6-Methyl-octen-(5)-on-(2),
6-Methyl-octanon-(2),
6, 8-Dimethyl-nonen-(5)-on-(2),
6, 8-Dimethyl-nonanon-(2),
5 -Cyclohexyliden-pentanon-(2),
5-Cyclohexyl-pentanon-(2).
Process for the production of new unsaturated alcohols
The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of new unsaturated alcohols, which is characterized in that acetylene is added to an unsaturated ketone of the formula via an organometallic compound
EMI1.1
in which the 5,6 double bond can be saturated, Rt is an alkyl radical with 2-5 carbon atoms and R2 is either the methyl radical or, together with the radical Rt, the pentamethylene radical, is added, whereupon the resulting acetylene carbinol of the formula
EMI1.2
in which the 6.7 double bond can be saturated, the triple bond can be partially hydrogenated.
The starting ketones of the above formula can be prepared by adding an alcohol of the formula
EMI1.3
in which Rt is an alkyl radical with 2-5 carbon atoms and R2 is either the methyl radical or, together with the radical Rj, the pentamethylene radical, treated with an inorganic halogenating agent, the substituted primary allyl halide formed is condensed with an alkali acetoacetic ester and the substituted acetoacetic ester formed is saponified and decarboxylated.
The starting ketones obtained in this way can also be catalytically hydrogenated to saturate the 5,6 double bond. For example, the following can be used as starting ketones:
6-methyl-octen- (5) -one- (2),
6-methyl-octanone- (2),
6, 8-dimethyl-nonen- (5) -one- (2),
6, 8-dimethyl-nonanone- (2),
5 -cyclohexylidene-pentanone- (2),
5-cyclohexylpentanone- (2).
The addition of the ketone to acetylene in liquid ammonia by means of sodium is expedient.
For example, metallic sodium is dissolved in liquid ammonia and acetylene is passed until the sodium has converted to the acetylide, after which the ketone is slowly added in an inert solvent. The acetylene carbinol obtained can now be partially hydrogenated at the triple bond.
This is advantageously done catalytically in the presence of a lead-deactivated palladium catalyst, e.g. B. the Lindlar catalyst (Helvetica Chimica Acta 35, 446 [1952]).
The new compounds have hitherto unknown, new odor nuances and can be used for the production of fragrance mixtures and perfumes or as intermediate products in the synthesis of fragrances.
example 1
84 g of metallic sodium are dissolved in 3 liters of liquid ammonia and acetylene is allowed to flow into the resulting solution with stirring until the initially blue solution has become colorless.
A solution of 420 g of 6-methyl-octen (5) -one- (2) in 500 cm of diethyl ether is then added dropwise to this reaction mixture, likewise with stirring, over the course of one hour. The reaction mixture is then stirred for a further three hours, acetylene gas being allowed to flow in slowly at the same time. The supply of acetylene is then interrupted, but the reaction mixture is stirred for a further 15 hours. The ammonia is then distilled off and the residue remaining in the reaction vessel is washed with 2 liters of 50% aqueous sulfuric acid.
The product is then washed with water, dried over anhydrous calcium sulfate and fractionated to give the 3, 7-dimethylnonene (6) -in- (1) -ol- (3), which distills at 890 CI10 mm; n2D = 1 4612 This compound has an odor that is generally reminiscent of bergamot oil.
300 g of the 3,7-dimethylnonene (6) in (1) -ol- (3) obtained in this way, 30 g of a 50% above lead-palladium catalyst on calcium carbonate (Lindlar, Helvetica Chimica Acta 35, 446 [ 1952]) and 300 cm of petroleum ether are introduced into a flask equipped with a stirrer and for so long at a hydrogen pressure of 1 atm. hydrogenated at 25300 C until 1.9 mol of hydrogen is consumed. The 3,7-dimethylnonadiene - (1,6) - ol - (3) is obtained by fractionating the product obtained; Sdp. 132 "C 86 mm, n 25 = 1.4603. This compound has a smell that is reminiscent of citrus fruits.
Example 2
26 g of metallic sodium are dissolved in 1 liter of liquid ammonia and acetylene is passed into this solution with stirring until the deep blue color of the solution has turned white. 159 g of 5-cyclohexylidene-pentanone- (2), dissolved in 200 cm3 of diethyl ether, are then added dropwise to the reaction mixture over the course of one hour, while stirring. The reaction mixture is stirred for a further 3 hours and at the same time a slow stream of acetylene is passed in. The supply of acetylene is then interrupted and the reaction mixture is stirred for a further 15 hours. The ammonia is then distilled off and the residue is washed with 2 liters of 50 / above aqueous sulfuric acid. Finally the product is washed with water and dried over calcium sulfate.
At the
Fractionation gives 6-cyclohexylidene-3-methyl-hexyn- (1) -ol- (3), which distills at 75o C / 0.2 mm; n2.5 = 1.490.
117 g (0.6 mol) of 6-cyclohexylidene-3-methyl-hexyne (1) -ol- (3), 20 g of a 5% lead-palladium catalyst on calcium carbonate (after Lindlar, loc. Cit.) and 100 cms of petroleum ether are introduced into a flask equipped with an effective stirrer.
The material is at a hydrogen pressure of
1 atm. and a temperature of 25300 C until the hydrogen uptake has ceased. This requires 0.6 moles of hydrogen. The catalyst is then filtered off and the resulting product is fractionated. In this way, 6-cyclohexylidene-3-methyl-hexen- (1) -ol- (3) is obtained, which distills at 730 ° C./0.2 mm; n2r5 1.489. The product obtained in this way has a musty odor reminiscent of fresh earth and mushrooms, and is suitable as an odor-imparting agent in particular in those cases in which an earthy accent is desired in addition to a flower-like fragrance.
Example 3
41.4 g of metallic sodium are dissolved in 1.5 liters of liquid ammonia and this solution is treated with acetylene gas until the blue-colored solution has become colorless. The supply of acetylene is then maintained for a further 30 minutes, whereupon a solution of 252 g of 6,8-dimethylnonene (5) -one (2) in 250 cm of ethyl ether is allowed to drip into the solution over the course of 45 minutes.
The mixture is stirred for a further 15 hours and at the same time a weak stream of acetylene gas is passed into the reaction mixture.
The ammonia is then evaporated from the reaction mixture with the aid of a weak stream of nitrogen and the residue is poured into 2 liters of 50% sulfuric acid. The oily layer is then removed and washed neutral with water.
Fractionation gives 3, 7, 9-trimethyldecen- (6) -in- (1) -ol- (3), which distills at 720 C135 mm; n = 1.4598.
189 g of 3,7,9-trimethyl-decen- (6) -in- (1) -ol- (3) are diluted with an equal volume of petroleum ether and together with 18.9 g of a 5% lead palladium catalyst on calcium carbonate (after Lindlar, loc. Cit.) entered in a flask. Then the reaction product becomes so long at a hydrogen pressure of 1 atm. hydrogenated until 0.97 mol of hydrogen are consumed. When the reaction mixture is fractionated, 3,7,9-trimethyl-decadiene- (1,6) -ol- (3) is obtained, which distills at 1290 ° C./20 mm; n D = 1.4592.
The product obtained has a wood odor with a floral scent-like accent, which is reminiscent of the scent of lily of the valley and can be used as a perfume base in order to impart the aforementioned scent to perfume compositions of the May bell, lilac and rose types.
Example 4
To prepare the starting material, 890 g (5.3 mol) of 6,8-dimethyl-nonene (5) -one (2) in the presence of 20 g of a palladium-lead catalyst applied to carbon at a pressure of 70 kg / cm- and a temperature of 80-90 "C. The hydrogenation is complete after consumption of 5.3 mol of hydrogen. The catalyst is filtered off and the 6,8-dimethyl-nonanone- (2) is obtained by fractionation. The yield is 778.2 g or 85.1% of theory.
To carry out the process according to the invention, a three-necked flask equipped with a dry ice cooler is charged with 2 liters of liquid ammonia. Then 48.3 g of sodium are dissolved in liquid ammonia. Acetylene is then passed from a pressure vessel through a sulfuric acid wash bottle and this acetylene is allowed to flow into the reaction flask until the blue color has changed into a greenish-white color. It takes 2 hours to complete this process. The addition of acetylene is then reduced to about 100% of the amount originally supplied.
340 g of 6,8-dimethylnonanone (2), dissolved in an equal volume of ethyl ether, are allowed to drip into the reaction mixture within 30 minutes. The mixture is stirred for an additional 16 hours while passing a gentle stream of acetylene through the solution. The dry ice condenser is then removed and most of the ammonia is distilled off. One liter of water is carefully added to the residue. Then the oily layer is removed, washed neutral and fractionated to give 3, 7,9-trimethyldecyn- (1) -ol- (3), which distills at 78.5 "Cd0.15 mm; n2D = 1.4448 .
The yield is 356.6 g or 91 / o of theory.
356.5 g of 3,7,9-trimethyl-decyn- (1) -ol- (3) are dissolved in 500 cm3 of petroleum ether and hydrogenated in the presence of a palladium-lead catalyst applied to carbon. The hydrogenation is interrupted as soon as 1.8 mol of hydrogen have been consumed. The catalyst is filtered off and the product is allowed to distill through a column. In this way 331 g of 3,7,9-trimethyl-decen- (1) -ol- (3) are obtained, which distills at 107-108 "C12 mm; n2r5 = 1.4430-1.4440.
The yield is 91.7 / o of the theoretical value.
Example 5
29 g of metallic sodium are cut into small pieces of about 0.25 g and dissolved in 1 liter of liquid ammonia. Acetylene gas is then passed into this solution with stirring until the deep blue color has turned into a white color, after which acetylene is passed in for a further 30 minutes. On the other hand, 149 g of 6-methyl-octanone- (2) are dissolved in 250 cms of ethyl ether and this solution is allowed to drip into the reaction flask within 30 minutes. A gentle stream of acetylene gas is then allowed to flow into the reaction mixture over a period of 3 hours with stirring, and the supply of acetylene gas is continued overnight in a nitrogen atmosphere.
The ammonia is then evaporated after removing the dry ice cooler and a weak stream of nitrogen is introduced into the flask. The reaction product is then poured into one liter of 50% sulfuric acid and the resulting oily layer is removed, washed with water and dried over anhydrous calcium sulfate. Fractionation gives 3,7-dimethyl-nonyne- (1) -ol- (3), which distills at 112 "C120 mm; n2D5 = 14443.
125 g of 3, 7-dimethyl-nonyn- (1) -ol- (3) are introduced into a flask together with 125 cm3 of n-heptane and 20 g of a lead palladium catalyst on calcium carbonate. The material is then subjected to a hydrogen pressure of 1 atm. and hydrogenated at room temperature until 0.74 mol of hydrogen are consumed. The catalyst is then filtered off and the product is subjected to fractional distillation. At 480 cm 0.3 mm the 3, 7-dimethyl-nonen-1-ol (3) distills; n2D5 = 1.4450. It spreads a pleasant, flower-like fragrance, which is reminiscent of the rose scent.
