High-frequency heating device for welding thermoplastic materials. The present invention relates to a high frequency device for vision welding thermoplastic materials.
When welding two or more layers of dielectric, especially thin material, it has been found that the applied voltage can break through and burn it, or in some cases an electric arc can occur between the electrodes and scorch the material, reducing the quality of the same suffers. On the other hand, however, the heating of the material depends on both the applied voltage and frequency, and higher voltage as well as higher frequencies are desirable from a production standpoint because they accelerate welding.
On the basis of these facts, a high-frequency heating device has been created according to the invention, which is characterized by a variable reaction connected to the high-frequency generator, which is automatically variable in such a way that after the generator is energized, the reaction due to the load Roch frequency amplitude increases from a minimum to a maximum value within an adjustable time interval.
When electronically welding thermoplastic dielectric materials, as is normally done, the electrodes are brought into contact with a block or stack of sheets of such a material, and the entire high-frequency voltage used is suddenly applied. The load circuit is tuned so that the envelope of the HF voltage rises and falls very quickly, practically at right angles, with the risk of arcing and scorching or breaking through of the material.
However, it has been found that if, according to the invention, the electrode voltage is never increased considerably after an initial voltage has been applied, considerably higher voltages and better welding work can be achieved than in the conventional way. It appears that the material is softened to a certain extent at the low voltage and therefore the electrodes can be brought into closer contact with the material, so that the air is expelled to a greater extent from the space between the electrodes and the material when the voltage rises to the maximum value.
The circuit diagrams of two execution examples of the invention are shown in the drawing: The dielectric materials to be welded are located between the two electrodes 5 and 6 of the treatment capacitor. The electrode 6 is grounded at 8, and the high-voltage electrode 5 is connected to a high-voltage high-frequency generator 11 via a line 9 into which a variable series reactance 10 is switched. The latter has an oscillator tube 12 which is fed by a rectifier 13.
The generator works in the Colpitts circuit.
The oscillator circuit is excited by the rectifier 13 via a smoothing network 16, the low-voltage side of which is connected to the cathode and grounded. The rectifier 13 is fed from an alternating current network 18 via a control switch 19.
The grid circuit 20 of the oscillator is connected through an RF choke coil 21 to a high frequency control line 23 which is grounded by the capacitor 22 and which contains a grid resistor 24. The Lei device 23 is for direct current on the counter stand 24 with the grounded cathode a related party, namely via a switch 26 and a small DC motor 27 to which a potentiometer 28 is connected in parallel.
The motor 27 is, as shown by the dashed th lines 30 and 31, mechanically coupled to the ver changeable control member 32 of the reactance 10, which in the present case is a variable capacitor. The capacitor is normally set to minimum capacitance and is held in this position by means of a spring 33, for example. The motor tries to move the capacitor against the spring tension in the maximum capacity position.
When the switch 19 is closed, no vibrations can initially be excited in the oscillator, since a negative bias is applied to the control grid 20 of the oscillator tube 12 via the line 23 and the resistor 24. In the present case, this reverse voltage is supplied by a grid rectifier 35, which is also fed from the network 18 via the switch 19.
The negative terminal 36 of the rectifier 35 is connected to the grid resistor 24, while the positive terminal 37 is grounded.
The blocking potential applied to the control grid of the oscillator tube 12 by the grid rectifier 35 is of such a magnitude that vibrations are normally suppressed when the switch 26 is open. When the latter is closed, however, the high-ohmic resistor 39 is bridged by the relatively low impedance of the motor 27 and the parallel resistor 28 and the grid voltage is thus reduced to such an extent that oscillations can set in, with a grid current beginning to flow.
The variable reactance 10 initially has its maximum value, so that a minimum power is transferred to the load. When the switch 26 is opened, the grid voltage is immediately restored.
Simultaneously with the fanning of vibrations, the grid current flowing in the oscillator grid circle sets the motor rotating, whereby the reactance 10 is gradually reduced. This brings about a practically linear increase in the high-frequency voltage E at the capacitor 5, 6 until the reactance is reduced to a minimum and the full voltage from the generator 11 is applied to the load 7.
The speed of growth can be set so that the high frequency rises from its minimum to its maximum value in a time interval of a fraction of a second to several seconds, depending on the nature, mass and thickness of the material to be heated and the Temperature up to which it should be heated.
It has been shown that the almost linear increase in the high-frequency voltage results in a considerable improvement in the heating or welding of thermoplastic material. Another advantage of the facility results. from the fact that the reduction in impedance or reactance in the working circuit occurs at the same time as the start of the oscillations in the generator, where full use is made of the power available in the heating circuit.
The control switch 26 can be operated automatically or manually. For manual actuation, for example, a control switch or push button 42 can be provided next to the work station and connected to a relay 44 via lines 43 in order to operate the switch 26 remotely. In the present example, the switch 26 is opened by means of a tension spring 45 and held in the open position, and the relay 44 is closed by He rain. The feed lines 43 can, as shown, be connected to the feed lines 18 by the switch 19, and the control circuit is excited by the rectifiers 13 and 35 at the same time.
The sliding contact 40 on the potentiometer 28 allows setting the speed of the motor 27 Drehgeschwin and thus the speed with which the impedance 10 ge changes. If the potentiometer contact 40 is swiveled in such a way that a larger part of the resistor 28 is short-circuited, the voltage applied to the motor is reduced and its speed is thus reduced.
In the embodiment of Figure 2 is. the high frequency generator 11 with the loading load via a fixed coupling element, for example. a capacitor 47, a related party.
The Hochfrequerizgenerator is fed via the smoothing circuit 16 from the aligning device 13, which in turn is fed from the last 18 ge. A series choke 48 is connected between one of the lines 18 and the rectifier 13, on the core of which there is also a pre-diagnostic winding 49 which is connected to the output circuit of the rectifier 13 via the potentiometers 50 and 51.
The oscillator grid circle 20 contains. the series connection of a choke coil 21 and a grid resistor 24.
The control or push-button switch 42, which is a hand-operated or a motorized control element for the device, is. connected by the line 43 to the solenoid 44 which operates the switch 19, which energizes the power rectifier 13 and its feeder circuits to energize the high-frequency generator when it is desired to apply the voltage to the work material 7.
The operation of this device is as follows: The level of the voltage lying on the workpiece to be treated is regulated by means of a variable control reactance, which in the present case is a choke 48 provided with a magnetization winding 49 before. If the switch 19 is closed, a bias current is taken from the Po tentiometer 51 in the rectifier output and the bias winding 49 is supplied via the adjustable resistor 50, so that the reactance of the choke coil 48 is gradually reduced and the rectifier output voltage is increased.
The speed of this voltage rise can be regulated by setting the value of the resistor 50 and the value of the capacitor 56, and the initial current is controlled by the potentiometer 51. The combination of the time delay caused by the RC element 50, 56 and the increasing voltage at the rectifier output results in a practically linear increase in the rectifier output voltage and also a continuous increase in the high frequency amplitude at the treatment capacitor.
It has been shown that the flashover voltage when the high-frequency voltage is suddenly applied to rectangular rod electrodes at 27 MI4z on 0.25 mm cellulose acetate is 850 V, while the flashover voltage, when starting from 400 V, and the voltage every second around 400 V is increased, with the same work material and the same frequency is 1200 V. These figures demonstrate the value of using the device according to the invention.
With the devices described, a greater welding speed can therefore be achieved due to the possibility of using higher voltages and the welding of materials is made possible which cannot be welded to one another in the conventional way. The reason for this is that the material is heated before a controlled increase in the operating voltage to its maximum, which, for the reasons mentioned in the introduction, results in closer contact between the electrodes and the work material, and a higher maximum potential for welding the work material can be laid than by any other known device.
