Additional patent to main patent no. 235614. Process for the production of an aluminum-silicon alloy. In the main patent no. 235614 an Al-Si alloy with 5 to 20% silicon and, where appropriate, additions of in particular manganese, magnesium, copper, nickel, etc. are described, which have a phosphorus content below 0.00018 0.000051 / o is marked.
This alloy is characterized by a special structure and improved strength properties compared to alloys with a higher phosphorus content.
The main patent also describes a method for the production of such an Al-Si alloy, which is characterized in that the phosphorus content is reduced to below 0.00018 0.00005%. For example, an Al-Si alloy can be treated in the Sehmel river by means of phosphorus-removing agents in such quantities, at such temperatures and for so long,
that the phosphorus content falls below the specified limit. As phosphorus-removing agents, alkali fluorides or alkali fluoride-containing salt mixtures can be used, for example at 800 to. 1000 can be brought to act on the Al-Si alloys.
According to the German patent number 870186, it was then further established that the reduction in the phosphorus content can also be achieved by the alloy melt at temperatures above the liquidus point of the Al-Si alloy in alloys with 5 to 151 / o silicon preferably below 650,
for about eutectic alloys with 8 to 13% silicon, preferably at 600 and below, treated with a molten salt. For this purpose, salts and salt mixtures are suitable that are at least mostly liquid at the working temperature, do not react with the aluminum and do not add any disruptive components to the alloy, preferably those that can be easily separated from the metal due to their specific weight.
The treatment takes place, for example, with mixtures of alkali or alkaline earth chlorides, but other salts can also be used. "After the salt treatment, which can be supported by shaking, for example with sonic or ultrasound, the skin is scraped off and, if necessary, the salt treatment Treatment repeated several times with portions of around 10/0 each, based on the molten metal.
It has now been found that a reduction in phosphorus can also be brought about that a separation of phosphorus-rich fractions by treatment with a gaseous substance at the working temperature at temperatures above the liquidus point, z. B. with alloys with 5 to 15% preferably below 650, with alloys with 8 to 13 0/0.
Silicon before preferably below 600; -and is carried out by scraping off the melt. For this purpose, gases or substances which are in a gaseous state or develop gas at the temperature used can be used. This treatment is preferably carried out until the necessary reduction in the phosphorus content below the specified limit has been achieved. If a product is obtained that has an even higher phosphorus content, it can be alloyed with a purer product in order to obtain the purity required to achieve the lamellar structure.
However, it can also be cleaned with the salts mentioned in the main patent or by filtration in accordance with Swiss additional patent No. 297680.
The treatment is preferably carried out in such a way that, for example in the case of approximately eutectic Al-Si alloys, a gas is introduced into the alloy melt, which is preferably about 600 hot, at the bottom of the melting vessel, so that it bubbles through the melt, preferably finely divided. From time to time the dross that forms on the surface is removed, with careful removal being advantageous.
Suitable gases are, for example, carbon. oleic acid; Nitrogen and chlorine. A melt of an aluminum alloy with about 13% silicon and minor iron impurities, in which a phosphorus content of 0.000671 / o was found, contained only 0.000181 after a treatment time of 30 minutes with chlorine / o phosphorus,
after one hour of treatment only 0.00007% phosphorus. The alloy of this melt showed a lamellar structure.
Treatment with nitrogen resulted in a similar alloy, in which the phosphorus content was 0.00068% before the treatment, after 30 minutes to a phosphorus content of 0.000281 / o, after one hour of treatment to a phosphorus content of 0 ,
0001.0% and after 11/2 hours of treatment to a phosphorus content of 0.00007%. The cast alloy showed a lamellar structure.
The strength properties were also improved by the gas treatment. The values for yield strength, tensile strength and elongation for the starting material and the treated material can be seen from Table I below, which were obtained at KokillengLissstük- ken, cast at 1000

2% The time required to reduce the phosphorus content below the specified limit can be shortened by increasing the degree of distribution of the gas in the melt. The effect of the gas can also be supported by shaking the melt. All known means can be used for this purpose, for example sound and ultrasound.
A particularly fine distribution of a gas to be brought into action can be brought about, for example in the case of hydrogen, by saturating the melt with hydrogen at a higher temperature and then the gas escaping into the temperature range when the temperature is reduced. takes place in a particularly fine distribution above the liquidp point.
It can be advantageous here to lower the tempera ture briefly below the Liquiduspankt or even below the solidus point, since this results in a particularly strong gas leak, and then melt it again in order to completely eliminate the gas. The gas treatment can be achieved by purging the gas, if necessary with another gas, or by repeating the gas uptake and degassing, if the phosphorus content is not reduced by a one-time hydrogen treatment of this type.
The gas treatment can also be carried out in such a way that one. introduces a substance which is gaseous only at the treatment temperature into the melt. So you can introduce a solid or liquid substance into the melt and ensure that the evaporating substance preferably passes through the melt from the bottom. Known devices, for example immersion sieves, can ensure suitable introduction and distribution of the substance.
When. Such a substance is particularly suitable for aluminum chloride, in which, for example, after adding a total of about 5% salt, based on the amount of metal, the phosphorus content of an aluminum alloy with 13% silicon of 0,
00054% has been decreased to below 0.00005%. The strength values obtained by this treatment are shown in Table II.

It is possible to combine the treatment according to the invention with gases or substances that develop gases with the treatment with alkali fluorides described in the main patent or that in the additional patent INTr. 297680 described filtration. Simultaneous treatment with several of these agents is also possible. The combination of the gas treatment with a salt treatment is particularly advantageous in the above-described hydrogen treatment, in which the salt treatment simultaneously achieves complete degassing. can be.
The treatment can be carried out on the finished alloy or on the Al-Si alloy before adding the other components. The addition of magnesium .wird, especially when salt is used at the same time, in addition to the gas treatment and also when aluminum chloride is used, preferably only after the phosphorus has been removed.
If further components are added later, it must of course be ensured that this can only take place without disturbing the structure if the phosphorus content does not exceed the permissible level when the further components are added.
The Al-Si alloy to which the other desired components have already been added is preferably to be subjected to the process according to the invention. Components that have undergone an undesirable change due to the gas treatment must of course only be added after the gas treatment. A possibly desired finishing treatment with sodium fluoride or the like is expediently carried out only after the treatment to remove the phosphorus.
