Transmitter circuit, preferably for single sideband transmission Patent No. 3190.86 describes a transmitter circuit that has an output tube that is connected in a grid base circuit and operated at least approximately grid current-free even when the full output power is drawn, the input circuit of which is fed from a preliminary stage with a high-resistance external resistance .
A transmitter output stage designed in this way represents a negative feedback circuit which. characterized by particularly high linearity of the gain. This property is required above all for the transmission of amplitude modulation, preferably by means of single sideband technology, as detailed in the cited patent.
When realizing a transmitter output stage according to this patent, for example in the range of the D, ezimeter waves and the even shorter waves, it turns out that under certain circumstances the one operated in the grid base circuit. End tube - because of the already very noticeable electron transit times - its input impedance changes significantly depending on the level control. This can have the consequence that the external resistance of the pre-tube loses its high value and thus the negative feedback causing the linearization is undesirably reduced.
The subject matter of the invention is a transmitter circuit which, among other things, is improved in this regard.
According to the invention, it is proposed that the high-ohm external resistance of the preliminary stage is connected to the input circuit of the output tube via a four-pole with such transformation properties,
that the fluctuations in the reactive component of the input impedance of the output tube at the four-pole input on the external resistance side that occur when the output tube modulation is changed are at least almost compensated. The quadrupole can advantageously be formed by a line section which, for example, is approximately half an operating wavelength long, but differs from this by a small amount.
The invention is explained in more detail below using an exemplary embodiment.
In Fig. 1, the last two stages of a Sen are shown whose output frequency example, in the order of 300 to. 500 MHz lie. The output stage of the transmitter consists of a tube 3 operated in a grid base circuit, preferably a tetrode, for example of the 4 X 150 type, to whose grid-cathode path the input circuit 1 is connected, while its grid-anode path is connected to the output circuit 2 connected. is. A coupling transformer 4 is used to extract the high-frequency energy.
The input circuit of this grid base stage receives its energy via a high-frequency line 5, for example designed as a Koamal line, which is inductively coupled to the anode circuit 7 of the preamplifier tube 8 by means of a coupling loop 6.
In the exemplary embodiment, the electrical length l of the high-frequency line 5 is selected to be different from half an operating wavelength or an integer multiple thereof, so that the input impedance appearing at the input a of the line section on the upstream side has a reactive component that is at least almost independent of the output tube control.
The external resistance 7 is appropriately detuned, based on the average operating frequency, in such a way that its reactive component then present at the average operating frequency is canceled out against the reactive component that occurs at the upstream end of the line section 5 and transformed into the anode circuit 7.
Using the excerpt from the known resistance diagram shown in FIG. 2, the mode of operation of the subject of the invention is explained in more detail: The input impedance of the tube 3 operated in the grid base circuit at point b is entered as curve A in the pie chart excerpt. R / Z means therein the real part and X / Z the imaginary or reactive part of the input impedance, each scaled to the: Characteristic impedance Z of the line 5. For the value R / Z = 0.8, the input circuit 1 of the tube 3 is correctly matched.
If the coupling line 5 were to be chosen electrically to be exactly half an operating wavelength, the curve for the input impedance at point a - in FIG. 1 - would coincide directly with curve A - in FIG. If, on the other hand, one chooses the coupling line 5 in its electrical length l, for example by 0.022-2, shorter (), = operating wavelength), the input impedance at point a appears in a form as shown by curve B in the pie chart section of Fig. 2 is shown.
The reactive component -jX / Z has become practically constant, i.e. independent of the modulation, and the active component has practically retained its range of fluctuation. The reactive component, which can be read from curve b and in the assumed exemplary embodiment is approximately -j 0.047, can be rendered harmless in that its value transformed into output circuit 7 is compensated for by detuning output circuit 7 at the operating frequency. This ensures that the output circuit resp.
External resistance 7 is a practically reactive resistance-free load in the entire modulation range and therefore remains sufficiently high-resistance, as required for the counter-coupling circuit in the grid base stage to work properly.
To explain the circle diagram: it should also be mentioned that the circles marked with m indicate the so-called ripple, which is calculated from the ratio of the voltage minimum to the voltage maximum of the standing wave formed in the line-matched line, while the one with l /) , represent parameters for the electrical length 1, in such a way that, starting from 0, one full cycle corresponds to the electrical length) / 2.
From the diagram in FIG. 2 it can also be seen that the coupling of the line section 5 to the anode circuit 7 or the input circuit 1 is expediently formed independently of changes in the load - in this case this is the input impedance of the grid basis circuit Tube 3 -. For example, in the exemplary embodiment, this is achieved by the inductive coupling at the end of the upstream stage and by the direct coupling at the end of the line 5 on the output stage.
A normal capacitive coupling, for example by connecting the inner conductor of the line 5 to the anode of the tube 8 via a small capacitance, would not be suitable in the exemplary embodiment, since changing the real part of the input impedance of the line 5 at point a also changes the degree of coupling would.
In the exemplary embodiment shown in FIG. 1, the line section for connecting the output of the preliminary stage to the input of the grid base ends is designed as a line section of a certain electrical length. Instead of this line section 5, a four-pole use can also be found, which has the same electrical properties. For example, it is conceivable to simulate the line section 5 by a: chain ladder if it is a transmitter output stage in the area of longer waves in which the quadrupole 5 would be too unwieldy when training as a line section.
