Description
Method for reducing the adverse effects of combustion products. The invention relates to a method for reducing the disruptive effects of combustion products that arise during the combustion of vanadium-containing fuels in a combustion chamber by means of a phosphorus-containing additive added to the combustion gases at the latest after combustion.
It has been found that the disruptive effects of the products formed during combustion, including in particular the V205 which forms, can be significantly reduced if phosphorus or P .., 0 ;; or compounds containing these are consumed during or after the combustion. Apparently the V205 is bound so tightly by the formation of phosphorus compounds that not only does the vapor pressure decrease, but also the catalytic ability for oxidation is greatly reduced.
The amount of phosphorus-containing substances added depends on the amount of V205; a molar ratio of 3: 1 to 1: 5 is advantageous.
However, the sole addition of phosphorus or phosphorus-containing compounds results in the formation of disruptive deposits in most cases; the use of oils with ash containing phosphorus has therefore hitherto been avoided. These deposits do not occur, however, if at the same time corresponding amounts of substances, which produce finely divided refractory compounds during combustion, or of finely divided SiO2, A1203 etc., are added during or after the incineration.
These substances have the task of absorbing the molten fractions - mostly sodium sulphate plus V205 -f- P205 -, be it adsorptively or through reaction or glass formation, and thus prevent deposits. The amount of these additives is about 10 times the amount of P205. If the P205 content is too high in relation to the silica addition, undesired deposits are created.
The addition of phosphorus or phosphorus-containing compounds is best done in the form of suspensions, emulsions or solutions in fuel oil; Emulsions of phosphoric acids and suspensions of red phosphorus in fuel oil and mixtures of fuel oil with tricresyl phosphate etc. have also proven successful. The addition of complex phosphorus-polysilicic acids is sometimes advantageous.
All additives can also be added to the combustion gases as such in finely divided form during or after the combustion.
