B. hohe Vorverdichtung, an wendbar.
Device for simulating the operating values of aircraft engines The invention relates to a device for simulating the operating values of aircraft piston engines, which are functions of the air density and the engine speed, namely it relates to devices for the formation of the air flow rate of the engine, the engine power and the charge line pressure.
The simulation of various operating parameters or states occurring in aircraft engines, both when operating on the ground and in flight, such as B. the engine speed (rpm), the absolute pressure in the charging lines (MAP), the engine air supply (We), the braking power (BHP) and the middle working pressure (BMEP), the fuel-air ratio (FIA), the Fuel supply <I> (FF) </I> etc. has been proposed for the training of flight personnel on the ground.
The devices used so far are, however, in some cases not yet executed accurately and realistically to ensure the impact of changes in air density on the behavior of the engine with the accuracy required for the simulation of the engine and the training of the team. This is all the more the case when atmospheric conditions with regard to temperature and pressure come into consideration that deviate from normal. A notable deviation, e.g.
From normal air temperature at a given altitude of the mock flight, can cause a significant error in the calculated weight of the engine air and consequently in the air-fuel ratio, engine power, etc., if the calculation is based only on the mimicked flight normal conditions of the environment.
The weight (W,) of the engine air or the engine air flow rate can be expressed for the purposes of this invention by the equation We - (gE + K1) K2 f (rpm) + K3 2 + K4, where o is the density of the surrounding air , pE is the density of the air at the engine inlet, rpm is the engine speed and K1, K2,
K3 and K4 are constants that depend on the engine configuration and the charge ratio.
The equations for MAP and BHP can also be expressed in this general form, however the constants K2, K3 and K4 for these equations have different values.
The basic equation mentioned is with pre-enclosed constants only for a ratio of the front compressor pressure, z. B. high pre-compression, applicable to. If a low pre-compression is used, the same basic equation applies, but with different constants. In the present education system, the air density 9 is the main variable of the system, as can be seen from the above equation in which W is expressed as a function of air density and speed.
As mentioned above, the other closely related engine parameters, <I> z. B. </I> MAP and engine power as functions of the air density and the engine speed. When simulating the behavior of the engine, which is influenced by the transition from high pre-compression to low pre-compression, the parameters of the motor could be corrected by changing the constants of the above equation accordingly.
To explain the invention in more detail, reference is made to an exemplary embodiment which is shown in the drawing.
The figure shows a schematic representation of a device for simulating certain operating states of an aircraft piston engine. The device is usually built into a facility on the ground for training flight personnel to operate aircraft and engines. The system has simulated aircraft controls for ailerons, elevator, rudder and throttle, which are set by the pilot to control computing devices, which represent certain flight and engine states in a manner known per se.
In order to calculate the quantity W according to the above equation, devices are provided for generating control quantities which represent the density of the surrounding air and the density of the air at the engine inlet, the latter being referred to below as engine air density. The measurement of o "takes place on the intake side of the engine behind the carburetor in front of the supercharger inlet. The system 1 for the density of the ambient air contains devices for generating suitable signals, e.g.
a servo system with a servo amplifier 2 for calculating o, a servo motor 3 which responds to the amplifier output signal, and a potentiometer 4 which has an adjustable sliding contact 4 'which is actuated by the motor via a connection 5. The potentiometer 4 is fed at its upper terminal with an alternating current signal of the appropriate direction -E and is grounded at its lower terminal, so that the voltage taken from the sliding contact 4 'represents the density of the ambient air.
The system for the engine air density 6 includes a servo amplifier 7 which generates an output signal that corresponds to the carburetor air temperature (CAT) ent. This controls a servomotor 8 and the sliding contact 9 ′ of a potentiometer 9.
This Po tentiometer is grounded at its upper terminal via a resistor 10 and is fed at its lower terminal with an alternating current signal via a line 11 from the output of an amplifier 12 which determines the carburetor outlet pressure (CLDP). The output of this amplifier is connected to the primary winding 13 of a transformer 14 which has a multiple secondary winding 15 which is connected to a terminal 16 of the line 11 in order to supply the potentiometer 9 with a signal of the correct direction.
Since the carburetor outlet pressure is measured on the air intake side of the engine between the throttle and the inlet to the internal supercharger and since the temperature of the engine does not change significantly in the inlet line from the carburetor to the supercharger inlet, the density, n, der Engine intake air can be represented by a combination of the control variables CLDP and CAT.
The resulting variable o "is represented by the voltage tapped at the CA T sliding contact 9 '.
The various computing circuits for generating the control variables, which represent the values o, CLDP and CAT, are not described in detail here because they are not new per se and do not form part of the present invention.
The signal OE of the potentiometer 9 is combined with a constant K1, as indicated in the above equation, by using a summing amplifier 17, at the output of which the primary winding 18 of a transformer 19 is connected, which has a multiple secondary winding 20 having.
The resulting signal o, h is picked up with the correct phase position at the terminal 21 of the secondary winding and used via a line 22 to supply a number of motor speed function potentiometers of a speed servo system 25 in the manner described below.
The constant KI associated with the signal oj; is combined, is represented by a constant alternating current signal, which, depending on the condition of the supercharger, alternately from a voltage source Ei or E. "via a contact 26 of a supercharger control relay and a line 27 is fed to an input resistor 28 which is fed to the input terminal 29 of the oEh amplifier is connected.
The o "signal is also fed to an input resistor 30 which is connected to the amplifier input 31 and the AC signals at terminals 29 and 31 are algebraically added in the amplifier in a manner known per se.
The switch 26 of the pre-compressor control relay is controlled by the relay 32 for high pre-compression, which sets the switch 26 so that it represents either low or high pre-compression and thereby changes the constant K, depending on the state of the pre-compressor.
The closing of a pre-compressor control switch 33 by the flight engineer to display the high pre-compression causes the winding 32 to be excited via a current source 34, so that the K switch 26 is brought into the high pre-compression position, where it is connected to a constant voltage source E, in Connection. Switching off the relay winding by opening the switch 33 to display the low pre-compression causes the K switch 26 to be switched to a constant voltage source El.
The value oEh is therefore influenced by the high or low pre-compression.
To introduce a dynamic characteristic into the o% h computer, a signal that represents a function of the engine speed, in particular the change in speed, is fed to the input terminal 24. This signal voltage is derived from the servo system and forms the rpm feedback control voltage, as will be described further below. During operation, the r.pm feedback signal works as a damping and represents the inertia of the engine parts, which influences the operation of the supercharger etc. and thereby the engine air density at a given point in time.
The 2nd Eh signal is combined with a suitable <I> rpm </I> control variable in order to determine the relevant motor states with the aid of various function potentiometers <I> A, B, </I> C or Al, Bi and Cl associated with the rpm servo system 25 mentioned above.
The combined QQEn and rpm function signals of the relevant potentiometers A, B, C or Ap BI and Cl are sent via associated switches 35, 36 and 37 of the pre-compressor control relay to a W, .- system 38 and a BHP computing system 39 and a MAP computing system 40 leads.
The function potentiometers <I> A, B </I> and C are designed so that they correspond to the value of the constant KZ in the corresponding We, BHP or MAP equation for low pre-compression and the potentiometers Al 'Bi and Cl are designed so that they correspond to the value of K2 for high pre-compression.
The calculation of W ″ is in particular primarily determined by a signal that is derived either from potentiometer A or Al and is fed to relay contact a or al via line 41 or line 42 from the potentiometer in question Selects the signal corresponding to the high or low pre-compression, which signal is fed to an input resistor at the input 44 of the W servo amplifier 45 via a line 43.
The determination of BHP is partly controlled by a signal that is tapped either from the potentiometer B or B and fed via a line 46 or a line 47 from the potentiometer in question to a relay contact b or bi. The switch 36 selects the signal corresponding to the high or low pre-compression, so that it is fed via a line 48 to an input resistor that is connected to the input terminal 49 of the BHP summing amplifier 50.
To calculate MAP, a signal is used which is derived from one of the potentiometers C or C1 and fed to a relay contact c or cl via a line 51 or 52 from the potentiometer in question. The switch 37 selects the signal for the high or low pre-compression. The signal is fed via a line 53 to an input resistor which is connected to an input terminal 54 of the MAP servo amplifier 55.
The rest of the above equation for W, relates to the density o of the ambient air. This factor is fed to the aforementioned computing devices via a signal which is derived from the O system 1. For the calculation of W ″, the EJ signal is fed from the sliding contact 4 ′ via a line 56 to the input resistor, which is connected to an input terminal 57 of the W 1 servo amplifier 45.
To calculate BHP, the same signal is fed via lines 56 and 58 to an input resistor which is connected to an input terminal 59 of the BHP summing amplifier 50. The 2-signal from the sliding contact 4 'is also combined with functions of the throttle position and the engine speed to calculate the MAP. For this purpose, the signal from the sliding contact 4 'is fed via a line 60 to the lower terminal of a potentiometer 61, the sliding contact 61' of which can be adjusted by simulating a gas lever 62.
The potentiometer is grounded at its upper terminal (throttle open), and the voltage derived at the sliding contact 61 'is fed via a line 63 to a potentiometer 64 of the rpm system. The voltage derived at the sliding contact 64 'is fed via a line 65 to the input resistor, which is connected to an input terminal 66 of the MAP servo amplifier 55.
If the engine is a so-called turbo-compound engine, in which power is obtained from the engine's exhaust gases and transferred to the engine's crankshaft, the circuit connected to the MAP input terminal 66 can be used for this purpose to achieve a more realistic imitation of the size MAP <I> </I>. As mentioned above, the signal is a combined function of o, the throttle position and the engine speed.
In the turbo-compound engine, MAP does not change linearly with o, as indicated in the basic equation, in particular for intermediate throttle positions, so that in this case the throttle function potentiometer 61 and the speed function potentiometer 64 are designed accordingly.
The calculation of rpm, which determines the position of the rpm servo system 25, is not described in detail because it is no longer new. It should suffice to point out that the signal for supplying terminal 23 of the input resistor, which is connected to input terminal 67 of the rpm servo amplifier 68, corresponds to a signal which represents a function of the variable BHP and the propeller load.
The description of the rpm servo device 25 should also suffice to explain the various servo systems of the system, since they essentially match in terms of their operation.
The rpm system, which is a self-adjusting integration system, contains the servo amplifier 68, which is fed with the determined rpm signal voltage, a motor 70, which is connected to the amplifier output and drives a feedback generator 71 and a number of potentiometers which are connected to the motor generator via a reduction gear 72.
To simplify the illustration, only the potentiometer resistor 73 for self-adjustment of the servo system is shown as wrapped with wire; it is clear that the other potentiometer resistors are also wound in the same way. The servo amplifier 68 is a summing amplifier that determines the resultant of AC input voltages; Suitable matching resistances are also provided in the amplifier input circuits for calculation.
Amplifiers of this type are known per se and are used for algebraic addition of a number of individual alternating voltages of variable size and polarity, so that a detailed description does not appear necessary.
The part of the servo system that contains the motor generator or just one motor is only designated by M in other parts of the circuit. The motor 70 is a two-phase motor with a control phase winding 74, which is fed by the servo amplifier in the manner shown, and with a second phase winding 75, which is a constant reference alternating voltage e, with 90 phase shift from the control voltage, is supplied. The operation of such a motor is known per se.
It runs in one direction when the control and reference voltages in the windings have the same instantaneous polarity and in the opposite direction when the instantaneous polarity of the control voltage is opposite to that of the reference voltage. The speed of rotation depends in both cases on the size of the control voltage. The circuit of the motors is shown in simplified form for the sake of clarity, and it will be seen that known circuits for improving the motor characteristics, e.g. B. to achieve a quick response, etc., can be used.
The motor drives a two-phase feedback generator 71, which likewise has a reference phase winding 76 which is fed with a reference voltage e @ shifted by 90, while the second phase winding 77 generates a speed feedback voltage Efu for speed control. The motor also serves to drive one or more potentiometers and display devices via a transmission 72 and suitable mechanical connec tions, which are indicated by the dashed lines 78.
In the present case, the potentiometers 73, A, B, C, A1, B1, C1 and 64 as well as a display device 79 are driven by the motor, the device 79 displaying the speed rpm.
The individual potentiometer resistors, e.g. B. the resistor 73, can be wound on bobbins in a manner known per se and are either circular or band-shaped, with a flat design being indicated in the illustration for the sake of simplicity. Actuation of the servomotor 70 in one direction causes the potentiometer sliding contact 73 'to be moved into a corresponding angular position' on the resistance body in order to derive a voltage, that is to say to tap off, which corresponds to the position of the sliding contact.
Each potentiometer of the servo systems is shaped or has such a contour that the value of the derived voltage at the sliding contact has a desired relationship to the angular position of the contact, which depends on the particular function of the potentiometer. The terminals of the potentiometer are supplied with a voltage which, with regard to the instantaneous value of the polarity and the size, depends on the task of the potentiometer concerned.
The outline of each function potentiometer represents the derivative of that function, and although mathematical relationships must be taken into account, the potentiometer resistances are all shown the same for simplicity. The contour or the change in width and therefore the resistance distribution of a potentiometer is proportional to the derivative of the function of the parameter that is to be simulated with reference to the variable that is given by the setting of the potentiometer.
The width of the opposing body in a given contact position is therefore determined by the linear or non-linear Charak ter of the function. The rpm servo resistors are used to derive signals that are used when calculating the quantities <I> W, "</I> BHP and MAP.
The complete W "system 38 contains the aforementioned servo amplifier 45, a servo motor 80 and a response potentiometer 81 to generate the W, signal on the sliding contact 81 ', which is fed via a line 82 to the rated or matching resistance which is connected to the input terminal 83 of the amplifier.
To correct for high or low pre-compression, a K signal is fed from the relay switch 26 via the lines 84 and 85 to the input resistance at the terminal 86 of the amplifier 45. The added signals generate a resulting control variable W according to the above equation.
In order to determine the weight of the engine fuel or the fuel throughput (FF), the <I> W, - </I> signal from the sliding contact 81 'is fed to a potentiometer 88 of a (FA) fuel-air ratio system 90 via the line 87 . The F, IA system contains a servo amplifier 91 and a servo motor 92 for controlling the potentiometers 93 and 88. The voltage derived at the sliding contact 88 'of the potentiometer 88 can represent the weight of the fuel, since the motor air is eliminated.
The signal is fed via a line 94 to the input terminal 95 of an FF servo amplifier 96, the output voltage of which controls a motor 97, a potentiometer 98 and a fuel flow indicator 99.
In addition to the function signals for density and speed at terminals 49 and 59, the complete computing system for the variable BHP receives a K signal from relay switch 26 via line 84 to the input resistor which is connected to input terminal 100 of amplifier 50 , as well as a signal from the FIA system, which is a function of the variables BHP and F / A.
The BHP function is derived from a BHP transformer 101, the primary winding of which is fed by the output voltage of the amplifier 50; its multiple secondary windings generate a signal in a suitable direction at terminal 102, which signal is fed to the FIA function potentiometer 93 via a line 103.
This potentiometer, which is fed with the BHP signal at its two opposite terminals and is grounded in the middle, is designed so that the voltage derived at the sliding contact 93 'represents the desired function of the variables BHP and F / A . This signal is fed via a line 104 to the input resistor, which is connected to an input terminal 105 of the BHP amplifier 50.
A typical arrangement for introducing a correction factor is shown in the circuit between the BHP and the F? A system and contains the FA potentiometer 93. Here, the BHP signal is changed according to a change in the variable FIA and the BHP amplifier fed back at terminal 105. This correction procedure can also be applied to other systems if necessary.
The BHP signal at terminal 102 is normally also used to feed an input terminal 106 of a servo amplifier 107 of a BMEP system 108. This system contains a potentiometer 109 which is fed by an rpna signal via a line 110 from the sliding contact 73 ′ of the rpm potentiometer 73. The resulting derived voltage at the PMEP sliding contact 109 'is fed to the input terminal 111 of the amplifier 107,
so that the resulting amplifier output signal represents the quantity BMEP. The servo system also controls a BMEP display device 112 as in the real case.
For a more accurate simulation, the BHP signal at the output terminal 102 is switched off by the BMEP and FFA systems when the engine is switched off, which means that no combustion takes place. If the engine z. B. is driven by the airstream while it is switched off, there is no BMEP display, although of course the variables MAP and W are displayed.
Around. To mimic this, a switch 120 can be controlled by an engine shut-off relay 121 and break the connection between terminal 102 and line 103 when the engine is switched off and to re-establish this connection when the engine is switched on. The basic requirements for operation <; engine switched on are: 1. that the speed is greater than zero, 2. that F / A has a predetermined value, e.g. B. 0.045, exceeds and 3. d'ass the ignition is switched on.
The control of the relay 121 can therefore be achieved by closing the circuit of the relay winding to earth through an ignition switch 122, an F / A switch 123 which is operated by the F / A servo system through a cam 124 via a connection 125, and an rpm -Switch 126, which is actuated by the rpm servomotor via a cam disk 127 and a connection 78, and a line 128 takes place. The other terminal is connected to a voltage source Ed.
When the ignition switch is on and the FIA and rpm switches are closed to indicate that the engine is on, relay 121 is energized and. the switch 120 is closed in order to establish the connection between the BHP and BMEP systems.
In addition to the density and speed function signals at the input terminals 66 and 54, the complete MAP system receives a K signal via the line 84 and a line 113 from the relay switch 26 at the input resistor which is connected to the MAP input terminal 114 and a MAP = response signal from a potentiometer 115 at an input terminal 116.
The MAP servo system also controls a MAP display device 117 as in practice.
It can therefore be seen that the simulation of the critical conditions of the engine including the engine air flow rate, the size MAP and the engine power not only the changes in the simulated density of the ambient air and the engine air, but also the changes in the engine properties at high or low pre-compression into consideration.
This simulation is achieved with a minimum of time and servo equipment, so that the complete system not only works more precisely and reliably, but is also less expensive.
To simplify the illustration, only a small number of supercharger relay switches are shown, that is to say a single switch 26 for selecting the K signal (Ei or E2) for the qEIc, MAP, We and BHP systems. It is clear that the direction of the constant K can change not only in the equations for each motor, but also for different motors,
so that, if necessary, a separate relay switch can be used to select the signal voltages of suitable polarity or direction for the computing systems concerned. A single signal source for each supercharging ratio can be used for the K signals in the same direction, since the input resistances of the computing systems are decisive for the size of the input signals.
The representation is also simplified by omitting secondary circles such. B. of Schaltun conditions that are controlled in a manner known per se by the teacher to simulate disturbances by z. B. the operation of the systems, which represent the critical engine conditions, influenced or ge is disturbed. The teacher can e.g. B.
Introduce signals that influence the We, rpm and F / A systems to mimic various operational irregularities and malfunctions. It can also introduce such signals into the QEx system to mimic unexpected changes in engine air density, causing new MAP readings and so on.
The potentiometers shown in the same way for the sake of simplicity do not need to be wound uniformly and can have correspondingly shaped outlines and variable resistance characteristics in order to be adapted to the special functions or motor properties.
The control voltages for the operation of the exercise device described enclosed are with the exception of the special cases designated AC voltages. The instantaneous value of the polarity of the signal voltage relates to the phase relation to a reference AC voltage at the specified points. It should be noted, however, that the invention is not limited to AC voltages and corresponding devices and that systems with DC voltage can also be used.
