Des organes pour serrer le calibre sur le socle sont disposés comme suit: un trou ver tical 21 est percéavec précision dans le socle 17 pour recevoir l'extrémité saillante de l'ap pui 12 du calibre et coopère avec un étau in terne 22 servant à fixer l'appui 12 dans une position verticale dans le socle 17 ; l'étau 22 travaille dans un alésage horizontal 23a cou pant le trou vertical 21 pratiqué dans le socle ;
Clamp for supporting a measuring instrument of the touch gauge type In mechanical workshops, gauges and other similar measuring instruments are used to check the accuracy of machined parts or tools that must be checked periodically for safety. 'ensure that they keep precise dimensions. For this verification and for any realignment or other adjustment which may be necessary, it is necessary that these gauges or other measuring instruments are suitably secured in a suitable clamping device during the necessary operations, for example during the grinding of worn surfaces.
It is essential that a gauge is kept quite rigid during its checking and adjustment, then it is also important that the clamping device does not deform or deflect the gauge, because if any modification is produced in the dimensions or alignment by the clamping device, subsequent operations are subject to error to the same extent.
The present invention relates to a support clamp for a measuring instrument of the touch gauge type, that is to say comprising a frame supporting a fixed support at one end and a movable support at the other end, the fixed support projecting from the frame in a direction opposite to that of the mobile support.
According to the invention, the support clamp comprises a device designed to fix one end of the instrument frame on a base, arms connected to the base and separated from this device, then spaced apart to provide a slot intended to receive the other end of the frame of the instrument, two rigid elements movable towards each other from the arms transversely to the slot, these elements being in longitudinal alignment with each other and being intended to engage the opposite sides of the instrument frame,
a third element projecting elastically from one arm towards the other arm transversely to the slot and an indicating device connected to the third element to indicate the distance from which this third element projects towards the other arm. One embodiment of the support clamp, object of the invention, is shown, by way of example, in the accompanying drawing.
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a touch gauge of the type that the support clamp is intended to hold.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the support clamp with the soft touch gauge held therein. Fig. 3 is a section, on a larger scale, along the plane III-III of FIG 2.
The touch gauge 10, of conventional construction, shown in FIG. 1, comprises a frame 11 supporting a fixed support 12 at one end and a movable support 13 at the other. The movement of the support 13 is indicated by a comparator 14, which is removably mounted on the frame 11 of the touch gauge; this comparator is removed before the gauge 10 is placed in the clamp. An adjustable rod 15, normally secured in place by a cap screw 16, prevents excessive displacement of the free AC when it is in use; it can also be removed when the gauge is placed in the clamp.
In fig. 2, the clamp is shown holding the gauge ready for checking and adjustment; the clamp comprises a support comprising a base 17 on which is mounted a cylindrical post 18 and a clamping head 19, which slides vertically on the post to allow vertical adjustment of the frame; the latter can be fixed at the desired height by a locking screw 20 passing through the side of the head 19 to engage with the post.
Devices for clamping the gauge on the base are arranged as follows: a vertical hole 21 is drilled with precision in the base 17 to receive the projecting end of the support 12 of the gauge and cooperates with an internal vice 22 serving to fix the support 12 in a vertical position in the base 17; the vise 22 works in a horizontal bore 23a cou pant the vertical hole 21 made in the base;
it comprises a movable jaw 24 threaded to engage with the threaded end 25a of a rotating rod 25; a sleeve 26 threaded on the rod 25 acts as a second jaw and the support 12 of the gauge can be engaged between the jaws 24 and 26, then pushed into contact with the wall of the vertical hole 21 by turning the knurled knob 27 fixed to the end of the rod 25. The adjacent ends of the jaws 24 and 26 are chamfered, then the support 12 may include flat surfaces 12a which can be attacked by the ends of the jaws.
When the support 12 is held fixedly in the vice 22, the upper end of the free ca is disposed in a slot, 19a, between the arms 28 and 29, on the clamping head 19; the arms are far enough apart to leave some space on both sides of the caliber frame. Two rigid members, which may be locking screws 30 and 31 screwed into the arms of the clamping head, engage in the slot 19a; these screws can be tightened until their ends abut against the side faces of the frame 11 of the free ca.
A comparator 32 is mounted horizontally on the side of the clamping head with its feeler 32a arranged to pass through a hole in the arm 28, so as to form a third element projecting elastically into the slot 19a and suitable for touching the hole. the side closest to the caliber frame. In this position, the indicator member of the comparator 32 can indicate the degree of deviation of the frame of the gauge from the vertical. The comparator 32 is fixed in place by a locking screw 33.
The clamp represented as follows is used.The gauge to be checked is held in a vertical position on the base 17 and the protruding end of the fixed support 12 placed at the base of the gauge is introduced into the vertical hole 21 where it is fixed by turning the button 27 to tighten the vise 22. In this position, the upper end of the frame 11 of the gauge is placed in the slot 19a of the clamping head 19. The locking screws 30 and 31 must be far enough back to avoid any contact with the side faces of the free AC chassis.
The comparator 32 indicating the deviation is placed in the hole of the arm 28 with its feeler 32a touching the nearest face of the frame of the gauge and the comparator 32 is set to give a zero indication in this arrangement of the elements of the gauge. together.
The locking screws 30 and 31 are then screwed carefully inwards to bring them into uniform contact with the lateral faces of the frame 11 of the caliber, so that no permanent indication of deviation of the caliber frame is retained by the gauge. comparator 32. By carefully advancing set screws 30 and 31 simultaneously or in turn, it is possible to correct for slight deviations which may occur before reaching the maximum degree of tightening. When the final adjustment is carried out, the hand gripper holds the touch gauge very securely, allowing all necessary operations to be carried out without deformation.
