Pressurized metal casting machine. Llnvention relates to machines for casting metals under pressure and in particular ferrous metals.
Machines are known for the casting of pressurized parts in which the liquid metal, first poured into a special steel cylinder in communication with the mold, is. driven back into the mold by. a piston either directly or through the intermediary of an injection cylinder.
Some disadvantages presented by these machines are summarized below: 1 The walls of the casting troll gradually become fouled and the movement of the piston is thus hampered.
\ 3 In machines comprising a pocket cylinder and an injection cylinder, the channel connecting these two cylinders is located in the axis of the pocket ei-linder. This. disposition favors the. birth of splashes which solidify faster than the mass of metal and these metal particles obstruct the: communication duct with the mold.
According to the invention, the machine for casting metals under pressure, in particular ferrous metals, comprises a ladle cylinder into which the molten metal intended to be forced into the mold is poured; it is characterized in that the wall of the casting - hole comprises a refractory lining and in that there is provided a scraper piston intended to clean and then to seal the casting hole at the end of its stroke. so as to be flush with the inner face of the wall of the pocket cylinder.
According to another characteristic, the duct located at the bottom of the pocket cylinder, which is disposed horizontally, the duct which opens into the injection cylinder, disposed vertically, has a direction tangent to a part of the propeller inscribed in the cylinder of pocket and inclined downwards at an angle of about 20, tangentially to the inner wall of the injection cylinder.
The accompanying drawing shows, by way of example, one embodiment of the. machine object of the invention. _ Fig. 1 is a partial cross section of a machine. die casting showing the scraper piston of the pocket cylinder tap hole.
Figs. 2 "and 3 show, respectively, a sectional elevation view of the bottom of the pocket cylinder and a plan view of this cylinder bottom.
In fig. 1, the wall @du taphole has a lining 1 of refractory material. A piston 2, actuated by a jack (not shown), can slide in the lining up to the level of the outer periphery of the pocket cylinder 3, assumed to be horizontal. The surface and the stroke of the piston are designed in such a way that at the end of the stroke the piston reconstitutes the interior wall of the pocket cylinder, in order to prevent the metal from rising in the tap hole at the start of the process. action of the pocket cylinder piston.
The operation of the apparatus is as follows: The 'casting ladle having been emptied into the ladle cylinder 3, the scraper piston 2 is lowered, which scrapes the solidified parts adhering to the casting hole 1. At the end of the stroke , the scraper piston 2 completely closes the tap hole 1, as indicated above, and the pocket piston is then actuated to force the metal back into the injection cylinder.
Fig. 1 shows the invention applied to a die-casting machine, in which the pocket cylinder is horizontal. The invention is obviously applicable to any die-casting machine, whether the pocket cylinder forces the metal into the mold by means of an injection cylinder or else directly.
Referring now to Figs. 2 and 3: The metal jet coming from the pocket cylinder 3 and passing through the injection cylinder 7 is directed along a downwardly inclined helix, at an angle a which may be of the order:
from 20. To obtain this result, the communication duct B -A, which is constricted in the last part .El of the pocket cylinder, has a direction tangent to a part of the propeller inscribed in said. pocket cylinder, then opens tangentially to the. injection cylinder wall. 7. The liquid metal arriving tangentially moves helically downwards from the injection cylinder 7 and thus does not cause any splash in said injection cylinder. cylinder.
