Continuous gear change device. In the main patent: No 280269, a continuous speed change device has been described comprising a differential mechanism of which the lead and driven orcanes respectively constitute the input and output members of the device. and of which the reaction member is driven to from one of said members by means of a continuous variator mechanism whose transmission ratio can. be modified at will to vary the driving speed of said reaction member and thus modify the transmission ratio of the device.
We have. in particular describes an embodiment of this device comprising a differential ball mechanism, the planet carrier of which constitutes the driven member and the of output of the device, and in which the continuous variator mechanism is of the type, a friction, to toric raceways and to adjustable rollers.
The present invention relates to a continuous speed change device of this particular type. This device is charac terized in that said balls constitute the satellites of the differential mechanism and are arranged in cells of the disc constituting its planet carrier, in that it comprises a n # oix integral with the drive shaft of the device and mounted to rotation in a housing constituting a fixed peripheral support,
this nut constituting a thrust member intended to ensure the friction of all the transmission members within the interior of the device and having, on a f < / B> frontal ace oriented towards a first plate of the variator mechanism, hollows separated by ramps and in which -have arranged balls forming, stop for this plate and serving to to couple it in operation said drive shaft, said plate bearing, on its face opposite to said nut, one of said raceways of the variator mechanism, and in that each of the orientable rollers of this mechanism,
is mounted to rotation on an axis of which one of the ends is. mounted in such a way to able to slide in a groove in a fixed support and the other end of which is articulated on a second central nut mounted on the drive shaft so of this shaft, one of said axes being subjected to the action of a control member, capable of making it pivot relative to to the. second nut and thus move this nut along (the leading tree.
The accompanying drawings show, to, by way of example, a particular form. advan tageuse dun gear change device, continuous according to the invention.
Fig. 1 represents a longitudinal section, the of the apparatus and fig. 2 -a cross section along II-11 of fig. L In fig. 1, we see at i the housing of the device closed by the two covers 2 and 3. The motor shaft, that is to say the input of a device, is shown at 5 and the output shaft is shown at 14.
The motor shaft rests, on the one hand, on the ball bearing 32 and, on the other hand, on the bearings 33 </ B > and ô3a which are inserted into the output shaft which is hollow. As for the output shaft, it rotates on the unit housing through the ball bearing 32a.
For the purpose of simplification in manufacture, the pillars 32 and 32a can be identical as well as the bearings 33 and 33a.
On the motor shaft is wedged a 1 " plate which forms the line of the differential planetary gear. The second differential gear or reaction member is formed by the rear face . of a plate 11 to toroidal raceway forming the variable speed controller at organ. This plate 11 has no connection with the the motor shaft and forms a floating ring both relying solely on 35 balls which constitute the planet wheels of the differential and on the adjustable rollers of the variator.
The 35 balls are inserted in cells made in a perforated disc 13 which forms the cage of the differential. The disc 13 is linked to the output shaft 14 by screws 45.
On the end of the motor shaft opposite to the output shaft is wedged -a nut 6. It is through this nut that the shaft rests on the bearing 32. One of the faces of the. nut 6 bears, at 6a, evenly spaced ramps forming six hollows and six teeth. In these hollows come. place six balls 34 of Lin diameter equal to the diameter of the motor shaft. It will be noted that, under these conditions, the six balls 34 are almost in contact with one another.
The first plate 10 with toroidal rolling path of the variator has a groove 10a, in which the balls 34 are inserted. The plate 10 </ B > is also made up of a floating ring without connection to the motor shaft and based solely on the balls 34 and on the adjustable rollers 15 of the variator.
The device for orienting the rollers is described below in relation to fi-. 2. The rollers 15, for example three in number, are mounted idle on shafts 17 by means of a ring or bearing 16. </ B >
Each shaft 17 is fixed at one of its ends on a support in the form of a horn 17b. A the other end, each shaft 17 carries a flat 17a which slides freely in a groove made in the casing of the apparatus.
Each angle 17b pivots around a shaft 18 parallel to the plane of the fing. 2. Each 18 shaft is pinned at 41 in a central nut 4 capable of sliding along the motor shaft.
One of the angles 17b carries an extension 52 which makes it integral with a part 19. We see, from the figure, that if we rotates part 19 around a vertical axis. at the same time the angle iron and, consequently., the roller carrier shaft 17 are rotated around the shaft 18, which modifies]. 'inclination of the pebble. 15. Like this pebble. is wedged between the two O-ring raceways of the variator, this change in inclination necessarily causes the central nut 4 to slide along the motor shaft.
For example, if the roller 1.5 is in the position shown in hatching in fig. 1, the corresponding position of nut 4 is that which is also represented by hatching. A-Li on the contrary, when the roller 1.5 tilts to reach the position shown without hatching in this figure, the central nut moves to the right along the motor shaft to come and occupy a new position also indicated without hatching in said figure.
This displacement of the central nut along the motor shaft causes a displacement of the other dei-Lx, -alets which are also connected-, to this nut and, (take it. By Consequently, inclinations identical to to that of the first roller.
In other words, it can be seen that it suffices to cause the inclination of one of the rollers by the pivoting of the member 19 around a vertical axis in order to simultaneously obtain an equivalent inclination of two other rollers.
The pivoting of the member 19 from the exterior of the casing is obtained by pivoting a rod 20 about its axis. This rod is terminated at its lower end by a sphere 53 carrying two pins 50 which engage in suitable grooves in the part 19. When the connecting rod 20 is rotated around its axis, the pins 50 rotate the part 19, < / B> but in its pivoting, the part 19 moves along a complex path, since, on the one hand, the horn that it controls pivots around the tree 1.8 </ B> whose axis does not coincide with that of part 19 and that, on the other hand,
the axis 18 undergoes a translational movement due to what it must at the same time follow the central nut 4 which slides along the motor shaft. It is in order to follow this complex movement of the part 19 that the rod 20 not only carries a ball joint to its. lower part, but also a patella 54 at its upper part. This ball can pivot freely in a spherical seat 21 integral with the housing.
The rotation of the rod 20 is. controlled by a hollow lever 23 which can move- in a horizontal plane around said center of the patella 54.
The lever 23 is, on the other hand, capable of pivoting about the axis 51 integral with the ball joint 54. This arrangement allows the lever 23 < / B> to remain horizontal, whatever the orientation taken by the patella 54.
To ensure a. precise adjustment of the orientation of the rollers, the horizontal displacement of the lever 23 is obtained by the rotation of the soft knob 49 which drives a pinion 24, the axis of which turns at </ B> the inside of the lever 23. Pinion 24 meshes with a circular rack 25. A spring 26 fixed to the housing by screw 47 permanently press the 23 lever of f acon to remove the j from the ball joints of the rod 20.
The operation of the device from the point of view of the variable speed transmission is as follows: When the motor shaft is set in motion, all the other parts of the drive being stationary, the nut 6 which is solid from the motor shaft undergoes a slight angular displacement with respect to the plate 10. As a result, each ball 34 tends to come out of its cell and to climb on one of the ramps constituting this. alveolus. The ball then moves to the right of the figure, which generates friction which is transmitted successively to the plate 10, to the rollers 15, to the plate 11 , balls 35 and planetary 12.
As the nut 6 and the planetary 12 are both integral with the drive shaft, the latter is extended and it is seen that the thrust required for the friction , in the whole of the apparatus, does not concern the crankcase.
When operating, the 10 and 12 plates rotate in the same direction and. at the same speed as the motor shaft, and the 11 chainring rotates in the opposite direction with a variable speed depending on the position of the rollers 11. The algebraic difference in the speeds of the components 11 and 12 is collected on the output shaft 14 through the intermediary, 35 balls and the 13 differential cage.
The apparatus may also include various accessories such as an orifice 48 for the introduction of the oil, the upper level a plug forming an overflow, - a plug 44 for draining the oil. housing 1., a screw 30 to hold the bearing 32 in place, a plug 29 placed at the end of the output shaft 14, etc.
