Dispenser-metering for centralized installation of distribution of liquid The present invention relates to a dispenser-metering intended for use in installations of liquid. centralized distribution of liquid of the type comprising such a distributor at each point where the liquid is to be distributed, for example a bearing or other moving member that must be lubricated from a central lubrication device consisting of a pump hand or automatic connected on the one hand to a lubricant tank,
on the other hand at the two opposite ends of each distributor via a reversing valve.
The metering-distributors of the type in question have hitherto been made in two elements mounted respectively in cylinder bores arranged parallel to one another, namely a metering piston and a slide for controlling the movement of said piston. . As in each installation, there must be as many dispenser-metering units as there are elements to be lubricated, such devices constitute a significant cost item in the installation. The invention aims precisely to provide a positive displacement metering-dispenser, but of simple construction and comprising only one cylinder body.
The dispenser-metering device according to the invention comprises a cylinder body comprising two communicating cylinders, of different diameters, arranged one after the other, and containing the same sliding piston-slide device, the smaller cylinder diameter meter playing the role of filling cylinder, while the larger diameter cylinder serves as a distribution cylinder, these cylinders communicating through their opposite ends with a source of pressurized liquid, the larger diameter cylinder being provided with a outlet light intended to be connected through a non-return valve to the point where the liquid is to be dispensed,
the large-diameter part of the piston-slide comprising a slot intended to cooperate with the aforementioned outlet slot and connected by a channel to the end of said large-diameter part closest to the smaller-diameter part, and this part with a smaller diameter being itself provided with at least one lateral lumen connected to its outer end and arranged so as to open into the cylinder of larger diameter when the piston-slide has moved towards the free end of the latter and that the opening provided on the large-diameter part of the piston-slide is no longer in line with the outlet opening of said larger-diameter cylinder.
In a particular embodiment, the delivery stroke of the slide piston can be controlled by an electromagnet with a plunger core fixed to the end of this slide piston opposite to the inlet of the filling cylinder, this electromagnet being energized at the end of the piston-slide filling stroke. In addition, this stroke can be controlled by hydraulic or mechanical means independent of the pump and put into action at the end of the filling stroke of the piston-slide valve. In another embodiment, a visual device for checking the operation of the distributor can be produced by providing the slide piston with an axial extension.
This extension can be made in the form of a rod of small diameter projecting from the cylinder and engaged inside a part provided with an axial adjustment screw, so that not only is an indication of the movement of the piston-slide, but it is also possible to regulate the amplitude of its movement and, consequently, the quantity dispensed of the lubricant or the like. When the useful distribution stroke is achieved by an electromagnet or by mechanical means, only one pipe is needed from the pump, which pipe is used to fill the distributors.
The electromagnet circuit can be combined with electrical indicating devices controlled at the end of the filling or priming stroke of the piston-slide. To reduce the cost of manufacturing the dispenser the large and small diameter parts of the slide piston can be made as separate parts.
It will be understood that with the distributor according to the invention, the slide piston in fact constitutes both a distributor piston and a slide valve, and the presence of a single cylinder body and in fact of a single movable part allows a very simple and economical realization.
According to a particular embodiment which makes it possible to use a single looped pipe instead of two, the slide piston is produced as defined above, but bypass passages are made in the body of the cylinders between the cylinders. filling and distribution ends on the one hand, and the larger diameter cylinder on the other hand, which passages communicate respectively by means of non-return valves and openings which are exposed by the part with a large diameter of the piston-slide when the latter is at the end of its distribution and filling runs.
With such an arrangement, the metering-distributors are filled successively, because, when a distributor is at the start of its filling stroke, the lubricant or the like pushes the piston-slide towards the distribution end of the cylinders, thus filling the end of the filling cylinder, until the bypass lumen is exposed. The lubricant can then pass through the valve and the by-pass passage to thus reach the filling inlet of the following metering-dispenser and so on, up to the last distributor connected to the pipe. When this is achieved, the lubricant returns to the tarpaulin through the double reversing valve.
We can then reverse the direction of the lubricant flow; the latter is forced back into the outlet end of the last distributor, which has the effect of pushing the piston-slide thereof towards the cylinder filling inlet and consequently causing the lubricant to flow back to the bearing or another organ intended to receive it. When this is done, the lubricant passes through the bypass passage to exit through the inlet of the distributor body and reach the exit of the next distributor, and so on until reaching the double reversing valve again and go back to the tarp.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, several embodiments and variants of the metering-dispenser, as well as installation diagrams using metering-dispensers that are the subject of the invention.

Figs. 11 and 14 are diagrams of some lubrication installations using metering-dispensers according to the invention.
Fig. 15 is an axial vertical section showing two distributors - metering units arranged on a single body and of the type with parallel or non-progressive operation.
Fig. 16 is an end view corresponding to FIG. 15, the piston-slides supposedly removed. Figs. 17 and 18 are schematic vertical sections of a body with two and three distributors, respectively, arranged to operate in series or in a progressive manner. Fig. 19 is a view similar to those of FIGS. 17 and 18 and showing a multibody arrangement having several elements bolted together. Fig. 20 is a diagram of a non-progressive two-pipe installation using multiple distributors.
Referring more particularly to FIGS. 1 and 2, A designates a distributor body comprising a large-diameter cylinder 1 and a small-diameter coaxial cylinder 2, intended to receive a single slide-piston B with two diameters, the two parts B1 and B2 of this slide-piston being hereinafter referred to respectively as large and small diameter parts. The free ends of cylinders 1 and 2 are intended to be connected by T-shaped C connectors to the discharge of a lubricant pump via an version valve placed in the installation.
On the side of the body A is arranged a lateral boss A1 in which is formed a bore 3 which opens into the large cylinder 1 and which is intended to be connected to a bearing to be lubricated. A ball and spring check valve C1 is mounted in the bore 3. On the large diameter part B1 of the spool piston B is formed an annular groove 4 intended to correspond with the bore 3 when this part Bl abuts against a shoulder 5 created between the two cylinders. An oblique channel 6 is formed between the corresponding shoulder 7 of the slide piston and the annular groove 4.
The small-diameter part B2 of the piston-slide is axially bored from its free end, as shown at 8, to communicate with a transverse channel 9 hollowed out in said part. The outlet of this channel 9 is located at a distance from the shoulder 7 such that it is only discovered when the annular groove 4 is not located in line with the internal outlet of the bore 3 in the body 1. .
During operation, when the left-hand port C is connected to the outlet of the lubricant pump, the oil. under pressure enters the cylinder 2 by pushing the piston-slide B towards the cylinder 1. When the outlet of the transverse channel 9 exceeds the shoulder 5 and arrives in the large diameter cylinder 1, the liquid is admitted into the annular space 10 formed in this cylinder 1 between the shoulder 5 and the shoulder 5 and the shoulder 7 of the slide-piston, and it passes through the channel 6 to arrive in the annular groove 4. But it cannot pass through the bore 3 to reach the bearing to be lubricated, since the groove 4 is not in line with the outlet of this bore.
After filling these spaces, the oil exerts all of its pressure on the piston-slide valve B, driving it towards the right end of its stroke where it is stopped by an adjustable screw (not shown) provided on the corresponding connection C. The distributor is then filled or primed, and when the pressure of the oil is exerted on the opposite end of the body, that is to say in the cylinder 1, the piston-slide B is pushed back towards the cylinder 2 When the channel 9 is closed by the cylinder 2, the annular groove 4 coincides with the bore 3.
The oil trapped in the annular space 10 passes through the channel 6 of the piston B and, through the annular groove 4, it arrives in the outlet bore 3 and thus reaches the bearing. The ball valve C1 disposed in the bore 3 prevents any return of oil to the piston B during the next priming cycle.
For proper operation, cylinders 1 and 2 must therefore be pressurized alternately. This type of metering-dispenser must be classified in the category of non-progressive devices with two twin supply channels.
By providing the piston with a protruding rod, or by magnetizing this piston, or by proceeding in any other analogous manner, the operation of the mechanism can be observed externally.
The dispenser-doser shown in fig. 3 and 4 is similar to that of FIGS. 1 and 2, but it is modified so that it can be used in a progressive operation installation with a single supply line. AA denotes the body and BB the piston-slide, BB1 and BB2 being the parts with a large and small diameter respectively; 11 and 12 are the bores of the large and small diameter cylinders, while 13 and 14 designate threads for connecting the entire distributor in series to a single looped supply line.
In the vicinity of the end of the larger diameter cylinder 11 closest to the cylinder 12 is provided a lumen 15 which communicates through a non-return valve 16 with a lumen 17 connected to the opposite end of the cylinder 11. lights 15 and 17 is provided a light 18 which communicates by a second non-return valve 19 with a light 20 opening into the small diameter cylinder 12.
21 designates an adjustable stopper comprising an off-center orifice 21a. This stopper 21 stops the piston-slide BB at the end of its priming stroke. The end BB3 comprises diametral and axial channels 22 and 23, respectively, which allow the oil to pass through said end when it is stopped by the stop 21.
The opposite end BB2 is arranged in the same way and thus comprises channels 24 and 25. 26 designates the oblique channel, 27 the shoulder between the small and the large cylinders, 28 the annular space between the shoulder 27 and the large diameter part BB1 of the slide-piston BB, and 29 the annular groove formed in this piston, all as in the case of the embodiment of FIGS. 1 and 2. 30 is the lateral bore communicating with the bearing to be lubricated, and which may contain a valve to prevent the return of oil during the operation following that considered.
During operation, the small-diameter cylinder 12 first receives the oil pressure which drives the piston-slide BB towards the large-diameter cylinder 11. When the channel 24 opens into this cylinder 11, the oil can pass and fills the space 28, the channel 26 and the annular groove 29 as in the previous embodiment.
The piston-slide BB is then subjected to all of the pressure prevailing in the supply pipe and it is driven into the cylinder 11 up to the adjustable stop 21, thus uncovering the port 15 in which the oil passes while passing through. the valve 16 to fall through the light 17 into the annular space between the cylinder 11 and the reduced diameter end BB3 of the piston BB. From there, the oil passes through the axial channel 23 formed in this end, passes through the orifice 21a of the adjustable stopper and arrives in the threaded part 13 from where it reaches the part of the pipe which is connected to it. During this phase, the oil primed the distributor before passing through it to follow the looped pipe.
When the oil supply is reversed and the cylinder 11 is pressurized, the flow of oil is stopped by the valve 16. All of the pressure is then available to force the piston BB towards the cylinder 12. When the channel 24 has passed the shoulder 27, the oil trapped in the annular space 28 is expelled through the channel 26, the annular groove 29 and the bore 30 to the bearing to be lubricated.
While the annular space 28 is progressively reduced in volume by the movement of the piston towards the cylinder 12, the annular space formed between the end BB3 of the piston and the large-diameter cylinder 11 manages to communicate with the slot 18. by allowing the liquid to pass in bypass through the loaded valve 19, the lumen 20 and the channels 24 and 25 to thus arrive in the cylinder 12 and return to the supply line.
If the lumen 20 is placed closer to the free end of the small-diameter cylinder 12, the oil which passes through in bypass can thus enter the latter cylinder beyond the limit of the piston stroke. -drawer and not having to pass through channels 24 and 25, which consequently reduces pressure drops.
If we remove the automatic valves 16 and 19, we understand that the metering-dispenser then falls into the category of non-progressive single-channel devices, but, in such an arrangement, it is not possible to provide a signal indicating operation. individual distributors as in the case of using bypass channels controlled by the distributor.
Fig. 5 shows a variant of the embodiment of FIGS. 3 and 4, with the aim of remedying the difficulties encountered in correctly reaming the two coaxial cylinders containing the piston-slide in a single piece with two diameters shown in these figures. For this purpose, the small diameter cylinder is arranged in a separate part 38 screwed into a thread 31 formed in the main body which, except for this particular arrangement, is identical to that shown in FIG. 3. The small diameter portion of the piston-slide is made as a separate element 33 which abuts against the end of the large diameter portion 34.
The part 38 can be forced into the bore 31 instead of being screwed therein. Where appropriate, two bores that are not perfectly coaxial can be provided in a one-piece body.
Figs. 6 and 7 show another variant also aimed at overcoming the difficulties of coaxial boring of the two cylinders. In this embodiment, the slide piston is still in two parts, but the bores of the two cylinders, provided in the same body, are not necessarily coaxial (the smaller diameter cylinder can also be provided in an attached part , as in fig. 5). The piston-slide comprises a part 35 of small diameter, bored so as to receive the thinned end 36a of a part 36 of large diameter connected with play to part 35 by means of a pin 37.
This arrangement allows the automatic alignment of the two parts of the piston-slide. To simplify the embodiment, the threads forming fittings are of large diameter, as shown at 38a and at 39, so as to receive the ends of large pipes containing non-return valves or the like. As the large diameter part of the piston-slide is made in separate form, the oblique channel is replaced by Jongitu- dinal channels 40.
Fig. 8 shows another variant embodiment of the slide piston. In this variant, the small-diameter cylinder 41 is provided in a stopper 42 fixed by screwing in a housing 43 of the distributor body, so as to avoid having to coaxially bore the large and the small cylinders. An annular seal 44 or the like can be used to provide the seal between the two cylinders. The large-diameter part 45 and the small-diameter part 46 of the slide piston are made as separate elements, the part 46 being thinned at 46a at one of its ends to be engaged in a bore 45a formed in the part. 45.
The two parts of the piston-slide are connected by a pin 48 which passes with clearance through the transverse holes formed in the end 46a of the part 46 and in the portion of the part 45 which is located in line with the annular groove 47. Because of the clearances between the parts, a passage is thus created between the annular groove 47 of the large diameter part 45 and the shoulder formed by the left end of this part, this passage replacing the oblique channel provided in the pistons previously described.
To avoid drilling or grooving the ends of the piston, flats 49 have been formed by grinding allowing the passage of oil when necessary. 49a designates a perforated stopper which limits the stroke of the large-diameter part 45 of the piston-slide.
Figs. 9 and 10 show on a larger scale an alternative embodiment of the small-diameter part 50 of a double piston-slide. This part 50 is integral with a cylindrical head 51 and its opposite end comprises a ground flat portion 50a, the diameter of the part 50 corresponding to the small cylinder 41 and the diameter of the head 51 being slightly smaller than that of the large cylinder. so as to allow the passage of oil during the priming or compression stroke, but at the same time to act as a discharge element to force the oil to pass as soon as the flat 50a has entered completely into the bore of the small cylinder.
It is obvious that one can adapt to the embodiments described above the realization of the small cylinder in a snap cap worn 42.
If we now refer to fig. 11 to 15 which show some typical diagrams for the use of metering-dispensers according to the invention, FIG. 11 shows a non-progressive operation double supply duct installation controlled by hand. The oil coming from the pump 53 is sent through line 52, as indicated by the arrow, into a reversing valve 54 which routes it alternately on one side and the other of metering-distributors 55 - which are of the kind shown in FIGS. 1 and 2 - the side of the distributors not subjected to the pressure being simultaneously connected to the pump cover by the valve 54 and a pipe 56.
Fig. 12 shows a diagram of a hand-operated, single looped, steplessly operated installation, in which the oil exiting pump 53 arrives through line 52 to the reversing valve 54, passing through it in turn. each of the distributors 57 - of the type of that of FIGS. 3 and 4 - and returns via the reversing valve 54 to the pump cover. The metering-distributors are loaded and emptied alternately by reversing the liquid current through valve 54.
Fig. 13 shows a completely automatic installation with two non-progressive working lines, in which the oil leaving the pump 53 is sent through the reversing valve 54 alternately on one side and on the other of the distributors 55 and of a time mechanism 58. Automatic operation is obtained by means of a device of known type which can be controlled either by pressure, or mechanically (by ratchet or with continuous rotation), or electrically. Of course, automatic control of the cycle can be obtained by means of electrical or mechanical devices acting on the pump.
Fig. 14 shows a diagram similar to that of FIG. 13, but concerning a progressive operation single-pipe installation for metering-distributors 57.
Figs. 15 and 16 show an example of multiple metering dispensers. This embodiment often allows a simpler and less expensive scheme to be produced by requiring only a single set of inlet and outlet fittings on a multiple body containing several metering units, each of which has its own outlet pipe. Any number of distributors can be arranged in such a multiple body, although for simplicity of explanation only two slide pistons 59, made in one piece, have been shown in the drawing. This multiple body is intended for an installation with non-progressive operation.
The distributors are arranged in parallel cylinders 61 and 62 of large and small diameter, provided in a body 60, the small diameter cylinders 62 opening into a common supply channel 63, while the cylinders with small diameter. large-diameter meter 61 open into a common return channel 64, each of the two large-diameter cylinders comprising its outlet opening 65 intended to be connected, through a non-return valve 65a, with a bearing to be lubricated. It is obvious that any one of the slide pistons described above can be used.
The slide pistons may include a control device in the form of a rod 66 slidably mounted in an oil-tight bushing 67, said rod being either integral with the small diameter part of the slide piston, or coupled to this. part, as shown; the socket 67 is cut at two opposite points so that the rod 66 is visible from the outside to indicate the operation of the device. The length of the piston-spool stroke can be changed by adjusting the stop screw 68.
Figs. 17 and 18 schematically show multiple bodies 69 and 70 for two and three metering-distributors, respectively, mounted in a progressive operation installation; the cylinders 71 of these bodies are connected in series by channels 72 while the supply and return pipes 73 and 74 are arranged at the respectively opposite ends of the bodies.
Fig. 19 shows two of the bodies of FIG. 18 bolted together, with the interposition of washers or appropriate joints (not shown), by rods or bolts 75 so as to produce a set of six dispenser-metering units.
In all cases, the outlets of the distributors leading to the bearings to be lubricated may include non-return valves similar to those in fig. 15 and 16, these valves can also be arranged in external housings.
Fig. 20 is a simplified diagram of a non-progressive double-pipe installation comprising several multiple blocks of the type shown in FIGS. 15 and 16; there is shown in the form of separate assemblies a body 76 with three dispenser-metering devices, a body 77 with five dispensers and a body 78 with two dispensers. The arrows 79 starting from the different bodies indicate the outlet channels leading to the various levels. The connections of the distributors with the supply pipe are identical to those described with reference to fig. 13.
It will be understood that in all of the arrangements described above, the filling takes place by means of the small diameter cylinder and the distribution by the large diameter cylinder.
The distributors described make it possible to extract oil from a hydraulic oil device mounted on a machine or the like and to use it in the lubrication installation of this machine, the diagrams of FIGS. 11 to 14 and fig. 20 also applying to such a position with the only difference that the pump is replaced by the own pressure of the hydraulic device.
Likewise, it is possible to distribute two liquids simultaneously from a non-progressive double-pipe installation, in which, for example, the metering-distributors are placed in such a way that those intended to distribute grease by For example, have their feed channels connected to the grease line while those having to distribute oil have their feed channels connected to the oil line.
In addition, in an installation operating by hand or mechanically, it is possible to connect to the same lever or the like a series of piston-spools arranged in their respective cylinders; these pistons can be controlled simultaneously so as to constitute a lubricating system with multiple outputs distributing a determined quantity of oil at each bearing, or they can be controlled one after the other to produce an injection pump of heavy fuel or mechanical lubricating device. In both cases, only one supply line is necessary.
Instead of placing the ball and spring check valves in the by-pass channels provided for a single loop supply line metering unit, the piston-slide itself can be spring loaded. mounted so as to tend so that the large diameter part of the piston-slide abuts against the shoulder provided between the two cylindrical vagaries. It is also possible to place a non-return valve inside the piston-slide.
The dispenser-metering units described are intended to be used for the distribution and metering of all liquids, for example, besides a lubricant, printing ink on ink rollers, de-icing fluids or lubricants on the wings or controls. airplanes, switches, signals or other mechanisms used in railways; they can also be used for filling bottles or other containers, for dosing liquids in the manufacture of chocolates, candies or the like or for dosing solids in the molten state.
