Low-voltage electrical contact with liquid contact metal. Electrical switches, in particular electro-magnetically controlled switches, in which liquid contact metal is used, have the advantage that the mechanical or electromagnetic work required for their actuation is very small compared to their holding power and that they have a reliable, low-resistance electrical Ensure contact.
However, the known contacts of this type have the disadvantage that they can only be used in a certain position of use, since the liquid contact metal. is subject to the influence of gravity, i.e. it can flow out in the wrong position or make incorrect contact. In the electrical contact according to the invention, this disadvantage is eliminated.
The contact according to the invention can also be used with relatively low-friction bearings in which a permanent electrical contact must be established between the stationary and the rotating part.
It is made use of the capillarity of the liquids in the case of contact according to the invention. The fact that liquids do not flow out of sufficiently narrow capillaries is due to the interaction of the cohesion of the liquid, the adhesion of the liquid to the capillary and, if there is one, the external gas pressure acting on the liquid.
According to the invention, the liquid contact metal is in a housing, the cavity of which opens into an opening. The cavity and the opening are so small that the liquid contact metal adheres to the cavity thanks to the Kapillari ity, regardless of the location of the latter. However, the opening allows a mating contact to immerse into the liquid contact metal.
In the drawing Ausführungsbei are shown games of the subject invention. Fig. 1 shows a section through a contact for on-off switching, especially suitable for small relays and contact voltmeters. 2 is a schematic representation of a contact voltmeter with a moving coil system and several switching contacts.
FIG. 3 is a side view on an enlarged scale of one of the contacts of the contact voltmeter shown in FIG.
Fig. 4 shows a section through a Spit zenlager which is provided with a contact formed according to the invention.
In FIG. 1, the contact carrier 1 carries a contact housing 2 made of pure silver, in its cylindrical bore with a diameter of 0.8 mm has, there is a liquid alloy 3 of mercury and silver. The mercury has a great adhesion to the silver case, but can be prevented from attacking the silver case by alloying it with silver beforehand.
Because of the great adhesion of the Q-Lieeksilber-silver alloy to the silver housing, over time it would also cover the outer surface of the silver housing, which is prevented by the lacquer layer 4 in this exemplary embodiment. A tip 5 made of silver, which is attached to a carrier 6 , serves as counter contact.
Fig. 2 shows schematically the most essential parts of a contact voltmeter. The pointer 7 of a known design moving coil system with the moving coil 8 and the magnetic poles 9 is flattened at the end and its tip dips into the liquid Contact metal 11 (Fig. 3) which is located in the interior of a screw-slotted gap of one of the contacts 10 .
The arc-shaped, insulating contact carrier 12 (FIG. 2) carries several such contacts 1.0 with the liquid contact metal of which the pointer tip serving as a mating contact comes into contact when through the rotating coil 8 </ B > a current of corresponding strength flows.
The center bearing shown in section in Fig. 4 consists of the metallic contact housing 13 the bearing block 14 and the liquid contact metal 15, the complete prevention of evaporation and oxidation is covered by a layer of oil 16 . The liquid contact metal 15 creates a permanent electrical connection between the stationary contact housing 13 and the rotatable axis 17.
So that the outer surface of the contact housing is not covered by the liquid contact metal, it can be protected by a metal coating that is not wetted by the liquid contact metal.
The contact metal can be a viscous alangam.
