<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

Electrical device for frequency control The present invention relates to an electrical device for frequency control using ring modulators.
It is already known to feed the setpoint and actual frequency to a phase-dependent rectifier for the purpose of frequency control and to use the output voltage of this rectifier as a control signal. The actual frequency can, for example, be taken from an AC tachometer that is coupled to the shaft of a group to be controlled at constant speed, while an oscillator supplies the setpoint frequency. The known arrangement, however, has the disadvantage that the two comparison frequencies have to be synchronized and that there is a risk of tipping if the actual frequency deviates from the setpoint frequency.
In this case, the control signal represents an alternating voltage that cannot be used for control tasks.
The shortcomings of the known can be avoided by the fact that according to the invention the actual frequency voltage applied to the ring modulators represents a two-phase voltage and that means are provided which are used to generate a voltage used for the regulation, which is only in a predetermined range of the phase angle between a phase of the actual frequency voltage and the setpoint frequency voltage exists, runs sinusoidally, while outside this range it has a constant value. In this way, a clear control signal can be generated.
1 of the drawing shows an exemplary embodiment of the control device according to the invention, and FIGS. 2 to 7 serve to explain the physical processes.
In Fig. 1, 1 denotes the terminals at which there is a voltage which has the desired frequency. Terminals 2 and 3 are fed by two phase voltages which are offset by 90 relative to one another and which oscillate at the actual frequency. The secondary windings of the transformers 4, 4 'and 5, 5' are connected to the ring modulators 6 and 7. The operating point of the modulator diodes is selected in a known manner so that a short circuit of the transformers is avoided.
The resistors 8, 8 'and 9, 9' act as voltage dividers. 10 with a direct current amplifier is designated, with 11 its series resistor; with 12 a feedback resistor. The amplifier also has a connection, not shown, to the neutral conductor 0 of the circuit. The arrangement also contains the amplifiers 13, 14, 15. The gas or steam-filled valve 16 is connected with the anode via the resistor 17 to the positive potential of the switching arrangement, while the cathode is connected to the neutral conductor. The valve grid is connected to diodes 18, 19 and 20. The capacitor 22 is located between the anodes of the valves 16 and 21.
The valves 23 and 24 show a corresponding circuit structure. For these, however, only the coupling capacitor 22 'and the diode 33 are provided with reference numerals, while the other diodes and resistors are not specifically designated. The negative terminal of the device is connected to the diodes 27 and 28 via the resistors 25 and 26. The diode 29 is connected on the one hand to the output of the amplifier 10, while on the other hand it is connected to the input of the amplifier 15, the output of which is connected to the diode 30. The control amplifier is connected to terminals 31 and 32 at which the voltage UR is present.
FIGS. 2 to 7 serve to explain the mode of operation of the device shown in FIG. 1.
Fig. 2 gives the phase relationships between
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
the voltages rcl and u1 that exist at the individual points of the circuit indicated in FIG. 1 with respect to the neutral conductor. The angle (p, which indicates the phase shift between the setpoint frequency voltage (terminals 1 in FIG. 1) and a phase of the actual frequency voltage (terminals 3 in FIG. 1) is plotted on the abscissa of FIG.
In a known way, the voltages u1 and u. Occurring at the center taps of the transformers 5 and 5 'are proportional to the magnitude - sin (p and - cos (p. From the mesh equations for the voltage dividers 8, 8' and 9, 9 ' The phase positions for the voltages u # and u4 also follow, as defined in Fig. 2. The DC amplifiers 10, 13, 14 and 1.5 have the task of rotating the phase of the voltage at their input by 180.
To explain the control process, the grid voltages of the valves 16, 21, etc. are considered in more detail. The grid of the valve 16 is connected to the voltage u1 via the diode 18 and to the voltage u2 via the diode 19. In Fig. 3, the grid voltages of the valve 16 and the voltage u1 are plotted as a function of the angle cp.
For the valve 21, the corresponding relationships can be seen in FIG. 4, and FIG. 5 shows the curve of the grid voltages and the voltage u1 for the valve 23.
It should first be assumed that the angle! P has the value zero. In this case the valves 16, 21, 23 and 24 are blocked because there are negative voltages on their grids. The grid voltage of the valves is always based on the diode connected to the grid that has the lowest potential. For example, the diode 19 on the grid of the valve 16 generates a negative potential because for cp = 0 according to FIG. 3, the voltage u2 is negative. The diode 18, however, is connected to a positive potential and is therefore loaded in the reverse direction. It cannot therefore exert any influence on the grid tension of the valve 16.
Since all valves are blocked for 99 = 0, a positive voltage is applied to the cathodes of diodes 27 and 28, so that they are also blocked. The voltage u 'at the input of the amplifier 15 is accordingly, neglecting the voltage drop at the diode 29, equal to the voltage - u1, and the voltage + u1 then appears at the output of the amplifier mentioned.
The potential of the terminals marked + in FIG. 1 is always chosen to be somewhat higher than the highest positive voltage of u1. A current therefore flows through the diode 30 and the voltage + u1 is applied to the terminal 32, which is also zero for (p = 0.
If the actual frequency falls as a result of a disturbance, the angle 9p increases in the negative direction and the voltage, among others, follows the sinusoidal curve of u (FIG. 6). At rp = -, - t / 4 the valve 21 ignites because its grid voltage becomes positive (Fig. 4). If the valve has a screen grid, it can be achieved by selecting the screen grid voltage accordingly that ignition takes place when the grid voltage crosses zero. However, the ignited valve 21 initially does not influence the voltage uFZ. However, this voltage is controlled by valve 16 in the further course.
As can be seen from FIG. 3, this valve ignites at angle 99 = -W2. As a result, the anode voltage drops to the low value of the operating voltage, and as a result of the coupling via the capacitor 22, the anode voltage of the valve 21 drops so far that it is extinguished. It should be pointed out that at (p = -.- r / 2 the grid voltage of the valve 21 assumes a negative value. However, this fact alone would not enable the extinguishing, since with a gas or steam-filled tube only the ignition insert with the help of the Grid voltage can be set, while an erasure is not achievable even by a negative voltage.
As a result of the ignition of the valve 16, the diode 27 is now at a constant negative potential, the magnitude of which is somewhat greater than the maximum value of u. Consequently, the diode 29 is now blocked and u 'has a constant value. The amplifier 15 rcl; for angles smaller than - z / 2, to a constant positive quantity. This course is necessary in order to achieve a clear regulation.
In the range from 97 = -, 7/2 to (p = - 2.7, the sine function cannot be used for the control process, since despite an increase in the angle -rp the voltage fed to the control amplifier would be reduced or even negative The above-described switchover to a constant voltage. You could switch back to the sine function at 2 z, but the voltage jump that occurs would give rise to oscillations. Therefore, the switch back is only carried out at a larger negative angle generated by the Ignition of the valve 21 is determined.
It can be seen from FIG. 4 that the valve 21 ignites again at 9p = -9 ar / 4 and thus causes the valve 16 to be extinguished. The voltage uiZ accordingly has a profile as shown in FIG. 6. If, after switching back to the sine function, the actual frequency is still lower than the set frequency, UR follows the rising branch of the sinusoidal oscillation, but in the opposite case the falling branch.
Assuming that the actual frequency already agrees with the setpoint frequency at point A (FIG. 6), the regulation is performed in the way indicated by the arrow. It should also be noted that it is necessary to prevent the ignition of the valve 23 while the valve 16 is burning. Otherwise the voltage would be switched from a constant positive value to a constant negative value, and proper regulation would then be impossible. According to FIG. 5, the start of the ignition for the valve 23 is given at cp = -3 .r / 4.
The
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
Diode 33 prevents this, however, since it applies a negative potential to the grid of valve 23 when tube 16 is burning. The required locking is achieved in this way.
The operations when the actual frequency is reduced have been described above. Similar considerations apply when it rises above the setpoint frequency. The valves 23 and 24 then take over the functions corresponding to the valves 16 and 21, and the voltage UR runs according to FIG. 7.
The device described can serve to keep a machine speed constant, but it can also be used to synchronize synchronous generators. In the latter case, the control signal is fed to the turbine controller.
