<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>
<Desc/Clms Page number 9>
<Desc/Clms Page number 10>

Tuning device for a receiver of electrical signals, in particular for television purposes The tuning devices that were previously used in the television industry were limited to 12 television channels in the VHF frequency range (VHF = Very High Frequency, 30-300 MHz). Recently, however, 70 new wharfs in the UHF frequency range (UHF = UltraHigh Frequency, 300-3000 MHz) have been provided for television purposes in the United States of America.
The television industry was therefore faced with the task of developing tuning devices for the large number of 82 channels in a very large total range, which in practice ranges from 54-890 MHz.
The present. The invention relates to a tuning device for a receiver of electrical signals which, in its preferred embodiment described below, solves this problem in an extremely practical manner, but which can also be designed and used for other purposes.
The tuning device according to the invention is characterized by a drum, the circumference of which is at least partially formed by segments which are each provided with tuning means connected to contacts, by a stationary circuit which is connected to contacts. which successively come into contact with the segment contacts when the drum rotates, whereby in each case a certain band is set within a frequency range, and by an axis concentric with the drum on which plates are attached which cooperate with said tuning means in such a way that by rotating this axis, the frequency required in the selected band can be set.
The tuning device preferably also has a further drum, which is in alignment with the first-mentioned drum and allows tuning in a further frequency range. The two frequency ranges mentioned, which are referred to in the following as the UHF range and the VHF range, preferably have the limits of 300-3000 MHz and 30-300 MHz already specified above.
The exemplary embodiment of the subject matter of the invention described below has the great advantage that, by operating two setting buttons that are attached to two concentric axes, 82 predetermined frequencies can be set very quickly without having to turn through all the frequencies, for example to change the channel. 2 to be converted to channel 72, whereby locking devices ensure the correct setting.
Another advantage of this exemplary embodiment is that fine-tuning means for both the UHF range and the VHF range can be achieved by means of a further concentric axis.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
Range can be set which fine-tuning means act on oscillators used to generate an intermediate frequency.
The present tuning device is preferably provided with a fine tuning element, namely by extending the stator plates of the tuning capacitors, so that parts of the same protrude to the outside of the drum.
The above-mentioned example of the implementation of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawing.

Fig.13 shows the switching mechanism corresponding to the drum position of Fig.1. FIG. 14 shows the switching mechanism corresponding to the drum position of FIG.
According to FIG. 3, a UHF drum 10 has two end disks. 11 and 12 on. The end disk 11 is provided with peripherally arranged slots 13 and round openings 14. The end disk 11 is also provided with a round opening 15 arranged in the center, in which a cylindrical sleeve 16 is arranged such that when the cylindrical sleeve 16 is rotated, a similar rotation of the disk takes place.
The disk 12 (Fug. 7) is provided with slots 17 and 1.8, of which the slots 17 are rounded at the bottom and the slots 18 are boot-shaped.
The disk 11 is provided with approximately rectangular slots 23, opposite which there are similarly shaped rectangular slots in the disk 1.2. A metal rail 66 is inserted into these slots, opposite which a further rail 67 is arranged in a similar manner. The disks 11 and 12 are rigidly connected to one another by the rails 66 and 67 in order to prevent any possible angular displacement of the disks 11 and 12 relative to one another when the drum 10 is rotated.
The disc 11 is also provided with a number of round openings 24 which correspond to the layer of segment plates 30 of the UHF drum 10, which consist of insulating material. The openings 24 are provided for readjusting oscillator tuning elements described later in order to enable the fitter to adapt the drum 10 to the local reception conditions.
The disks 11 and 12 also have round openings 26 which are arranged in the disks in such a way that a screwdriver can be inserted through the openings 26 through the drum 10 for the purpose of setting the oscillator setting screws on the segment plates 226 of a VHF drum 180 (see Fig. 1).
Furthermore, the disk 12 is provided with a number of resilient retaining fingers 19 (see also FIG. 7), which are formed by a disk 19 'fastened to the disk 12. and
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
Wear cams 20, which, as will be described below, are used to resiliently hold the segment plates forming the drum 10.
Disk 12 is also provided with a centrally arranged, round opening 21 which serves as a bearing for the axis 25 which is arranged concentrically in the sleeve 16.
According to FIG. 3, the end disks 11 and 12 are connected to one another by a set of eight drum segment plates 30. Each plate 30 (drum segment) is provided at each of the two ends with prongs 31 and 32, which engage in the slots 13, 17 and 18 and the openings 14 of the disks 11 and 12 and form the jacket of the cylindrical drum 10.
On one outer side of the drum segment plates 30 there are contacts 35, 36, 37, 38, 39 and 40, 37 of which are not visible in FIG. 3 but are visible in FIG. On the inside of the segment plates 30, conductive stator plates 41a, 41b, 42a, 42b, 43a, 43b are arranged in pairs, which form the fixed members of variable tuning capacitors 45, 46, 47.
In the illustrated embodiment, the stator plates 42b and 43a form a single plate, which is referred to below with 42b-434.
In addition to these stator plate pairs 41, 42, 43, each segment plate 30 is also provided with further tuning means, e.g. B. with a coil 50 which connects the contact 35 to the stator plate 41a. In an analogous manner, the stator plate 41b is connected to the contact 36 through the coil 53. Contact 37 is with one between the. Coils 53 and 55 arranged shielding plate 54, while the coil 55 connects the stator plate 42a to the contact 38.
The stator plate 42b-434 is connected directly to the contact 39, while the stator plate 43b is connected to the contact 40 through a fourth coil 56.
To get capacitors. the difference in capacitance between the two end positions of the axis 25 provided with the dielectric plates 61, 62 and 63, which decreases according to the increasing channel frequency, is shown by the associated stator plates 41a and 41b, 42a and 42b-434 and, carried by successive segment plates 43b have an increasing distance from one another in the direction of the segment plates intended for the higher frequencies.
In the following, the difference in capacitance between the two end positions of the dielectric plates 61 to 63 is denoted by d C.
It can also be seen that there is only one dielectric plate, for example plate 61, for changing the capacitance of eight capacitors on the segments 30.
In a similar manner, the dielectric plates 62 and 63 simultaneously change the capacitances of the capacitors 46 and 47, respectively, which are arranged on each segment 30. Because the axis 25 is mounted in the sleeve 16 so as to be easily rotatable, the drum 10 can be rotated while the dielectric plates remain in a certain position by means of suitable locking devices.
If the UHF range is now divided into eight bands, each of which, with the exception of the first and last, comprises 10 UHF channels, a specific channel can be selected by first moving the axis 25 to a specific position, which is a number from 0 to 9, afterwards the drum 10 is rotated by the sleeve 16 to a decade number from 0 to 7, which together with the number corresponding to the setting of the axis 25 results in the number of the selected UHF channel.
The end 80 of the axle 25 carries an adjusting knob, not shown in the drawing, by means of which the dielectric plates 61, 62 and 63 can be adjusted.
The spacing of the dielectric plates 61, 62 and 63 from one another and in relation to the disks 11 and 12 is ensured by hollow cylindrical spacers 81, 82, 83, of which the intermediate piece 81 between plate 61 and disk 11 and the intermediate piece 83 between plate 63 and disk 12 and the intermediate piece 82 is arranged between the dielectric plates 61 and 62,
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
A small spacer (not shown) separates the plates 62 and 63.
The spacers 81, 82, 83 are assembled with the plates 61, 62 and 63 to form a firmly connected unit which can easily be slipped onto the axis 25, easily in the correct position in relation to the plates 41, 42, 43 of the capacitors 45, 46 , 47 is adjustable and does not require subsequent readjustment.
The sleeve 82 has a cutout 84 in which a flat spring 86 is arranged and the rotary plate unit 61, 62, 63 clamps in the correct angular position on the axis 25.
The contacts 35-40 on the outside of the drum 10 have extensions 135-140 reaching towards the inside, to which the coils 50, 53, 55 and 56, the stator plates 42b and 43a and the shielding plate 54 are connected.
The stator plates are provided with extensions 121 and 122, of which the longer, namely 122, is inserted into the relevant insulating segment 30 and thereby fastened to the same.
To form the drum 10, the segments 30 are assembled such that the prongs 31 and 32 engage the slots 13 and openings 14 of the disk 11 and the slots 17 and openings 18 of the disk 12, respectively, on the right.
During assembly, care must be taken that the spring finger 19 is lifted off the disk before the prong 31 is inserted into the slot 17. After insertion, the finger 19 is released again, so that the cam 20 enters the upper part of the slot 17 and secures the plate 30 on the discs 11 and 12 against any radial displacement. Tangential displacement of the plates 30 is. prevented by the precise dimensional accuracy of the slots 13, 17 and 18 and the opening 14.
The drum 10 formed in this way is provided with a latching device 90 (Fig. 6) which has a spring 91 fastened at 92 to the chassis 95, which is provided with a U-shaped part 96 (Fig. 3). The part 96 is provided on each leg with a recess 97 which serves as a bearing for a pin 98 carrying a locking roller 99. This latching device is attached to the chassis 95 in such a way that each time the roller 99 engages in the slot 13, the contacts 35-40 on one of the segments 30 with stationary contacts 105-110 (see e.g. FIG. 4) on the chassis come into contact.
Instead of a ninth segment plate 30, the metal rail 66 is provided. In the appropriate position, a VHF switch is operated as described below.
An opening 112 is also provided in the disk 12, in which a pin 115 of a bolt 11.3 is inserted, so that the bolt 113 is fastened to the disk 12 (see also FIGS. 7 and 8).
The bolt 113 is used to actuate a lever 120 provided with a roller 118. The roller 118 is rotatably fastened to the lever 120 by means of a rivet 151. The lever 120 is attached to the end 160 of an axle 162 which is used to actuate a switch 125 (see FIG. 9) with which it is possible to switch from UHF operation to VHF operation.
The axle 162 extends over the entire length of a VHF drum 180 (see e.g. FIG. 1) and, via lever 162 ', carries a rectangular member 181, which also extends over the entire length of the drum 180, in FIGS .1 and 2 is partially omitted. A similar member 182 is attached in a stationary manner to a carrier 185 which is fastened to the lower part of the chassis 186 for the VHF drum 180 and which is only shown schematically in FIG.
Contacts 190-200 are attached to the stationary member 182 by riveting and are made of a conductive and resilient material with very good elastic properties in order to rule out damage or breakage whenever a switch is made from VHF to UHF operation and vice versa.
Contacts 190-200 are also attached to member 181 carried by axle 162 and have portions 202 (see Figure 9)
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
which connect to a set of contacts 205 comprising fixed contacts 320-330 and contacts 210-220 on VI3F drum 180, depending on whether a UH-F or a VHF channel is on.
The construction of the switch 125 and the two switch positions can be seen from the (partially schematic) FIGS. 1, 2, 9, 13 and 1.4.
The roller 11.8 of the lever 120 is actuated by the bolt 113 when the UHF drum is in the ninth position, in the position shown in FIGS. 1 and 13, the rail 66 (FIG. 13) being over the Contacts 105-110, without touching the same, is located.
The actuation of the roller 118 by the bolt 113 is that the roller 118 is raised, whereby the axis 162 is rotated and the link 181 is raised and consequently the parts 202 of the contacts 190-200 into electrical connection with the movable contacts 210-220 the VHF drum 180 come. As can be seen from FIG. 1, the link 181 is under the influence of a spring 228 which is fastened on the one hand to the link 181 and on the other hand to the carrier 185 (see FIG. 9). is. The already described actuation of the roller 118 by the bolts 113 also interrupts the connection between the contacts 190 to 200 and the stationary contact set 205.
In this position the tuner is ready to receive VHF signals, while the UHF drum is in its inoperative position. As can be seen more clearly from FIG. 4, all electrical elements of the UHF drum 10 are ineffective when this is in the ninth position, while electrical elements of the VHF drum are involved in converting the incoming VHF signals into 41 MHz signals for the Working groups of the television receiver are involved.
The forehand 100 of the UHF chassis 95 has a bearing 100a, only indicated by dashed lines in FIG. 10, for the channel selection axis 25, in which the band selection sleeve 16 is concentric. is arranged. A fine-tuning sleeve 101 is arranged concentrically on the band selection sleeve -16 and is with it. a set of spring washers 102; which are formed in such a way that they act as a member of a friction clutch 102, 103, the member 103 of which has approximately the shape of a segment of a circle and is provided with two end stops 103a.
The coupling member 103 has a part 103b which is always located between the two spring washers 102. The link 1-03 is fastened on axis 404 which is rotatably supported in corresponding openings in the chassis 95 of the LTHF drum 10.
It can be seen that when the fine tuning axis 101 is rotated, that rotation is. is transmitted via the members 102 and 103 by friction to the axis 104, on which a dielectric plate 450 for fine tuning of the UHF channels and a second dielectric plate 451 for fine tuning of the VHF channels is attached.
The plate 450 is arranged between extensions 452 and 453 of the tuning capacitor plates 41a and 41b of the tuning capacitor 45 for an oscillator 351 (see FIGS. 4 and 5) of the UIIF tuner, projecting onto the outside of the drum 10. After the desired UHF channel has been set in the manner described, fine tuning takes place by rotating the dielectric plate 450 between the extensions 452 and 453 of the tuning capacitor 45 of the oscillator 351.
Similarly, the VHF channel is fine-tuned by rotating the dielectric plate 451 between plates 455 and 456, which are arranged near the front end 457 of the VHF chassis 186 and which are the stator plates of a fine-tuning capacitor 311 for an oscillator 302 of the VHF tuner form (see Figs. 4 and 5). .
Fine tuning is therefore achieved after setting the desired frequency channel by turning the axis 101, regardless of the situation
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
on the setting of the tuning device for UHF or VHF reception.
From Fig. 4, in which the circuit diagram, as it corresponds to the position of the switch 125 described for Fig. 1, is shown, it can be seen that in this position the VHF antenna 250 via the terminal board 251 and the lines 252 with the stationary Contacts 190 and 191 and then to the movable contacts 210, 211 of a segment 225, the drum 180 is connected, which can also be referred to as the antenna segment 225 of the VHF drum 180. The drum 180 has twelve such segments 225 on its circumference.
An HF transformer 255 with a primary winding 256 wound on a coil form 257 is fastened to each segment 225 in a known manner and is connected to the movable contacts 210 and 211. A secondary winding 258 of the HF transformer 255 is also located on the same coil form 257.
The secondary winding 258 is connected to the movable contacts 213 and 214 and their center point. Contact 212 connected. In this position of the VHF drum 180, the contact 212 is connected to the switching contact 192 and grounded from there, while the contact 213 or contact 214 of the secondary winding 258 via the switching contact 193 or 194 with. the grid 259 of the cascade amplifier 262 or via a capacitance 266 to earth, via a capacitance 265 to the anode 263 and also to a terminal AGC to which the control voltage for the automatic regulation of the gain can be connected in a known manner.
The VHF signals received by the VHF antenna 250 are accordingly fed to a cascade amplifier 262. The anode 263 on the grounded cathode 271 side of the cascade amplifier 262 is directly connected to the cathode 268 on the grounded grid 272 side. The cathode 271 is directly connected to earth.
The grid 272 is connected to earth via a capacitor 275, while the anode 273 is connected to the switching contact 195 and (in this position of the UHF drum 10 or the switch 125) to the movable contact 215 of a VIIF segment 226. There are also twelve segments 226.
Three tuning coils 280, 281 and 282 are arranged on each drum segment 226. All three coils are wound around a coil form 283, and coil 280 is connected to the movable contacts 215 and 216. Coil 281 is connected to movable contacts 217 and 218 and coil 282 is connected to movable contacts 21.9 and 220. The coil 280 is thus connected directly to the anode 273 of the cascade amplifier 262 on the one hand and via a series resistor 285 to the positive terminal B-h common to all electrical circuits of the VIH.F tuner for the mains connection.
The second coil 281 is connected on the one hand by connecting the movable contact 217 to the switching contact 197 to earth and on the other hand by connecting the movable contact 218 to the switching contact 198 via the capacitor 287 to the grid resistor 288. The grid 290 of the frequency converter 291 is connected to the connection point of the capacitor 287 and the grid resistor 288. The cathode 293 of the converter 291 is grounded, while the anode 295 is connected to the primary coil 297 of the IF transformer 296, the secondary coil 298 of which is connected to the television part by a connection not shown in the diagram.
The coil 282 is connected on the one hand via the movable contact 219 and the switching contact 199 to the capacitance 300, the other side of which is connected to the grid 301 of the oscillator 302.
Furthermore, the switching contact 199 is connected to the already mentioned mains connection terminal B -f- via a resistor 304. The cathode 305 of the oscillator 302 is also connected to earth, and since the transducer 291 and the oscillator are halves of a double triode
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
307, their cathodes 293 and 305 actually form one of the. same filament-fed unit.
The grid 301 of the oscillator 302 is connected to earth via a resistor 308, while the anode 310 of the oscillator 302 is connected to the other side of the coil 282 located on the drum segment 226 via the switching contact 200 and the movable contact 220.
In summary, the coil 280 forms the tuning coil for the output of the cascade amplifier 262; Coil 281 is the tuning coil of the frequency converter 291 and coil 282 is the tuning coil for the oscillator 302. The input frequency and the oscillator frequency are superimposed by coupling the coils 280, 281 and 281, 282 in the coil 281, so that the desired An intermediate frequency signal is produced which is modulated according to the modulations of the input frequency.
Consequently, the desired channel will be received by the VHF tuner and the corresponding intermediate frequency (IF) will appear across the secondary coil -298 of the IF transformer 296.
In the example on which FIG. 4 is based, the UHF circuit shown on the right-hand side is, as already mentioned, ineffective and is described in more detail below in connection with FIGS. 2, 5 and 14.
In the switching state on which FIGS. 2, 5, 9 and 14 are based, the bolt 113 has been removed from the roller 118 and the member 181 has returned to its rest position under the action of the spring 228. The switching contacts 190-200 are now connected to the contacts 320-330 of the stationary contact set 205 because the UHF drum is not in the ninth position. The stationary set of contacts 205 is connected to a stationary electrical circuit S1 which, in the switch position of FIG. 5, converts the stationary circuit S2 of the VHF tuner into a two-stage IF amplifier.
(In Fig. 4, the stationary circuit Si has been omitted for the sake of simplicity.) When the UHF drum is in any position from 1 to 8, the stationary circuit S3 shown on the right-hand side of Fig. 5 is the UHF tuner in function and converts the frequency of the incoming URF channel into the intermediate frequency of the Felmsehempfänger.
The IF signal is then fed to the stationary circuits S1 -f- S2 via a line 375 and amplified there in two IF stages.
According to FIG. 5, the UHF signal picked up by a UHF antenna (not shown) is passed through a coaxial cable 332 to a fixed capacitor 333 and a variable capacitor 334, which are grounded on one side.
The inner conductor of the coaxial cable 335 is connected to the stationary contact 110, which in turn is connected to the movable contact 40 of segment 30 of the drum 10. The coil 56 is connected to the contact 40 (see FIG. 3), the other side of which is connected to the stator plate 43b of the variable capacitor 47. The other stator plate 42b-43a is connected to the movable contact 39, which is connected to the permanently earthed contact 109.
The plate 42b-43a. is also one of the stator plates of the capacitor 45, of which the plate 42a is connected to the coil 55, the other side of which is connected to the movable contact 38, which is connected to the stationary contact 108.
The stationary contact 108 is connected to a parallel circuit formed from the capacitance 340 and the HF choke 341, one end of which is connected to earth. A trimmer capacitor 342 is connected in parallel to the capacitance 340 and the choke 341. At its end connected to the contact 108, the crystal mixer diode 345 is also connected, which in turn is connected to a capacitance 346, one end of which is connected to ground and the other end to the coil 347, from which the IF signal is tapped.
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
At contact point 348, which is common for capacitor 346, IF choke 347 and crystal mixer diode 345,
another grounded capacitance 349 is connected. The capacitance 349 is connected to earth by a conductor 349a which forms a loop (not shown) which is used for inductively feeding a signal picked up by the oscillator 351 to the crystal mixer diode 345.
It should also be noted that capacitors 346 and 349 form a capacitive divider in order to obtain the correct voltage amplitude from UHF drum 10. In addition, a capacitance 353 is connected between coil 347 and earth.
The fixed capacitance 333, caie inductance 56 and the tuning capacitor 47 form a filter with low impedance in order to enable appropriate matching to the coaxial cable 332.
A second filter is formed by the tuning capacitor 46, the inductance 55 and the fixed capacitance 340. However, it has a higher impedance for correct matching to the crystal dissociating diode 345.
It should be noted that the two filters 333-56-47 and 53-340 are capacitively coupled by the coupling capacitance of the system formed by the elements mentioned. and that due to the special values of the impedances of the two filter networks, correct matching is always guaranteed.
The shield 54 on the segment 30 is with the movable contact member 37 and above -this with. the stationary contact member 107 which is permanently grounded connected. The shield 54 is therefore grounded.
The stator plate 41b of the tuning capacitor 45 is connected to the inductance 53, which is connected to the movable contact 36 and via this to the stationary contact 1.06, which in turn is connected to the anode 350 of the oscillator 351. The anode 350 of the oscillator tube 351 is connected to ground through the trimmer capacitor 352. The anode 350 is also connected to the B + network connection, and zWär via a resistor. 354 and an HF choke 355, the connection point of which is connected to ground by a capacitor 356.
The. Stator plate 41a. of the tuning capacitor 45 is connected to the movable contact 35 via the inductance 50 and to the fixed contact 105 via the latter. This is. connected to the CTitter 357 of the oscillator tube 351 and via the grid resistor 360 to its cathode. The cathode 358 is with. connected to earth through an RF choke 361.
The filament 362 of the tube 351 is shunted by the capacitance 364 and connected to an RF choke, namely 366 and 367, on both sides. The choke 366 is grounded, while the choke 367 is connected to the heating circuit, as shown in the diagram at 370 and is connected to earth via a shunt capacitor 371.
The stationary circuit S1 has an IF transformer 378, the primary winding 376 of which is fed by the conductor 375 and the secondary winding 379 of which is connected to the contacts 323 and 324. Contacts 320, 321, 322 are connected to ground via conductors 381, 382 and 383.
The VHF antenna 250, which is permanently connected to the switching contacts 190 and 191, which touch the contacts 320 and 321, is thus short-circuited and connected to earth.
In addition, switching contact 192, which was previously grounded, is now also connected to contact 323, which is also grounded.
The switching contact 192 only acts as a shield if the short-circuited and grounded VI3F antenna should nevertheless generate signals in order to prevent interference with other current branches connected to the contact set 205.
In the UHF position shown, the secondary winding 379 of the IF transformer 378 is connected on one side to the grid 259 of the cascade amplifier 262 via the contact 323 and the switching contact 193.
<Desc / Clms Page number 9>
The signal now applied to the grid 259 has the intermediate frequency generated in the crystal mixer diode by superimposing the frequency of the oscillator 351 and the input signal (via 352). The intermediate frequency transformer 378 must therefore be built for this intermediate frequency.
The cascade amplifier 262 has the same elements as described in connection with FIG. It amplifies the signal applied to the grid 259. The amplified signals now appear in the output circuit 385 belonging to the circuit S, consisting of the resistor 387 and the inductance 386 connected in parallel to it. The circuit 385 is connected between the contacts 325 and 326. In this position, these contacts are connected to the switch contacts 195 and 196.
As already mentioned, the switching contact 195 is connected to the anode 275 of the cascade amplifier 262, while the switching contact 196 is grounded via the capacitance 284 and connected to the B + - 'mains connection via the resistor 285. The inductance 386 and the inductance 390 of a second circuit 391 are mutually coupled, which consists of the inductance 390, the capacitance 392 and the resistor 393, which are connected in parallel with one another and connected to the contacts 327 and 328.
These contacts 327 and 328 are connected to the contacts 197 and 198, of which 197 is grounded and 198 is connected to the grid 290 of the tube 291 via a coupling capacitor 387.
The tube 291, which works as a frequency converter for VHF reception, now forms the second IF amplifier stage as a result of its connection to the circuit 391. This is because the oscillator 302 is now inactive because the tuning circuit 282 between grid 301 and anode 310 is missing and, furthermore, the anode 310 is in no way connected to the positive terminal B +.
Since the oscillator 302 is inactive, the transducer tube 291 operates as an amplifier, and a twice amplified IF signal appears across the secondary winding 298 of the IF transformer 297, which of course contains the modulations contained in the original UHF signal are.
From FIG. 2 it can be seen that the VHF drum 180 is also arranged on the axis 25 and that it is provided with a locking device 400, which is the same as the locking device 90 described with reference to FIG. 6 for the UHF drum 10 is similar.
The latching device 400 has. a spring finger 401 with a U-shaped extension 402 at one end. On the U-shaped part 401, the axis 405 of a roller 406 is mounted on the U-legs 403, the diameter of which corresponds to the recesses 408 of the undulating edge of an intermediate disk 410 of the VHF drum 180.
The other side of the spring finger 401 is attached to the chassis 186 of the VHF drum 180. This locking device is the subject of US Patent No. 2496183.
In the present application, there are always twelve recesses 408, corresponding to the twelve VHF channels, via which the VHF drum 180 can be rotated. Both VHF drum 180 and segments 225 and 226 are also of the type described in the above U.S. patent.
Since the dielectric plates 61, 62, 63 are also arranged on the axis 25, it goes without saying that twelve presettable positions are to be provided for these as well, of which only ten are used, corresponding to the first ten positions which the ten VHF channels 2-11 or the numbers 0-9 on the scale when operating in the UHF band.
As already mentioned, the exact position of the dielectric plate 61, 62 and 63 in relation to the disk 410 is determined by the interaction of the surface 80 and the clamping spring 86 in the middle sleeve 82 of the UHF drum 10.
While ten capacitor tuning means 45, 46 and 47 have been described for the UHF drum, such tuning means can of course also consist of variable inductances.
<Desc / Clms Page number 10>
Even when inductances are used as tuning means, the operation to select the UHF channels is done in the same two mares:
firstly, rotating the drum 10 by means of the sleeve 16 for setting the desired UHF decade band and secondly rotating the tuning axis 25 for setting the desired channel in the preselected UHF decade band.
Such a variant of the channel tuning elements is shown in FIG. On each segment 30, three coils 460 are arranged perpendicular to the drum jacket surface.
It goes without saying, however, that a different number of tuning elements could also be used if necessary. The inductance of the coil 460 can be changed by adjusting conductive plates 461, which are arranged on the axis 25. These plates 461 are arranged in pairs on both sides of the coils 460 such that their displacement with respect to the coils, 460 results in a change in the magnetic field around the coil 460 and therefore a change in its inductance.
Such a segment plate 30 with coils 460 can be used in place of an earlier described segment plate 30 with capacitors 45, 46 and 47.
The dielectric plates 61, 62 and 63 can also be replaced by metal plates of a suitable shape in order to change the capacitance, depending on their position relative to the stator plates, such as 41c and 41b in the present example of the capacitors 45.
