Method and device for operating supercharged two-stroke internal combustion engines. It has been shown that supercharged two-stroke internal combustion engines can only be operated with an exhaust gas turbocharger, without the aid of an additional scavenging fan, if the engine load is more than about 25% of the normal load. An additional fan was previously required when starting the engine and when operating with a low load.
It is known that the kinetic energy of the cylinder charge in an engine cylinder can induce suction at the end of the vent. Such a suction effect can occur even if no exhaust line is used, provided that the ratio of the (gas outlet area to the piston area) is large and the outlet element opens quickly.
It is. It is also known that the inertia effect of the exhaust gases emerging from a cylinder can be exploited significantly better with an exhaust pipe than in the cylinder alone. With a matched with respect to the flushing period exhaust line is after the outlet member z.
B. arranged a piece of pipe of constant cross section, this cross section is not significantly larger. than the outlet quality on the engine cylinder. This is Rolirstiiek.
a diffuser or a sudden expansion of the pipe cross-section is connected. The pressure at the end of the diffuser or after the sudden widening of the cross-section is only slightly higher than or equal to the atinosphere pressure. The pressure wave generated by the pre-vent occurs. a negative pressure wave traveling backwards in the diffuser or at the sudden expansion.
The length of the Rolirstüekes with constant cross-section is chosen so that the negative pressure wave arrives at the cylinder during the flushing period and ensures that it is flushed through.
Such an exhaust line, which is coordinated with respect to the flushing period, only fits for a specific speed and load range of the engine and is usually adjusted to the normal operating load and the corresponding speed. To start the engine and to operate it at low load or speed, either a mechanical blower from the engine itself or an externally driven blower is required, or crankcase flushing is used.
The kinetic energy of the outflowing cylinder charge was previously - with. and without a coordinated exhaust pipe - used on uncharged engines to improve the scavenging and mechanical efficiency of the engine (by omitting or relieving the scavenging fan driven by the engine) at operating load and operating speed. To start up one has come to terms with the need for a fan.
According to the present invention, a two-stroke internal combustion engine charged with an exhaust gas turbocharger can also be driven on and with operation. small load. an additional fan can be avoided. The inventive method for operating supercharged two-stroke internal combustion engines with flushing and charging fans driven by the exhaust gas turbine consists in that when the engine is started and when the load on the engine is low, its exhaust gases are passed through an exhaust line that is matched to the flushing period.
A device on supercharged two-stroke internal combustion engines for performing the method according to the invention is characterized by a matched exhaust line with respect to the flushing period and a switching device, by means of which the exhaust gases from the engine when starting and at low load are matched by this Exhaust pipe can be routed.
The Fig.l to 3 of the accompanying drawing voltage show schematically embodiments of the device for practicing the procedural rens according to the invention. The method according to the invention will also be explained, for example, using the figures. Corresponding parts are marked with the lead signs in all examples.
Depending on the timing of the engine and its firing order, one to four engine cylinders can be connected to a common, matched exhaust line, which is used to start up and operate the engine with a low load. Naeh Fig.1 la, 1b and 1c represent the cylinders of a three-cylinder two-stroke internal combustion engine. The purge air tank 2 is fed by a Ge blower 3, which is driven by an exhaust gas turbine 4 is. The exhaust gases from the engine cylinders are collected in a common exhaust line 5 and either fed to the exhaust gas turbine 4 from this or passed through the exhaust pipe agreed upon.
At the point where the matched exhaust pipe 6 branches off from the normal-operation intake pipe 7, a flap 8 is built in, with the aid of which the exhaust gas flow can be switched to the appropriate pipe according to the load and speed. The tuned exhaust pipe is provided with a diffuser 6a.
The pipe section with a constant cross-section and the diffuser are dimensioned in such a way that when the engine is started and when the engine is under low load, the negative pressures that migrate back to the engine are relieved during the flushing periods. The coordinated exhaust line is switched on when the engine is started, and it remains in operation until an engine load is reached at which the exhaust gases from the engine are sufficient to drive the fan through the exhaust turbine in such a way that there is sufficient flushing and loading lift is promoted.
Experience has shown that the exhaust gases can be switched to the operating exhaust line when they reach around 25% of the normal load.
According to Fig. 2, the switch to the exhaust line required in each case takes place. Using two flaps 9 and 9a. When the coordinated exhaust line is switched on, a small subset of the exhaust gases flows through a branch line 10 to the exhaust gas turbine in order to accelerate it to a certain speed during the start-up time, which is advantageous. is. with regard to the rapid acceptance of the load at the moment of switching over the exhaust lines.
According to FIG. 3, two flaps 11 and 11u, allow the normal operation exhaust line 7 by switching on the extension 6 to one for start-up and part load. in relation to the flushing period. With this arrangement goes. the entire amount of exhaust gas through the turbine during the start-up period. However, the amount of exhaust gas is so small that the turbine's back-up effect is not affected. noticeable disturbing, but sufficiently large to be able to accelerate the fan driven by the turbine before switching the flaps.
The coordinated exhaust line makes it possible to save an auxiliary flushing fan. This makes the system simpler, cheaper and more reliable. There. not at operating load. If an auxiliary fan has to be operated continuously, the fuel consumption of the engine is improved. It also makes it easier to start the engine.
This is done electrically or with compressed air. After the first one. Ignition, a pressure wave is created in the exhaust line during the exhaust process, so that a certain cylinder flushing is achieved from the first ignition on. Since only a small amount of fuel is injected when starting up, it is sufficient to draw in a correspondingly small amount of fresh air.
