(U - Zjl) - (U - 7#. I) Le dispositif représentéà la fig.

Electrical protection device The present invention relates to a device intended to protect a polyphase electrical line, connected by only one of its ends to a more or less complex network, when there is an asymmetric fault in the above line. This will be called antenna in the remainder of the description. It must be understood that this line may include passive receivers and machines rotating receivers or generators, or only passive receivers or only rotating machines.
For such a protection device to function correctly, it must, on the one hand, be sensitive to any asymmetrical fault occurring in the antenna and, on the other hand, that it be selective. ie qi # ciI only works for an asymmetric y fault occurring, to the exclusion of any asymmetric fault occurring in the network.
Protection devices are known in which relays sensitive to reverse power are used, since the reverse components of the current and of the voltage appear only at the time of an insulation fault. asymmetric. Since the fault can be considered as an inverse power generator, the direction of flow of this power is a selective criterion which makes it possible to detect the location of the fault in relation to to the location of the control relay. antenna protection.
However, a relay sensitive only to to reverse power (that is, to a product containing reverse voltage and current) will not operate, when the one of these two terms is zero or extremely weak. These conditions are met in the following two cases: 1. If the antenna to to protect is connected to a network whose power is very high compared to to the power of the antenna, the fault current limited by the impedance of the antenna causes a very low drop in reverse voltage on the network. 2. If the antenna is connected to a network with very high reverse impedance, the reverse current is too low or zero.
This reverse current is zero in particular in the case where the antenna comprising at least one generator is not yet coupled to the network. The aim of the present invention is to create a device for protecting an antenna, which is more sensitive and more selective than the known devices, so as to to operate, in particular, in the two cases mentioned above. The principle on which the invention is based will be explained with reference to FIG. 1 of the drawing, which is a single line diagram showing an antenna connected to a network, and of FIG. 2 which is an inverse impedance diagram.
In fig. 1, M designates the antenna connected to the N, network at point 0, by a circuit breaker C whose opening is, in particular, controlled by a D. relay.
In the event of an asymmetrical fault occurring in the antenna, at point E for example, it appears at the location of the relay D an inverse voltage and current whose vector quotient is the inverse impedance Z of the N network at the moment when the fault occurs. This quotient is therefore independent of the position of the fault on the antenna. Likewise, for an asymmetric fault occurring in the network N, at point F for example, it appears at the location of the relay D a reverse voltage and current whose vector quotient is the reverse impedance Z of the antenna, at the time of the fault.
However, in a coordinate system, where the abscissa represents the reverse resistance R, and the ordinate, the reverse reactance X, the reverse impedance of the antenna is contained in the quadrant 1 ( fig. 2), while the inverse network impedance is contained in quadrant 3.
The different values (modules and arguments) of the reverse impedance of the antenna depend on the construction of the antenna. They will be determined for all the operating conditions of the latter (for example, number of receiving or generating machines in service in the antenna).
These different values of the reverse impedance of the antenna are inscribed in a zone L, preferably circular, the diameter and position of the center of which are such that inside of this zone is located. always the end of a vector such as OA representing the inverse impedance r of the antenna at the moment of an asymmetric fault in the N. network
At the time of an asymmetric fault occurring in the antenna M, we see that a vector such as OB representing the reverse impedance Z of the network at the time of this fault, even if this reverse impedance is very low, always has its end B clearly outside the circular zone.
We can therefore see that it is possible to obtain a selective device for the protection of an antenna, by using a relay sensitive to any value of the reverse impedance Z of the network which appears during a asymmetric fault in the antenna. This relay does not operate when the reverse impedance that appears is to inside the closed contour (interlock zone). It works for all reverse impedance values that appear outside outside this area.
No assumption is made on the geometrical shape of the closed contour of this zone. However, this contour will advantageously be a circle encompassing all the values that the reverse impedance of the antenna can take during an asymmetric fault in the network.
The protection device according to the invention comprises at least one relay, arranged at the connection point of the aerial, and of the network and supplied by the reverse voltages and currents which appear during asymmetric faults. This device is characterized in that said relay is provided with means by which it compares the reverse impedance determined by these currents and these voltages with at least one reference reverse impedance, the end of the representative vector of which coincides with a point charac teristic of a geometric figure containing the different values that the reverse impedance of the antenna can take during an asymmetric fault in the network,
the whole being arranged so that said relay does not operate when the end of the vector representative of the reverse impedance which appears during an asymmetrical fault is inside the aforesaid geometric figure, and works when the end of this vector is outside the outside of this geometric figure.
When the. aforesaid geometric figure 1 will be, for example, a circle, the end of the vector representing the inverse reference impedance cdincident with the center of this circle, or the respective ends of two vectors representing two inverse reference impedances determine a diameter of this circle.
Figs. 3 and 5 of the appended drawing represent, schematically and to by way of examples, two forms (the execution of the object of the invention. Fig. 4 and 6 are diagrams explaining respectively the operation of the relays of fig. 3 and 5.
In the device shown to in FIG. 3, 11, 12, 13, represent the three lines of a three-phase antenna. The secondaries of the three current transformers 14, 15, 16 feed a well-known reverse current filter 20. Such a filter comprises, for example, two circuits having a common point, one of which consists of by a resistance, the other by an impedance, the impedance being dimensioned in such a way that its modulus is equal to the value of the resistance and that the voltage between its terminals is shifted forward by 60o with respect to the current flowing through it. The secondaries of voltage transformers 17, 18 feed an equally well-known reverse voltage filter 21.
Such a filter comprises, for example, two circuits having a common point, one of which is constituted by a resistor and an inductance, and the other of which is constituted by a resistor and a capacitor, the different elements of these circuits being sized so that the voltages at their terminals are equal and offset by 600.
The output terminals of filter 20 are connected to a circuit having two impedances 22 and 23. The value of impedance 22 is Z1. The value of impedances 22 and 23 is Z2. 24 and 25 designate two coils of a relay. Their common end is connected to an output terminal of the reverse voltage filter 21. The other end of the coil 25 is connected to the end of impedance 23 connected to an output terminal of filter 20. The second output terminal of filter 21 is connected to the end of impedance 22 connected to an output terminal of the filter 20.
In this example, the reference impedances Z, and 4 have the same argument, but moduli of different values. 19 unties a contact whose closing is commanded by the mobile unit (not shown) of the relay when the torque which is exerted on said moving element is positive. Contact 19, when it is closed, causes the opening of the circuit breaker C (fig. 1), which separates the antenna network.
If an asymmetric fault occurs, either in the network or in the antenna, a reverse current I appears at the output terminals of the filter 20 and a reverse voltage U at the output terminals of the filter 21.
The voltage across the coil 24 is: U - Zj and the voltage across the coil 25 is : U - ZI.
The relay, whether of the electrodynamic, ferrodynamic or induction type, is made up so that the torque exerted on its moving part is zero when the two vectors representing the voltages 1 U - Zil 1 and 1 U - ZA 1 are shifted by 90 ,,, on torque being positive for any angle of these two vectors less than 900 and negative for any angle of these two vectors greater than than 90 ". The torque is therefore proportional to the real term of the product:
(U - Zjl) - (U - 7 #. I) The device shown in in fig. 5 is based on the principle of electromagnetic scales.
The relay of this device essentially comprises two coils 31 and 32 and a moving beam 33 which cooperates with contacts 35 </ B> and which is requested by the two coils. 34 denotes an impedance of value Zl. When no torque is exerted on the beam 3 3, or if the torques exerted on this beam are equal, the contacts 35 are open . It is the same if the torque exerted by the coil 32 is preponderant.
On the other hand, the contacts 35 close if the torque exerted by the coil 31 outweighs that exerted by the coil 32. </ B > The coil 32 and the impedance 34 are traversed by the reverse current 1 which appears at the terminals of a reverse current filter (not shown), when an asymmetric fault, either in the network or in the antenna. The electromagnetic torque produced in the coil 32 is proportional to 12. The coil 31 and the impedance 34 are subjected to < / B> a reverse voltage U which appears across a reverse voltage filter (not shown) during the aforementioned fault.
The electromagnetic torque produced in the coil 3 1 is proportional to: (U - Z11) 2.
The torque exerted on the movable beam 33 is zero when K (U - Z, 1) 2 = K '12, K and K' being constants which depend on the number of turns of the coils 31 and 32.

For a value of the inverse impedance r of the antenna represented by a vector such as OK, the end of which is on the circumference L 1 the vectors GK and HK, representing respectively the < B> Vector differences Ir - Z, 1 and 1 Z ' - Z2 < B> 1, make a right angle between them. As explained above, the torque exerted on the moving equipment of the relay is zero.
For any value of the inverse impedance r re presented by a vector the end of which is on the circumference LI, the torque exerted on the moving equi page of the relay is obviously zero. For any, value of the inverse impedance r represented by a vector such as OW for example, the end of which is within inside the circumference L1, the torque exerted on the mobile unit of the relay is negative (so that contact 19 remains open) because the angle GKH is greater than than 900. On the other hand,
for the values of the reverse impedance represented by vectors whose end is located outside the circumference LI and in particular for the values of the reverse impedance of the network determined by the vector quotient of the reverse voltage and current which appear at the location of the relay in the event of a fault in the antenna, the moving equipment of said relay is subjected to a positive torque and its contact 19 closes.

(fig. 6), whose center is the end P of the vector OP, representing the reverse impedance equal to to the reference impedance ZI.
For any value of the reverse impedance re presented by a vector such as OS whose end is on the circumference L. ,, the torque exerted on the mobile beam 33 of the relay 'is obviously zero. For any value of the inverse impedance r represented by a vector such as OS ', for example, the end of which is inside inside the circumference L2, the vector difference V - Z, = PS 'is smaller than PS. The torque exerted by the coil 32 is preponderant, so that the contacts 35 remain open.
On the other hand, for all the values of the inverse impedance represented by vectors whose end is situated outside the circumference 4 and, in particular, for the values of the inverse impedance of the network which appear at the location of the relay in the event of a fault in the antenna, the vector difference V - Z, is greater than PS. The torque exerted by the coil 31 is preponderant and the contacts 35 close.
