Device for sealing the parting line between two hollow bodies intended to receive compressed gases. The invention relates to a device for sealing the joint between two hollow bodies intended to receive compressed gases, in particular for sealing the joint between the cylinder sleeve and the cylinder head in internal combustion engines of motor vehicles or the joint in hollow bodies containing gases under high pressures and at high temperatures.
So far used for this purpose up lines, especially in machines with a common head for several cylinders, consist for example of fibrous materials with binders, in order to keep the fuel gases away from the fiber, the edges of the seal to the inside of the cylinder with sheet metal - be beaded. Due to the specific, more strongly pressed edge surfaces, the seal is made against the internal pressures, while the remaining part of the seal takes over the sealing of the passages for cooling water and oil under less pressure.
Such seals are no longer sufficient at the high working pressures and temperatures, as they occur, for example, in high-speed internal combustion engines with high performance; Above all, the metal part does not press sufficiently into the grooves and unevenness of the surfaces to be sealed that have been created by the processing and therefore requires very high pressure. The manufacturing tolerances, which, for example, amount to several hundredths of a millimeter for the cylinder liners of in-line engines with a common cylinder head,
holding tight due to the small deformation path when compressing the relatively thin seal is very difficult.
The metal rings used so far do not meet either. The requirements at high pressures and high temperatures, as they are usually not so soft that sufficient pressing into the grooves and unevenness of the surfaces to be sealed and the most even possible pressing into different sealing surfaces with different heights as a result of manufacturing tolerances is guaranteed .
One has already, in particular in the case of storage containers for very high tension gases, ring-shaped seals. Soft iron or a similar building material is used, the cutting edge of which lies against the surfaces to be sealed and plastically deforms under the pressure. Such seals, each with a sealing edge for the two surfaces to be sealed, penetrate into the unevenness of these surfaces and also bridge the differences in the manufacturing tolerances.
If the metal sealing rings come into contact with highly heated gases, however, the Aripress pressure decreases as a result of the high heating of the sealing edges, so that more or less large leaks occur. When arranging several ring-shaped blades behind one another for the purpose of a labyrinth effect, the deformation capacity of the seal is too low.
The invention is based on the use of a metallic disc-shaped up device ring, which concentric, axial sealing ribs angular, z. B. triangular or trapezoidal, cross-section, according to the invention, the disc-shaped sealing ring has a sealing rib on one side both inside and outside, and the sealing ring on the other side only has a support on the outside.
When the seal is tightened, these two ribs are loaded in the same way due to the fact that the ring only rests on the outside on its side facing away from the sealing ribs. If the seal is tightened, most of the pressure is transmitted through the outer sealing rib, while the inner dieh rib can only transmit a smaller part of the pressure, because the unsupported part of the sealing ring can yield under it. The ratio of the total sealing pressure to the two sealing ribs and the extent to which the inner part of the ring can give way when the seal is tightened depends on the thickness of the ring part between the two concentric sealing ribs.
The outer sealing rib is advantageously designed with a triangular cross-section, so that it has a circular sealing edge, where this sealing edge is possible by pressing with plastic deformation. Instead of one of the ribs, several can be arranged directly next to one another.
The inner sealing rib is advantageously formed with a trapezoidal cross-section, so that it has an annular sealing surface. As a result, it is less exposed to destruction by the combustion gases and at the same time shields the outer sealing rib well against the hot gases. The ring-shaped sealing surface of the inner rib dissipates the heat better than the sealing edge of a rib with a triangular cross-section. If the sealing ring is designed accordingly, the main part of the heat is dissipated through the support of the ring on the side facing away from the sealing ribs. This support is expediently designed as a ring-shaped surface and is dimensioned in such a way that sufficient heat transfer is ensured.
The contact surface on the ring can also be designed as a section of a conical surface with a very large point angle, so that it is slightly inclined when viewed in cross section and only rests with a circular cutting edge before the seal is tightened.
So that the ring can give sufficiently under the pressure acting on the inner sealing rib, a shoulder is advantageously provided on the side of the ring facing away from the sealing ribs or on the adjacent part to be sealed, or on both parts.
If it is about abductions between the cylinder sleeve and cylinder head of an internal combustion engine and the latter is constructed so that the cylinder sleeve rests on the crankcase with a flange located at its upper end, it is with.
Before part, the contact surface for the sealing ring on the cylinder sleeve is dimensioned so that its inner diameter is greater than or greater than the inner diameter of the contact surface between the cylinder sleeve and the crankcase, and its outer diameter is equal to or smaller than the outer diameter of the contact surface between the cylinder sleeve and the crank mehäus is.
1 to 4, the drawing shows four exemplary embodiments of the device according to the invention in a partial section, namely according to FIGS. 1 to 3 on an internal combustion engine. a cylinder, the die ring in the state before it was pressed and, according to FIG. 4, on an internal combustion engine with two cylinders lying next to one another, the two sealing rings in the pressed state.
In Fig.1 1 mean the upper end of the crankcase, 2 the cylinder sleeve, 3 the cylinder head, 4 a metallic seheiben- shaped sealing ring with the two concentric, axial sealing ribs 5 and 6 on the top. The rib 5 has a triangular cross section and the rib 6 has a trapezoidal cross section. 7 is an annular extension on the cylinder sleeve 2 for shielding the sealing ring 4, in particular the inner rib 6 provided on the ring against the direct action of the hot gases present in the combustion chamber. The web of the sealing ring 4 between the inner and outer sealing rib is denoted by 8.
With 9 the combustion chamber of the internal combustion engine is indicated, 10 is a surface on the cylinder head 3 and 11 is a surface on the cylinder liner 2. The circular sealing edge 12 of the outer rib 5 and the annular sealing surface 13 of the inner rib 6 lie against the surface 10 On the opposite side of the ring, its smooth underside 15 rests with its outer edge part 14 against said surface 11. With its surface 16, the cylinder sleeve 2 rests on the surface 17 of the crankcase 1. The cylinder sleeve 2 has an annular recess 18, in the area of which the ring 4 is not offered a support surface.
When the seal is tightened, the pressure is transferred from the crankcase 1 over the pair of surfaces 16/17, also over the pair of surfaces 11/14 on the sealing ring 4, and through the circular sealing edge 12 of the outer sealing rib 5 on the cylinder head 3. Only a small part of the pressure goes from the cylinder head 3 through the inner sealing rib 6 of the ring 4 and its web into the cylinder sleeve 2 and into the crankcase 1. Said web 8 can give way because it is above the annular recess 18 of the cylinder liner 2 is exposed. The annular support of the ring 4 is dimensioned in such a way that a sufficient heat transfer between the pair of surfaces l4 / 11 is guaranteed.
In Fig. 2, the lower bearing surface of the sealing ring 4a is formed as part of a Kegelman means with a very large tip angle. So that in a section through any point of the sealing ring 4a, the lower bearing surface 22 is slightly inclined and a surrounding support edge 21 or a circular cutting edge is formed.
On the opposite side of FIG. 4a, there are two immediately adjacent outer sealing ribs 23 and 24 which have a triangular cross section. The exemplary embodiment differs from that shown in FIG. 1 in that the lower contact side of the sealing ring 4a is offset and the opposite surface of the cylinder sleeve 2a is flat.
As a result of the sentence in the sealing ring 4a, a ringförmi ger space 25 is formed, in the area of which a deformation of the ring 4a when tightening the seal is possible. When the seal is tightened, the circular cutting edge 21 is pressed into the cylinder sleeve 2cc until the two bearing surfaces lie completely or almost completely on top of one another, which increases the seal and ensures good heat transfer.
The same effect is achieved in the execution according to FIG. It is here on the lower flat surface 27 of the sealing ring 4b, a sealing rib 29 with a triangular cross-section, which is flanked by two annular grooves 30 at its foot. These grooves and the sealing rib 29 are in cross section. dimensioned so that the sealing rib 29 can be pressed when tightening the seal up to the lower annular surface part of the ring 4b and then fills the grooves 30.
In FIG. 4, 31 and 32 denote two cylinder liners of an internal combustion engine lying next to one another, 33 and 34 denote the associated sealing rings, 35 denote the crankcase, 36 denote the cylinder head. Due to manufacturing differences, the cylinder liner 31 has a slightly higher collar than the cylinder liner 32, and the bearing surface of the cylinder liner 32 on the crankcase 35 is lower than that of the cylinder liner 31. The outer sealing rib 41 of the sealing ring 33 is therefore slightly more deformed than the one 42 of the sealing ring 34, and the foot 43 of the inner sealing rib 44 of the ring 33 is, as can be seen from the figure, by the contact pressure under correspondingly greater deflection or
Deformation of the web of this sealing ring pressed a little further down th than is the case with the corresponding parts of the sealing ring 34. As a result, the differences in height between the various collars and the bearing surfaces of the cylinder liners 31 and 32 are compensated for. The existing differences in the contact pressure of the two sealing rings 33 and 34 are relatively small.
