Device for plasticizing and injection molding of thermoplastics
The invention relates to a device for plasticizing and injecting thermoplastics, with an annular piston that can be moved in an axial direction and conveying the injection compound on the one hand, and a heated plasticizing cylinder with a torpedo arranged therein on the other.
It is known that thermoplastic plastics are plasticized partly by screw presses and partly by plasticizing cylinders with torpedoes.
When plasticizing by screw presses, the granulate or powder is conveyed through the plasticizing cylinder by means of the screw flights.
The flight depth of such a worm is mainly decreasing. This results in increased friction on the one hand and the necessary kneading of the material with simultaneous plasticization by the heated cylinder jacket on the other. Injection molding machines are also known in which the plasticized material is changed by changing the cylinder volume, i.e. H. by moving the screw in relation to the cylinder jacket, it is pressed into the injection mold. With this type of plasticization, however, a large amount of energy is required to overcome the relatively high friction, which of course results in powerful and thus expensive drive units.
It is also known to convey the material plasticized by a screw into a storage cylinder and then to press it into the injection mold by means of a piston. In this embodiment of an injection molding device, however, the sealing of the piston with respect to the cylinder jacket causes considerable difficulties, since the storage cylinder must always be kept at the plasticizing temperature.
As a result, the tolerance between piston and cylinder must be kept as low as possible, which means that jamming can easily occur in the event of uneven thermal expansion.
In the normal, generally used plasticizing cylinder with a so-called torpedo, the plunger presses the as yet unplasticized material into the heated plasticizing cylinder. The torpedo, which is held in the most varied of ways in the plasticizing space - partly in an annular piston - presses the material to be plasticized through the annular gap between the torpedo and the inner wall of the cylinder, and at the same time plasticizes it. With this method, there are no sealing difficulties between the piston and the piston liner, since the non-plasticized material produces the required rearward seal due to the gradual transition to the plasticized state.
On the other hand, however, this method has the disadvantage that particularly sensitive thermoplastic materials suffer thermal damage due to excessively long dwell times on the heated cylinder or torpedo wall.
In order to counteract these known deficiencies effectively, the present invention has set itself the task of developing a device for plasticizing and injecting thermoplastic materials that can meet all the requirements. This goal is achieved in that the torpedo is arranged in a self-supporting manner within the plasticizing cylinder, whereby it is behind the mass feed, i.e. H. the incidence chute, is mounted on one side, and is also advantageously rotatable for the purpose of better plasticization and kneading of the molding compound.
With this new version of a device for injecting thermoplastics, it has been possible to combine the advantages of known plasticizing systems in one device. In the device according to the invention, the piston is expediently sealed as in normal piston plasticizing cylinders, whereas the thermoplastic material is plasticized and kneaded with the advantages of a screw press, which causes constant kneading and movement of the thermoplastic material. In addition, in an embodiment with a rotating torpedo, the z.
B. round, out of round or with a steep right and left worm gear is designed such that - due to the thread movement - the material in the center of the plasticizing cylinder is compressed and kept under pressure, burning or thermal damage to the sensitive materials are avoided .
The kneading of the material takes place in a similar way to screw presses, but without causing a conveying effect in the direction of the nozzle on the one hand and the material inlet chute on the other, which is effectively supported by the clever interaction of the conveying and axial grooves of the torpedo and the inner wall of the cylinder. The actual spraying process can take place both when the torpedo is rotating and when it is stationary. Instead of the mechanical drive and the hydraulic pressure cushion, purely hydraulic piston actuation could of course also be used.
In the drawing, the subject matter of the invention is shown in an exemplary embodiment; namely, it shows a cross section through such a rotatable torpedo device.
In this case, 10 denotes a filling opening or a manhole into which the spray material is introduced. 11 is an annular piston which, on the one hand, is guided in a piston sleeve 12 and is displaceable in the axial direction. It is held rigidly with its collar 13 in a piston cross member 14. By means of two operating levers 15, 15 ', which can be driven in a known manner by a crank wheel (not shown), the piston traverse is also axially displaceable.
A torpedo 16, which is driven via a drive wheel 17, is rotatably supported in the annular piston 11 on the one hand and in a machine plate 18 on the other.
On the torpedo shaft 19 pushed through to the rear, a return screw 20 is provided approximately in its central region within the annular piston 11 and the piston cross-member 14, which removes any material residues, as they are, for. B. occur with dusty material, transported to the rear outside. A hydraulic pressure cushion 21 provided in the piston cross-member 14 provides the necessary holding pressure after the injection process has ended.
In the plasticizing space 22 of the heated plasticizing cylinder 23, the torpedo 16 is arranged in a cantilevered manner. On its conical surface facing the chute 10, it initially has right-hand screw grooves 24 which prevent the material to be plasticized from migrating backwards. In order to prevent the plasticized material from escaping unintentionally from the nozzle at the same time, conveying grooves 25 are also provided on the torpedo tip, but these have a steep left slope compared to the grooves 24 on the rear edge of the torpedo. This slope of the grooves 24 and 25 relates to a left-hand torpedo. On the approximately cylindrical central part of the torpedo 16, kneading grooves 26 are optionally provided in the axial direction, which kneading the material thoroughly without promoting.
So that the effect of the grooves 24 and 25 and the kneading grooves 26 on the torpedo is additionally reinforced, counter grooves 27, 28 with opposite right or left inclinations can likewise be provided in the plasticizing cylinder 23. In addition, straight grooves 29 could also be provided in the cylinder inner wall.
The mode of operation of this new device for plasticizing and injecting thermoplastics is as follows: Assume that the machine drive is running, the plasticizing space 22 is already filled with material to be plasticized, and the annular piston 11 is in its rest or initial position, i.e. in the returned position Position. As a result of the rotation of the torpedo 16, the material is kneaded and plasticized in the heated plasticizing chamber 22. The piston cross-member 14 together with the annular piston 11 is then advanced in the direction of the plasticizing cylinder 23 via the two operating levers 15, 15 ′. The as yet unplasticized material which fills the annular gap 30 between the annular piston liner 12 and the torpedo shaft 19 is pressed forward.
A part of the already plasticized material from the plasticizing space 22 is conveyed through the nozzle 31 into the injection mold 32 during this advance of the annular piston 11. After the end of the advance of the annular piston 11, the hydraulic pressure pad 21 in the piston cross-member 14 provides the necessary holding pressure. After the injection process has been completed, the annular piston 11 is moved back to its starting position and new material that is fed in through the hopper 10 is picked up.
As already mentioned, the illustrated and described embodiment is only an example for the implementation of the invention and this is not limited to it; rather, various other designs and applications are possible within the scope of the invention, in particular with regard to the design and design of the only one-sided according to the invention Torpedo storage.
In this way, plasticizing could be carried out without rotating the torpedo even with less sensitive thermoplastics.
In this case, however, the decisive advantage remains that the torpedo is cantilevered in the plasticizing cylinder and yet held at the same distance from the inner wall of the cylinder on all sides.
