Device for coloring the image emitted by the cathode ray tube of a television set and method of manufacturing this device The present invention relates to a device for coloring the image emitted by the cathode ray tube of a television set, characterized in that it comprises a transparent support of which at least one of the faces is colored, said support being fixed in front of said image-forming cathode ray tube of said station.
A further subject of the invention is a method of manufacturing this device.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the device according to the invention. Fig. 1 is an elevational view of a transparent support from the side of its colored face.
Fig. 2 is a partial schematic view in longitudinal section of a television set equipped with the support shown in FIG. 1.
The device according to the invention is preferably executed as follows The transparent support consists of a plate of glass 1, for example mirrored glass, of rectangular shape, the thickness of which is between 2 and 5 mm . This plate, treated so as not to contain any manufacturing defect, has anterior and posterior faces that are strictly flat and parallel to each other, with a view to avoiding deformation of the image or to forming hazy images.
Said plate 1 could also be constituted by a sheet of polymethacrylate, for example plexiglass (registered trademark), of cellu loïd, of cellulose acetate, or even of another synthetic material. On one of the faces of the plate 1, for example the face 2, is applied, for example by means of a gun, layers of transparent paints.
These layers of paints of different colors are composed of a mixture of colorless varnish and a dye.
A colorless varnish is prepared in which it enters for 118 parts by weight, the following products in the proportions indicated below 24 kg of a nitrocellulose collodion with a viscosity of 70 sec.
16.5 kg of a nitrocellulose collodion with a viscosity of 0.5 sec.
3.5 kg of a synthetic resin solution, called cyclohexane 2 kg of ureaformol resin 1 kg of dibutylphthalate 2 kg of dioctylphthalate 13 kg of butyl acetate 10 kg of ethyl acetate 6 kg of methyl acetate 15 kg of light benzine 18 kg of xylol 4 kg of isopropyl alcohol 2 kg of butanol 1 kg of ethylene glycol.
This colorless varnish is then mixed with each of the following dyes in the proportions indicated. For a sky blue shade, 24 kg of phthalocyanine blue are added. For a light green shade, 25 kg of a dye composed of 23 kg of phthalocyanine and 2 kg of pure cellulose varnish, of yellow color are added.
For an orange-pink tint, 22 kg of a dye composed of 20 kg of pure cellulose varnish, red in color, and 2 kg of pure cellulose varnish, orange in color, varnishes usually designated by the term zapon, are added.
The composition of the colors thus obtained, the layers of paint are distributed in bands, for example horizontal bands, in the following manner: parallel to the upper edge 3 of the plate is applied a band of paint 4, of sky blue color, of which the width is between 3 and 10 cm, this shade being degraded towards the middle of the screen.
Parallel to the lower edge 5 of the plate is applied a strip of paint 6, of light green color, of the same width as the strip 4, this hue being degraded in the direction of the middle of the screen. Finally, a median strip 7, included between strips 4 and 6, is painted an orange-pink color, said median strip being subdivided, for example into five horizontal stripes 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12, alternately lighter and darker, bands 8, 10 and 12 being their light orange pink in color and bands 9 and 11 being their dark orange pink.
It is obvious that the width of the bands as well as the shade of the tints is determined according to the dimensions of the plate and, consequently, to the size of the television set on which it is mounted.
In the case of a small plate, the colors will be less dark and more spaced than for a large one, in order to obtain in both cases the same contrast of shadows and lights according to the movement of the image on the plate. .
In order to increase the effect of contrast between the shadows and the lights of the images projected on the plate 1, it would be possible to provide light areas 7 ', spaced apart, distributed over the entire extent of the middle band 7 of pink orange color. , which would also have the advantage of creating the illusion of relief for the viewer.
Thus manufactured, the plate 1 is mounted on a television set 13 (fig. 2) by fixing it, for example by means of sticky plugs 14, against a protective glass 15, placed in front of a cathode ray tube 16, image transmitter. , the tinted face 2 of the plate 1 being placed on the side of the usual glass 15.
The method of fixing the plate 1 varies according to the type of television set on which it is mounted. It could be fixed, for example by means of a frame, either by clamps or even juxta pose it to the front face of the protective screen 15. Finally, it could be fixed in place of said screen 15, directly in front of the screen. the cathode ray tube 16. The orange pink color of the middle band 7 has the advantage of keeping the light tones their natural color without influencing the very dark tones.
Thanks to the degradation of the tints applied to the face 2 of the plate 1 and to the presence of the light areas 7 ′, a pleasant contrast effect is obtained to 1 ′ # i1 of the viewer. When the image of a moving person, wearing clothes of both light and dark shades, moves across the screen, the very dark parts are not influenced by the screen while the darker parts are not affected by the screen. light takes on a slightly pinkish hue and the light parts a very warm pinkish tone.
The bright white shade parts become a soft, clear white which does not tire the eye. Depending on the movement of the televised person and the intensity of the lighting when the picture is taken, the television viewer will see a set of natural contrasts.
If the image reproduced by tube 16 represents landscapes, the glaciers appear on plate 1 tinted with a very attenuated and luminous pink white, the forest, in black brown with lighter reflections, the waves on the water take the appearance of small glitters surrounded by shadows, a cloudless sky appears partially blue, since its image is likely to encroach on bands 4 and 8. The same is true of the grass that appears on the The screen is partially green, its image being liable to affect bands 6 and 8.
Among the main advantages of the device described, it should be mentioned that thanks to its colored face, it makes it possible to increase the light intensity and the contrast effect of the image lamp of the television set without inconvenience. it is mounted so as to bring out the shadows and lights in the image, the flicker of the image being completely suppressed.
In addition, the vivid whites of the image are softened and the tonal distribution is regularized. The contrasts and the natural aspect of the picture are increased, the visible defects of the characters appearing in the foreground on the colored screen are eliminated as well as the defects resulting from the projection of used films. The device described eliminates all fatigue for the eyes of the viewers, even during a vision lasting several hours. Finally, it no longer requires the viewer to stay away from the television set.
