Infrared Responsive Device The present invention relates to an infrared responsive device which, for the detection of infrared radiation, uses infrared-sensitive photoelectric cells, such as, e.g. B. cells containing lead sulfide as an infrared sensitive material are used.
If a device with an infrared-sensitive electrical cell for the detection of infrared radiation from a specific source emitting such radiation is to be receivable, d. H. if the device is determined before dazn, the occurrence of an over temperature, as z.
B. occurs before the occurrence of fire or the like, it is important that the device, although it responds to the high temperature of such radiation sources, never responds to changes in the ambient temperature, in particular not to such changes that are to be expected in the occurrence of very hot weather and can create conditions which would lead to false alarms from the apparatus.
It is the aim of the present invention to provide an infrared-sensitive alarm device that is largely secured against incorrect information from sources of heat and light that are external to the intended radiation source.
According to the present invention, the device responsive to infrared radiation is included. an infrared-sensitive cell, which is arranged in such a way that it is acted upon by the radiation of a radiation source, and provided with means for amplifying the output variables of the cell.
The device according to this invention is characterized in that a second identical cell is provided in a compensation circuit which is connected to the input circuit of the means for amplification, in such a way that resistance changes occurring in both cells, which are caused by changes in temperature or the Illumination of the environment, cause practically no change in the amplifier input voltage, so that the amplifier only responds to the radiation from the radiation source mentioned.
The circuit diagram for an embodiment of the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing voltage.
In the drawing, the amplifier is provided with two heated electron tubes Vr and V2 connected in cascade. The infrared sensitive main cell I is connected between the grid and the cathode of the tube V.
Cell 1 is the infrared-sensitive cell that is supposed to respond to radiation from a source emitting infrared rays. An infra red-sensitive auxiliary cell 2 is placed with cell I in a balancing circle at the input of tube V1, with one terminal of cell 2 with the grid of tube Vj and the. the other terminal, as shown, is connected to the positive terminal 3 of a voltage source. This voltage source is connected to the anode of the tube Vj via a conventional anode resistor 4.
The anode of the tube Vi is also connected to the bitter of the tube V2 using a normal resistance coupling 5 and the anode of the tubes V2 is connected to the positive pole of the anode voltage source via a relay 6 and thus serves to provide a display or activate the warning device in circle 7 wu.
When radiation from a radiation source at high temperature, e.g. If, for example, the rays of the sun or another light source reach the two cells, a considerable part of the incident radiation is blocked by the filter 8 of cell 1. The relative sensitivity of the two cells is then adjusted by the parallel resistor 10 of the cell 2 in such a way that the resistance changes resulting from the said beams are the same in the two branches of the circuit. As a result, there is no change in the potential of the grid of tube V1.
If non radiation from a radiation source with low temperature, z. If, for example, 100 C falls on the two cells, the filter of cell 1 holds back only a few rays.
As a result, with the sensitive setting of the two cells, the change in resistance in the branch with cell 1 is significantly greater than in the branch with cell 2. This causes a change in the potential at the grid of the tube Vt and the change in the anode current reduces the Current through the tube V, and causes the relay 6 to be de-energized and thereby the alarm circuit 7 to close.
If it is a radiation source that is only effective intermittently, the resistance coupling 5 can be replaced by a resistance-capacitance coupling, the capacitor and connecting lines to the capacitor are indicated by dashed lines.
In the device described, an infrared-sensitive cell that is supposed to respond to the emission of infrared radiation from a predetermined source is in series with a source of electrical potential in a balancing circuit with an identical second or auxiliary cell to the input circuit of an amplifier, especially one with hot cathode tubes , connected in such a way that a change in resistance occurring in both cells, which results from changes in the ambient temperature or the light intensity, does not cause any noticeable change in the amplifier's input circuit, so that the cell,
which is supposed to respond to the radiation of a certain source, is more sensitive to the radiation of this source than the other cell, so that the emission of roads by the predetermined radiation source causes an effective change in the input circuit of the amplifier and thus in the output circuit of the amplifier Appeal is encouraged.
In the device described, a filter is inserted in front of the first-mentioned cell, which filter allows only a relatively narrow spectral range of these infrared rays coming from the predetermined source to reach the cell. Instead of placing a filter in front, the cell which is to respond to the radiation of the predetermined radiation source can also be made more effective for the intended radiation by shielding it from other possible radiation sources, the second cell remaining without shielding.
The two cells are preferably arranged in such a way that, apart from the filter connected to the first cell, both cells receive rays from the same section of space from which the radiation from the predetermined radiation source is expected.
If so desired, additional amplifier circuits can of course be used.
