Circuit arrangement for gas discharge tubes, in particular fluorescent lamps, with a leakage transformer or a stray choke coil as ballast. The invention relates to a circuit arrangement for gas discharge tubes, in particular fluorescent lamps, with a leakage transformer or a leakage choke coil as ballast.
It is known that the ionization conditions required to ignite a fluorescent lamp can be achieved by heating the cathodes of the discharge space.
According to a known circuit, which is shown in FIG. 1, the transformer 2, the primary winding 4 of which is connected in parallel with the gas discharge lamp 1, generates the currents required for heating the lamp cathodes in the windings 5 and 6. After the gas discharge lamp 1 has been ignited, the primary voltage of the transformer 2 collapses to the value of the operating voltage of the gas discharge lamp 1. As a result, the voltage on the heating windings 5 and 6 also drops; the cathodes should now only be heated by the discharge current, but this is not the case.
The disadvantage of the further heating of the cathodes by the heating coils 5 and 6 and the disadvantage of two separate electromagnetic systems are eliminated by the invention.
The invention provides a circuit arrangement for gas discharge tubes, in particular fluorescent lamps, with a stray transformer or stray choke coil as ballast and with ignition by preheating and stabilization with the aid of an essentially reactive impedance. The invention is characterized in that the stabilizing inductance is electromagnetically coupled to the preheating transformer.
According to the invention, this coupling takes place in such a way that the flow through at least the winding parts that are used for preheating depends on the operating state of the tube, with scatter paths being created in order to achieve the required coupling so that webs remain in the iron core common for the coupling and at least two windings are separated from each other by ferromagnetic shield windings which at least partially cover the coils.
The leakage transformer is preferably set in such a way that the part of the magnetic field which comes from the burning current in the ballast inductance and which penetrates the heating windings is compensated for by that of the primary winding of the pre-heating transformer when the lamp is lit.
According to a further variant, the single iron core is subdivided by corresponding gaps so that the coils can be assembled and the device can be electrically set.
Finally, a further variant provides that the iron core is composed of several individual cores made of sheet metal with different mechanical and magnetic properties.
An embodiment of the subject matter of the invention will now be explained with reference to FIGS. 2 and 3. Fig. 2 shows the circuit, while Fig. 3 shows an example of the mechanical design of the series transformer and the series reactor.
The gas discharge lamp 1 is fed again by preheating windings 10 and 11 and thereby ignited. The invention now consists partly in that the transformer 7 is magnetically coupled to the ballast inductance 8 of the lamp circuit.
It can thereby be achieved that the inductance resulting from the burning current of the series inductance 8

Part of the magnetic flux that passes through the heating windings 10 and 11 is compensated by that of the primary winding 9 of the preheating transformer 7 and no external voltages at all are induced in the heating windings 10 and 11 when the gas discharge lamp 1 has ignited. It is therefore possible to preheat the gas discharge lamp 1 with a significantly higher current than in the known arrangement according to FIG. 1 and thus achieve a considerably more reliable and faster ignition response than in the known arrangements.
In order that the flux in the primary winding 9 of the ballast is not influenced too much by the flux of the ballast inductance 8, it is necessary for the primary winding 9 to have a corresponding magnetic scatter.
This can be achieved simply by building the preheating transformer 7 together with the series inductance 8 according to FIG. 3. The heating windings 10 and 11 are applied around the core of the iron body 12, which is stray-coupled to the series inductance. The primary winding 9 is applied separately from the heating windings 10 and 11 by a few layers of highly permeable ferromagnetic material 13 and thus has the required degree of scatter with respect to these and the series inductance 8.
By appropriately dimensioning the magnetic resistance of the leakage paths, that portion of the flux that originates from the series inductance 8, which is necessary to compensate for the portion originating from the primary winding 8, can be passed through the heating windings 10 and 11.
