Das Sperrelais SR ist einerseits über einen Arbeitskontakt t2 eines Thermokontaktes T2 und anderseits über die parallel zu t2 liegende Reihenschaltung eines handbetätigten Tasters D 1 und dem Selbsthaltekontakt sr3 an P und N angeschlossen;
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
Das überwachungsrelais VR spricht an und schliesst mit seinem Umschaltkontakt ür das Einschaltrelais ER an P und N, das heisst an die Batteriespannung, an. Bei Ansprechen des Einschaltrelais ER wird durch den Arbeitskontakt erl die Wicklung 1 des Überwachungsrelais ÜR unmittelbar an die Batterie B angeschlossen;
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

Device for automatic starting, starting and stopping of a power generator In devices for automatic starting and stopping of drive machines for power supply units, in particular for the automatic starting of internal combustion engines for emergency power units, it is known to drive a control shaft by an electric auxiliary motor when a switch-on command is given, whose task it is to control individual operating elements of the drive machine, e.g. B. To operate the combustion engine mechanically or electrically in a certain time sequence.
In order to remotely control the starting and shutdown processes, it is also known to give switching commands to the control unit of the engine or the assembly via special control lines and special switching devices. But you can also connect an auxiliary power source to the consumer network to be supplied, e.g. B. the starter battery for the internal combustion engine, and monitor this auxiliary circuit by a relay so that it responds when a consumer is switched on and triggers the starting process.
The invention uses this advantageous type of excitation of the starting process and creates a device for automatic starting, commissioning and shutdown of a power generator driven by an engine for a consumer network, which is in series with a monitoring relay in the open circuit of an auxiliary power when the power generator and consumer switched off - there is a source that is closed after at least one consumer is switched on, so that the monitoring relay responds and triggers the starting process.
The invention consists in that for initiating and, if necessary, repeating the starting process at least once, a thermal contact combination which is used to control a starting relay is brought into indirect switching dependency from the monitoring relay and d'ass the consumer network from the circuit containing the auxiliary power source in indirect switching dependency from the monitoring relay the generator is switched over before it is put into operation and is switched back to the auxiliary power source after the last consumer has been switched off.
The device according to the invention is primarily intended for independent power generator units, for example to supply individual businesses, farms, houses or even smaller places with light or possibly also with power, with internal combustion engines mostly being considered for operation. But it can also be used for emergency power systems. By using commercially available components from low-voltage technology, the device according to the invention can be built extremely compact in terms of circuit technology and operates particularly energy-saving, with a high degree of guarantee that the power supply unit will start up reliably. The entire facility can e.g.
B. be housed in a single housing that hardly takes up more space than the housing of a larger electricity meter.
An exemplary embodiment of the device according to the invention is shown in the drawing. A network with phases R, S and T is connected to a constant voltage generator G - hereinafter referred to as generator for short - via the power plug connection KS and the circuit breaker SS.
The grounded neutral 0 is connected to the negative pole of an auxiliary power source (battery B) via a Kraftsteckverbindüng on the one hand and on the other hand via plug 2 of the multiple connector VS and the terminal a of the dash-dotted housing for the
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
Self-control device StG once directly and the other time connected via the normally open contact of a switch-on relay ER to the changeover contact br of an operating relay BR, the foot contact of which is connected to the generator star point via connection 12 of AK and VS.
Consumers L1, L2, L3 and M are connected between phases R, S, T and the neutral conductor 0 with switches v1 to v4. To drive the generator G, for example, an internal combustion engine, not shown, is used, which can operate according to the Otto or Diesel process or is designed as a hot-head motor. The device described in more detail below can also be used for other types of internal combustion engines that occur which have electrical starting devices.
The positive pole of battery B is connected to line P via a fuse Si and connection 1 of VS and AK, the negative pole is connected to line N via connection 2 of VS and AK. Between these two lines there is a number of relays and circuit elements which are detailed below and which form the actual self-control device.
The switch-on relay ER is connected to P and N via the working side of the changeover contact iir of a monitoring relay ÜR and the normally closed contacts srl and grl of a blocking relay SR and a generator relay GR, while via the normally closed side of the switching contact itr or the normally open contact sr2 of the blocking relay SR and the two contacts downstream normally open contact rr3 of a return relay RR a shutdown relay AB is connected to P and N. In parallel to the contacts sr2 and rr3 lying in series, a working contact D21 of a pushbutton to be operated by hand is also arranged.
The blocking relay SR is connected on the one hand via a normally open contact t2 of a thermal contact T2 and on the other hand via the series connection of a manually operated pushbutton D 1 and the self-holding contact sr3 to P and N, which is parallel to t2;
a signal lamp ML is parallel to the blocking relay. The starting relay AN is connected to P and N in series with its two windings I and 1I via the normally open contact er2 of the switch-on relay and the idle side of an uninterrupted changeover contact an2 of a starting relay AN and the idle side of the changeover contact t1 of a thermal contact T 1. The thermal contact 7'1 is located between the working side of the changeover contact an2 and N. The thermal contact T2, however, is only connected to P and N via the normally open contact er2.
Another thermal contact T3 is also connected to the auxiliary power source B with a normally closed contact gr2 of the generator relay GR and a normally open contact ab3 of the shutdown relay AB connected upstream.
The return relay RR is connected to P via the normally closed contact t3 of the thermal contact T3 as well as via the normally open contacts er4 of the switch-on relay and rrl (self-holding contact) of the return relay to P, with an ignition relay ZR being arranged parallel to the return relay RR, to which a normally closed contact D22 of a manually operated button and a break contact from 1 of the shut-off relay are in series, the latter contact being connected between terminals 13 and 14 of AK.
Finally, the operating relay BR is connected to the battery voltage via the normally open contacts rr2 and gr3, the return or generator relay. The aforementioned monitoring relay ÜR has two windings I and 1I, each of which is sufficient for the relay to respond.
The winding I is on the one hand to the Leituni P and on the other hand either via the idle side of the changeover contact br, the generator star point, the generator itself and the switched-on consumer to the neutral conductor and the negative pole of the battery B, or via the closed working contact of the switch-on relay and connection 2 from AK and VS connected to the negative pole of the battery.
The winding II of the monitoring relay ÜR is fed via rectifiers GL2 and GL3 from a current transformer W arranged in the network; the connection between the parts mentioned is made via connections 7 to 9 of AK and VS. The current transformer W is designed so that it goes into saturation at approximately half the nominal load. In order to prevent excessive voltage increases in the rectifiers caused by short circuits in the consumer circuit or the like until saturation is reached, a further rectifier GLI with opposite polarity is connected in parallel with the rectifiers mentioned.
The winding II is designed and the converter W is dimensioned such that the monitoring relay ÜR remains attracted up to a certain minimum consumption. This minimum value is based on the smallest connected consumer. The two windings I and 11 are each connected in parallel with capacitors C1 and C2, which have the task of preventing the monitoring relay from dropping out when ER and GR are actuated or when the consumer is briefly switched off during operation.
Between the line P and ground there is a drive for starting aid (e.g. pulling the starter flap) via the normally open contact er3 of the switch-on relay and the connection 11 from AK and VS, and via the normally open contact anal of the starter relay and connection 5 from AK and VS the starter as well via the normally open contact zrl of the ignition relay and number 6 from AK and VS to actuate the ignition coil (for gasoline engines) or fuel release (for diesel engines). Terminals 3 and 4 of AK are connected to one another via a normally open contact ab2 of the shutdown relay. In the case of gasoline engines with: Magnetic ignition, the shutdown command is given by means of an ignition short circuit.
If terminal 3 is connected to terminal 1, a fuel valve can be connected via connection 4 from AK and VS (with Otto
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
engines) or a shut-off magnet (for diesel engines).
The circuit of the self-control device specified in the drawing must be supplemented in the manner specified below, depending on the type of output machine used. The following connection terminals AK in the automatic control unit must be connected with wire bridges: 1. The connection terminals 1 and 3 on all drive machines except for gasoline engines with magneto ignition.
2. Terminals 13 and 14 for gasoline engines with shut-off by a shut-off valve or for diesel engines with shut-off by a shut-off magnet.
3. Terminals 3 and 15, 4 and 16 as well as 1 and 6 for gasoline engines with magneto ignition. The operation of the device is as follows: To switch on one or more of the existing consumers L1 and L3 and M, one or more of the associated switches v1 to v4 are closed. As a result, the winding I of the monitoring relay ÜR is connected to battery B by closing the following circuit: P, ÜR, winding 1, rest side br, generator star point, generator, consumer, neutral and minus.
The monitoring relay VR responds and connects with its changeover contact for the switch-on relay ER to P and N, i.e. to the battery voltage. When the switch-on relay ER responds, winding 1 of the monitoring relay ÜR is connected directly to battery B through the normally open contact Erl;
The two windings I and 1I of the starting relay AN are connected in series to the battery voltage via the normally open contact er2, the quiescent side of the changeover contact an2 of the starter relay AN and the quiescent side of the changeover contact t1 of the thermal contact T1. At the same time, the thermal contact T2 is always connected to voltage by closing the normally open contact er2.
The changeover contact an2 is switched over without interruption when the starter relay responds, whereby the winding I is switched off and the thermal contact T1 is excited. The starting relay AN is now held by the winding 1I alone, whose normally open contact anl switches on the starter. The normally open contact er3 closes the circuit for the starting aid and the normally open contact er4 closes the circuit for the return relay RR, which after it has responded by the self-holding contact rrl holds itself.
With its normally open contact rr2 it applies the operating relay BR to the battery voltage. Another normally open contact rr3 prepares the circuit for the shutdown relay AB. The operating relay BR switches over the loads from the battery circuit to the generator G by moving its changeover contact br. Before switching, a parallel path has been established for the switched-on consumers and the generator by closing the Erl contact so that the consumers are de-energized when switching. The switchover also takes place without power, since the generator voltage is not yet available at this point in time.
At the same time, the closing of the normally open contact er4 activates the ignition relay. ZR switched on, which by means of its working contact zrl, for example when using a gasoline engine, switches on the ignition coil, when using a diesel engine, it switches on the fuel release. The thermal contact T1 moves its changeover contact t1 from the right to the left position as soon as it is excited after the normally open contact er2 is closed. Likewise, the thermal contact T2 moves its contact t2 in the closing direction. The thermal contacts are dimensioned in such a way that their switchover resp.
Closing contacts have not yet switched over or closed during the normal course of the start-up process when the switch-on relay ER has become de-energized again after the start-up process has proceeded perfectly. Due to the external temperature sensitivity of the thermal contacts, the duration of the ax letting processes is automatically adapted to the prevailing external temperature and thus the starting behavior of the engine at different external temperatures is also taken into account.
Normally, the starter will bring the drive motor (not shown) to start up, so that it runs up to its nominal speed in a short time and the generator G does not reach a nominal voltage within a very short period of time, so that the consumers that are switched on are operated properly.
Between a generator output and the excitation-current converter, which is not shown, the generator relay GR is connected with its one winding end via the connection terminal 12, so that no additional excitation can arise from this circuit. The generator relay GR speaks z. B. at about 70 to 80% of the nominal voltage of the generator and switches off the switch-on relay ER through its normally closed contact grl.
This drops out and separates the starting relay AN and the drive for the starting aid from the battery and at the same time switches the winding I of the monitoring relay ÜR off by opening the normally open contact. The monitoring relay is now held by means of its winding 1I fed by the converter W. When the starter relay drops out, the starter is switched off again.
The shutdown of the power supply unit takes place as follows: When the last consumer is switched off, the monitoring relay ÜR drops out, so that the prepared shutdown relay is in the rest position of the contact. AB is switched on and when it is triggered by the normally closed contact from 1.
the ignition relay ZR is switched off, the short-circuiting device for magneto ignition is switched on by the normally open contact ab2 and, with the normally open contact ab3, the thermal contact T3 is connected to the battery voltage after the voltage on the generator
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
has dropped so far that the generator relay GR has been thrown off and its normally closed contact gr2 has closed. After a certain time, the thermal contact T3 opens its break contact t3, so that the holding circuit of the feedback relay RR is interrupted and this also interrupts the holding circuits of the shutdown relay AB and the operating relay BR when it drops out.
The operating relay BR brings its contact br back into the rest position shown, so that the consumer network is reconnected to the circuit containing the battery B and disconnected from the power generator G by the contact br in the rest position. The entire system is thus returned to its original state and ready for the next start-up process.
In some cases, the drive machine for the generator will not respond in the manner described at the first start-up attempt described above, so that the starter relay AN is not switched off by the switch-on relay ER after the generator has started up, but depending on the switch-off on the thermal contact T1 is brought.
When the starting relay AN responds, this thermal contact TI is connected to the battery voltage by the changeover contact an2, so that its changeover contact t1 begins to wander and first switches off the winding I of the starter relay AN. After a certain time, in which the drive machine has normally started, the contact t1 closes the winding I parallel to the winding 1I, so that the winding I previously in series is counter-excited and causes the starter relay AN to drop.
As a result, due to the contact an2 that has returned to the position shown, the thermal contact T1 is de-energized again and allows its contact t1 to return to its original position shown within a certain time, so that the device is ready to start again. This process is repeated until the thermal contact T2, which is energized when the switch-on relay ER responds, closes its normally open contact t2 and thus switches on the blocking relay SR. This is indicated by the ML signal lamp lighting up.
The blocking relay holds itself through its contact sr3 and switches on the aforementioned shutdown relay AB through its normally open contact sr2 and switches off the switch-on relay ER through its normally closed contact srl. The response times of the thermal contacts T 1 and T2 are dimensioned so that the number of possible consecutive starting processes is matched to the performance (capacity) of the battery, since if the starting attempts are unsuccessful it must be assumed that the ignition conditions are not met and the engine is also would not start further attempted causes.
The normally closed contact srl of the blocking relay prevents the motor from starting automatically while the blocking relay is energized. After the malfunction has been eliminated, the blocking relay can be thrown off again by pressing the push button D 1 and the unit can be restarted. In the event of malfunctions in the running unit, a manual shutdown command can be issued by pressing the manual button with the normally open contact D21 and the normally closed contact D22, even if the automatic control device is connected.
D21 immediately applies voltage to the shutdown relay AB, while D22 interrupts the ignition relay ZR so that the drive engine can be shut down immediately by interrupting the ignition even if the fuel valve is switched off - in which case the shutdown relay AB would run after a certain amount of time. In the case of a diesel engine drive, a closed circuit of the fuel magnet is advantageous. Before starting, the fuel magnet is excited by contact zrl via connection 6 from AK and VS, thereby releasing the fuel for the injection pumps.
This type of circuit has the advantage that if the battery supply line is interrupted and the operating relay BR drops out, the machine set is automatically shut down, as is the case with the other operating modes with gasoline engines. If the battery is ignited and the operating connections are interrupted, automatic shutdown takes place anyway. With magneto ignition, the above-mentioned parallel connection of terminals 15 and 16 to terminals 3 and 4 issues the ignition short-circuit command in the event of battery voltage failure by closing the normally closed contact zr2.
The device described is, as already mentioned, housed in a closed housing and can be connected to the auxiliary power source of the electrical starting device and its auxiliary device as well as to the star point of the power generator by a detachable plug connection, whereby a strongly vibrating unit is also installed separately a simple and safe connection and easy replaceability for repairs. By using commercially available low-voltage components, the auxiliary power source is only slightly stressed because of their low power consumption, so that an existing starter battery can easily be used for this purpose.
