<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

Multi-motor drive control The invention relates to an arrangement for controlling multi-motor drives whose armatures are fed with direct current from a common voltage source. For such arrangements it is known to provide a master motor which drives a master shaft. The master shaft has output shafts that work on electrical or mechanical differentials. Shafts connected to the engines also work on the same differential gears. The comparison result of the differentials is used for control, mostly for field control.
With this regulation, the speeds of the drive motors are related as respective actual values to the speed of the master motor as reference variable. A synchronization control is obtained in this way. It is also known to feed each motor separately via a special controller, each motor being controlled to a constant speed. With a tachometer dynamo or a voltage divider on the armature of each motor as a measuring element, a speed-related voltage is obtained and switched against a setpoint voltage. The difference is used as a control deviation for adjusting a corresponding actuator.
Of course, the setpoint voltages would have to be coordinated with one another so that synchronization control is actually achieved.
The present invention simplifies such an arrangement and assumes that all motors are fed with the same armature voltage. It is proposed to feed an alternating voltage tapped at the armature of each motor via grinding brushes to a choke with a low ohmic resistance in relation to the inductive resistance, the current of the choke being the input variable for a follow-up control to compensate for speed fluctuations caused by load fluctuations. The ohmic resistance of the circuit of the Drbssel should have a maximum ratio of 1: 10 to the inductive resistance.
The drawing shows an embodiment of the invention. 1 and 2 are the DC busbars to which motors 10, 20 and 30 are connected. As indicated schematically, grinding brushes 11, 12 or 21, 22 and 31, 32 are provided, which pick up an alternating voltage at the armature of the respective motor and feed it to a choke 13 or 23, 33. A control element 14 or 24, 34 detects the current flowing in the throttle circuit and feeds it to the field regulator 15, 25 or 35. 14, 24 and 34 can, for example, be excitation windings for direct current biased chokes, which represent the actual controller.
It is now important for the inventive idea that the total ohmic resistance in the choke circuit is very small; the inductive resistance must by far predominate. In this case the current in the choke circuit is proportional to the tapped voltage and inversely proportional to the frequency of the alternating voltage, ie the rotational frequency of the motor. This current is constant when the said ratio is constant.
The control works in such a way that the choke current or, in other words, the quotient of voltage and rotational frequency serves as the control input variable, and control is carried out to ensure that this ratio remains constant. The setpoint or operating point is set with a bias current in the controller.
For the follow-up control in the above case, it is ultimately only a matter of keeping the speeds of the motors constant. The feeding armature voltage is the reference variable of the slave control. It is now decisive that, according to the proposed invention, the reference variable of the follow-up control to achieve synchronization of the motors with one another is already in the actual value of the control, i.e.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
is in the quotient.
If the quotient formed from these two quantities is kept constant, each of the speeds is related to the armature voltage value and regulated accordingly. This results in a very simple follow-up control without comparing the speed of the motors with one another and without creating a master frequency. For the control of a motor this would mean in a formulaic representation:
EMI2.5
and thus
EMI2.6
where n is the speed and k, C are constants for a certain predetermined armature voltage U1. Every deviation of the speed n from the constant C should trigger a control process.
For a follow-up control it is generally not absolutely necessary to form a difference between the reference variable and the actual value and to regulate this difference to disappear. The quotient can also be formed from this and the control can be based on the constancy of this quotient. The advantage of this method is that an error of any kind, such as a measurement error, of the reference variable and actual value, i.e. of the measured voltage and measured speed, related to the difference between these variables, becomes infinitely large with the difference decreasing towards zero.
If, on the other hand, the quotient is formed, then an error in one of the input variables in the controller, based on this quotient, is of the same order of magnitude as the error itself.
In the illustrated embodiment of the invention, the current in the choke circuit connected to the mentioned grinding brushes is proportional to the mentioned ratio of voltage and rotational frequency when the ohmic resistances of this circuit are negligibly small. This current is used as an input variable to form the actual control deviation. A constant value is specified as the setpoint. The control deviation then consists of the difference between the setpoint and the actual value, the actual value being the voltage to rotational frequency ratio detected by the inductor current.
Modifications to the arrangement shown are possible. Instead of the DC voltage busbars, an AC voltage can also be used as the supply voltage, with rectifiers being provided individually for each motor or also for all motors together. The control resistors 14 can also be low-resistance resistors at which a voltage for the controller is tapped. The current in the throttle circuits can also be used directly to indicate whether and to what extent a motor deviates from the required speed.
Any control devices, such as grid-controlled discharge paths, variable resistors or variable transformers, cross-field machines or magnetic amplifiers, can be used as field regulators 15, 25, 35. As a preamplifier, it is advisable to choose those with inductive or low-resistance input, i.e., as already mentioned above, direct-current biased chokes or transistors.
