Description
Detonators for explosive charges. If the ignition of an explosive charge of any type is to be triggered electrically, a source for generating the required electrical energy is required. However, in many cases, for one reason or another, feeding the detonator from a special device generating an electrical voltage is either too cumbersome or simply impracticable.
The subject of the present invention is a detonator for explosive charges, which is marked by a piezoelectric trigger.
In its most expedient embodiment, the igniter consists of a piezoelectric element, one or more pressure bodies that act mechanically on the piezo element under the influence of a speed change communicated to them, a capacitor fed by the piezo element, tip electrodes and conductively connected to it an initial priming charge, which is arranged in such a way that the electric current flows through it via the tip electrodes when the capacitor is discharged.
This detonator has the essential advantage that, by appropriately dimensioning the path and the force required to bring about the mechanical action of the Druckkör on the piezo element, such conditions can be selected that during normal handling and transport of the detonator alone or together with the explosive charge, the critical limits for actuating the detonator are not reached. A further advantage of this handling safety is the excellent radio safety and the simple design of the detonator. It was quite surprising that a piezo element can supply sufficient energy to trigger an ignition.
The detonator with piezoelectric triggering is suitable for detonating male explosive charges made from safety explosives as well as fired or free-falling projectiles.
The piezoelectric element can be in the form of a single piezoelectric Kri stallei (Rochelle salt or the like) or a plurality of such crystals in parallel, which are assembled into a so-called crystal pack.
For ignition with piezoelectric triggering, piezoelectric elements with very good insulation are required, the example. can be made by carefully drying the individual crystals and assembling them, excluding humidity.
Serves as an initial primer for the detonator. expediently an intimate mixture of a finely powdered initial explosive and finely powdered graphite. The favorable mixing ratios of the components are set according to the type and fineness of the components.
The detonator can be designed both as a time detonator and as an impact detonator. When the projectile is fired or thrown, the mechanical action of the pressure bodies on the piezo element can be set in motion either by centrifugal forces arising during the rotation of the projectile, by the acceleration shock when firing or by the deceleration shock when it hits. will. In the case of the launch acceleration, the energy generated in the piezo element must be stored on a capacitor that is disconnected from the piezo element at the maximum acceleration.
In the case of the rotational forces, the energy remains on the piezo element, which is a capacitor, as long as the rotation lasts.
The ignition energy required for a specific ignition charge is determined by the resistance of the ignition compound between the two tip electrodes. There is. an optimal value for this; With it, ignition takes place safely, for example by discharging a capacitor of 10-8 F charged to 30 volts through the ignition mass. This corresponds to an electrical ignition energy in the order of magnitude of 10-5 watt seconds.
To produce a highly sensitive percussion detonator, which generates the electrical ignition energy before the strike and triggers a switch with a slight braking delay, a fine tip can be selected as one of the electrodes, which is placed against the primer , class see at -eringstei, delay in opening up- drilled into the initial primer and at l # ', reaching the critical resistance brings about the ignition.
