Fig. 1 ist ein Grundriss einer Wandplatte, die einen auf einem darunterliegenden Schutz blatt angeordneten plattenförmigen Körper aufweist; Fig.2 ist ein Querschnitt längs der Linie 2-9 in Fig.1; Fig.3 ist ein Querschnitt durch eine der in Fig. ? gezeigten ähnliche Wandplatte, wobei jedoch die Ränder des Schutzblattes in umge bogener und nach oben -eriehteter Stellung gezeigt sind;
Das Schutzblatt 12 dient also zwei Zwecken.
Element for surface cladding. The present invention relates to an element for surface covering such as wall panels, decorative panels and the like.
The application of covering materials of various types, such as wall or floor panels, has been carried out so far in such a way that a large number of relatively small individual panels made of plastic material, light metal or some other suitable material are placed on the surface of the wall or floor was cemented on. A special cement or putty is usually used for this, which is supplied in separate containers and independently of the panels and is manually applied to the surface to be decorated or to the back of the individual panels, whereupon the panels are pressed into the correct position by pressing against the surface to be brought.
Such installation work is because of the need to handle such sticky materials, annoying, cumbersome and unsuitable for the amateur or homeowner not trained in this field.
The aim of the present invention is therefore that the element, for example a wall panel, can be installed by a non-specialist without special knowledge and great experience easily and with satisfactory results, without using a special cement or putty, more quickly and at lower costs than this is possible with the mentioned method of laying paving stones.
The element according to the invention for surface cladding, which has a flat body part, is characterized in that it has a flange on one side on the circumference, which protrudes from the plane of the flat body part and forms a depression that is connected to a a removable protective sheet covered adhesive layer is filled, the element being applied to a surface without using any additional material. can be done by removing the protective sheet and pressing the side of the element with the adhesive against the surface. becomes.
Embodiments of the subject matter of the invention are described in more detail below with reference to the accompanying drawings.
Fig. 1 is a plan view of a wall panel having a plate-shaped body disposed on an underlying protective sheet; Fig. 2 is a cross section taken along line 2-9 in Fig. 1; Fig.3 is a cross-section through one of the in Fig. similar wall panel shown, but the edges of the protective sheet are shown in the reverse bent and up -eries position;
Fig. 4 is a cross-section through a slightly modified embodiment in which the protective sheet is of practically the same expansion as the plate body, and Fig. 5 is a fragment of a Querschnit th through a wall on which several plates of the type described here are applied .
1, 2 and 3, a decorative or colored wall panel of the type used for bathroom and kitchen walls or similar surfaces is shown. As can be seen in Figure 2, this element has a rectangular plate body 6, which has a practically flat body part 7 and the outer edges of which are bent away from the plane of the body part 7 to form a flange, which consists of several, along the four sides of the plate arranged, un interconnected, peripheral Haltelip pen 8 is composed.
The plate body 6 can be made of a relatively light material, for example from plastic Ma material, light metal, stiff enamelled Pa pier or another material which can be deformed into relatively rigid or semi-rigid sheets tern, who the. It has been found that certain known synthetic plastic materials containing thermoplastic or thermosetting resins such as polystyrene, urea-formaldehyde, etc., are particularly suitable.
As a result of the presence of the flange 8, the plate body 6 forms a flat, tro-like shell. The body part 7 surrounded by the flange 8 is filled with a relatively thick layer 9 made of a suitable adhesive, which is ultimately intended to permanently hold the plate body 6 on a surface. This adhesive, commonly referred to as putty, should be plastic, effective when pressure is applied, normally tacky and preferably insoluble in water. The adhesive forming the layer 9 should also dry relatively slowly or harden slowly in order to maintain the properties of effectiveness when pressure is applied and the normal stickiness for a relatively long time.
In order to ensure that the adhesive dries slowly, a material is preferably used which, as one of its main components, contains a relatively slow-drying oil, for example of the fatty acid glyceride type, together with a filler. An adhesive corresponding to the above-mentioned requirements can be obtained by mixing castor oil with calcium carbonate and bleached rosin as fillers, in a ratio of 226.80 g of castor oil to 1.36 kg of calcium carbonate and 1.81 kg of rosin. The viscosity of the adhesive can be regulated by changing the amount of castor oil.
In order to achieve strong adhesion between the panel body 6 and the surface to which it is applied, the adhesive layer 9 should be relatively thick, and in most cases the space enclosed by the flange 8 will be used over the panel body in its entire depth fill up to the level of the outermost edges 11 of the flange 8, For example, a Z '# 7andplattenelernent, wel ches guaranteed satisfactory results, an adhesive layer about 0.13 mm thick and a flat central part of the plate body 6 of about 0,
13 rum thickness. The thickness of the layer 9 is important because the plate body 6, because of its semi-rigid nature, cannot be adapted to the unevenness of the yerine surface when the plate body is applied to a wall or another surface.
When using a relatively large amount of adhesive for the layer 9, the adhesive layer adapts to the surface unevenness and compensates for it, which eliminates the need to smooth out the surface and at the same time ensures a strong final adhesion that the weight of the plate body 6 in each Able to bear.
Before using the item is. the adhesive layer 9 is protected by a protective sheet, which is preferably ordered from a rectangular sheet of paper 12, which is provided on one side with a coating 13 of a water-soluble rubber or an adhesive, such as, for example, dextrin. The water-soluble coating is applied directly to the adhesive layer 9, and the sheet 12 is preferably tightly connected to the outer straight edges of the flange 8 at the periphery, where complete protection of the adhesive layer 9 is achieved.
The sheet of paper 12 provided with a covering 13 can consist of a normalized material which is known under the brand name Simplex and which is usually used as a removable backing or carrier material for release materials. The sheet 12 can be easily removed from the plate body 6 and its adhesive layer 9 by dipping the paper 12 in water or otherwise moistening it in order to soften and dissolve the water-soluble coating 13.
The protective sheet 12 thus serves two purposes. During the storage, packaging and handling of the individual plate elements, the protective sheet 12 enables the plates to be stacked without them sticking to one another, and also protects the consumer from unnecessary contact with the adhesive material. Since the cement layer 9 is protected from the action of the atmosphere, the plate element can also be stored for a relatively long time without the adhesive drying out or becoming ineffective. plan can also use other suitable sealing materials.
As can be seen from Figs. 1, 2 and 3, the protective sheet 12 preferably has a larger surface extension on the plate body 6 and thereby forms a ver elongated edge portion 14 around the plate body 6. When between the plate body 6 and the sheet 12 a displacement takes place, there is therefore no risk of the cement layer 9 being partially exposed to the air. If desired, you can fold the edge part 14 and bend around the sides of the plate body 6 upwards, as shown in Figure 3, whereby the risk of sliding of the plate body 6 on the protective sheet 12 is reduced to a minimum and an additional protection of the adhesive layer 9 comes about.
The packaging of the individual elements is also facilitated by bending the edges 14 of the protective sheet 12, so that the Plattenele elements can easily be stacked or nested in this state. The presence of the edge parts 14 also facilitates the handling of the plate element and the removal of the protective sheet before the plate element is applied to a wall surface.
The edge part 14 can protrude from the plate body 6 by any length, for example by 0.3 to 1.3 a. It has been shown that for square plate elements with a side length of about 10 an edge part of about 1, 3 a is particularly favorable. However, this edge part could also be wider or narrower.
In Fig. 4 a variant is shown in which the protective sheet 12 is of the same extent as the plate body, the edge parts 14 shown in Figures 1, 2 and 3 are missing. This variant embodiment can be preferred in certain cases. however, a relatively precise cutting and a precise adaptation of the protective sheet 12 to the plate body 6, which is not necessary if the edge parts 14 are present. In this embodiment, the edges of the sheet 12 with the edges 11 of the lip portions 8 are also preferably closely verbun the.
To apply the oberflächenverklei Denden elements, the protective sheet 12 can be removed from the plate body 6 by dipping the entire element in water for a few seconds, whereupon the paper sheet 12 can be easily peeled off or pulled away, exposing the adhesive layer 9 effective when pressure is applied . As already mentioned, the cement which forms the layer 9 should be water-insoluble so that it is not attacked when the sheet 112 is removed by moistening it. It will usually be useful to rinse the exposed adhesive layer with water in order to remove residual traces of the water-soluble rubber.
As shown in FIG. 5, the plate body can then be applied to a wall 16 at the desired location by firmly pressing the side of the plate element provided with the exposed adhesive layer against the upper wall surface. The relatively thick putty layer will easily adapt to smaller surface unevenness, such as is shown exaggeratedly enlarged at 17, for example, and will finally dry to form a strong permanent bond.
If plate elements made of plastic Ma material can be used, so you can on the zen tral body part 7 of the plate body 6 stel lenweise let a pressure act to bend it easily, whereupon a decrease in pressure between the plate body 6 and the wall 16 a vacuum-like state is created , whereby an additional bond between the plate body 6 and the wall surface comes about. As shown in FIG. 5, the individual plate bodies 6 can be brought up piece by piece in such a way that their lip parts S abut one another in order to produce a continuously flattened surface covering on the wall 16.
If individual plate bodies are placed around pipes, sinks, lines, etc. who must, the necessary fitting points can be generated with ease by cutting the plate with a saw or scissors before removing the protective sheet 12. In this way, the shaping or cutting operation is not disturbed by the adhesive layer 9. In addition, the adhesive does not smear or leak. The protective sheet 12 holds the adhesive layer 9 firmly during the cutting process, so that a cutout can be cut out cleanly.
From the foregoing it can be seen that the wall panel element described offers many advantages, particularly for the homeowner. The dirty and cumbersome operation of applying a separate adhesive mass to a wall surface from a separate container, for which special tools are required, is a thing of the past.
Using this older method, a homeowner had to work many hours to finish an entire section of the wall because the adhesive that was painted on the wall would dry and lose its workability if the panels were not applied in a relatively short time. In addition, once the container was opened and the putty was not used immediately or carefully enclosed, the putty material tended to dry. When using the elements described, a house owner can peel off all protective sheets from as many panel elements at once as he wishes to apply in one operation or as he has time available.
He does not have to finish the work in a certain time, but can do it at a leisurely pace. In addition, the panels can be applied very quickly and cleanly, as the separate application of adhesive is not necessary. You can actually build an entire bathroom or a large part of the wall in a relatively short time. dress up and score. much better results than the older methods.
Although only individual plate elements of a relatively limited size have been described, it should be noted that relatively large plate elements of this type are also possible. Plates can also be provided which are provided with markings so that they have the appearance of a block of four or more plate elements, with a single protective sheet 12 being required for the entire block.
The surface covering element. can have any desired type of decoration, such as printed patterns, pictorial representations or artistic patterns. This also applies if the plate element or the block of plate elements described in detail above.
