces a concentrate which is collected, a residue which is evacuated and a mixed which is introduced into the same installation.
On the other hand, it will be noted that the thickened sludge withdrawn from the pointed boxes 7 is not returned directly to the inlet of the sieve 10, but is admitted to the inlet of the crusher 6. This arrangement makes it possible to use the sludge. as a lubricant to facilitate grinding, which is especially advantageous when employing a hammer crusher or when the quantity of mixed material is relatively large due to the poverty of the ore. After passing through the crusher or crusher, the sludge accompanies the 0-2 mm class of the crushed material returned to the screen 3.
The implementation shown in FIG. 4 differs from the implementation described with reference to FIG. 3, by the following features The mixture of the sieve 3 falls into a box 9 'of a bucket elevator 13, is sent by this elevator into a roller mill 14 and returns to the inlet of the screen 3.
The refusal from the screen 3 is sent to a box 9 "of a bucket elevator 15 which brings this refusal to the inlet of a roller mill 16 (which could be replaced by a hammer crusher of the Hazemag type), then arrives at the entry of the second sieve 10. The mixture of sieve 10 falls into the elevator box 9 ", where it meets at the refusal of the screen 3. The sludge removed from the bottom of the boxes 7 is added to the material entering. the grinder 16, in order to facilitate grinding.
The shaking hydrotamis shown in FIGS. 5 to 7. It comprises a wooden box 20 mounted on seven steel supports 21. The sound box is divided into seven compartments of unequal size by means of transverse vertical partitions 22, stopping approximately halfway up the sound box. The latter is provided with a weir 23 for the evacuation of water, an inclined plane 24 for the arrival of ore, three water intake ports 25 controlled by taps, and seven Discharge hoppers 25a, one for each compartment, which will be described in detail later.
Inside the box 20 is a metal screen 26 with a perforated bottom 27, suspended from two dirty transverse bars 28 and 28 '. The screen has a large number of vertical transverse partitions 27a of low height, intended to hold a filter bed in place (not shown).
The bars 28 are themselves supported at their ends by two pairs of vertica rods 29 and 29 '. One of the bars 28 (on the left in FIG. 5) is articulated at each of its ends to a connecting rod 30 mounted on a pivot integral with the box, and the position of which is adjustable along a sector 31. The lower end of vertical rods 29 and 29 'is articulated on the end of two pairs of short levers 32 and 32', fixedly mounted at the ends of two transverse shafts 33 and 33 '. Two long longitudinal levers 34 and 34 'are wedged in the middle of the shafts 33 and 33'.
These two longitudinal levers are connected together by their inner ends by means of a binocular 35. One of the levers 34 (on the left in fig. 5) is engaged by a three-pointed cam 36, keyed on a transverse shaft 37. dragged in rotation by means of progressively variable speed of rotation, not shown. The downward movement of the levers 34, 34 'is limited by an adjustable stopper 38, formed of a bronze plate placed on several layers of rubber.
The parts described so far are known, and it is not necessary to describe them in more detail. The stop 38 is fixed to the center of a yoke 39 (fig. 6), the ends of which have internal threads in which are screwed vertical threaded rods 40, 40 'twisted in consoles 41, 41' fixed to the box. 20. The rod 40 carries a control crank 42 and drives the rod 40 'in rotation by means of a helical gear coupling 43.
The rotation of the crank 42 causes the rotation of the rods 40, 40 ', and consequently the vertical displacement of the yoke 39 and of the stop 38.
In operation, the rotation of the shaft 37 and of the triple cam 36 raises the levers 34, 34 'three times per revolution and lets them fall back on the stop 38. This movement causes the screen 26 to undergo a back-and-forth movement. comes in vertical component. Thanks to the presence of the links 30, the movement of the screen 26 also includes a horizontal component, the amplitude of which depends on the position of the fixed point of the links 30 on the sector 31. The amplitude of the oscillatory movement of the levers 34, 34 'is adjustable by the stop 38 using the crank 42.
To interrupt the movement of the sieve 26, it suffices to actuate the crank 42 until the stop 38 has risen sufficiently so that the lever 34 is no longer engaged by the cam 36.
In similar known screens, one end of the yoke is articulated on the base of the apparatus, the rod 40 'is absent, the other end being movable vertically by means of the rod 40. As a result, all other things being equal , stopping the movement of the sieve requires a double number of turns of the crank 42, and a time twice as long, which risks disturbing the stratification of the bed. It is indeed essential that the stopping of the sieve and its restarting be as fast as possible.
In addition, the impacts of the lever 34 on the stop 38 are transmitted asymmetrically on the box 20 by means of the yoke 39, the threaded rod 40 and the console 41, and it has been observed that this also resulted in an imbalance. bed. Finally, the stop 38 can take obligatory positions with respect to the horizontal, which laterally urges the lever 34.
The sieve described is free from these drawbacks. The stopper 38 always moves parallel to itself, and the vibrations due to the impacts of the lever 34 on the stopper are transmitted symmetrically on the two sides of the box, and consequently on the two sides of the screen 26, by the intermediate rods 30.
It has been found that, thanks to this improvement, the sieve described makes it possible to treat grains smaller than 1 mm in size, and even ash up to 60 microns, which was not possible with known sieves.
Fig. 7 shows in detail one of the discharge hoppers 25a. The lower part of this hopper is bent outwards and is provided with a water injection nozzle 44, which facilitates the evacuation and which is connected to a supply pipe not shown, and a flange 45, to which is fixed an observation connector 46 made of a transparent and unbreakable material, carrying a valve body 47 having a cylindrical surface interrupted by a passage. The valve body 47 is provided with journals on which the end of a forked lever 48 is pivoted.
The latter has a cavity in which is housed a spring 49 which pushes a cylindrical closure member 50 against the corresponding surface of the valve body 47. The valve is controlled by means of a control lever 51 and a connecting rod 52 Thanks to the presence of the lever 51, it is possible to make a fine adjustment of the position of the discharge valve, which allows continuous discharge, and not intermittent as in known devices.
In a variant not shown of the screen, two electromagnetic vibrators are arranged on the two side walls of the box, at the location of the first compartment, one third of the height of the box from its top. These vibrators have the effect of reducing the viscosity of the muddy water contained in the box. In another variant not shown, the electromagnetic vibrators are replaced by ultrasound generators, immersed in the muddy water of the first compartment.
